He is clearly not a people person. Very short with words, un welcoming, and unfriendly. Took a while to get out complimentary bread. I had to get up myself after 15 minutes of having our bread to get my own oil and vinegar / plate. We only ordered 2 appetizers which took almost an hour. I loved this restaurant. It wasn't super packed in the middle of the week when I went. The staff were really nice - the waiter was very patient and provided us a lot of recommendations. My friend pre-drank was was pretty loud so I commend the staff for taking care of our table. I ordered the lobster ravioli and had the panna cotta. Solid pasta place with nice staff. They had fresh bread with a side of cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar for an appetizer. I ordered the calamari tomato pasta with fettuccine noodles. Very savory and a generous amount of squid that wasn't overcooked. Generous servings too but a bit pricey. For dessert we had these delicious baked good bites that were fluffy and crispy. Lightly sweetened too. They also gave us a free panna cotta for my birthday which was really nice of them and it was very good. We started by ordering a large Caesar salad for the table as well as a Al Tartufo pizza to split. We had a craving for some Alfredo sauce and this pizza was perfect with that and shaved truffle. So good. The Caesar was great as well. The table thoroughly enjoyed. For entrees our table ordered the petto di pollo funghi & marsala, the lobster ravioli, bolognese and tortellacci. Everyone was raving about their food. All we're very good and rich. For dessert, we got a creme brûlée, tiramisu and the peanut butter bomba. Amazing experience and delicious food! Came here with a reservation on a Friday night. I found out about this restaurant through Livingsocial. The outside seating is very romantic, there are outdoor heaters and live music playing acoustic versions of modern pop songs. Our server was very attentive and always checking in on us. We started off with two glasses of wine and they brought us complimentary bread and a marinara/polenta sauce for dipping. The sauce was delicious and the bread also went well with a mixture of balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and salt all of which were available on the table. Boyfriend and I ordered calamari, gnocchi al ragu, and the tortellacci to share. All of the dishes were very well portioned on pretty big plates. The calamari was perfectly crispy and the spicy marinara sauce complimented it well. The gnocchi al ragu was basically gnocchi pasta with meat sauce. It was sooo good, the sauce was very meaty and it had a good balance of salt and tanginess. The portion was huge so we took less than half of it home. The tortellacci is pasta filled with short ribs and a creamy black truffle sauce. This was the best dish of the night, the pasta melts in your mouth and the sauce was creamy and buttery. The mushroom flavor is very subtle. My mouth is watering thinking about this dish. Lastly, our server stopped by to drop off complimentary dessert wine (he said he had extras). The classic spaghetti and meatball dish had tiny meatballs that tastes like the frozen ones that you would get at the grocery store. I know this because my mom used these one time because it was a quick alternative instead of making them from scratch and the meatballs tasted identical to this. I had the spaghetti alla pescatora. The dish had mussels and clams and there was hardly any meat inside the shells of both the clams and mussels. So when I heard that a Luna Rosa opened in the District in Tustin, I had to check them out. The restaurant is expensive $$to$$$ so I was pleased hat they had a wine deal on Wednesdays when I went with a friend. A bonus was that they had happy hour pricing on few items. Tip: Come during off hours/days on weekdays and you're more likely to get better service. We ordered Calamari, Shrimp Alfredo, and the Spaghetti Pascatorri. The waitress said it was a good and popular choice. After she left, we chucked thinking that anything we ordered was an excellent choice. I dined here with a larger party of 25, and can only say that if you're looking for a family style Italian experience, this is the place for you. They put together one long table for our group, and the menu was pre-arranged, food served on large plates so everyone could take what they wanted. Where I was sitting, there was simply way too much food the entire time. At one end of the table, the eaters felt there wasn't enough. You can't be shy about asking for someone at the other end to pass over the good stuff. Service is fast and furious, with plates that just keep coming, and wine glasses constantly swapped out for fresh ones. The servers were on hand the entire time, keeping an eye on our progress. This made for a notable touch and a nice experience. The food: I'm not a big critic of Italian food, but one in our group spent a year in Italy, and commented that the pasta and sauces here are very authentic, and the restaurant has its origins in Italy. Our pasta course, with a vodka sauce, was very tasty, and universally liked, even by the youngsters. Calamari: We had several plates with generous piles, all lightly battered and tender, served with a sauce and lemon wedges. I probably ate too much of this, simply unable to help myself. Caesar salad: This was pretty standard and found no complaints. One nice plus was the waiter going around the table with a bowl of anchovies. I helped myself to several, and this elevated my salad. Chicken piccata: Served with vegetables and roasted potatoes, the potatoes being excellent, this was pretty good. The chicken was tender and not dried out, and the sauce was light and flavorful. It was a bit of a task to get more than a couple of bites here, as I was pretty stuffed by the time this came out. Tiramisu: As a rule I don't eat things like this, knowing what it will do to my blood sugar. I did have to at least taste it though, just a tiny bit so I could comment on it. Tasting their tiramisu was a huge mistake. Already very full, regretting my excesses, my fork took over and kept bringing me more. This was the best tiramsu I've had to date. Light, not too sweet, but oh so good. Coffee: In the end they offered espresso drinks, no coffee, but they made americanos for those wanting coffee. All very good. I was very pleased with the way they performed at every level. Even with our large group we couldn't find fault with anything, except for them taking away one of my wine glasses while I still had a good two sips left. A note about check-ins: They offer 20% off the bill (not the alcohol though) with Yelp check-in, a max of $50, but not with the set meals for large groups. Had dinner here with my girlfriend on Feb 1 around closing time. I had been wanting to try Luna Rossa for a while and we saw Yelp had a 20% off discount, so decided to try it. Even though it was chilly, we wanted to sit outside on the patio - they had space heaters set up, so we got a table next to one of those. Food: The food was delicious and were very big portions. For starters, we shared a plate of fried calamari. It was lightly fried and big pieces of Calamari. The marinara sauce was a little spicy and flavorful. For entrees, I had the Rigatoni con Salsiccia - it had big pieces of Italian sausage, mushrooms, and onions, perfect amount of sauce, and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend had the Spaghetti alla Pescatora. It had a lot of seafood, very fresh - my girlfriend loved it. All substantial portions and very filling. Our only regret is that we were too full for dessert. Ambiance: Inside is super classy, but we sat outside on the patio. Tables were very clean, it was late so was pretty quiet, and there was an acoustic guitarist playing some music which was nice. The music was perfect for the atmosphere. The restaurant is right next to the AMC so we could see people coming out of the theater - not a bad place to to people watch. Service: Service was very good. Even late at night, our server was very attentive, especially to my girlfriend's constant request for more sauce - it's not that they didn't provide enough... she just really likes marinara sauce, and particularly enjoyed Luna Rossa's marinara sauce. We were hoping for a great experience like other Yelp buddies had, but I guess it was not the day for that to happen for us. My husband purchased a Groupon as he loves Italian food. We decided to check this place out one Sunday early afternoon. When we arrived there was only a few people inside, and one guy getting his to-go order. The waiter seated us quickly and let us decide between two booths. After that things seem to dwindle down. We must have waited a good twenty minutes for him to return, and by then we were ready to order drinks (finally) and food at the same time. After taking our orders, a family he knew or was related to arrived and were seated immediately with drinks and bread. A lady working there brought us our bread. One good thing is that the food came very fast, which was nice since we waited nearly a half hour to begin with. My husband got the penne a la vodka which he enjoyed, and I got the gnocchi which came in meat sauce. He asked us if we wanted parmesan cheese and/or more bread. My husband said definitely more cheese, and we opted for more bread. The bread came. The cheese never did. He dropped the bread off and the cheese was never to be seen. My gnocchi was okay. It seemed more chewy and less potato like than I have had before. The place started to get more busy and it seemed like they got to them much quicker. We both took our food to go as we were full and headed off. A very average experience indeed. I will admit I did enjoy my food more reheated which was a plus and a downer at the same time, however I think we would both be willing to try it again. It just might be a bit because the lack of service, although friendly when it existed is a little deterrent. I would also hope to enjoy a future dish more than this one. We were promptly seated and ordered a glass of Rose ($10) and Chianti Ruffino ($11) to drink with the complimentary bread basket and evoo/balsamic. The carbonara was very creamy, but not too heavy. The crispy panchetta added a nice texture to the delicate shrimps. The Ravioloni Di Aragosta (lobster ravioli) came with appx 7 pieces and each were well stuffed with lobster meat. Luna Rossa pastas are excellent! My personal favorite is anything with the vodka sauce. Yesterday, I tried two desserts for the first time. I tried the snickers ice cream and the tiramisu. The snickers ice cream tasted just like the ice cream bars and I would highly recommend. As for the tiramisu, it was almost inedible. It felt like an expired chocolate sauce was used in the making of the desert and I could not even have more than one bite. It's pretty difficult to mess up tiramisu so be careful with ordering this dessert. read more
