I highly recommend the chicken pita with Tzaki Sauce with a side of Chipotle, or the chicken and salmon plates. We were excited to try some "healthy fast food" but the rice was literally flavorless (how hard is it to make rice), the chicken had a lot of gristle in it and was inedible, the grape leaves were inedible. I usually gun it back to Monterey Bay via I-5 like my life mattered in it but decided to take a slower scenic route via 101. With all that is happening with COVID-19, I actually had all the time in the world. This meant taking the other route that passes through coastal towns such as lovely Santa Barbara, which I knew I just had to pitstop at for a little bit. Most other Mediterranean places were closed when I arrived at 2:30 pm so they became the default spot. Following the COVID-19 measures in place, their dine-in option wasn't available and only offered takeout and delivery. I've honestly never heard of this chain prior to this visit even though they have been around and have about 50 outlets around SoCal and Dallas. Oops. That said, I usually don't care to review chains unless I actually recommend them or need to obliterate some nonsense that shouldn't happen. In their case, it was more of a surprise, nay, more a delight, that I truly enjoyed my meal far more than I expected despite consuming it sitting in my parked car. I had ordered the chicken and sirloin plate (or as some would better know it as Persian chicken and Lula Kebab/Koobideh) and was surprised at how properly cooked they both were. Chicken was so moist and the beef so flavorful that I was tempted to go back in and order the same thing again. Not something you'd expect at any chain these days so it was definitely a surprise and made them a worthwhile pitstop. Hopefully, they would open a spot here in Monterey. I went back today and found the food and service much improved, so I added some stars! This restaurant has gone downhill recently. After paying nearly $25 for a single entré without a drink, I'm informed of a 15-20 minute wait for the chef to cook it. The addition of a side of hummus to my order was not available. "Either rice or hummus, not both, unfortunately." The chicken kebab was overcooked and had the texture of shoe leather. The service was a comedy of errors with plates and utensils dropping on the floor behind the counter only to be re-used. read more
