Since we were on the shoreline, hubs wanted to take me out to dinner (awwww, he's sho shweeet!). He wanted to take me to the Monkey Farm Cafe, but since we found that they only take cash (no cash on us, only credit cards), he took me to his next favorite place, Luigi's. When we arrived the parking lot was a bit crowded, but there were a few spaces still left for us to park our car. When we went in, the wait was only about five minutes; there was only one other couple ahead of us. We got a table that was big enough for the both of us and we were served water and bread promptly. Our server was very nice, she even left a pitcher of water for us at our request (we tend to drink a lot of water during dinner). I ordered the broiled sea scallops with fries, he the stuffed shells with meatballs. We received soup or salad with our dinners and ordered fried mozzarella to share. The fried mozzarella was delicious, it was baked in a casserole dish with marinara sauce. For the prices of each dinner dish I expected well-rounded, dinner portions, not lunch portions. The sea scallops were small, almost the size of bay scallops. The fries came in a small, kid sized bowl. Hubs got only one large meatball with his three stuffed shells, baked in a small casserole dish. Despite the portion sizes, the food was very good. You'll get a better bang for your buck elsewhere. The service, food and atmosphere was great, but we just wished the portions matched the price we paid for dinner. read more

Luigi's has been a mainstay for Italian food along these parts for several decades. They have quite an extensive menu: pizza, pasta, seafood, and poultry/beef. It's more of a family restaurant: not necessarily a romantic place to take a date. It gets really busy on the weekends, particularly during the summer months. We went last night without reservations in the middle of November, and although they were busy, we got seated in a few minutes. Their pizza is just "meh" so I'd recommend one of their other dishes. The food is mostly traditional southern Italian fare. Vegetarians might have a hard time picking something if they don't want pasta or pizza. PROs: Very large portions and good, warm bread to start your meal. CONs: Your meal. Way, way, WAY too much butter in everything. Garlic bread was literally dripping with it and the alfredo sauce was totally tasteless (except for the taste of butter). Calzone was both greasy and bland, and the kitchen forgot one of the fillings we ordered. Service wasn't great either: it took 15 min to get the check. To be honest this is a hard place to review. It's a small town Mom and Pop sorta place, Italian Ma and Pa that is. I came here for a birthday party for a relative because it's a local family favorite. I was annoyed that some of the things took long but this woman, who was in her 60's, was moving. More than nothing I was ticked that she had to carry huge trays of our waters, sodas, and food while one of the other younger servers could have helped a tiny bit. Anyway, overall the service was good. The food was pretty typical for an Italian place. We got a appetizer of Antipasto (9.25) and an order of Fried Calamari (8.95). Someone got a bit of plastic (maybe from the bag it was in?) when they had a piece of calamari. Our waitress rushed to get us a new order- which was piled high with rings and legs and fried perfectly. No problems with that order. I got the order of Pesto with Penne. The portion was huge- def worth the price and can be used as 2 meals. I really enjoyed the pesto but I felt it had way, way too much oil. I don't like my pasta swimming in oil. But that being said I pushed my pasta to one side to let the oil be free and happily stuffed my face with al dente pasta. I suggest this place if you are in the area and want some Italian. The portions are very large so it would be a good idea to share if you are only passing through. read more

We stopped here on our way home from the casino-I chose this place based on reviews here. It's a big place -looks like a converted house-we were early and seated right away. Our waitress, a young, pretty, curvy girl greeted us promptly and took our drink and app orders. M got fried mozz, I got fried calamari-both were generous in size. We placed our dinner orders-M got his usual veal parm, I got a pasta dish that deserved to be forgotten, so I have. Our salads arrived saturated in dressing. We paid extra for Gorgonzola on our salads-it was poor quality and very salty. Our entrees arrived and I was pleased with the taste and texture of the pasta but the sauce was terrible. It was thick, gloppy and tomato pasty but not in a good way. I ate about a quarter of my food, M ate his veal but left the pasta. This is about when our waitress disappeared. She never came to see if we were happy with our entrees or if we wanted anything else. We sat and waited and waited. Finally a man came over, asked if we were done and took our food to wrap it. Then we sat and waited again. Eventually our waitress returned with our check which she left on the table. M put cash on the little tray with the check-and we waited some more until she returned and picked it up. M told her he needed change-so we waited again until the bartender came to our table with our change. When I got home I tossed my entree-it wasn't worth reheating. I've been told this is a popular, busy restaurant well loved by the locals and summer people but I've had and made good Italian food. This isn't it. I've had good service-but not here. read more

There were 11 of us of which were 3 kids included. We were seated in the lounge and 2 other large parties were there as well. We were there to celebrate my husband's 71 st birthday. Spencer was our waitress and she was wonderful. Besides the food that is so important. Everyone there was so friendly and accommodating. We have never had such an amazing experience with a large party as this one. Spencer was polite,friendly quick,and attentive. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Never eating here again. I ordered some "fried mozzarella" and arrived at the restaurant expecting mozzarella sticks, not a giant blob of mozzarella cheese soaked in marinara! I paid for it, thinking that it might not taste as bad as it looked. I was wrong. It was it completely cold, the marinara had huge pieces of basil and had no taste at all. I may have just had a bad experience, but I'm not really jumping at the chance to eat from there again. EDIT: Upon closer inspection of their menu, I do see that it is printed quite plainly what their "fried mozzarella" consists of-regardless of how it was prepared, I still found the food to be of a poor quality. I have only seen my mother enjoy a meal at a restaurant one time in my entire life, and that was here at Luigis. Luigis atmosphere exudes warmth, fun, and everyone makes you feel like you're a local. Not in a "northern exposure" or "orange is the new black" kind of way, more like a "Cheers" kind of way. The owners are legitimately nice people who sincerely enjoy serving you delicious Italian food, where the quality never changes and the bread is always HOT. (Seriously, this bread is what caused Kirstie Alley to put the weight back on, the third time if I recall) I highly recommend giving this place a shot, whether you're looking for a casual pizza with the kids, or a nice bottle of wine and some excellently prepared Veal with your significant other. Luigi's is 2 minutes from our house - but I've only been a handful of times. The first time we went I wasn't impressed; but the other day we decided to give it another try being that it's so close to our house. This time we were pleasantly surprised. The food was much better than out first visit. The first time we went to Luigi's I had a special with clams and capers it was far too salty and the sauce was greasy. The pasta e fagioli was just ok. And Lindsey thought her dish was bland. The bread they serve and the service itself were good, however. The second time we returned we were really pleased Lindsay's pizza was very good and fresh. I got the clams marinara appetizer it was fabulous and had about 12 littlenecks in it. We tried one of the wines the waitress recommended and it was delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere is so comfortable. We will definitely be going back to Luigi's again! read more

Just returned from Father's Day dinner at Luigi's Restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. The calamari was barely cooked and rubbery, we ordered 2 portions for our large table. One dish remained uneaten it was so bad. Served with cocktail sauce instead of the usual marinara sauce. Gross. Had to ask the waitress several times if she wouldn't mind removing the empty dishes we just ate out of before she served the next course. Not a very friendly restaurant owner. We were a party of 11 and one would think that the owner would approach the table and ask how everything was, especially since we share the same last name, although not related. He didn't seem to care. Would not suggest this restaurant to those who know good Italian food. And might I add, the portions are not plentiful in association with the price. There are better choices out there. And to add, the plate of calamari which we didn't eat as an appetizer was still on the table when we left. read more

I wanted the pasta to go with the marsala, not a secondary side of pasta with red sauce! To boot, they're still doing curbside pickup so I couldn't talk to anyone or question my order. Felt obliged to tip the runner $5, because she asked if I wanted the change which would've been about $14. Scam artists. If you're considering Luigi's for takeout: DON'T. Luigi's is decent for dining in but they will swindle you by charging you for the dinner menu price even when you order for lunch. Their menu clearly states 3:30pm is when dinner prices start. My coworkers and I ordered lunch around 1:30pm and were strangely charged a ridiculously high amount. The hostess also did not supply us with a receipt (sneaky!). Myself or my coworkers will never be going to Luigi's again. It's a shame because takeout and online ordering is the way things are going. Anyone who appreciates good Italian food, do yourself a favor and do not eat here. My last name ends in a vowel and I come from a long line of spaghetti benders and let me tell you, I was far from impressed. Any place that serves tomato juice and calls it tomato SAUCE shouldn't be considered Italian cuisine. The waitresses were yelling at each other the entire visit disturbingly loud and the minestrone I was served came out of a can and was filled with onions and hardly any other vegetables. Yuck. My boyfriend ordered an open faced roast beef sandwich which he said was okay, but it was covered in gravy that definitely came out of a jar. The worst part though, was the smell, which apparently is a common complaint. It smelled like urine. This place needs Jesus. read more

This was a very bad experience for our family. It was a celebratory dinner for our daughter but the celebratory atmosphere soon vanished with our waitress, Carmita. She was totally disinterested in her job and her customers. She knocked a glass of water over on my daughter and left us to clean it up. She never even apologized. When she finally (a VERY LONG WAIT) delivered our dinner orders to the table, she spilled part of the pizza on my daughter (she had ordered a Hawaiian pizza for herself) - again no apology and she left us to clean it up. Carmita never asked how everything was and never came back to refill our waters. The food wasn't that great. Friday night date night has brought my boyfriend and I to Luigi's a couple of times. They have good food in a casual environment with very reasonable prices. There service is not great but in such a pleasant environment I was never angered by it. The servers are pleasant but always seem in a hurry. My boyfriend almost always gets the prime rib special and it is cooked just the way he likes it every time. That is important to me because I've had some very bad experiences with under/over cooked steaks. On more than one occasion they have run out of it by 8:00 so if you are a prime rib lover get there early. I usually prefer the pasta dishes myself and they are very well portioned. The hot bread they bring to the table is wonderful. Very soft and warm! I have yet to try their pizza but it looks delicious in passing.
