Again with the 5 stars, I feel sorry for the people that have a never better than this experience. What would they do when they run into a really good place??? We have had our office in Windsor for 3 years now and this week was the first time we tried Lupe's because we won't go back to several of the places on the same street, some closed up because of crappy food and service the others are just lame. We know Mexican food, and this is a poor toss together excuse. The first thing that tells me that a place is mediocre is that the menu has hundreds of items instead of 20 or less that are done to perfection. I ordered a "super taco" and my wife ordered a ceviche torta. First let me tell you about my "super taco" they first should drop the "super" from it, because of how disappointed I was when a regular taco which 65% of it was shredded lettuce, with only about a tablespoon full of Lengua. The Lengua ( beef tongue) had a scorched taste to it where it was left in a pot too long and got burnt. Wife's civiche was ok, but again, 75% lettuce, there were people sitting around that were feasting on football sized burritos, so I can imagine the place has some stuff your face dishes that make patrons feel like they have gone to heaven. I have been here a couple of times, though I think this is my first time to yelp. Had a great lunch there today. We had two entrees and split them, the shredded chicken chimichanga, and the tilipia fish tacos. They were both very good. Good efficient service, and the place was full. Good sign! My wife and I love Lupe's. I it the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been too? No. The food is okay, but nothing to rave about. However, they are family owned and run, and very nice people. We always feel welcomed when we eat there, which is often. There is a full bar, so we can enjoy our meal with a favorite libation. Like I said, there are better Mexican restaurants if you are only looking for great food. But, for a comfortable dinning experience staffed by some genuinely nice people, Lupe's Diner will fit the bill. read more

The menu extensive and there are so many options available for those who crave spicy food and those who prefer the more mellow. This is the very rare situation where an initial terrible first I,press ion transformed into an extremely positive one. We were met with a very cold temperature and the salsa was more like simple tomato sauce out of the can, and we told the server so. That almost guarantees a terrible experience to come. Our server bent overpack wards to make,us feel comfortable, bringing out 4 different sauces that were all good, and taking the time to make amends and make us feel comfortable. And then the food came out, and it was great, including a tweak requested by my companion. I had been on a strict diet and exercise regimen and was finally going to treat myself to one of Lupe's Deluxe burritos, you know, the one with all the sauce on top. Well it wasn't a treat, it was punishment. Everything on the plate was SO BLAND. I had to put the salsa from the chips on the "Mexican" rice to church it up. We've eaten here twice now, and both times my food was excellent (enchiladas, then tilapia tacos)--my sister had the shrimp tacos and said they were the best she's had in a long time. Our whole family enjoyed their meal, I will definitely be returning. My elderly grandmother and I stopped in to have lunch here yesterday afternoon and had a wonderful meal. The food is good (we had the guacamole appetizer and chicken mole enchiladas), but what really made our meal awesome was the service. It was perfect. The two young guys serving food were kind, considerate and provided a real personable experience for us. You could tell that they enjoyed people and the food they were serving. So rare these days to find restaurants with employees who truly care about people and the experience they have. We will definitely be back to Lupe's when in the area. read more

We tried it, even though we read the mixed reviews. And we're so glad we did! I got chicken and beef fajitas, my husband got pastor chimichanga, and both were delicious! The margaritas didn't disappoint either! We visited from Texas, and we love our Mexican food, and we loved this place. Went to Lupe's in a whim recently and I will NEVER EVER EVER go back! Thinking Windsor Town Green...should be a good place to eat....how wrong could I be! The restaurant itself is nice, the service was fair and for the most part the food was OK, not great - but ok. That was until I took a look at my 4 year old's 1/2 eaten corn dog and it was greyish, greenish discolored! I was freaked! I showed the server then asked what type of corn dog it was....His explanation.. "I don't know, they come from Cash N Carry". OMG, I almost threw up!. I left the rest of our meals and asked for the check, I was so disgusted. The server brings me the check and it has a $2.00 discount on it. WOW, I will NEVER go back and I will surely let anyone and everyone know NEVER to go here. HORRIBLE! PS Yes, I know corn dogs aren't necessarily usual to Mexican restaurants. Sat at the table for a good 10 minutes before we got menu's or any kind of service. We have to ask for anything, even when the waitress brought our drinks back I saw her look at our empty salsa and didn't ask if we wanted more as she should have. The waitress finally brought us our food but with no silver ware or napkins or anything. We had to wait another 5 minutes before we got their attention to bring us some! We cut open the burrito and my girlfriends burrito had salsa and guacamole in it and no sour cream. She specifically asked for sour cream in it, and no salsa or guacamole. Had lunch around 2 pm on a nice sunny day while out chaperoning school students. Place was very nice, clean and no wait, instructed to sit "anywhere you like". Selected a nice window seat, menu did not have a lunch special which is OK, the menu is very nice and easy to read, ordered the super pork burrito. Chips were nice and warm, salsa was OK as i am a spicy eater! Asked for extra napkins when waitress brought out the lunch, but she forgot or something as she was serving other customers. I had to wave to the other waitress, then asked her for more napkins and asked if she could bring me some spicer salsa. She did promptly. We had a party of 2 and it was Friday night. The place was crowded( a good sign) and we sat in the bar, as that's all that was available. Patience-The young waiters answered my wife's questions on the sauces, to make sure she did not get something she was not expecting. My wife had the Camerones Diablo, which indicated was going to be Hot. Service- The waiters were very attentive. Between the Bartender and 1 server they covered the room. Quality of the food- The food had a very freshly prepared flavors, servings were generous. The chile relleno was huge and the Tamale was stuffed with Pork. Clean- The restaurant, and the restrooms were impeccably clean. I commented on this to the servers as well. What more can you expect on a Friday Night during the Dinner Rush? Was disappointed. Food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything that I would go back for. I had a shrimp fajita burrito, the onions and bell peppers were not sautéed but just cooked in the burrito, there wasn't any flavor to it at all. The strawberry mojito was very good tho, I would consider going back to have a drink at the bar. The service ( like the food) wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Maybe I chose the wrong item but the crab enchiladas were awful! No crab to be seen, only some kind of shredded product mixed with chopped tomatoes and folded into flour tortilla then covered with cheese which was only partially melted. For the price and time of year, I certainly expected to see crab. I don't even think it was canned crab?! The flan was ok, not the best I've had. Overall, not worth visiting again. Too bad because I love visiting the Windsor green. There are so many excellent Mexican restaurants in Sonoma county, no need to settle for mediocrity though. Lupes is overall ok. I've been going there since it opened in the Town Green. The food is somewhat on the bland side. The carne asada is dry and bland. The Chile Verde tasted okay but the presentation needed some help. My sister got the enchilada combo with a tamale. The enchilada sauce had a good flavor to it (though it is nothing like my grandmothers traditional enchilada sauce) and the tamale was all masa and barely had any meat. Beans are tasty but the rice needs some more flavor (maybe some more kosher salt would help). The chips and salsa are normally good. However, I went on a day where the chips were rather stale. To me the food is way over priced for the quality of the food and the service was nothing spectacular. We only dine at Lupes when we don't feel like driving far to get Mexican food.... and believe me most of the time we do make the drive. read more

My class took a field trip to Lupe's on Thursday, January 26th for lunch. Lupe's is located on the Town Green in Old Downtown Windsor. The location has a nice view of the park across the street. Entering the restaurant, the staff was very friendly and courteous. I also noticed that the place was quiet and clean. We were seated right away and were given a bowl of chips and salsa. The salsa was great. While viewing the menu, I immediately noticed that this place did not have a lunch menu. Therefore, I felt the prices were quite pricey for a lunch time meal. I ordered the Super Nachos and a large Root beer. Let's just say, there was nothing super about them. It was a small plate of chips, meat, cheese, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. My plate looks like it was built for a small child. The sour cream tasted like it might have been old. The waitress never did come back and ask if I needed anything else, nonetheless a re-fill on my drink. I have eaten at Lupe's in the past with my parents when they first opened. I have always liked this place. Although, I do have to say that the last few times I have eaten there, the quality of food and service was lacking. There are several other Mexican restaurants in the area that I choose to go to before I choose Lupe's. Would I recommend them to anyone? I would say yes but not to expect the world's best Mexican food. read more

Went in on Tuesday about 5, and sat outside. Had a young male as our waiter. He took our drink order, brought out chips and left. No silverware, napkins, nothing. He came back to take the order and we weren't ready, he got upset and stormed off, the second time he back (20 minutes later) we were ready. We ordered, and he brought out the food, still no silverware, as my boyfriend went in to get it the waiter just have a smug look, no apologise nothing.
