This place is was recommended by a lot of people off IG. Glad we were able to try! Was able to walk in to no line and find seating for 4. We also got to cool down cuz it was hot day! We ordered the roast pork, roast duck, bbq pork plates and udon noodle. Everything was delicious. The roast pork was perfectly cooked. The bbq was one of the best we've had. The duck tho, not a lot of meat but flavor was there. Udon noodles a good too. Prices were great for the amount of food given. Def give this place a try when visiting Chinatown

Cheap, quick, and good meat and rice combo restaurant. Not much more you need to be satisfied

Charsiu, roast suckling pig, soy sauce chicken, pipa duck
Belinda T.

Hay Hay is my friend's go-to Cantonese bbq spot and we were sold especially after he told us about the pipa duck and roast suckling pig. The space is pretty small and only seating available seemed like a few counter seats past the line of people waiting for their orders. It's cash only here, and prices are pretty good for the quality. I ordered 1lb charsiu, 1/2 soy sauce chicken, 1/2 pipa duck, and 1lb roast suckling pig. For the pig if you're early enough, you can choose bone in or boneless portion. The first time we got this, the charsiu was honestly kind of dry and not that great. The soy sauce chicken wasn't good at all and had a strong herbal, almost Chinese medicine taste to it. I figured I just didn't prefer it until my friend took some for his dad to try and his dad said it was off. Maybe someone went heavy handed with spices that day. Both the pig and the pipa duck were incredible, and both had crispy, delicious skin and tender meat. The pipa duck was half way to Peking, that's how crispy. Before flying home, we stopped by again for some charsiu and pig and the charsiu was much more tender and we loved it. I wouldn't call service here friendly but it's pretty good for an authentic Chinese spot lol. They're just very matter-of-fact.

There is always a long line here because they have a life size duck outside to remember the place where you could get excellent hanging roast duck and crispy skin pork you can see. They only accept cash. But their prices are great and food is quality! They also have pickled radish with pickled carrots you can buy also.

My coworker asked me if I wanted to check out a place to eat in Chinatown. She follows an instagrammer that recently did a food crawl in Chinatown. One of the places on the crawl was Hay Hay Roasted. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly employee who asked us what we wanted to order. She gave us menus and explained the combinations. We both decided to get the scallion chicken, pork and duck. For the pork, we got a mix of lean and fatty. We decided to dine in which can be tricky because it's small inside. It's a bar top and barstools setup. My favorite was the pork. I would come back. It's a cash only spot--luckily my coworker had cash on hand.

I asked for the fatty cut, but the chef gave me the lean one!

The food is five-star quality, but that doesn't mean you can disregard a customer's preferences! This isn't the first time this has happened! I asked for the fatty cut, but the chef gave me the lean one!

2 item combo, crispy pork and honey pork over rice

This Chinese deli spot was recommended by our friend, who grew up in NY Chinatown. They recommended this, or Wah Fung No 1, and we chose this one as it was opened the day we were there. It was quite fun to come here on Lunar New Year Eve, where it seemed there were more ducks and porks hanging in the back, and also there were many, many to-go orders ready to go for the new year!!! Exciting. We got the 2-item combo over rice, choosing the honey pork, crispy skin pork, and selecting the half fat, half lean option. The meat is chopped up fresh in front of you. This place is cash only. The rice comes out steaming, the crispy pork was delicious. Great meat flavor and saltiness to it. The BBQ honey pork was good too, although a little too lean for my taste. Maybe next time I'll ask for full fat. The rice plate also came with cabbage, which made me feel a little better about ordering this. Being that I live in SF, I think this Hay Hay Roasted was good, but also we can get similar restaurants in SF. I would recommend it for someone who lives in an area where you don't have access to good Chinese deli food though.

This Chinese deli/restaurant is a good spot for grab-and-go meals. While there is some bar seating in the back, it's a pretty tight squeeze and not ideal for big groups. Service is a bit slow but it's not the end of the world. I got their three meats combo with ginger scallion chicken, BBQ pork, and duck. All of the meat was so juicy and delicious. While I do think there are better spots in Chinatown, this is still pretty solid!

For $10.25, you can get a rice bowl with cabbage, and a choice of chicken or pork ribs. It comes with scallion ginger sauce and soy sauce. My favorite is the scallion and ginger sauce that goes well with chicken. I always get the rice bowl with scallion chicken and it tastes amazing! That is the R101 item on the menu. The good thing about this place is there is there is a long table in the back of the restaurant with bar stools. The bar stool has a section where you can hang your purse so that's a plus. There is a bathroom at the end of the place. Ambience is very casual. You pay and take your order to eat at the table. The whole place is very tight and long. Sometimes it can get a bit crowded because everyone is standing next to each other waiting for their orders to be ready.

Grab & go spot. Been on my radar for a while but line always long. One time, after lunch rush, i happen to see that its almost empty so i decided to give it a try! Worth the hype. All the 3 meat i ordered were tender, crispy, juicy. The nice kid on the front gave me a choice of fatty or mix. Small seating inside, good for solo diner but not for groups. Looks clean & art work is interesting diversion while waiting for my food to get ready! Will come back

I get why this is a staple if you're visiting Chinatown. Seeing the roast duck while walking down the street is...quite the sight. Like most other places in Chinatown, it's fast-paced, crowded, and a great deal for what you get. We got the char siu, scallion chicken, and roast duck, which are all winners. They're all flavorful, tasting exactly as expected, and filling. I get why people like this place so much.

Taste test of this popular Hong Kong style BBQ spot in NYC Chinatown: Hay Hay Roasted serve roasted meat rice boxes starting at $10.25 (one topping), or you can grab a whole box of char siu for just $14. What I really liked is that you can customize your meat cut -- fatty (肥), lean (瘦), or half-and-half (半肥瘦) -- depending on your preference, just like how we do it in HK. Pro tip from a HK local: ask for ginger scallion sauce (薑蓉) to go with your rice. It makes everything taste even better! *Three Selection Rice Combo 三拼飯 $12.25 SO WORTH IT. The box was fully loaded with meat that you could barely even see the rice underneath! I went with char siu, scallion chicken (蔥油雞), and roasted duck (燒鴨). The chicken and duck were a bit bony, but you can always substitute them for leg if you prefer. The sweet baby napa on the side balanced out the greasiness of the meat. *Char Siu (Honey BBQ Pork) 蜜汁叉燒 $14/lb Decent price for the quantity! The char siu was well-marinated and flavorful even without any soy sauce. The seasoning was spot-on, not too sweet or salty. I asked for half-fatty, half-lean, and it had the perfect balance of both. I took the leftovers home and made char siu fried rice and slippery egg with char siu. *Crispy Skin Roasted Pork 燒肉 $14/lb It had a nice fat-to-meat ratio and crispy golden skin. It was too salty for my taste, but my friends all loved it. So I'd definitely recommend enjoying it with rice. *HK Style Milk Tea 港式奶茶 $5.5 - surprisingly authentic. *Lemon Ribena 檸檬利賓納 $5.25 - such a nostalgic drink! I haven't had it in so many years.

I've been here twice in five years but twice a day would be better. It's a rare opportunity to try cuttlefish and the mix-and-match combos are a great idea. Tonight I also enjoyed ribs and duck. The seating area is small but I was glad to be here - much better for photos than my cloudy-day takeout in the park last time.
