This is always a wonderful experience, located in a busy part of DC right below the cross-section of 14th and U, next door to the Trader Joe's. I have come here many times, especially during the warmer months where they have a tiny front patio and 2 high top tables right by the window. On this past visit, my partner and I got a spot inside and enjoyed watching the excitement of everyone passing by. This is the more casual version of Lupe Verde, located next door. The menu is heavy on the pizza side (given the name) with some appetizers and salads. We also ordered the meatballs, which neither of us particularly loved, but hey, we still ate them anyway. Our server was friendly and efficient. She was covering the entire restaurant so we were impressed with how she managed to check in and make sure everything was good even though she was just days into her job. What's a fun fact we learned? There is a speakeasy under this place! We've been here at least a half dozen of times and I had no idea. The speakeasy is open Sundays-Wednesdays and has a separate menu. I went to check it out, which involved finding the right book to pull off the bookshelf to get inside. There wasn't a soul in there. I mean, this is the ultimate secret speakeasy, right? My partner and I ended up just staying at our table to enjoy a glass of wine before heading home (and I may have fit in a quick shopping trip at the nearby Trader Joe's!). Late night, middle of the week, my friends and I were looking for anything to eat and nothing was open except for this absolute gem of a pizzeria. I've been to Lupo Verde and Lupo Marino before so I expected that we were in for good pizza, but I had no idea how much better their pizza-only establishment would be compared to the siblings (if that's possible. Because they are excellent). Fortunately the group were all into sharing so we got to sample each other's pies. All were 10's but the Carbonara pizza was absolutely transformational. I've never had a pizza with such a flavor bomb. If you are curious about it, do it. We got there late so the place was practically empty, but first impression is that they are set up for volume. Came for a birthday and because of an offer for free pizza. After we arrived and were seated the server informed us, on the spot (without asking a manager), that the offer would not be honored. She didn't even want to see the offer but just explained that their CEO or whatever was fired/left and whatever that person did is ancient history (literally from a month ago) and whatever. The pizza itself was alright. The crust was charred. The mushrooms didn't taste fresh (maybe canned?) and the meat toppings could've been better distributed on the pizza. Basil was lacking. The birthday boy got a free shot instead of his non-birthday promised pizza, which was nice of them, but the false promise (aka reason we came to Lupo) left a bitter aftertaste and I personally would not return. read more

This review is for 5/11/25. As much as I've hung out on that street, I've never been to this place. I ordered an old fashioned and the Di Patate Pizze with pepperoni and removed the potato's. The pizza was actually really good and fulfilling. Apparently they have a speakeasy behind the bar that leads to this huge space down in the anemones with a bar and several tables and couches to sit comfortably. There was only the manager who acted as the bar tender and three other people with us. Definitely gave a great intimate vibe that I'd like to enjoy again in the future. Pizza is a bit pricey, but these Neapolitan-style pies are delicious. The dough has a perfect flavor and chew, standard cheese and sauce was delectable, and even the mini-sized Tuscan pepperoni had a nice kick, curved upward, and were plentiful throughout the pizza for their standard pepperoni option - and I'm not usually a pepperoni guy either. But yes, back to pricey - at $19, it's a little steep for this type of pizza not big enough to feed 2 people. Prices definitely have gone up since 2022. There's still some worthy items to choose on the menu. And also Happy Hour if on a budget. Ambience was nice - casual, and the bar somehow looked more enticing than the table side sitting option (but of course, I would probably pick the table if I was with someone else). This has quickly become one of my favorite sit down pizzerias in DC. It is affiliated with Lupo Verde and Lupo Marino, but I think this is the better one of the three. It doesn't seem o get crowded however. Their pizzas are great and they have great options for appetizers and sides. Their drinks are really good too. I love their selection of Italian spirits. We had a reservation for a large group and were placed in the basement and largely forgotten about. Our server was pretty rude, especially when it came to asking allergy related questions and we had a hard time getting our order in. The other lupo locations have lots of gluten free options and there was only one option here. Except when the pasta came it wasn't gluten free and had to be remade. The chicken was massively overcooked and the sauce was pretty tasteless. The caprese salad was quarters of tomatoes which were hard to eat and it was overall just not great food and average wine. Overall this is a solid Italian place. Both entrees were about 22 dollars each which isn't an insane price for dinner in DC. Had the diavola which i wish was a bit spicer since it was advertised as a spicy pizza. But the cheese on it was great! The gnocchi was delicious and the crispy bread dipped in the sauce was amazing. Came here for a birthday brunch and had a wonderful time! We all ordered different brunch pizzas and they were amazing. I chose the Uova e Pancetti pizza, which was a cheese pizza with eggs and bacon pieces baked on top. The eggs were nice and the yolks were a little runny, the back was crispy and worked well. Definitely a "breakfast style" pizza. Since we were a larger group, our food took a little while to make because we all ordered pizzas, but the service was great. The mimosas were plenty and one person in our party who wasn't drinking got a very pretty mocktail from the bar. The atmosphere wasn't too busy or crowded and works well for our group. Overall, a good experience. My friend and I came here on a recent busy Saturday night and amazingly were able to get a table for two without a reservation without a wait. A huge shoutout to the host who went above and beyond trying to find us seats, even asking the bartender to tell people to move down a seat so we could sit together. The ambiance goes for an upscale, classy vibe, with dozens of higher-end liquor bottles, soft lighting, white tablecloths, and wood. However, it was extremely loud and I had to significantly raise my voice in order for my friend to hear me. My friend and I ordered and shared the margherita rivisitata pizza, which is only one of two vegetarian pizza on the menu that I saw (there are three vegan options). Note that the menu available online does not reflect the current menu. The pizza itself was good but could have been better. The crust was excellent and there was a good cheese-sauce ratio. However, the sauce could have been more flavorful, the cheese had not completely melted, and the basil was inadequate. Despite the busy restaurant, my friend and I received quality, friendly service, including being able to place and receive our order in a timely manner. Very good pizza, decent dessert, nice service, so-so ambiance. We had a shrimp pesto and fungi al tartufo between us. The balsamic glaze on the pizza was an excellent sweet touch to counter the salty cheese and rich mushrooms - really appreciated the pizza. The shrimp pesto pasta was good and surprisingly filling. We went for zeppole ripiene and tiramisu for dessert. Could've used more nutella spread on the zeppole (was craving them to be filled with it, but just dough over a nutella layer). The tiramisu was legit - nice expresso taste and decent amount of mascarpone. Seating inside is very packed so you might even touch elbows with the table next to you but I think that's the whole point of Lupo. The cozy, family-like ambience makes for a perfect date night! Service was very familial, it seemed like the older lady was the manager/my aunt lol. She was so personable and was quick to take care of our order/needs. The pizzas were great! two pizzas were more than filling for two people who can really REALLY eat. I visited here on 1/2/2022 by the recommendation of a friend who lives local. This was supposed to be my last night visiting DC but the snow on 1/3/2022 added another night to my trip, lol. My son and I arrived at 9:45pm. Max, who is one of the owners, was waiter. He attentive and helpful. Initially, the menu was confusing becauseI had no idea what the main words were as they were in Italian. Max explained what the words meant, and it was a huge help. My son wanted cheese pizza. I had Max go ahead and put it in while I was still deciding. Max said it would be a 10-11 inch pizza. In my mind, I thought it would be personal size but it was pretty big, similar to a medium sized pizza at chain pizza places. I was initially glad that I didn't order one for myself because I thought my kid wasn't gonna eat the whole thing... but he did. Smh. I had one slice and it was good. My friend ended up coming and joining for a little bit. We both had a drink. I got the Espresso Lupotini and it was delicious. For food, I built my own pizza and got pepperoni and ham. I also got the meatballs as an app. My pizza was $23 That was probably the most I ever paid for a pizza. The toppings were $3 a piece. I also got meatball as an appetizer. I had told Max way earlier I wanted to get it but I think some miscommunication had occurred. Around 10:25pm, my food and appetizer meatball arrived. I will say that I thought it would be a few regular sized meatballs but it was one large one. The presentation was great and came with 2 pieces of garlic bread. It was delicious. While my pizza was hot and tasty, the presentation wasn't the best. The crust has several burnt markings and the toppings appeared to be placed randomly and carefree as one side of my pizza has more pepperonis than the other. Also, it appeared as if they forgot about the ham and just stuck on top at the end. Similarly to the pepperoni, one side of my pizza had significantly more ham than the other. My son had finished his food well before I got mine and he fell asleep at the table. I got full and took half my pizza and half my meatball to go, which I ate the following day for lunch. The establishment has 5 tables for parties of 4 along wall to the left; 4 tables for parties of 2 in middle, and 2 tables for parties of 2 along the window at the entrance. This is where my son chose to sit. There was many 1-2 other parties present when he arrived. If all the tables were full, I think the dining area would be pretty cramped. I noticed a couple struggling to move a double scroller down the aisle. My friend, who actually works at another restaurant the owners owns, told me there is a downstairs area that they are renovating. I would be interested to see what it looks like. The establishment also has a full length bar area for sitting and an array of liquor. They were out of crown, which is what my friend wanted. Overall, the staff was friendly. Besides the owner, it was just a lady working the bar area. She actually boxed my pizza and put it in a to-go box. She was really nice and helpful. I would recommend this place. read more

The first time I went to Lupo Pizzeria was after a rock concert in DC. I was hanging out with my guys and they wanted to get Dominos. I refused and google helped me in finding Lupo Pizzeria. It was an instant hit from the very first slice. Easily one of the best Pizza I have ever had anywhere which explains why this place is always busy. Last night was my 7th visit to this place and it was a first date that obviously I was trying to impress with food. Usually my first dates are at a coffee shop but this one was after a while of talking. Went with a bottle of Barolo. For appetizers my favorite stuffed risotto balls. From the very first bite you can tell that this place knows how to treat food. Ordered La Diavola which is one of my favorites and it is the perfect level of salt and spice. The perfect slight burnt crust with a crisp. Nothing can go wrong with this place it is just so perfect. My night was already special but Lupo Pizzeria staff went above and beyond with the complimentary dessert which was a great surprise and surely impressed my date as well. I never expect restaurants to do this and do not feel entitled enough to receive anything on the house but this was one of the nicest gestures anyone has ever done. So, many thanks to Lupo Pizzeria for this wonderful gesture, the outstanding service and the delightful food. 5 stars and much more. read more

Wanted to give this place a try being that it is new. The pizza crust was good but I don't think It would be on my list of places to go back to. I got the margarita pizza which was good but could have used more cheese. My husband got some kind of seafood pizza which he said had a really off taste and didn't end up eating it. The service and staff was great but the ambience was off to me. It was definitely a pizza restaurant that's also trying to be a bar. Was really liking forward to Lupo as part of a final night in DC. Unfortunately poor, inattentive and at times absent service combined with an underwhelming pizza left quite a bit to be desired. I sat at the bar upon arrival and after a couple of minutes,instead of being greeted & offered a menu I was asked what I wanted. I was given a menu, but that is where the service stopped. No " this is great" " " have you been in before ?" Or anything beyond a menu being slid towards me followed by the bartender going to another guest. Nor did a get water. I ordered my pizza, which was sadly overburdened with cheese, and leaned greasy... the individual quality of the ingredients was totally acceptable (soprasatta, Calabrian chilis, etc) and yes I am aware that the pizza is finished with Calabrian chili oil. I can accept a mediocre pizza, at times it's all I want... the comfort of something fine but not great is certainly not lost on me. But I did not particularly love the pizza, and the service was the worst I've had in my 1 week visit to DC. One disappointing thing to note is that any attractive women who sat at the bar and in particular a young apparent former staff member who came to visit got nothing but attentive service, and warmth. I personally spent 17 years working in the service industry, and I loved my regulars as well as my former colleagues. My regulars absolutely got the best service, but every guest weather at my bar or at my table got proper service regardless of if it was their first or 500th time visiting and it was disappointing to not even get that basic level of hospitality at a restaurant that I was looking forward to visiting. read more

It was hot and fresh, and the crust was honestly some of the best crust I've ever had. I'm a huge crust person, it was light and chewy and the scorch marks gave it a great taste. Drinks were great and strong. The service was a bit slow in the beginning but we didn't mind since we weren't in a rush and just talking the menu over. My friend ordered a beer they were out of and instead of expecting my friend to have a 2nd option ready he suggested something similar.
