I went with my daughter and because we weren't terribly hungry we ordered the smallest hamburger with fries. When our burgers came I was truly shocked, both my daughter's and my own looked like they had been cremated. They were so over cooked the centers were indented, they were hard. The buns were all wrinkled and looked like they had just been taken out of the freezer and thawed out. I just couldn't believe they would serve something that bad and charge $10.00 each and then ask if everything was good. If we had more time I would have refused the food and refused to pay for it. But we were in a hurry so lesson learned, we will never go back there again. read more

Went here for breakfast three days in a row. Because I stayed at the Travelodge. :) As far as American breakfasts go, this place does fit the bill. The food was pretty good, service was good. It was really just ok, and not very memorable. Well I lied. There were two memorable things. First one was: all the TV show timbersports continuously (my money is on Jason Wynyard). Definitely add to the lumberjack ambience. Second thing was: on the first day of breakfast, my friend and I got seated in an area full of firefighters (rawr!). So thumbs up for that. :) read more

I am a great fan of the big American breakfast and I have a big American waistline to prove it. A GOOD, big American breakfast is increasingly hard to find - just go to any Denny's and see what I mean. The Redding Lumberjack's does it right. My wife had two poached eggs - poached with not a word of objection from the waitress, surprising my wife who has had problems getting poached eggs sometimes. Country fries and toast and OJ accompanied her meal. I had a most excellent large Denver omelette with toast, OJ and fruit. With our Travelodge discount, breakfast for two was $12.20. So I had the misfortune of being waited on by Norma. She lacked knowledge of basic menu items (she couldn't tell me the difference between the two different types of french toast) and got an attitude with me when I corrected her as she read my order back to. She asked me if I wanted bell peppers and onions in my potatoes and I asked for bell peppers only. She told me that was too difficult and I either had to have peppers and onions or have them plain. Seriously?!?! They're incapable of adding peppers to potatoes?? We waited forever for coffee refills, literally sitting with empty cups foe nearly 10 minutes.. Service was slow. When I finally got my food it was kinda gross. My first bite of french toast had a slimey/uncooked consistency, like raw egg whites. When I told her I didn't want it and asked her to take it back she started trying to interrogate me about why even though I told her that I didn't like it. Then she tried to tell me that I'd have to speak to her manager. In retrospect I totally should have spoken to the manager to share how mediocre the service was. After sending the food back she became sugary sweet and phony. When she brought my change back she gave me a backward apology and told me she hoped I had a better day, as if I went there in a bad mood which wasn't the case. I assured her my day was going to continue to be awesome. The reality is that restaurant service isn't always going to be great and I've actually had worse service. I gave it 2 stars because the coffee was good and the coffee mugs were huge. I won't go back. read more

I ordered 4 turkey dinner meals at Lumberjack's. When we got home, there were no vegetables, and the turkey was not roasted turkey, but processed turkey meat that we couldn't even eat, it was sooo bad. The pumpkin pie was not even a normal size slice, it was 1/3 the size, just a little sliver. I asked for the senior discount (we are 73) and that wasn't given either. We will never order food from Lumberjacks or dine in. This absolutely ruined our Thanksgiving meal. I wish I could give them 0 stars! read more

Ok, so they're a little over zealous on the 'cheery' staff aspect (a little too much if you ask me), but it was a nice change of pace to the apathetic servers you so often see. As everyone else has noted the breakfast servings are HUGE, even the beverages. We also had our food in front of us in seriously under 5 minutes. I understand that it's just some hash browns and eggs, but I feel like I didn't blink more than ten times and my meal was in front of me. Our food was decent; nothing extraordinary. I always judge a breakfast joint by their hash browns and theirs were a solid A-. The chicken fried steak was the best we've had in a loooong time. Could not be more impressed with this restaurant! Staff is super friendly, food is absolutely delicious & prices are so reasonable! The food was so good & the portion sizes were HUGE! Our waitress Kari was so sweet, she was prompt, & came by every time she saw we may need something. All other staff that came by asked how we were doing, the atmosphere is just so friendly. This was the most disappointing meal ever. I've been waiting days to try Lumberjack's breakfast burrito on my way through town and was so upset with what I got. The picture on the menu was not even comparable to what I received. The burrito is mushy and has no texture to it, basically the same as slop. I found them through Entree Express when looking to get dinners delivered to my folks who were not feeling well enough to go out while staying the night in Redding on their drive from Southern California to Washington. I first called with a few questions about their soup of the day and a couple of different menu items. I also wanted to make sure they'd be able to handle the order quickly enough to get it to the hotel in a timely manner. The gal I spoke with was friendly and helpful in answering my questions and when I called back with my order was very helpful. Following up with my folks, the meals arrived packaged well, with generous portions of very tasty food (open faced Hot Turkey Sandwich and an off-menu sandwich and side salad). They/we travel through/stop in Redding nearly a dozen times each year and Lumberjacks will likely become a regular stop for either dinner or breakfast. I am particularly grateful they took good care providing some comfort food for my folks when I wasn't able to be along on this trip. read more

Really excellent service. The manager Eduardo is super friendly and the waitresses really try their best. Went there just with the specific purpose of having their chocolate cake. It is described as a huge slice a cake and they are not kidding it is a super duper large slice of cake! Enough to feed like four people. It comes with fudge and ice cream. My wife and I travel through Redding twice every six weeks and Lumberjacks has become our breakfast and dinner first choice. Large bone in slice of ham with eggs is first rate. Dinner, every choice has been an ample size and with consistent good flavor. Prices are right in line with the quality and quick delivery. Service - we have never had the same server twice and every server has been bright, cheerful, professional and attentive. Who ever is doing the training is right on the money. It is wonderful to know that after 9-10 hours on the road I will be well fed and well cared for. read more

I wanted Lumberjacks to be so much better! I actually went here ages ago, twice, on the way up and on the way back down from our friends' wedding. The first time, I had this insane breakfast named after the American flag or something, that I think was pancakes covered with whipped cream and berries. I don't know. It was huge and kind of gross. The second time I got a grilled cheese which they put bacon on by mistake, and the cheese was also not even melted at all. The manager is really, really nice and the servers are attentive and sweet, not to mention the ambiance, which is so damned strange and kitschy. That's why I want to say something nice about Lumberjacks and give it two stars. But the food is TERRIBLE and really overpriced. Also, I think the cook might have been Nick Nolte on a meth bender. All the sliced fruit had citric acid on it, like when you buy sliced fruit at the grocery store and they use it to keep old fruit from turning brown. Gravy on the biscuits was bland. We ended up here because we stayed at a near-by Travelodge which gave us a voucher for either a small free breakfast, or discounted full size breakfast. We thought we were pretty hungry so opted for the larger breakfasts... We should have just stayed with the smaller free ones because the full-size were huge! We ended up bringing a whole meal home for left overs. We shared the chicken fried steak (crunchy outside, tender, juicy inside, good sausage gravy) with skillet potatoes (Also very yummy, not deep fried!) and eggs (they were eggs). And the banana bread french toast, which I have to say I surprised to even see on the menu, again yummy! The real treat of the meal was the HUGE homemade biscuit that came with the chicken fried steak, it was delicious! I imagine their biscuits and gravy are pretty special. My only disappointment was their orange juice... I saw a fresh juicing machine in the front and got excited to have fresh squeezed, but unfortunately it tasted like the juicer was full of peels, it tasted just the same as a concentrate. This was a great experience even with about a 15 minute wait to be seated because they were so busy.Our waitress was curious and helpful. Both of our plates were so good with giant portions and very good quality of food. When our plates were done they were served immediately by another person not our waitress.
