What makes this franchise better than their lobster roll competitors for me is that they cook the delicious critters beautifully. Never overcooked, always tender, and lightly dressed to allow the sweetness of the lobster to shine. Paired with a perfectly griddled butter brioche roll, and you have one of my favorite things to eat in the world. With that said, the Crab Roll is no slouch either. Mounted high on top of the same magnificent butter brioche roll, the sweet and succulent morsels of crab meat is absolutely fantastic too. I always come here for the Lobster Roll, but rarely leave without having a Crab Roll as well. Currently, they are offering a free cup of New England Clam Chowder for spending over $45. It's a decent version, though I prefer more clam flavor. With the high price point, it's not a weekly meal. Luke's Lobster is one of my regular stops when I am visiting Manhattan. A lobster roll is always on my list of foods to get when in NYC. I have been to the East side location a few blocks from the Met. This location on the West side a few block from the Natural History Museum. After a long warm day of walking around Central Park, I was ready for some fresh seafood. This Luke's Lobster is a little bit smaller than most locations, but is still a nice clean restaurants with good customer service. The decor on the walls pays homage to fisherman. You have a choice of lobster, crab and shrimp for your lobster roll and they are served Maine-style. Maine-style lobster rolls are served chilled and on a warm griddled, butter bun with a light amount of mayo, lemon butter and seasoning. I am always indecisive when I come here and ordered the Luke's Trio that includes all three choices of meat on a half roll. The seafood was delicious and fresh and the rolls were nice and moist. The bread is really what makes the difference for me. The prices are also pretty affordable compared to most places. Luke's Lobster works directly with the fishermen and eliminates the middlemen to ensure the freshest product possible. In addition to rolls, Luke's has a variety of salads, soups, bisques and chowders. Sides include slaw and their yummy Cape Cod chips. For drinks, they have as selection of Maine craft brews, sodas and wines to choice from. I was dying of thirst from being outside all day and got their homemade Blueberry Lemonade. I know this sounds blasphemous but I'm not the biggest fan of lobster... ...so when I saw that Luke's Lobster had non-lobster options, I was thrilled. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon with my mother and sister- Mama wanted a lobster roll, and what Mama wants, she gets. I wasn't sure what to do but I saw shrimp rolls and dungeness crab rolls on the menu too- nice! We got one 4oz option of each- lobster for mama, shrimp for my sister and crab for me! They also came with a bag of Cape Cod chips (sea salt or sea salt/vinegar). Each roll was overflowing with fresh seafood goodness- the roll (which is buttery and toasty and delightful) is a perfect vehicle. It is definitely for a special occasion (it is pricey for the size but well worth it for the quality and taste). Service is fast and efficient and friendly. I always love ordering from Luke's Lobster on the Upper West side, and I could honestly never get enough lobster in general. We wanted a quick, small snack before heading to dinner. My friend and I ordered and shared a clam chowder and a crab sandwich. The clam chowder was pretty watery and not very flavorful. There was definitely an uneven ratio from potatoes and clams too - with a huge amount of potatoes! The crab sandwich was just okay. It was good, but pretty simple. We were a little curious about the lobster sandwiches - we just didn't want anything too heavy because we were getting dinner a few hours later. Luke's has always been a place I visit when I want a quick lobster roll in the area. I love their crab roll. Recently I tried the lobster trio. My favorite was the truffle butter roll. The lobster meat is tender and if you had fresh lobster you know this is fresh. Also I follow a Maine lobster fisherman and he mentioned his daily catch is headed to Luke's lobster which is why I stopped by. The lobster bisque had chunks of lobster meat and was delicious. the large bowl was worth the extra few bucks. The guy behind the register had a great attitude, served my food and a few minutes later he asked how it tasted. Sir it was delicious! OMG. Went here to pick up lobster rolls for my mother and myself. They have nut-free pesto and TRUFFLE lobster rolls as summer specials! So naturally, I had the 6 oz truffle roll. My mother hates truffles, so I got her the "regular" 6 oz roll. The lobster was incredibly fresh and utterly delicious. I didn't eat the roll, but I'm sure it was edible at the very least. (I try to avoid wheat because of a wheat allergy. Pizza is worth puffy allergy face. Roll, not worthy.) The service was cheerful and quick. As with anywhere, lobster is very expensive. The rolls in the picture are about the size of a fist each and the trio cost over $30. Not the fault of the restaurant necessarily, good lobster is costly. However, while the ingredients were good and the textures were nice, the difference between the three flavors was hard to distinguish. On one hand, this preserves the taste of that lobster, but also it might be better to get one large roll instead of these smaller bites. The lobster itself tasted amazing and then the roll brought it to an unspeakable heavenly level. I tried savoring it as much as I humanly could. I've been to Luke's Lobster before and after a long travel day and a late flight in, we ventured to Luke's a block from our hotel for a quick light dinner just before they closed. I had tried the obligatory lobster roll before so on this visit I ordered Luke's trio ($19.50), which came with a half shrimp roll, a half crab roll, and a half lobster roll. The lobster was generous and meaty and the crab had a nice little sweetness to it. The roll that was somewhat disappointing was the shrimp. It had no flavor. My dining partner ordered a lobster roll ($17) and the lobster corn chowder. Luke's was empty on the snowy night that we visited and the employees were preparing to close. Yet, they provided good customer service and we had an enjoyable fast bite. Next time, I'll stick with the lobster as that is what they do best. read more

I got the Luke's Trio here because I wanted to try all of the rolls without paying a ton, but it might have been better to order one of each as I was still hungry after eating this. This costed a little more than 20$ where you get half of a shrimp roll, crab roll, and lobster roll. They were indeed tiny, about the size of a slider. Although they were very tasty, I finished each one in a bite. I understand that they pride themselves on fresh seafood so you're paying for quality of the seafood, but for the price that they're asking for is too steep for the quantity they put into each roll. read more

So my first review of this place was not a complaint of their food (because it's always been delicious), but a complaint of the prices. I used to only get lobster rolls from this place but a couple months back, I went to a yelp elite event for Luke's lobster in the upper Eastside. There, I got to try the shrimp lobster roll for the first time. The only reason I have never bought any of the other rolls was because I didn't want to spend money and then be disappointed. This opportunity to try their shrimp roll for free was a game changer. It is now my favorite role which makes me so happy because it's also the cheapest roll and so much more reasonably prices. The roll is made the same with whatever meat you get - toasted with butter and mayo. The shrimp is seasoned very well and is put into the roll cold. This combination of hot toasted roll and cold shrimp is so magnificent. I hope this location decides to host a Yelp Elite event so others can be transformed like me! read more

Luke's Lobster certainly satisfied my craving for lobster and then some. When it comes to the establishment, it looks like a gift shop you'd mind in the museum down the road. There's so much attention to detail: the wood finishes, the lobster related decorations and photos, the color scheme of the chalk on the chalkboard, and so much more. It was beautiful to look at and there was a good amount of seating for the small space that's available (although I wouldn't recommend bringing HUGE groups). The workers opened the door for me upon arriving and I was served with delightful tones and large smiles visible behind masks, which made me feel at home in seconds. I ordered the Luke's Trio (which came with a small crab roll, a small shrimp roll, and a small lobster roll with a side of sea salt chips) and a Luke's blueberry lemonade which came up to around $30. For the prices, I was expecting larger portions but the total amount of food was satisfying nonetheless. The crab roll (like the other two rolls) had very chilled meat in it, which caught me off guard at first but it went really nicely with the mayo that was in each roll. Each roll was visibly seasoned, which led me to believe that they would be explosive with flavor and indeed they were. The crab itself had a very soft texture and it seemed to blend very closely with the mayo. The soft texture also brought a lot of attention to the bun, which was some of the fluffiest bread I've eaten. The shrimp roll had a stronger texture to it: the bites of shrimp were very tender and I noticed more of a buttery taste to it. I'm not sure if I would have preferred chilled shrimp, but I certainly can't knock it: there's a first time for everything and I would definitely eat it again. The lobster roll was the highlight of the meal (which is why I saved it for last) because of how plentiful the lobster serving was as well as the textures and seasonings that the lobster roll consisted of. The way that the lobster was cooked gave it a lot of color and, again, the buttery taste was very noticeable here. The chew of the lobster had a bit of resistance, which gave it a nice contrast against the bun but it also went nicely with the crunch of the pickle on the side. The pickle, with its strong texture and juices were absolutely essential for these rolls. The rolls themselves were seasoned and sat on top of mayo, but the chill of the various fillings gave it a very particular flavor. If you really want to switch things up, the saltiness of the pickle (as well as the chips on the side, which are great just as a snack in general) puts a great spin on the entire meal. The blueberry lemonade tasted fresh and it had some unique properties to it. It tasted more like blueberry than lemonade, which I really appreciated. I didn't want to drink the average lemonade and this was certainly more than that. It was sweet, but not so sweet that I had to drink it in a reserved way. It was more of a subtle fruitiness that washed the meal down very nicely. Overall, this place seems to be very unique when it comes to seafood, recipe ingenuity, and customer service. Never had a bad lobster roll here. They don't mess around too much with their rolls. No fufu, no extra spicy aioli crap. It's just straight-up lobster with some light mayo and seasoning. You can really screw up a lobster roll if you add the wrong ingredients. Let the damn lobster speak for itself. Don't add and/or complicate things.
