Going into Luna Grill, I sort of know what to expect. I haven't been in a long long time since this place in Hillcrest is not close by. However, picking up some pastries in Bread and Cie and realizing it's time for lunch, I hesitated but didn't want to deal with a new place across. I went for the tried and true. My craving for gyros meant an order here for that. I ordered the gyro plate which includes a side. I asked for the hummus and rice with my gyro. The rice was blah, but the gyros were good, the hummus delicious addition to the meal. The prices for food are rising, Who can afford almost $20 for lunch everyday. I however, try to eat lite so this plate was divided into two meals. Overall, it's not a bad choice. However there are smaller places that fill your plate with delicious rice and plentiful gyros in their plates. I love restaurants with plenty of salad and side dish varieties: Luna Grill meets or beats most; several main dish salads are also available as a side dish on your plate for a dollar or two more. Today I chose a simple plate-fragrant rice, tossed salad with vinaigrette, gyros and a Koobideh Kebab add-on. I enjoyed everything from the artisan lettuce salad, rice and gyros with pita and tziki, but my favorite was the Koobideh. Koobideh is a fragrant, seasoned ground beef entree rolled into balls and flattened then threaded on a skewer and placed over the fire. Delicious! The location offers on site parking, metered street parking, and as I mentioned is very near the University and 5th Avenue bus (MTS) stop. Customer service is helpful and friendly. Ordered takeout from this location and was in and out in about 20 minutes. The food was decent and cooked well. There are plenty of tables for dine-in, and the staff is quite friendly. The only downside is finding parking, but that's a common issue for restaurants in the Hillcrest neighborhood. read more
