My kiddos and I had breakfast here this morning while my hubby was at his Spartan Race. Being unfamiliar with the area I was a bit nervous to venture out on my own, especially with three kids! The Lumberjack and one other place are our go to breakfast spots. The Lumberjack has your typical American breakfast items, but what they do awesome is Mexican breakfast. My wife loves the huevos rancheros...they offer red or green sauce and both are great. The red sauce has a little more kick. They make a terrific machaca too. My go to is the Lucy Burrito (it's CA Mexican with a generous portion of avocado) and I ask for extra salsa on the side. Their salsa is phenomenal - they could jar it and make a fortune. They have very friendly service and they leave you alone...not over-serve by coming by every two minutes. So if you need something, just ask. read more

Came in for breakfast. At the beginning the service was off as we ended up seating ourselves. Then the waitress came to take our order, but we had no menus. Once we got passed this stage, everything flowed as it should. The pancakes were good size and delicious! All else was good as well. If not for the beginning I would have rated them with 4 stars. I really love it! Love their onion rings (unlike other places theirs aren't greasy) , just tasty! Same goes fir fried zucchini- yummy! Their pasta and alfredo (sauce is made right there). I always order barbecue ribs-- those are yummy. Portions are pretty big and prices are reasonable. My friend ordered New York steak (med/rare) and it was big piece and tasty, cooked exactly as ordered. Way better quality and size than stuff at Danny's (don't care for Danny's food at all). I've taken friends out to Lumber Jack and everyone's always pleased with the food. I used to live in LA for many years and like places like "Grand Lux Cafe", Cheese Cake Factory", "Dupars", "Ruth Chris in Beverly Hills", "Mandarette" , "Toi Thai Rock cafe" etc. So with the move to Big Bear it was quiteca challenge to find anything good. Fast service, and the food is pretty good. They really need to fix the front door though, it SLAMS every time someone comes in or goes out, super annoying. i called the place as I was lookin for somewhere to have breakfast an someone kindly picked up and I was happy to know they opened early as 7am! we walked in and were greeted kindly. There is a variety to choose from! Everything sounded real good but I went with the French toast combo. It came with eggs and bacon. I asked for crispy bacon and crispy bacon I got! The syrup was not overly sweetened, which was a good thing. I ordered coffee and the waitress came and refilled it for me before I could even ask. Stopped at this little place on our way out of Big Bear in search of breakfast. Despite the place being packed, we only waited maybe 10 minutes for a table for 7 of us. Service was SUPER slow, but considering it looked as if there was only two waitresses serving a packed full of hungry locals & hungover tourists spot, can't really blame them. On to the food. Mother of God, the Sourdough Pancakes. If you've thought you'd had good pancakes before, you haven't had these. Like, literally stop what you're doing, drive up the hill and order yourself some. Then proceed to drown in the huge pillows of whipped butter they top them with & warm syrup. Diabetic coma here we come. The only negatives we had were the "Complete Family Meal" which wasn't as big as you'd think it was by its description and the gravy for their biscuits & gravy has that weird off taste like premade canned. Everything else we shoved in our faces was awesome, crispy hashbrowns, perfectly fried eggs (hard to get a properly cooked egg that isn't scrambled) and non soggy chicken fried steak. Hell, even their iced tea is brewed to the right strength. We'll definitely be back to this little joint next time we're up the hill. read more

Horrible customer service!!! I really never do this because I always try to look at the good sides about most places but this place is just something else .... So my friends & I ordered to go we called it in and everything. we picked it up everything was fine until I started to eat I suddenly noticed in between all my food there was hair . So I told my friend that there was hair in my food & my friend also said she had found a strand of hair in hers as well . We decided to call and let them know ... They did tell us that they were gonna give us a refund so when my friend went in to the store and was trying to get the refund. He was told that they don't do refund . With that being said he had also taken the boxes so he could show them ,because they wanted proof. They ended up telling him that there was no refunds .... so they came back I gave them a call and they told me that if I knew there was hair in my food why did I try to eat it ? ..well if I would've know there was hair in my food I wouldn't have ate anymore but it was in between my food . So they decided to come up with pathetic excuses about there cooks not having red hair. The Hair was light brown by the way . Then they told me that I have red hair which I don't,& they ended up telling me that they weren't stupid because they knew that that wasn't their cooks hair!? We really enjoyed this place for breakfast! There were 5 of us, kids included and each of us ordered very different items.... All were so good and hit the spot! The service was great, very friendly and fast - but not too fast to where you felt the kitchen didn't take time making the food well. We will definitely visit here again. Tried this place for first time and absolutely loved it. They have a great selection for brunch and the quality of food is great for the price.
