Five stars for the most delicious Peking duck! Everything about their dish was flavorful and unforgettable! It's no wonder this place is highly spoken of, especially part of the Chinatown food crawl. You do not want to miss this place on your list of restaurant. The lines can be out the door they move rather quickly. Staff is incredibly friendly and this is a smaller sized restaurant with very minimal seating.

Buying some duck for lunch in Chinatown (Mott St)

The $11 Roasted Duck, White Rice and Napa Cabbage Combo is the best meal deal I have had of late in The City. The Duck was fatty--yes--but it was tasty and tender. The White Rice was mildly sweet and nutty--making it one of the most flavorful rices that I have had in years! The Napa Cabbage was good, especially when I sprinkled some Pipa Duck Sauce over it. Thanks Jenny (my server) for giving me some Pipa Duck Sauce even though it is never served with the Roasted Duck Lunch Combo. You provided excellent customer service. I hope that your manager reads my review. There was no place in the eatery to eat on 7/4/26. It was understandably crowded inside, but my order came out in a jiffy. The interior is clean. Not one piece of litter was on the floor despite the heavy foot traffic.

Decided to check out Hay Hay Roasted since I was looking for an alternative to Wah Fung and wanted to skip the ridiculous line. Just a heads up that they're cash only. I ordered the roasted pork over rice, but they told me they only had the lean cut left, which was a little disappointing. I went with it anyway. The flavor was decent, but the meat ended up being pretty dry. I wish they poured some of the juice from the meat over the rice like wah fung does, it would've helped bring everything together and helped with the dryness for sure. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, and the prices were really reasonable but I still think Wah Fung does it better. Unfortunately did not live up to the hype for me. In terms of interior and seating, seating was extremely limited and seems intended for takeout mostly. So another con to that.

Charsiu, roast suckling pig, soy sauce chicken, pipa duck

Hay Hay is my friend's go-to Cantonese bbq spot and we were sold especially after he told us about the pipa duck and roast suckling pig. The space is pretty small and only seating available seemed like a few counter seats past the line of people waiting for their orders. It's cash only here, and prices are pretty good for the quality. I ordered 1lb charsiu, 1/2 soy sauce chicken, 1/2 pipa duck, and 1lb roast suckling pig. For the pig if you're early enough, you can choose bone in or boneless portion. The first time we got this, the charsiu was honestly kind of dry and not that great. The soy sauce chicken wasn't good at all and had a strong herbal, almost Chinese medicine taste to it. I figured I just didn't prefer it until my friend took some for his dad to try and his dad said it was off. Maybe someone went heavy handed with spices that day. Both the pig and the pipa duck were incredible, and both had crispy, delicious skin and tender meat. The pipa duck was half way to Peking, that's how crispy. Before flying home, we stopped by again for some charsiu and pig and the charsiu was much more tender and we loved it. I wouldn't call service here friendly but it's pretty good for an authentic Chinese spot lol. They're just very matter-of-fact.

5/27/2026 Honestly the reviews were mixed and I really wanted some roasted duck so I stopped in. Thank god they had ac bumping, ducks hanging in the window and cool drinks in a cooler. Ordering was easy but for $19 I figured I get some rice with the meal. The duck was barely warm( also read in previous reviews) and soooo greasy, the dipping sauce really didn't do much for me but it gave a little something. The staff were friendly and fast. Bathroom rating:5/5

The wood ear mushroom and carrot radish side dishes were my favorite! They're seasoned perfectly and have a great chew to it. I like how you have the option to pick between skinny, fat, or a mix of both for meats. The skin on the duck and pork are very good. I like the ginger scallion oil it comes with, and the rice texture was also good. Everything is reasonable priced too, and just make sure to bring cash.

This place was recommended by a lot of people off IG. Glad we were able to try! Was able to walk in to no line and find seating for 4. We also got to cool down cuz it was hot day! We ordered the roast pork, roast duck, bbq pork plates and udon noodle. Everything was delicious. The roast pork was perfectly cooked. The bbq was one of the best we've had. The duck tho, not a lot of meat but flavor was there. Udon noodles a good too. Prices were great for the amount of food given. Def give this place a try when visiting Chinatown

Cheap, quick, and good meat and rice combo restaurant. Not much more you need to be satisfied

There is always a long line here because they have a life size duck outside to remember the place where you could get excellent hanging roast duck and crispy skin pork you can see. They only accept cash. But their prices are great and food is quality! They also have pickled radish with pickled carrots you can buy also.

My coworker asked me if I wanted to check out a place to eat in Chinatown. She follows an instagrammer that recently did a food crawl in Chinatown. One of the places on the crawl was Hay Hay Roasted. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly employee who asked us what we wanted to order. She gave us menus and explained the combinations. We both decided to get the scallion chicken, pork and duck. For the pork, we got a mix of lean and fatty. We decided to dine in which can be tricky because it's small inside. It's a bar top and barstools setup. My favorite was the pork. I would come back. It's a cash only spot--luckily my coworker had cash on hand.

2 item combo, crispy pork and honey pork over rice

This Chinese deli spot was recommended by our friend, who grew up in NY Chinatown. They recommended this, or Wah Fung No 1, and we chose this one as it was opened the day we were there. It was quite fun to come here on Lunar New Year Eve, where it seemed there were more ducks and porks hanging in the back, and also there were many, many to-go orders ready to go for the new year!!! Exciting. We got the 2-item combo over rice, choosing the honey pork, crispy skin pork, and selecting the half fat, half lean option. The meat is chopped up fresh in front of you. This place is cash only. The rice comes out steaming, the crispy pork was delicious. Great meat flavor and saltiness to it. The BBQ honey pork was good too, although a little too lean for my taste. Maybe next time I'll ask for full fat. The rice plate also came with cabbage, which made me feel a little better about ordering this. Being that I live in SF, I think this Hay Hay Roasted was good, but also we can get similar restaurants in SF. I would recommend it for someone who lives in an area where you don't have access to good Chinese deli food though.

This Chinese deli/restaurant is a good spot for grab-and-go meals. While there is some bar seating in the back, it's a pretty tight squeeze and not ideal for big groups. Service is a bit slow but it's not the end of the world. I got their three meats combo with ginger scallion chicken, BBQ pork, and duck. All of the meat was so juicy and delicious. While I do think there are better spots in Chinatown, this is still pretty solid!

For $10.25, you can get a rice bowl with cabbage, and a choice of chicken or pork ribs. It comes with scallion ginger sauce and soy sauce. My favorite is the scallion and ginger sauce that goes well with chicken. I always get the rice bowl with scallion chicken and it tastes amazing! That is the R101 item on the menu. The good thing about this place is there is there is a long table in the back of the restaurant with bar stools. The bar stool has a section where you can hang your purse so that's a plus. There is a bathroom at the end of the place. Ambience is very casual. You pay and take your order to eat at the table. The whole place is very tight and long. Sometimes it can get a bit crowded because everyone is standing next to each other waiting for their orders to be ready.

There was a wait list, tons of reservations, and the whole place was hustling and bustling. The food smelled amazing, and the ambiance was lively and fun overall. We were excited to eat! We were walk-ins, so I appreciated that they were able to get us in. The hostess was running a very tight ship - very "no BS"/no nonsense ... and hey, I get it, it was crazy, but at times it erred a bit unnecessarily rude? It just left me feeling a bit off, but not the end of the world. Food-wise, we tried a lot of different things. The highlight was honestly the scallion pancakes. They were DELISH! Not too doughy, not too dry, and the vinegar dipping sauce was amazing (I know it's just the standard vinegar but dang it's so good). It was a classic really well executed. The steamed pork dumplings were also quite yummy. For our mains, we got the garlic baby bok choy, beef chow fun, and kung pao chicken. The beef chow fun looked amazing and we had heard really good things about it, but unfortunately it was a little dry and lacked flavor... just sort of bland? We ended up pouring some of the vinegar sauce over it, which helped, but I was a little disappointed because it looked so good. The baby bok choy was really loaded it up with garlic chunks and was also yummy and a good portion. It was juicy and had a great texture, but my only note was that it felt like it needed just a little more seasoning or salt? Overall, though, it was good. The kung pao chicken was INTENSE. I knew it'd be spicy, but truthfully it was my first time ever trying it and it was a tad difficult to eat without rice. The chicken thighs had a texture that felt a little gummy to me? I wished the chicken had been a bit more browned too. The peanuts and veggies rocked, but the sauce and chicken were huge misses for us. I typically would never send anything back, but my friend insisted as it was tough to enjoy. They did take our dish from the table... but then a manager brought it back and was a bit condescending towards us saying they didn't do that and everyone knows it's a spicy dish... which, I'm trying to be fair about because he didn't know it was my first time, but it just again felt unnecessarily rude. I hate wasting food, so we kept it and took it home rather than let it go to waste. I just thought the whole interaction was a little strange. Truly - I wasn't really looking to get something for free. We just didn't enjoy the dish and were trying to figure out what our options were and it basically felt like he just came over to make us feel small instead of problem solving together. Weird. I'm always one for second chances so I'm hoping to try it again, but I would highly recommend making a reservation to ensure a calmer experience.
