Had this location bookmarked in my go list and finally got a chance to pop in. Was able to get a seat right away as it wasn't too crowded as yet. As the night went on it definitely got busy as more people were getting out of work. The location size is decent and can hold a good amount of people. There are a few 2 seaters and more 4 seaters. They are able to split the tables with a divider which I thought was interesting. There was a cute lil decor on the table that was a lamp. Upon sitting tea was served which was nice to help warm up a bit and it was very good. Japchae and the mushroom/veggie soon tofu soup was ordered. The server asked if and egg and veggie broth was okay. It nice that this was asked as some may not eat eggs. The banchan came out shortly which was kimchi, broccoli, bean sprouts, fish cake and pasta salad (?). Good amount of banchan as well. The japchae was a little different for me not sure what it was but couldn't point it out, maybe the noodles. The tofu soups broth was a little light and not that flavorful as others. This may be due to the veggie broth used. If I return would see what other broths can be used. There was a good amount of soft tofu and mushrooms in the soup so that was great. After the bill was placed on the table and mentioned there was no rush, can pay when done.
Plenty of seating for an early dinner with relatively quick service! The seafood tofu soup had a deep savory flavor but the army stew broth felt lacking. However I was pleasantly surprised that they even had single serving army stew since it normally comes in a huge portion so that was awesome. Overall a solid place!
The sam gye tang chicken ginseng soup here is the perfect thing when you're feeling under the weather, not super flavorful but very nourishing. It came with kimchi, rice, bean sprouts, macaroni, and a whole assortment of sides. The interior of the restaurant is very sweet and the food came out pretty quickly, though I'd recommend ordering ahead for takeout. I would come back for something like the wings or spicy tofu soup since those are their specialities, but I just like the vibe of this spot and appreciated the simplicity of this version of chicken soup.
One of the only Korean spots in Chinatown lol on Bowery in between grand st and Hester st. Good amount of seating and can def get crowded FAST. Came here and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated due to the crowd but it was definitely worth it. Extensive menu with the traditional Korean eats as well as side dishes. We had the army stew, kimchi pancake & eel rice bowl. Everything was great and hit all the flavor notes. Service was fast and professional. I'd def come back at an earlier time and a not-so-crowded day lol
I do not recommend this place at all. The service was disappointing, and the food was even worse. I ordered the bibimbap, and it had almost no flavor. The rice and toppings were bland, which is not how bibimbap is supposed to taste. I've had bibimbap at many other restaurants, and this was by far one of the worst. The beef was also very poor quality. They only gave about three small pieces of beef, and even the beef itself had almost no flavor. The portion was extremely small and definitely not worth the price. The worst part was the service. From the time we ordered our food, ate, and started packing up, we had been there for less than 30 minutes. We hadn't even finished our meal, and my food was still steaming hot when the staff brought us the check and takeout boxes and started trying to rush us out. We were still eating and packing our food, but they made us feel like they wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. Overall, the food was bland, the beef quality was poor, the portions were tiny, and the service made us feel completely unwelcome. I won't be coming back, and I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Came on a Thursday evening in December for dinner and waited an hour for two people. They were quite busy and looked understaffed. They started a waiting list, but we had to ask several times so they didn't forget us, and might I say they did if we didn't keep checking in. We ordered the combo special LA galbi with oyster tofu soup and stir fry pork with kimchi and seafood tofu soup. Both are of great value and portion size. I would avoid the seafood pancake as there was no taste and barely any seafood in it. It's great to see the business doing well as I remember coming in July 2023 and they were not so busy then. However, I hope they still keep up with the quality.
Th food here is amazing and so comforting! They are very generous with the many large portion of the sides and you can refill if you want. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating as they check in once in a while. I definitely recommend their mixed soon tofu, army soup and gal bi. The ox tail soup is very light, clean and lacks a bit of flavour so definitely add the salt they provide on the side to add more flavour. I would definitely come back again!
Great option for Korean food without having to trek to K-town. While the tofu soup wasn't as good as BCD Tofu House, I still very much enjoyed the broth. The fixings which included the shrimp and beef could have been better but was still very filling. Still a solid meal on a cold winter day. The banchan was just okay which helped round out the meal. Friend had the kalbi over rice and the marinated meat was incredibly flavorful. Really stole the show! Many of the other tables ordered fried chicken which I will have to go back for but overall, a good dining choice in Chinatown if you don't want Chinese food. Liked that the tables were spaced out and not crowded. Service was also prompt and friendly.
One of my favorite Korean spots in nyc. Located in Chinatown manhattan it is the perfect spot to go on a date or chill with friends. I order the tofu stew with beef and it's one of the best tofu stews I have had. Service was great and the staff were very nice. Definitely check this out as the dishes were great with the price :)

I've travelled to Korea 3 times and worked at a Korean restaurant in NYC. This was by far the worst Korean restaurant I've dined at thus far. While their sister restaurant TADA Chicken had crispy, delicious fried chicken that I would go back for, I couldn't justify coming back to Tofu Tofu. Service was fast and friendly, but the food was disappointing and overpriced. Seafood pancake- solid order for the most part, lots of seafood ingredients. Crispy exterior and soft chewy interior. Ox bone soup- not at all the rich, milky white hearty bone broth that it's known to be. It tasted like plain water. Served with lots of noodles and 3 measly small slices of beef. Yuk gae jang- pretty much salt water soup. It was red yet not spicy at all. It felt like they shredded the beef to camouflage with the mushrooms just so it seemed like there were a lot of ingredients when there really wasn't.

The space fits a good amount of people without it feeling too squished. We got a bigger table which we def needed or else the dishes wouldn't have fit. Starting off you get a steamed egg which smelled sooo yummy already stepping in and assorted banchan. Was a little disappointed in their kimchi ~ personally would've wished it was stronger. The seafood pancake was honestly the best part of the meal, good flavors and crunchy, was slightly thick. The fried mandoo was ok. We got 2 specials with galbi and spicy pork and tofu soup. Also unfortunately just okk, the rice was a lil overcooked n mushy ~ but nothing was baddd or not yummy but from previous reviews we were expecting like WOW reallyyyyy good homey food vibes and it just didn't hit.
I was so excited to try out this restaurant after seeing all the positive reviews but it ended up being such a big disappointment. Starting with the positives, the dining environment is clean and spacious and the service is very friendly and polite. Also really enjoyed their selection of banchan. However, things went downhill quickly after our food arrived. Seafood scallion pancake- Texture was ok. Slightly crispy but mostly dough with microscopic pieces of seafood. Really needed to dip it in the dumpling sauce to give it some flavor Cheese kimchi pork fried rice- Possibly the worst kimchi fried rice I've ever had. There was no trace of kimchi cabbage in the rice so I had to add some in from the banchan. The pieces of pork were cut up too small so I couldn't even taste it. The "lunch" portion is very small...Would recommend paying a few dollars more to get the dinner version which (I'm assuming) is a more reasonable portion size Bulgogi bibimbap- Completely bland. And that includes the bulgogi as well...Don't know how that's even possible since I'm a terrible cook and even I know how to decently season bulgogi. Tried to add some gochujang to try to save the dish but it could not be salvaged. Prices are on the higher end for Chinatown but I didn't really care because I just wanted to leave after such a disappointing meal. Service was a bit inattentive because they only had 2 ladies handling the entire lunch crowd in addition to a ton of phone orders. Clearly they are understaffed but I really appreciate how they both still maintained a friendly and positive attitude. Sorry but I will not be returning.

The moment you sit down at Tofu Tofu, they bring you a hot cup of barley tea. It is a nice little touch that makes you feel welcome right away. If you are craving Korean food, you do not have to travel all the way to Koreatown. This restaurant is in the heart of Manhattan's Chinatown. They have all the usual Korean classics like steamed eggs, seafood pancakes, japchae, and grilled croaker. One of my favorite things about Korean restaurants is all the little side dishes of broccoli, macaroni salad, pickled cucumber, seasoned soy sauce boiled eggs and kimchi. The kimchi was my favorite because I like mine crunchy and not too sour. The seafood pancake came out crispy around the edges but soft in the middle, and you could see real pieces of shrimp and scallion in every slice. The japchae had a hint of sweetness from the bulgogi. The must get is the tofu soup, which makes sense given the name. It comes out in a hot stone pot, so do not let it get cold. You have to eat it hot. The broth was rich and a little spicy and the tofu was so soft it basically fell apart on your spoon. Another classic is their army stew. I like that they used an actual ham and not deli meat ham, its a small touch that makes this a hearty meal. Another favorite is the cheesy seafood stone pot rice. You can do the cheese pull and the bottom gets this nice crunchy crust. That crispy layer of rice at the bottom is the best part, especially when you scrape it up at the end. And they have addictive Korean fried chicken which makes sense since they're the same people from TADA fried chicken nearby. The chicken was juicy inside and a nice crunchy crust. I will definitely be coming back. read more
If you are in Chinatown and you are looking for Korean food, this is the place to go. My friends and I made a reservation since there were 7 of us,s as this place usually gets pretty crowded. But we were seated right away. Once we ordered our food, the side dishes came right after. The side dishes were good, a mix of some spicy and some non-spicy. I ordered the beef soon tofu, no spicy, it was good. For the table, we also ordered the fried chicken. It was really crispy. We did half spicy and half non-spicy. The sauce for the spicy was spot on. In the end, as we were trying to get the check, it took a while since it got pretty crowded. read more
Dang it. Lowkey mid. I was so excited to try this spot because a lot of my friends hyped it up. Unfortunately, a bit disappointed. It may have been my fault tho because I ordered a bibimbap instead of the soon tofu. The flavor was just sweeter than I anticipated. Nice homey interior. Food was ready relatively fast too. Wish I knew sooner there was a lunch special deal going on! Was seated promptly, and it started getting busy shortly after. Love the different lunch options that come with the bacchanal. The hangover ramen was filled with seafood and good one chilly day. Warm and flavorful. Definitely coming back when it gets cold to get some hot tofu! Thank you to the staff who are always incredible and so nice. read more

I love this place so much that I almost didn't post this review because I want to gate keep it. Now that it's getting colder, there's nothing I want more than some good soup and Tofu Tofu always delivers. The seafood soon tofu is super good and so is the beef soon tofu. Not to mention, your entree comes with a huge assortment of ban chan (steamed egg included for dinner) and you can get refills. I highly recommend getting the combos so you can try more things. Waitstaff here is super friendly and attentive. Plenty of tables as well so I haven't really ever had to wait. It's definitely a spot frequented by locals. read more

I hadn't seen my big bro in a few months. He got a new job recently and has been traveling in his time between, and I've been eating as many rotisserie chickens as humanely possible. Life gets busy. We decided we needed a BIG catch up meal, and opted for Tofu Tofu, a Korean restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. If you're asking "why would there be a Korean restaurant in Chinatown," I have no idea. I've had some BOMB Dominican food (El Sazón) in Chinatown as well. Make it make sense, idk. We walked past the neon sign outside, and into a packed, no frills restaurant that consisted of all Korean patrons, and us. This is how I knew we were in good hands. We sat down and started catching up, with the sound of hot stone bowls sizzling in the distance. Big Bro made me sign an NDA so I can't say too much, but a lot can change in a few months. I'll leave it at that. After some strong deliberation over the menu, we went with the following: Pork Bulgolgi, shrimp dumplings, 8 wings, Seafood & Scallion Pancake, and the Bulgogi bibimpap with extra beef. It is a little pricey ($20-$25 for a main), but the portion sizes are HUGE so I can't complain. The only thing that didn't really wow me was the shrimp dumplings, but everything else was smackin. Head and shoulders our favorite was the Pork Bulgolgi. We loved it so much that we got a 2nd order, but after waiting 15 minutes for it to come out, our food had settled and we were filled to the brim. I went to Tofu Tofu with a friend on a Saturday night after going to a rooftop. The food here was amazing. I had the marinated short bibimbap. I loved the free sides dishes appetizers they give you upon arrival. The portion size of my bibimbap was plentiful which I loved. I usually don't finish all my food but this day I was so into my food that I ate 3/4 of my bibimbap. The service was excellent and fast. The ambiance was very relaxed and family oriented. I like going to restaurants for their amazing food and not only for their decor. I would like to come back and try more of their food offerings. I would recommend this Korean restaurant. 10/10 read more

Omg!!!!!! I came here a few months ago but I'm Coming back to review it since I still think about the tofu soup. We loved it here! Service was great, and food was too!! After a torrential thunderstorm day in NYC getting drenched, we needed fuel for our trip home to Boston. Found this little gem in Chinatown! The staff here is soooooooo nice! It was a great experience. Felt like i was a guest in a friend's house! We definitely ordered more than we could eat, it is not AYCE but the portions were great. We opted to try their fried chicken, this is crispy fried chicken wings you can choose 2 flavors if you go with the 8pc. We did soy garlic and original. This wasn't your typical twice fried Korean chicken which i thought was great in itself, it was lighter, crispy and cooked well! Seasoned well but not drenched in sauce or sticky. The original was clean it was what i was looking for in the moment. Now we each got a protein + tofu soup combo (you can choose which type of soup to get from the menu) I did spicy pork bulgogi + beef tofu soup - fatty pork belly was the show of the dish, a lot of places tend to give you all veggie fluff and barely any protein, this wasn't the case here. Well marinaded pork (choose your spice level) with onions and veggies mixed in. - beef tofu soup, man so good, had a good broth base, plenty of beef and large chunks of tofu! The lady got the kalbi ribs, fresh grilled and marinaded! Nice char, tasty and not over cooked! She got the seafood soup (her go to) and it didn't disappoint, she had plenty of clams in there as well with other seafood bits chopped in. The banchan was a lot of tasty bits to add to your meal! Like i put the fish cakes in my tofu soup and ordered the beef tofu (they have fish cake tofu soup as well but our waitress was like, just add your own from banchan! Came here a few weeks ago with my cousin for a late lunch/early dinner after a spa day (self care!). We knew there was Korean restaurant in Chinatown and was excited to go check them out. This is a sister location to Tada Korean Fried Chicken & More. Lululala also have a connection to Tofu Tofu as well. It's usually hard to find Korean food outside ktown (some are scattered around Manhattan but mostly uptown) so it's nice to see itsnin chinatown. The vibe and food is exactly what you are looking for! Big, spacious restaurant with long table to fit all the banchan and your entree. There is complimentary egg souffle Gyeran jjim served before banchans arrive. Sooooo cool and amazing! Cleaned and great vibe. Everything came out hot and fresh. Flavorful and tasty. We were very impressed by both the service and quality of the food. We ordered: Tteokbokki, kimchi pancake (Kimchi Jeon), LA Kalbi combo (Kalbi with Sundubu Jjigae) and Kimchi Pork Ramyun. There was 5 banchans (total 6 when you count Gyeran jjim). I would most definitely return when I want some Korean food when in Chinatown as it's a nice break from the typical food there (chinese, Hong Kong diner, Vietnamese, Shanghai, etc). Great to have a reasonably priced sit-down Korean restaurant in CTown. This spot is perpetually crowded yet service is friendly and relaxed. 5 stars for the well-seasoned grilled galbi, 4 stars for piping hot tofu soup, and 3 stars for spicy squid combo because squid was tough although the sauce was delicious! read more
I started going to Tofu Tofu over 6 years ago and I just moved back to the city - so glad to see they are still around! They have around 10-12 tables that seat 4 each. Their food is consistently good and reasonably priced. They have great banchans which they will refill for you The service is excellent and they are so nice. I am obsessed with this place. Plenty of banchan but I did think it tasted okay. I got the fish cake soontofu. Oh my 'lanta, it was so delicious. It had a really hearty taste to it (almost like beef flavor) that I've never tasted any other Korean restaurant. Also was really nice to see this offered since I never see fish cake soontofu. My friend and I also got the bossam. It was very tasty but I wish they included lettuce/perilla/or napa with it. Come early because there is a bit of a wait and come hungry! read more

I'm mad I waited this long to try. Small spot, been open since 2018, simple and unpretentious setup. Everything was seriously so good. Only thing I wouldn't order again was the cheese dduk bokki. A bit of a unique taste compared to others I've had. Rest of the meal was spot on. Solid Korean food, fair prices, no fuss. I'll be back soon. read more

Tiny bit of a wait late on Saturday (8:30pm ish), but not too bad (~45 min). Service was great and I really appreciated the gloves for the chicken. Overall tasted ok--good for what they are but nothing too special. Cheesy pork was good but a little heavy. Soondubu were mediocre--you can get better ones in ktown. I liked the steam eggs tho! Absolutely incredible food and service. Stumbled upon this place on a rainy day. The excellent reviews are spot on. Thoroughly enjoyed the kimchi jjigae and bulgogi hot stone with all the sides. The staff was so welcoming at this Korean restaurant located in the Chinatown area of NYC. The restaurant is an airy, brick-lined space with a tin ceiling. The menu offered many choices for lunch. I had the Seafood Hot Stone Bowl Bibimbap $24.99 with five side dishes. It was plentiful and delicious especially the side dishes. I had two servings of the kimchi. Pro-tip: Side dishes are HUGE and they give free refills and it even comes with a big steamed egg for every 2-4 people. Highlights: This place is very unassuming but everything is delicious, it's a great value if you factor in the side dishes, and the service is just so nice. I've never had ginger flavored Korean fried chicken but it's tasty and the wings are huge and juicy. Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I loved how the seafood tofu soup has deshelled shrimp already so it's easy to eat and doesn't take up a ton of volume of the soup. Lowlights: I actually found the hot stone rice bowls to be too crunchy for me. We came in when there was a huge like 40+ high schoolers event so it was super loud and chaotic, but not the restaurants fault. read more
I've always walked by Tofu Tofu, but never paid too much attention to it since I'm more of a BCD fan. Came for an early lunch recently though, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the banchan and soondubu here! It's so conveniently located in Chinatown too, which makes it nice for those who don't wish to trek uptown for a piping hot bowl of stew. I ordered the mixed soondubu (spicy), and the toppings were quite plentiful. The broth itself was flavorful too, but I wouldn't say that the spiceness quite matched what I was expecting. I would say the spicy level here is almost the equivalent of medium at BCD; extra spicy would probably be best for those who enjoy the spicy level at BCD. 5 banchan dishes were provided - the kimchi and cucumber pickles were my favorite. The only other note I'd add is, I wish they provided the egg to add tableside instead of having it already added to the stew. I usually prefer a more runny yolk, whereas the egg was already pretty cooked by the time it arrived at the table. Pricing is comparable; lunch pricing is super reasonable though. Cash and card are both accepted. read more

I think you can request vegan soup base. I told them I don't eat beef and they replaced my tofu soup with veggie soup base.

They do. You'll get all your side dishes put into separate containers, though you won't get the steamed eggs to go

Are there vegetarian/vegan options? I know there are dishes that have only vegetables but I'm talking specifically about no fish/shrimp/oyster sauce in the dish.
Yes, they have some tofu pots are only contained veggies. If you are allergy to something, I'm pretty sure you can request from the kitchen.
