I've lived in San Antonio since 2019 and have ordered takeout from Lupe Tortilla on 281 for numerous time since that time. The food is good....that's why we continue ordering from them. However, there's a major flaw with the takeout service. I'd say that maybe 50-60% of the orders are complete when I arrive home. It happened again today and I've had enough. There's an Olive Garden nearby and their takeout is ALWAYS correct. They even send me a survey asking how everything was. Do you think Lupe Tortilla cares.....NOPE. My wife and I have friends and relatives who we've brought to Lupe to eat. They love the food. But, I'll NEVER order takeout again since Lupe is so often sloppy about getting it complete. I do several reviews for several different places & hardly ever have to give a poor review, but come on Lupe Tortilla almost $10 for a beef fajita a la cart taco. I would be OK with the price if the taco was stuffed w/ meat & some pico/ avocafo in the side. To pay almost $10 for 1 beef fajita taco is SAD. I can go to Papa Nacho & pay a few $$s less & get a much better beef fajita taco. I will not make that mistake again. Fair pricing is expected & it definitely was not fair. read more

I visited this restaurant for team lunch during a work trip. I loved the home like decor of the restaurant. My team was able to get a large table in the back room to accommodate our group of 9. We started with salsa and bean dip with chips. Both were delicious. The salsa was a little spicy but I loved the flavors. I ordered the chicken fajitas because they came highly recommended. The food came out hot and sizzling. The flavors were delicious and I loved rice and beans. I also had a prickly pear margarita which was yummy and had great presentation. read more

Good food and friendly service. The manager makes the effort to check in on each table, which I appreciated. The food was overall pretty good, but the fish tacos were overcooked. Luckily, they quickly fixed it. Solid Tex-Mex spot, but it did get a bit loud at times. Still, I'm a fan and would definitely come back. read more

We were a party of 10 with 5 adults and 5 children. We were told that our wait time would be about 30 minutes. We arrived around 5:55 PM. We ended up waiting a total of 45 minutes, which is understandable. However, we wish we would have been told as we were checking in "hey it's going to be a long wait if you are interested in ordering a drink at the bar right now is still happy hour and we will be happy to take care of you guys once a table comes available." After waiting 45 minutes with 5 children we were hungry and disappointed because it was our first time dining with Lupe Tortillas. After asking twice to see how much longer it would be for us to be seated, we felt more frustrated and then we noticed that they were finally putting a table together for 10 people and there was chips waiting. It would have been nice if someone came to us and said "we understand that you've been waiting for a while. Do you see this table here? We are preparing it for you." It shouldn't be much more than another five minutes. Once we were seated and our waitress came Lillian, we had a different experience! She was phenomenal! To be quite frank if we decide to return it will not be a large group. But the way she took care of us and the quality of food was the positive experience that we had this evening. Our family was visiting from out of town and we were looking forward to enjoying a nice dinner together. Some of the other adults were frustrated for most of the meal, but I think that was because of our dilemma with getting seated in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, the initial service that we experienced while waiting on a table has room for improvement. Lillian is the only reason that my husband and I might want to come back. We know now that coming with a large group was too much. However, her (Lillian)timelines and communication skills helped to make up for the wait time at the beginning. read more

A friend told us to stop by this place because they had a killer margarita. After trying it, all we can say is, it's aight. Not missing much from other Tex-Mex locations. We visited on a Sunday and made the mistake to not look if they had call ahead. We ended up waiting about 25 minutes for a table for 2 and a baby. They sat us in a booth and what we didn't like is the high-chair doesn't reach the booth table. So they offered us a booster. Well our baby is 14 months and he doesn't stay still, needless to say, he would fall out. Only one other restaurant has har a booster that you are able to tie the baby in and it's so awesome. But not here. So since we've learned our lesson, we brought our own. No complimentary chips, we purchased our own. The waitress was nice but kept forgetting to bring me some sugar. I guess they are suffering from being short-staffed like other restaurants in the industry because it didn't look too busy but the wait was long. The food was aight. Nothing exceptional. We saw on the cup it said since 1986 and honestly we've never heard of them. I'd rather go to mom and pop restaurants. I think it's more of the feel of Tex-Mex food. We all nearly died when they brought us out our fajitas. The pepper became pepper spray and fumigated the whole room. Our table of 6 and the surrounding tables all began coughing. As my wife and I wandered around La Cantera yesterday, we started discussing food options. All of a sudden, it struck me I hadn't been to Lupe Tortilla in a couple of years. It's just not something that ever lands on our radar, and part of me wondered why. So, off we went. Upon arrival, it was decently crowded but we were seated right away. Problem: they didn't' have menus for us. Struggling to look at the menu on our phones, our server ultimately wrangled us up a couple of menus. But - it just seemed odd; yes, it was crowded, but now packed - how do fail to have enough menus? Overall - our experience was okay - it was nothing to "write home about". It was a beautiful afternoon, the alfresco atmosphere was great, and our server was good - but at the same time - the experience was just...mediocre. The queso was just okay. We thought the fajitas were okay - definitely overpriced for what you get. In the end, overpriced mediocrity keeps Lupe Tortilla off my radar. read more

It took a while to get my card and back only to be told there was a error and it had to be voided. The manager tried to stick me with 80.00 bill rather than my 54.00. Will never visit again. I wanted to like Lupe Tortilla since the customer service was great, yet I can't handle hot foods, so my visit was a bust. It's a shame since the restaurant staff knew it was my first time and also knew I was avoiding hot foods. Even the head chef stopped by the table to welcome us. I ate parts of my meal, yet there is very little I would come back for. How hot was the food? I requested a glass of milk to tone down my mouth and knew I needed heart burn meds the moment I arrived home. Nearly everything was hot - fajitas, rice, salsa, etc. I'm all about flavorful foods, yet there was too much emphasis on the use of jalapeños and other peppers as the flavors of the meal. Someone must have been mad when adding that ingredient. I really liked the whole beans served at the start of the meal, yet when I requested the same beans as part of my meal, I found a few beans mixed in with a heap of souped veggies used to flavor the beans. If you're a fan of hot foods, come for a visit. If your stomach can't handle the heat, I warned you! read more

We had a party of seven and came early - 4:30 - because it was Friday. They said about 15 minutes and checked us in. The text came in to tell me that the table was ready. They were surprised and said it wasn't ready. The place was pretty empty at that time of day so I was confused but they finally got us seated. Our waiter, Marcos, was great. A couple of patio chairs were free so we grabbed a couple of drinks from the bar while waiting for our table. We had a Dos Equis and a seasonal Blood Orange Margarita. After being sat, our waitress greeted us with a couple of glasses of water. We already knew what we wanted so we ordered everything all at once. I get to work (kitchen shift) and had to keep running to the bathroom. It was soooo nice to be fighting for my life, in my 'one toilet' bathroom. I loved locking eyes with our customers that were WAITING ON ME TO GET OUT OF THE GODDAMN BATHROOM, as I was sweating absolute balls and wanting to die. Almost 12 hours later, I am writing this review on my toilet. I got to work in a hot dish pit while struggling NOT to shit myself. Then close. The one decent thing was the service. No complaints there. The salsa was subpar .... But, I think the beans may have been the culprit that lead this gut fuckery karma to hit me. read more

The Lupe Tortilla at the Rim seems to have declined SIGNIFICANTLY!!!! Unfortunately, I can't say we'll be back as the last several visits have left, well, EVERYTHING to be desired. I mean absolutely NOTHING was right!!! First, I ordered from the brunch menu as it was late morning on a Sunday. Hatch Barbacoa tacos with a poached egg, I forget exactly what it was called. Well, after placing the order we were informed they didn't have the "Hatch." No problem sir, we'll just make them without, I agreed. And I will say, they were...edible, not the worst I've ever had. Second, we had the dish mentioned above and 4 floutas. You'd think maybe ~15 min right... Negative, 30 some odd minutes later we got food, WRONG FOOD!!!!! The order was incorrect, so there's that. Third, the manager came out to address all the issues. We basically got a: "yep it took a while to get your food huh" and "yeah, we should probably update the menu with what we don't have anymore" The icing on the cake was when he threw our waitress under the bus with a "she didn't tell you she entered the order wrong did she".... I think my jaw hit the table!!! I didn't request any compensation for all the issues, and he dang sure didn't offer.... ANYTHING!!!! Just threw his people under the bus and have a nice day. This kind of leadership will permeate through the culture and leave much to be desired, which summarizes our past few encounters. Arrived to a very short wait. Practically no wait at all on a Friday evening 7pm. Place was still full. Had a very pleasant server. She was attentive and kept the drinks and extras coming. The only thing I found odd is a place called Lupe ***TORTILLA*** and you don't get tortillas with your plates. Hhhhmmmm... but other than that everything was darn near perfect. My family came to town to celebrate a bunch of January birthdays, including mine! After a long night of catching up and a slow morning, we decided to convene at my brother's favorite place, Lupe's. We arrived at about 1 and we're told there was a 45 minute wait. So we say and waited and it was fine. We finally get a table at about 10 to 2 and once we say down and got menus we realized we were just going to miss brunch by a couple minutes. DEVASTATING. We wallow on frozen drinks on this very cold day. Things were good. Our server was Adam. Adam was patient and handled our large party amazingly well. We ordered the queso and Fajitas Barbacoas for the table. The place was pretty busy and the service a little slow. We filled up on chips, queso, salsa, and beans. By the time the food arrived, we were pretty stuffed. Everything was delicious. The Fajitas Barbacoas came with beef and chicken fajitas, ribs, grilled onions, peppers, rice, beans, guacamole, pico, and tortillas. What was missing was the jalapeno sausage promised on the menus description. Although it was missing from the table, we were all charged for it. The good was really good, especially the corn tortillas. The ribs practically feel off the bone. And both the chicken and beef fajitas were perfectly tender. After the meal it took quite a bit of time to get the check. Once we noticed the discrepancies, we had already waited so long, we didn't both to bring it up. Everything was so good and we understand the staffing issues businesses are facing. We will definitely return and hopefully I'll be able to try that jalapeno sausage. ALSO! I don't know how it works, but while we were waiting for our table we realized we could've joined the wait-list online. Highly recommend using that option! read more

The ribs here are amazing!!!!! They have a very wide food selection here but it is a little over priced compared to other restaurants with the same menu options. The drink selection is very wide here. When we went it took a long time to get our drinks they came after the food came but understand as the bar was very busy that day. I came to San Antoino on business during the week of 5 February. Since I'm from Texas and live in Germany, I was craving good TexMex. We came to your location on the evening of the 6th and was treated extremely well by our server, Vince. Vince made fantastic recommendations for both food and beverages. He didn't attempt to "up-charge" our orders and even recommended something from the bar that wasn't on the menu. It was FANTASTIC! We had came for a graduation dinner where a room was rented, and the food was great! Chips & salsa were given upon sitting down. A few mix fajita platters were served for the full party with chicken & beef fajita, sausage, ribs and a small side of rice and beans. The ribs were an interesting touch, but delicious nonetheless! Good service as well. I did have to ask for a second water 5 times, my daughter's kids drink never came and the kids plates came out about 10 minutes after all of the fajita platters for the full table, but I understand it was a large party for a week day and I'm more than sure that contributed. The restaurant had a great ambiance. I'd like to return again with a much smaller party lol. read more

The vibe instantly reminded me of a chain joint - they have the laminated, artsy menus which are clearly corporately created, signage and "specials" of the season signs all over, but I kept an open mind about the experience. Service was fast and at first, I thought the server was too rushed to get in/out of or table, but I realized he was friendly, he just had a lot going on with other tables. The tableside guac was great! Very flavorful, especially with the roasted green chilis added to it! The salsa they provide was excellent! The frijoles that came with the chips and salsa was boring and bland, but the refried beans that came with my entrée were tasty and decent. The food at this restaurant was pretty good- the guacamole tasted great but overall small portion. The margaritas were good but a little on the sweet side for my personal taste! They had some cool options for tacos- and you can get just one if you're not feeling super hungry which is great! The vibe is awesome- indoor/outdoor options and the indoor options can be fully inside or in the sun with the garage doors. Our server was very nice and helpful, but something that impacted our experience negatively was the hostess. She was pretty rude and unpleasant, she seemed put off that we asked to see if outdoor seating was available. read more
