The bar staff here are absolutely fantastic - Kait, Victoria, and Ray are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely fun to interact with. They're efficient, knowledgeable, and go out of their way to accommodate guests, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Service strikes the perfect balance: attentive without ever feeling overbearing. Big appreciation as well to the management team. They're extremely accommodating with dish substitutions and special requests, which is a huge plus for dietary needs or unique preferences. Came here to celebrate a family members birthday. I was pleasantly surprised with Lupe's. I got the beef fajitas and they were really soft and flavorful. I'm a sucker for a good chicken tortilla soup and Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant does it right. My bowl was full of flavorful soup with chunks of chicken and garnished with avacado. Paired with the chips and salsa and their huge margaritas their generous portions always leave me with leftovers. I love the décor and the spacious dining areas with plenty of seating inside and out. About 30 mins after we were seated, he made us feel rushed and unwelcome before we had even ordered our meal. His tone was short, dismissive, and unprofessional. Instead of checking on us in a courteous way, it felt like he was hovering just to push us out faster. There was no warmth, no hospitality, and no effort to make a birthday celebration feel acknowledged or appreciated. I fully understand that restaurants get busy and table turnover matters, but professionalism and basic respect should never be compromised. A manager sets the tone for the entire establishment, and in this case, the tone was rude and uncomfortable. Being rushed out during a birthday dinner with family is not something any guest should experience.Especially because the rudeness was spoken to my parents. Not only did it make them upset it made them not enjoy the rest of dinner and took away from the great waiter we had Pablo who provided excellent service but didn't get what he deserved because of his managers mistakes. We went to Lupe Tortilla on a Friday around 8pm. There was about a 45 min wait. They took my number and would text when the table was ready. We were seated in about 30 mins. The service was good our waitress was very friendly and nice. They give you chips, salsa and beans to eat while you are sitting. I got an ice tea that I had to send back it didn't taste good. Not a problem just got a coke instead. When it comes to the food it's obviously Tex-Mex which is different to me than Mexican food. So I am a little biased when it comes to Mexican food. That being stated The bartender Dina has been here every time I come for lunch and sit at the bar. It's clear she's been here for at least a few years. She is extremely hospitable and efficient. She had a bar filled with regulars but treated me with the same enthusiasm and energy. She makes a mean margarita and watching her navigate a busy lunch shift is nothing short of amazing. A household name amongst Tex-Mex chains, there's a Lupe Tortilla in practically every major city in the state. This location in the RIM probably my favorite amongst the three spots in the San Antonio area. That's not really saying much. Lupe Tortilla at The RIM fits the profile of many bizes within the perimeter: chain'y, busy, and huge. There's a crowd every night and plenty of parking spaces to boot. The weekend brunch hour is probably the most intense it'll get, but be prepared to wait especially during prime hours. The service feels understaffed at times, but solid for the most part. The good news is that they have a lot of variety and the portions are very decent. There should be a little something for all palates and dietary restrictions and it should leave most people plenty stuffed. The bad news is that a lot of it is overpriced and much of the items are super salty. Generally the food has some hits and misses, such is the nature of popular chains. I have enjoyed their enchiladas in the past, as well as their fajitas and a decent number of their brunch options. The barbacoa benedict was a bit of a salt bomb, but I couldn't get enough of the guacamole and their complimentary salsa. I'm not particularly crazy over their rice, beans, potatoes, or salads. Chile relleno and quesadillas are very average overall. There's no denying their ambiance is always festive and crowded. A few of their cocktails (especially during happy hour) is a nice way to pass the time here. Even if the food is average, it will never trump good drinks and even better company. The manager (apologies for forgetting his name) welcomed us and asked if it was our first time, then thanked us for being there. I am not sure how this place does not have a 4.5-5 star rating! We were a party of 10 with 5 adults and 5 children. We were told that our wait time would be about 30 minutes. We arrived around 5:55 PM. We ended up waiting a total of 45 minutes, which is understandable. However, we wish we would have been told as we were checking in "hey it's going to be a long wait if you are interested in ordering a drink at the bar right now is still happy hour and we will be happy to take care of you guys once a table comes available." After waiting 45 minutes with 5 children we were hungry and disappointed because it was our first time dining with Lupe Tortillas. After asking twice to see how much longer it would be for us to be seated, we felt more frustrated and then we noticed that they were finally putting a table together for 10 people and there was chips waiting. It would have been nice if someone came to us and said "we understand that you've been waiting for a while. Do you see this table here? We are preparing it for you." It shouldn't be much more than another five minutes. Once we were seated and our waitress came Lillian, we had a different experience! She was phenomenal! To be quite frank if we decide to return it will not be a large group. But the way she took care of us and the quality of food was the positive experience that we had this evening. Our family was visiting from out of town and we were looking forward to enjoying a nice dinner together. Some of the other adults were frustrated for most of the meal, but I think that was because of our dilemma with getting seated in a reasonable amount of time. When we got there it was about a 40-45 minute wait. We waited a total of 46 minutes. We have been wanting to go for a couple of weeks and the place looks so popular. When we got the text that our table was ready, we were walked to a dirty table that still needed to be cleaned. The gentleman that walked us over apologized and grabbed the bus bin tray that was there and told us he would get it cleaned up. A young lady came by cleaned it up with a damp/wet towel and walked off. She never once addressed us, it was as if we didn't exist as we were standing there. My husband and I just looked at each other. The gentleman that brought us to our table must have noticed we were still standing as he came by and asked if everything was okay. I asked him if there was a way to dry the seats and table. He apologized and got a dry rag to dry off the table and chairs. I thought to myself; do they really expect you to sit on a wet chair and put your items on a wet table? Let's just say it wasn't off to a good start and it did get that much better. Our waiter was nice, but did get my drink order wrong. I ordered the mango-rita but was delivered a regular margarita. I told the person who delivered the margarita that I had ordered the mango-rita to which he replied "the ticket says a margarita". I calmly said, it's wrong; I wanted the mango-rita. Then the rest of our drinks were delivered with . . . the margarita. Seriously, how distracted can you be??? I had to once again point out that it was the wrong drink. A couple of minutes passed and I was informed that the machine was broken and the mango-rita was not available. So I asked for extra time to look at the drink menu again. I ended up getting the Sunrise en la Playa, which tasted really good. While we waited we ate the complimentary chips and dips. One was frijole based that was served warm and the other did not look appetizing at all!!! It literally looked like I had made sofrito and dumped it in a small container, it tasted meh My husband had The Juan and I had the Green enchiladas; both were delicious but I didn't take pictures because we were starving and just dug in. I considered giving this place a one star review for a horrible first impressions combined with the lack of care for the margarita mix up by the other waiter. What bumped it up to a two was that our waiter was nice and he tried to make up for the margarita mix up. I honestly don't think we will be going back. I'm from California visiting relatives in San Antonio. My wife and I had lunch here on Monday and the food, service and staff were AMAZING (this is my 2nd review). We went home raving to our family about our experience. They decided that they wanted to have the same experience, so we came back for dinner on Tuesday. I informed the hostess that I had lunch here the day before and that my family wanted to try it as well and that this is their first time here. I also mentioned the same thing to our waitress. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the First Time welcome that we got the day before. Wayne, the GM did stop by our table twice check on us. When leaving, I stopped to talk to Wayne and asked him if they only do the first time greeting at lunch. He said NO, for every first time visitor. I told him that we had such a fantastic experience yesterday, my family wanted to have the same experience, but didn't get it. Wayne apologized and said that if they had told him, we certainly would have received it. Wayne said he would speak to the hostess and our server. We still had a fantastic meal. We ordered 1 1/2 lbs of Steak & Shrimp Fajitas. This was more than enough for 4 adults and 2 children. As much as I liked the steak fajitas yesterday, the shrimps were equally delicious. Everything was delicious. My niece and nephew are picky eaters and they liked the food and loved & devoured the Ice Cream Taco. I enjoyed my interactions with Wayne. I was impressed that he took the time to say hello and check in on us. He also remembered me from before. I felt welcomed into your restaurant and Wayne (and Jocue from Monday) made me feel special. I have never felt like this or received this kind of special treatment at any restaurant. I worked for a company that had this motto: "Treat every guest as you would a guest in your home". I felt like a guest in Lupe Tortilla's home. I have already told my wife. Lupe Tortilla will be the first meal out whenever we come back to San Antonio. So much to say about this place, but I'll try to keep it short. Very cool ambiance/decor. I wanted to give this place 4 stars but there are a couple of reasons why I didn't. It's Loud, which generally we like in a restaurant when we have our kids with us, however, this place is too loud. I don't know if it was the acoustics from the building materials, concrete floors and metal panel ceilings. It was so loud, it was hard to listen and carry a normal toned conversation. Service was great. Cameron was our server and he was good. A man of few words but professional and attentive. It was a big table, 12 people and he handled it like a two top. Bravo brotha! Now the food. It was good Tex-mex about what you would expect it to be, however, it's a bit pricey for Tex-mex. Seems like prices everywhere are just getting higher and higher. But I know a couple places that have just as good tex-mex for cheaper and closer to me. I ordered the "BIG SUCKER" burrito, as their menu states. When I received my food I almost broke out in a giggle, because it was not a "big sucker" like the menu claimed. It was not much bigger than my fist. It must be a joke. Idk. For $22.95 and that name, I expected more from the plate. The size of the plate itself is a good portion so I would say at the very least, change the name. The queso was soooo good! We then chose to Maximo fajita platter which says serves 3 to 4, but we ended up going home with left overs. It was a great amount of food for the price! I got some very COLD shoulders from both hostesses from then on! Manager had tables pushed together and finally got us seated...gave us one free bowl of queso for the table of nine for having to wait. effort anyway! I've lived in San Antonio since 2019 and have ordered takeout from Lupe Tortilla on 281 for numerous time since that time. The food is good....that's why we continue ordering from them. However, there's a major flaw with the takeout service. I'd say that maybe 50-60% of the orders are complete when I arrive home. It happened again today and I've had enough. There's an Olive Garden nearby and their takeout is ALWAYS correct. They even send me a survey asking how everything was. Do you think Lupe Tortilla cares.....NOPE. My wife and I have friends and relatives who we've brought to Lupe to eat. They love the food. But, I'll NEVER order takeout again since Lupe is so often sloppy about getting it complete.
