    Pasta 'Yiayia'
    Brennan S.

Lula Cafe delivered on unique flavor, great service and a casual, yet upscale vibe. To start I got the onion focaccia bread. It was warm, salty, buttery and the onions were fantastic. The caramelization of the onions was tangy, sweet and savory. I got the famous pasta yiayia for my main dish and wow!!!! The bucatini noodles held the dynamics of the dish together so well. The feta cheese was creamy and had notes of sweetness and savoriness. The garlic cloves added good texture and earthiness. The brown butter and feta complimented one another so well, the cinnamon was a surprisingly pleasant addition, too. The dish was perfect.

To be around for nearly 30 years and still have this much hype is saying something. I stayed in an Airbnb a few blocks away from Lula for like a month last year, and every time I wandered by, there was a wait. Fast forward to last week, and I finally made it in. Cheers for me, guys. And now that I've been, I just want to come back. That food is good. So, so very good.... Vegan options galore, and not just some bullshit afterthoughts. The sweet potato soup with garlic was a great starter, especially with that perfectly thick bread. The "Tineka," a spicy peanut butter sandwich with all kinds of fresh veg, was another hit. Fresh, salty, beautifully toasted. Even the side of slaw was elevated beyond the norm. But the one I'll be dreaming of is the Chickpea & Fennel Tagine. Green harissa, golden raisins, preserved lemon, arugula, and more of that amazing grilled bread. My god. Tagine is a slow-cooked African dish that jams pounds of flavor into each bite, and this bowl was through the roof. The apertif menu? Bonus points for that one. It's cute, it's trendy, the staff knows their menu inside and out, and they have been bringing the culinary heat for nearly three decades. Keep doing your thing, Lula.

the breakfast burrito is a must - this truly may be one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had in my life. The scrambled eggs were soft fluffy and sweet, the avacado was perfectly ripe, potatos were seasoned so well - and despite having no meat it was very filling. I also loved that the hot sauce had a sweet tang to it, and the green sauce was a classic. This is a very popular spot so be prepared to wait (we waited about 1.5 hours on early saturday morning). Ambiance is vibrant, staff is nice but certainly busy!!

We had a reservation on a Saturday night, and it was my first time at Lula Cafe! I absolutely loved the casual and beautiful space as well as the lovely outdoor patio. The ambiance was perfect with background salsa and cha cha playing for a perfect upbeat mood. We ordered some focaccia, clams, and the Vichyssoise for smaller items and had the pasta yia yia, ramps & wild rice, and the chickpea and fennel tagine. Everything was spectacular, and the favorite dishes of the group were the clams, the super unique pasta yia yia, and ramps & wild rice. Each dish had such unique flavors and complemented each other very well. For dessert, we all got a scoop of the London fog straciatella, which may now be my favorite ice cream flavor of all time. The service was on point as well and very attentive! Definitely make Lula Cafe a destination when in the area.

We've talked about going here for the longest time and finally a couple of weeks ago we stood in that long line that forms before every Sunday opening. Once the doors opened the line moved swiftly as parties were greeted and seated by an equally long line of servers. On a nice day, the patio fills up quickly but there are quite a few tables. The inside is actually much more spacious than I expected. We ended up on the patio as the weather was splendid. It was great for people watching all of the farmers market patrons. We started with their baked feta. A truly magical dish with delicious sourdough that acts as the perfect vessel to sop up the oils that coat the pan. We each ordered the pancakes and a side of sausage. We could have easily shared an order as they were super filling. I'm glad we finally made it here. Also their Hugo Spritz were so refreshing.

    The royale breakfast sandwich

The service was great, and the food was so good. I got the royale breakfast sandwich which was delicious but doesn't compare to the hot spot breakfast sandwiches in the city. The addition of a caper type sauce, lettuce, and tomato on the bun feels more like a burger than an egg based sandwich, but still great nonetheless. I can imagine that they have a great dinner menu as well. Would love to come back and try.

Returned for a second visit and was in line before opening. Secured one of the last available tables after they opened their doors. The food is decent here, but I wouldn't say anything blew me away. My coffee order got delayed, and even though it was one of the first things we requested, my drink didn't come out till we were halfway through our entrees.

Food is always great here, they don't do reservations so get there at least 30 minutes early to get on the waitlist. If you're going there on Sundays, you can always go to the farmers market before if they're open before! The only negative thing is not all of the waiters are very helpful. There was one waiter that I asked for hot sauce and it took so long that we ended up getting the check right after she brought the sauce.

Most of our meals were of the run-and-gun type, so we figured we should make time for at least one classic brunch. We'd heard good things about Lula Cafe, so we decided to pop over on a Saturday morning. It was just after 9:00 but the place was already hopping. After a short wait, we were shown to bar-type seating near the back of the restaurant. It was perfect. I can never say no to a breakfast burrito, so we decided to share their Classic Lula Breakfast Burrito ("avocado, tomato, potato, cheddar, green chile soffritto, and soft scrambled eggs") and holy moly was it ever good. Every ingredient was above average and placed with care, and I was impressed by the perfectly-cooked eggs. (There was nothing bouncy about these eggs, that's for sure.) Because we're pigs, we decided to also share the Lox Toast ("house cured organic salmon, gribiche, lula seeded rye") and it too was very, very good. Finally, we each got the Fruit Cup and somehow it was also amazing. The fruits were cut really well and there wasn't a bad bite to be had. Yeah, I can see why Lula Cafe is doing so well. It's a really cool place.

    Chilled Spicy Peanut Noodles

Surprised it took me so long to try this place. Maybe it was too hyped up in my head but it was just ok. Vibe is cool and good people watching at the bar with the giant mirror. Went with the chilled spicy sesame noodle and wish it came with chopsticks instead of a fork. Really good flavors but was a little on the salty side. Bar service was fine and quicker than the 30 mins wait for a table during the weekday after lunch rush.

We went to Lula Cafe for brunch at the recommendation of a local friend. We arrived at around 11 on a rainy Saturday and the wait was estimated at an hour but was actually like 45 minutes. You can make reservations if you plan ahead. While we were waiting, we had seen the breakfast burritos come out, so I had to try them. They were a little egg heavy but still good. They're served with two salsas and sour cream and are probably the biggest portion there. Hubby got the Royale breakfast sandwich. He said it was exactly what it said but underwhelming. I had one bite and thought the bread was a little dry. That's all I remember about it. Daughter got the spring crepe, and it was the highlight of the meal. It's a yellow cornmeal crepe with lavender whipped ricotta, green strawberries, rhubarb and candied almonds. It was so good. Only wish there was more. There's an art installation on the walls featuring punny ball caps. Staff is really friendly.

What an amazing meal. The flavor combinations were so unique they made me think, "Why didn't I think of that?" We walked in without a reservation and grabbed seats at the bar. The snap peas, garbanzo beans, and Pasta Yaya were all incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The atmosphere was simple, tasteful, and welcoming, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout. Just an all-around great dining experience. I'll definitely be back.

I went during restaurant week and was soooo sad to find out they weren't offering their full menu. We were able to move to bar seating for a few more options, but overall most things I wanted to try I wasn't able to get. Everything we got ended up being good, but I was expecting to be more blown away after how hard it was to get a reservation. My favorite was the pasta yaya - definitely order this when you go!!! Our service was good too & the drinks were petty affordable! I can't wait to go back to try more things once I can order off their regular menu

Yes, they are open now! I went in the other day for breakfast.

    Are dogs allowed?

They are allowed outside but I'm not sure about inside

Is this place lively or cozy? How is the lightning inside and noise levels here?

This place has been pretty lively the two times I was in there and it drove the noise level up a bit. The food is good and so is the service.

I'll be arriving here between 2-3 pm which menus will I get, I'd like to order both breakfast and from their cafe menu ? It's a bit confusing

I think you'll be ok. They serve breakfast until 230 pm get the potato pancake thing. #thehaveners

The Doctor got the Chilaquiles (El Milagro Tortillas, Serrano Tomatillo Salsa, Pickled Red Onion, Sour Cream, Queso Fresco, Cilantro and two scrambled Farm Eggs), which he loved. The Queen and I enjoyed the Dippy Dog Bites (sausage, battered and deep fried- served with maple syrup for dipping), those were quite tasty, sort of reminded me of a mini McGriddle. The BFF got the Wisconsin Pimento Sandwich (breakfast sausage layered with creamy house-made pimento cheese, egg, salad and roasted potatoes) and he cleaned his plate. The Queen got the Steak & Eggs, no photo but she also cleaned her plate (10 oz of coffee-chili rubbed beef tenderloin tips, two eggs cooked the way you like, refried beans, pickled red onion, avocado, cotija and cilantro). But you may be asking, why am I only giving 3 stars for my review? Well because Yelp has not moved to a half star rating. The food at Farm Bar was wonderful and I would love to come back and try the burger and that Brandied Cherry Sundae. The service is what took it down to a 3 star rating. Me, The Doctor, The Queen and my BFF #1 decided to come here for brunch. We were seated at a great table, which for me was the best on in the house as we were not crowded around other tables. There was a table near the windows but there was water dripping from the overhead air conditioning pipes overhead and they ended up moving. Our server was nice, pleasant enough, but just not as attentive as we would have liked. More than once we had to get his attention for additional drinks, although the busser was great at clearly our table. We had another person call him over so The Queen could give him a $20 tip. ai ordered extra eggs with my dish that did not come out, so the server had to go back and get them for that lovely dish. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we all agreed that we could come back here for a meal. And I would definitely revisit this review, but for now, it will stand at 3 stars.

Our main hobby is dining out. We've been to every Michelin-starred restaurant in Chicago, many of…read morethem multiple times, and we regularly travel specifically to eat at great restaurants around the world. We're not casual diners, and we understand that even excellent restaurants can have an off night. Unfortunately, Atelier was a major miss for us. For more context, we dined at the original Atelier in March 2024 and absolutely loved it, so we came in genuinely excited. First, the positives. The service team was wonderful. Truly lovely people. Delightful, attentive, cheerful, professional, and clearly trying very hard to deliver a great experience. No complaints whatsoever there. The reserve wine pairing was also excellent. Some genuinely unique finds. One rosé in particular made us skeptical when first presented, but it ended up being fascinating and paired beautifully with the dish. In fact, each wine pairing was thoughtfully selected and worked extremely well. Now, the food... and unfortunately, this is where the experience fell apart. The opening four amuse-bouches were flat, boring, and uninspired. The oyster was completely overpowered by fried onion. The "jambalaya" was essentially a bowl of mildly spiced rice. Then a salty muffaletta bite and some pickled vegetables. None of these felt Michelin-worthy, nor did they generate any excitement. The next course, beets, was another miss. They were oddly hard, and again, there was nothing particularly special or memorable about the dish. The kanpachi was very good. But let's be honest, raw fish is hard to screw up. The sauce was nicely done and elevated the dish, but it still didn't feel like a standout moment. The tortellini was fine. Perfectly competent. A salty broth, decent execution... but again, no wow factor. Nothing that made you pause. The walleye itself was excellent. Beautifully cooked. But everything accompanying it felt like it was actively sabotaging the fish. The beans were bizarre. . . some soft, some hard, some crunchy, but none particularly enjoyable. We were told there was cornbread and fermented elements in the dish, but those flavors were completely lost. The smoked duck was very good. No notes. Then came a duck wonton-style preparation, which was also tasty, but structurally this made no sense in the progression of the meal. That should be an appetizer or an earlier supporting course, not the crescendo of the protein sequence. In this style of tasting menu, you expect the protein finale to be something bold and memorable. . . A5 wagyu, quail, lamb, something deeply savory that leaves an impression. Ending that arc with what amounts to a fried wonton felt like going out with a whimper instead of a roar. Desserts didn't recover things. The first was a dry cake. The second, a version of king cake, was slightly better but still entirely forgettable. Then the ambiance. We tend to gravitate toward food-first restaurants with real energy... places like EL Ideas, Schwa, and even the original Atelier. Open kitchens, a sense of movement, a little grit, authenticity, personality. Places where you feel like you're somewhere interesting. This space just felt . . .blah. Wood paneling that gave off a tired 1970s feel, overly understated to the point of feeling generic. Now, sometimes that works if the food absolutely delivers and becomes the focal point. But when the food is average, the room starts feeling average too, and the whole experience just falls flatter. The theme of this menu was: The Crescent City/New Orleans. Maybe other menus here are significantly stronger, and maybe we simply came at the wrong time during an off concept. But based on this experience, this was a big disappointment for us, especially given how much we loved the original Atelier.

I finally was seated, and I ordered a Diet Coke which came promptly, then waited at least 15-20 minutes for someone to take my order. My waitress (short, dark hair in a bun) just stood around chatting with other employees, wandering around, etc. I think I was the only customer in the dining room, but they just completely ignored me. I finally walked up to the bar and asked to pay for my diet Coke, as I had no intention of waiting around forever to order food. I probably could have just walked out without paying without them even noticing, given how inattentive the employees were, but I'm too honest to do that. I really hope this was just a one-off and that the service overall hasn't gone downhill consistently over the last 6 months or so. A triple stack of patties, topped with cheese, bacon, a fried egg, crispy onions, and housemade pickles?! That's a recipe for delicious success right there! The Wolf Burger was indeed SCRUMPTIOUS! My goodness, I am still thinking about it two whole days later and how I can't wait to revisit this restaurant and try some more of their menu items. An honorable mention goes out to the delicious fries on the side!! They were the perfect cut, well-seasoned, and out-of-this-world. I HIGHLY recommend Little Bad Wolf to all folks looking for a delicious experience! The burger is sensational, the environment is impeccable, and this is a great spot if you're going on a date or out with friends.

So when I needed someplace fabulous to celebrate my daughter's birthday, I immediately thought of Ash. Over the years, we worked together on parties, luncheons, and fundraisers. It was such a fun time in my life, although I had some very demanding people I had to answer to! No matter what I threw his way, Ash made me look good every single time. Twenty years later, he did it again. I made sure to take pictures because hopefully I can post them! I had the Halibut Scottato, and it was outstanding. My daughter had the Aleppo Chicken. I rarely eat chicken, but hers looked so good I had to have a bite. Excellent. Then there was the focaccia bread with this special oil. Oh. My. Goodness. It was so good that my daughter was hoping her entrée would hurry up and come because she wanted that bread all to herself! She kept talking about how good it was in her Oprah voice: "I LOVE BREAD!" And we can't forget the lavender lemonade--so good! Even the cheesecake at the end of the meal was superb. The food was phenomenal, but somehow, the service was even better. One piece of advice: make reservations. It may not look crowded when you first arrive, but that changes very quickly. You can tell Tala House already has its loyal customers--and after this experience, we're adding ourselves to that list. Walk in? No. We're not doing that. When you find a place with beautiful ambiance, great décor, phenomenal food, and exceptional service, you don't just visit once. You become a regular. Thank you so much to Tala House for making my daughter's birthday so special. She loved everything about the experience, and that made this mom very happy. And Ash--20 years later, you're still making me look good.

So thankfully they were willing to do that! Servers were so friendly to us and our pupper. They even turned the patio heater on for us! This place is a must for anyone out with their dog! All the food was delicious and brought out quick. Loved the Mac and cheese squares! The drinks were well balanced and I had a delightful Bloody Mary! All the portions were generous and well worth the price. Excellent quality all around! The location is amazing in the heart of Ravenswood. It's perfect for a date, catching up with friends, or an impromptu late lunch in early spring! Can't wait for another visit after warmer weather sets in!

I realize that their staff was limited, but are they unable to figure out that they could seat the waiting people (or a stroller) at an empty table and not use another table? The veggie burger was inedible. I asked if anyone likes it, and the server said "some people do". Not a ringing endorsement! There are many other restaurants on the block. Try another place.
