Lumberjacks is another restaurant I have re-discovered since moving to the deep south side. I had eaten here a number of times, years ago but had not given it much thought until I recently found myself driving past regularly. I went in a few weeks ago, and had an omelette in the "Sportsman's Lounge" and found it quite good. With this in my mind, I decided to break fast on a recent Sunday, and chose the main restaurant. It was a little disconcerting to go in at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon and find the place completely empty. A server came out and reassured me the "lunch rush" had just ended, and that they were still open. I was seated, given a menu and ordered coffee. The menu is not as full as it was in my former days here, but there were a good number of breakfast options, which was why I was here. Having perused the menu, I opted for the "Southwest Breakfast Wrap," which stuck my fancy. The food took about 30 minutes to appear, which surprised me, as I was the only patron in the restaurant. There was just the one server, and her appearances were sporadic, at best. When the wrap landed it looked pretty good, but I have to say... the only way this could be described as "Southwest" was if it was prepared in the southwest corner of the kitchen. When I think "Southwest," I think of piquante dishes, with spice and Mexican flavours. This wrap was entirely devoid of seasoning, and the salsa was from a jar, with no spark what so ever. They were kind enough to provide an extra ramkin of the salsa which went untouched. The ketchup had more flavour and heat. On the plus side, the potatoes were quite tasty, and the coffee was decent. Restaurant - 3/5 Dated decor and a little creepy when dead empty. Food - 2/5 The flavour profile of a cafeteria in a senior's home. Service - 3.5/5 The server was pleasant, when I actually saw her. I am not sure when I may return, as there are so many better options. read more

This restaurant has probably been here for years and I've likely driven past it a hundred times or more without noticing. It's not because of a small sign either as the sign is quite prominent. Well now I've eaten at Lumberjack's. Upon entering Lumberjack's, at 11:30am, it was so dark that I thought they were closed. There were only two tables occupied. We were quickly seated and handed menus. They must be saving electricity on low wattage lights. I ordered the Santa Fe Breakfast Wrap and my guest ordered the Eggs Bennedict. My wrap was very hot (microwaved?) and messier than it should be. The wrap was was however tasty and filling. I appreciated the choice of fruit or hash browns. My guest liked her Eggs Bennedict. I wonder if they changed their menu not long ago because some people commented on a large choice of breakfast dishes. I thought it was average or even small. The server was a bit grumpy at first and she said that she's been up since 5:00 am. After we were finished eating a different server came and cheerfully asked us if we would like more coffee and she was nice enough to make up for the grumpy one we had started with (I assume that Ms Grumpy finished her shift and went home). Lumberjack's is huge with lots of room for big groups or single individuals. It's very quiet and seems to be popular with the local seniors. The prices are fair or even better than fair. This is a similar establishment to Saratoga on Calgary Trail but not as busy and with not as many menu items. It's a simple restaurant where you can get good value for your dollar as long as you are not looking for anything too trendy or creative. I prefer Saratoga but if I lived nearby I would probably return here. For food quality and value I would give them 4 stars but for service, decor, and menu creativity they get 2 stars so 3 overall. read more

Lumber Jacks used to be one of my go-to places years ago but I hadn't been there in years so just to change it up I thought I'd go there. The menu used to be a lot different from what it is now. Now it's basically appetizers, breakfast fare, and sandwiches/wraps and that's pretty much it. Good for a light meal if that's what you're looking for or breakfast in the evening. No entrees available anymore, they've completely changed it up. It wasn't anything that knocked my socks off but it was OK. I had a custom omelette with bacon, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese that came with pancakes. I added a glass of chocolate milk to my order as well as a fruit cup side. The omelette was edible but uninspired. I would've thought they'd put more care into it since I was the only customer in this place, but the omelette was a bit bland since they didn't put any spices in the eggs, and they put the cheese on top of the omelette instead of inside where it would've provided more flavour, which was disappointing. I've never heard of toppings on top of an omelette, in my experience everything goes inside of it, isn't that what an omelette is supposed to be? The pancakes didn't look like much so I set my expectations low, but I was pleasantly surprised as they were actually quite tasty. If only they put as much thought into the omelette as they did the pancakes, I might've given them another star at least. Also, it's nice for a change that they're not chintzy with the syrup. I had enough to finish the pancakes, which was great. They went a little nuts with the butter, but that's no big deal as you can just leave the butter you don't eat. The chocolate milk wasn't even real chocolate milk, it was obviously Hershey's syrup in regular milk. For $3.75 I was expecting better. Send the Hershey's syrup down the Hershey highway. Boo-urns. The fruit cup was pretty much as expected, lots of melon with some grape, oranges, and a little bit of a couple of other pieces of fruit. I'll probably be back eventually but it won't be a go-to for me anymore. read more

I haven't been here in many years. A group of us decided to go in after a local hike. I ordered the chicken quesadilla which were excellent! They were twice as thick as you usually get and the flavor was great. I had others at the table saying they were going to order it next time. The price was reasonable in todays economy and our server was friendly and efficient. read more

We stopped in as a family of 6. Seated in a private double booth area that was perfect for us. All the breakfasts were awesome especially the Eggs Benny & Chicken & Waffles. The staff was very friendly and the service was outstanding. Can't wait to go back again because we love going out for breakfast. read more

Very solid breakfast adventure. The dining room is large. The service was good. I never felt like I waited very long for coffee or water refills. I liked that, especially since we were there for a weekend breakfast. The menu prices are reasonable as well. The menu is large so there is a chance for anyone to find something to eat. It's all the classic breakfast items, with a home style feel. I highly recommend the potato pancakes. The portions are generous. And I'm greatly looking forward to the next visit. read more

The food looked good on the plate, but when my son tried his bacon as his side dish, he said "This is not real bacon" We live on a farm and make real bacon with our pigs. I had a clubhouse and it was gross, turkey was slimy, cheese tasted like it was expired, and it was expensive. The service was not good, waitresses and hosts standing there, not doing their jobs, standing there compulsively checking their Snapchat, instagram, and TikTok at work. The decorations were nice, but the bathrooms were not clean, men can not do their business, and the one stall is tiny. My Family and I will not be returning. read more

My family had supper Sunday July 11, 2021 and we each had different meals. I had the Fried Chicken dinner and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was moist and the coating was light and tasty. Each meal provided generous portions and the prices were very reasonable no more than $15.00 per plate. the service was great and the staff very polite. We highly recommend Lumberjacks. read more

Came across this with my sister and my desire for breakfast in the afternoon over came our previous choice of BP. Sis had potato pancakes... amazeballs!! (her word) I had the full on Lumberjack breakfast which was a lot of food for 1 person but cooked well and looked and tasted good. Nice to see real potatoes!! Lumber Jacks is like having a truck stop diner in the middle of the city. It's got decent food, friendly service, and a great atmosphere. On the walls hang trophy fish and old framed advertisements from years gone by. The homemade buns are delicious and the food is always plentiful. I definitely recommend this place for a greasy breakfast, which is sometimes exactly what you want. Although usually busy, this restaurant is rarely too packed, and you are almost always guaranteed a seat. read more

LJ's is one of my favourite places in town for a solid hearty breakfast at reasonable prices. I have been coming here for years and am never disappointed. It's clean, consistent and comfortable. I love omelettes, french toast, bacon & eggs, and most of all, their potato pancakes. They are seriously the best in town... perfectly flavourful, fluffy and crisp on the outside - served with sour cream (but I usually use maple syrup on mine) Not only do they serve hearty breakfasts, they have an excellent lunch and dinner menu as well that will cater to all tastes and ages. One of my favourite reasons for having dinner here are their homemade dinner buns - soooooo soooo yummy - fresh, fluffy, slightly sweet and preservative-free! The service is friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking out front. It can get busy on weekends during the breakfast/lunch rush but don't let that deter you as the wait usually isn't very long. read more

Too bad I can't rank it lower...went in for breakfast with my girl and I, serve us coffee and tea right away but then somehow forgot to take our order. After patiently waiting for 15 minutes we waved another waitress over and she took our order. I ordered the hamburger steak and hashbrowns and my girl went with French Toast. When my meal arrived I got potato chunks not hashbrowns and I asked my server why, She responded with "that;s what we call hashbrowns here" Anyway they were not good at all way overcooked and not even resembling hashbrowns anyway. What really made it the worst though was the hamburger steak ( and that is a very loose description) In all my years of eating this dish (I'm a senior so a long time) this is by leaps and bounds the worst I've ever had by far. it wasn't really Hamburger but more some kind of meat mixed 50/50 with breadcrumbs or some other kind of filler. It tasted gooey/mushy and nothing at all like hamburger. Just to be sure it wasn't just me my girl gave in and tried it but spit it out. Quality breakfast food for a decent price! Portions are large, the bacon crispy, sausages delicious, and it's the perfect meal to start the day. If you're stopping in to get a later meal, be sure to try the fries! They are so crispy and just the right size. This place is a staple for me and my family. We go once every month or two usually. Realistically, it's probably a 3.5 stars... but that doesn't exist. I'm comfortable giving it 4 stars though. Really... the only reason I would consider putting it at less than 4 stars is that the service is pretty shoddy. They're definitely not understaffed... there are plenty of servers and hostesses walking around, so there isn't much excuse for forgetting so many things. I usually have to ask for things twice before they get to me. But the food is usually delicious and the atmosphere is usually not too loud like it can be at some places like Denny's. read more

I've been here twice to eat now, once in the bar and once in the dining area. I came back (and will go back again) for the deep fried pickles, which I love!! There is a serious sketchiness about this place that I'm not sure can be repaired, and service was meh both times. However, both the bf and I really enjoyed our meals on both visits. I am a frequent visitor to this place - as we tend to hold a lot of work functions here. Recently I visited this joint for breakfast. It was pretty busy for a Saturday - although it looked more busy outside then it was inside. I had the simple eggs and bacon breakfast. The food came out cold, and it was nothing special for the price. The waitress was friendly but pushy, I needed more time with the menu and she kept hounding the table. We tend to visit this place for lunch a lot throughout the year as well. I have had tried several dishes and I am just not a fan of the food, its simple, very basic, somewhat pricey, and just nothing special. I feel I could make all of their dishes at home. read more

I have to say the food isn't great. The veggie burger and salmon always seems to be greasier than necessary. The spaghetti is pretty good. Next time I will order the all day breakfast - who doesn't like bacon & eggs for supper every now and then. But it's quiet (which is important for Gido) and the service is great. The waitress brought me so many extra veggies (as a substitute for the fries I didn't want) that I could barely finish them. This review is for the restaurant, not the bar next door. This a good spot for a quick hot meal. The food is very good as well as the service. The restaurant has lots of booths for private dining. The meals are prepared quickly so there isn't any waiting around when you are famished. The restaurant is in very good shape ( it's not a dive nor very fancy). Went here today with my boyfriend for dinner and it was actually a lot better than we expected! It looks like it probably had a few renos, because the food menu is definitely different than how it looks inside. It has the food is more like breakfast Denny's style. But it was actually really decent food. I had the Philly Chicken dip and it was really great. The sides we had were not that great - potato salad that was really off tasting, and some soggy poutine. The actual mains we had were really great though. We also had nachos at the appetizer and they were good and affordable. The service was fine, other than the waitress messing up our order. She brought out two dishes that were completely different than what we ordered and we were like uhhhhhh. When the actual food came though it was good. The food is not expensive the atmosphere is good. Its not perfect but it is a really good place to just go and have dinner. It's pretty quiet and draws an older crowd, but no one really knows about it so there's not too long of wait time. They are relatively fast bringing out food too! Lumber Jacke is your usual bar/pub. It looks old on the inside and out but it is good enough. The staff is super friendly and the prices are what you would expect, same as the food. I had a cheeseburger and fries (yes I was living on the edge this day) and the burger was very close to being burnt but the fries were really good! Probably some of the best fries I have had. My husband and I took a chance and stopped in to eat. Lumber jacks has similar food to Denny's but is a whole lot better and the prices are awesome. I got the mushroom Swiss burger which was more of a sirloin burger, which was delicious. My husband got the fish and chips. They were extremely tasty, not very greasy, and the batter was crispy and crunchy! I had my fries poutined. The gavy was amazing. We kept asking each other if our food was home made. the soup and rolls tasted like my grandma's! If you are wanting a nice family-stlye meal, it doesn't get any better for the price!! read more

I was there twice in the last two weeks. Once for breakfast one for lunch. My Wife had French Toast. I had the steak Sandwich. She did not enjoy the toast. I loved my sandwich. Cooked to perfection. Just the way I ordered it. Fries were good and crispy. Coffee was tasty as well. Lots of re-fills. I also had a tossed salad. Fresh and crisp with lots of dressing on the side. The second time the wife had a Lumberjack breakfast. I had a clubhouse sandwich. The club has real Turkey not that sad ol cold cut turkey some places have. Both were fantastic. Lumberjack was huge and fresh. I had a bowl of Veggie soup. Amazing and homemade. The best part is the homemade buns. Amazing. A must have. Worth going for the buns alone. Great prices. We have passed by this place so many times in the past year and a half and finally went in. Boy oh Boy am i sorry i didn't go sooner. The food is wonderful!!! Breakfasts are fantastic and we always enjoy the meal. The only thing we don't like is that they give you your food and within 5 minutes they give you the bill. So I work in the area and for the lunch I try everything. I have tried take out here but never sit in for food, drinks yes . So the takeout food was exactly what I wanted. I got a chicken burger and it was good. Sometimes after work co-workers and I will go for a quick drink. Now drinks seem kinda cheap here. We got a round for $30 with 6 people??? avergae $5 a drink, that seems cheap to me. They have a few pool tables, a punch machine, darts and vlts. The crowd dosent seem troublesome. Stopped in for a quick lunch after going to Barbecue Country for BBQ parts. Both of our meals were hit and miss. I had a grilled cheese, which was awesome, but the cactus fries that came with it were soggy and oily, not cooked all the way through in the centre of the pile. The omelet was tasty, however the potatoes that looked great were super sweet and not very good with the rest of the food. So maybe it was just potato based foods that day! The main parts of the meal were good, the service was excellent and attentive, and the place was much nicer inside than I thought it was going to be. If we're in the neighbourhood, we might go there again to try it, but we won't be going out of our way to hit it up. Service isn't very good, though everyone is kind. I've been waiting to be asked if I need anything to drink since I've been here. No water to wash down my cold breakfast. Toast was dry and bland, hash browns taste old, cold and dry. Eggs were undercooked, I asked for no runny yolk and they were very runny, making them inedible to me. Sausage and bacon cold and bland. If you're looking for a place that serves quick, diner style food then this is the place for you. I would recommend breakfast. Here, you know what you are going to get. There are no surprises, no culinary masterpieces. But you know what? Sometimes that's great. The decor is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly with the coffee always coming .
