In December 2022, I came to the salon based off a recommendation. This review took so long because this was a painful process and I'm in a better place to discuss it. The environment was professional, clean and provided that luxurious feel usually Manhattan salons provide. I was greeted by the only person in the salon, Shamilka. She was very attentive and we quickly got into conversation about our shared identities of the Black Diaspora. She asked me why I came here and I told her I was told they worked well with natural hair and this was my first silk press in over 4 years. I'd been natural for 5 years. She agreed that it was important for proper upkeep as she was Dominican and knew how these salons poured chemicals or used excessive heat. She did a steam treatment putting various liquids in my hair. I didn't smell anything suspicious and of course because of everything she just said I began to trust her. We did a protein treatment before she blew my hair out. After she took the flatiron and I noticed her doing multiple passes especially at the top, before at the end going in with a hot comb. I've never flat-ironed my hair myself, but I do at least blow dry my hair really well monthly for protective styling. I felt as though the constant passes were too much because of the common phrase "one pass is enough", but she was the professional and seemed to know what she was doing. I loved my hair. The trim was well done and the silk press kept up. After 2 weeks I noticed my hair hadn't frizzed up, and I was like wow Shamilka did a bomb job. Obviously, too good of a job. 3 weeks later Jan 7, I washed my hair but my hair wasn't reverting and was shedding horribly. I didn't panic I knew it took a couple of washes. Tried various treatments before calling the salon for help. Ashema answered asking for photos (screenshots attached). She audibly gasped and told me that whoever did my hair did it incorrectly and my hair look damaged. She told me if I had already tried Aphogee then it was irreversible. She gave the manager Marlin and assistant manager Angela my number. Angela called me hours later and I could tell this was a white woman as she explained her hair texture wasn't the same and she wasn't experienced on it. She said she trusted Ashema's judgement and asked multiple times if I had done a touch up at home with a flatiron, which I denied. I knew better than that. She said she would push this up to Marlin. Marlin called me on Sunday evening frustrated as though I was bothering him. He sounded Caribbean and his customer service was extremely poor. I told him I need full compensation and would like the salon to give me a 2/3 protein treatments to try to repair as much as possible while my hair grew out. He said he can't lose money over this and the salon can't afford that. He would give me partial refund. I told him that's unacceptable as a black women who has spent thousands of dollars in treatments & hair products for this to happen. I was only requesting for the issue to be rectified & wasn't threatening a suit. He kept saying there had been a case the month prior and so maybe there was a malfunction with the hot tools and that the Spanish lady who this occurred to was happy to settle with 2 protein treatments. Aside from the disgusting attitude of the boss, it's telling of how they deal with issues. As a business owner myself, I understand that you can have small and major issues. It's how you respond and rectify it. I never received any apology which would have gone a long way. In the end, I got my full refund. I went three months later after covering my hair in wigs. My hair was still shedding with consistent protein treatments and flaking. The stylist I went to told my scalp look as tho a treatment as been left on. She neutralized my scalp and cut my hair. I've had healthy hair since. I hope Shamilka never does this to anyone again and that she was retrained on proper silk press procedure.

We spent about 5 hours here on this trip, but I definitely could have stayed longer. There is a parking lot a block or two down the street, as a treat parking is limited. I was really excited to visit King Spa in Palisades Park while I was in the tri-state area. I had…read morebeen to the King Spa in Niles, IL several times and absolutely loved it, so I was expecting a similar relaxing experience. Unfortunately, I left feeling completely disappointed and more stressed than relaxed. I went on a Monday morning hoping to avoid crowds and have a peaceful day. Things started off on the wrong foot almost immediately. While I was simply checking the size of the uniform, holding it up to see if there was a difference in the width, an employee came over and snatched the second pair out of my hand as if I was trying to take something I shouldn't have. It was not a great way to start when I had barely gotten in the door. Next, the layout was also really confusing. The spa is spread across multiple floors with different sections and stairways, but no one explained where anything was or how to navigate the space. I spent a lot of time in the morning trying to figure out where I was and it felt like I was nosing around someone else's house: uncomfortable. The biggest issue, though, was communication. A woman in the locker room offered my niece and me a deal for two massages for $140 ($70 each) and asked me to send the money through Zelle. I sent $170, including what I thought was a generous tip of over 20%. She arranged the appointment, but I didn't confirm what type of massage I wanted. I foolishly assumed they would ask before starting. We had lunch beforehand - the food was delicious and the portion was huge. Unfortunately, they don't offer to-go boxes, so I needed to reschedule our massages in order to finish my meal. Before even finishing my meal, I went to the massage counter to see if we reschedule our appointments. A younger patron helped translate at the massage desk, but she needed my time slot and took it for herself. She told me the woman would help me reschedule and then left. When I tried to figure out my new time, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. I was given time without being asked if it worked for me, and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none. I would have cancelled but had already paid, so I took the L. When it was finally time for the massage, we were taken back without anyone asking what type of massage we wanted. I realized my mistake because it was a much more intense massage style and is not my preference. At that point though, after so many rushed and uncomfortable interactions, I honestly didn't feel comfortable advocating for myself to tell them I wanted reflexology. The final issue happened while I was changing before leaving. The same woman who arranged the massage came over and told me I hadn't paid enough tip. I was confused because... it was a tip. She told me I owed another $20 and (to add insult to injury) that I couldn't get my license back from the front desk until I paid. That brought the tip to over 35% on a service I didn't choose and didn't enjoy. I came to King Spa looking for rest and relaxation, but instead left feeling like I had spent my hard-earned money somewhere that never quite felt comfortable and certainly not welcomed.

I've only tried the float therapy here so far. The float rooms are located in the bottom floor down this very steep staircase, but inside it is nearly completely soundproof (or as soundproof as one can get in the middle of Midtown...). The experience is very relaxing, as you get a huge private room to shower and then float in. The tubs are also really big so you don't feel claustrophobic. I appreciate the amenities as well, like lotion and little packets of Vaseline to cover up cuts. You get plenty of time to shower before and after your appointment so you do not feel rushed at all. Staff is very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. They do not try to upsell you on stuff and kind of just leave you to do your own thing, which I really appreciate.

There are two private sauna rooms, both are large and fully stocked with towels, a robe, cold water, eucalyptus infused face towels and wipes. I prefer sauna room 1 because it has a private shower. The sessions are easily booked on their website (they are open 4 days a week). I also love how central their location is, they are located two blocks from Grand Central Station/Bryant Park. I've been eyeing their list of treatments online, and I am really looking forward to trying their salt room and floating chamber. I highly recommend the Chill Space!

It was impossible to relax in any of the pools available because there were children jumping and screaming and climbing and splashing water all over everyone. The only lifeguard on duty during the afternoon was on his phone giggling THE WHOLE TIME, even when kids were diving in a pool literally 2 feet deep. What I also did not expect was having to wait 40 minutes in line for a drink. There was only one person doing the drink, and then another one coming back and forth from what I found out to be the kitchen upstairs. Counting the people INSIDE the kitchen, cooking, there were a total of 5 people doing food and drinks during a fully booked day at lunch time. Also wasn't prepared to spend $26 + gratuity + tax for a drink (they automatically charge gratuity and then ask if you want to leave a tip lol) ON THE BRIGHT SIDE the place was clean and well kept, even the bathrooms were perfectly clean. Yes, a few hair here and there, but it was expected. The saunas were good and they had a good variety. I don't know if I'll come back during a weekend or festivity, $110pp seems a lot to not being able to relax.

They provide a bathrobe, a hand towel, and slippers. No outside flip flops allowed. When you are ready to shower, you can ask for larger shower towels. - Large, spacious, and clean facility with Greek-esque blue and white architectural details. We enjoyed the open layout with the different heated pools, the vast array of strong jets, and the hot tubs. All the jet buttons worked, and the jets turned on right away. We loved the large Himalayan Salt sauna, which was also the hottest. Overall it wasn't crowded at all! - My daughter loved the outdoor pool with the overhead waterfall, the indoor pool right by the bar, the playhouses in the relaxation area, and the kids' playroom. - The hydrotherapy pools, cold baths, and steam room in the changing areas/locker rooms were clean and well-maintained. - The Korean food is delicious! The Korean Beef Stew was some of the best we've had in a while. - Kids allowed (all ages accepted!), and my daughter had a blast! Cons: - Some of the rooms, such as the relaxation room at the top, could use an upgrade. - The co-ed outdoor dry sauna needs to be much hotter. Wish they had a co-ed steamroom like at AIRE Ancient Baths. - Some of the shower heads in the sitting shower area were weak and needed fixing. - The foosball table for kids was missing the ball, and needed extras around. - $13 ramen was the 85-cent Paldo Gomtang Korean Beef Flavored Instant Noodle Soup you can get at H-Mart. Note: - Take advantage of the 30% off admission special offers on https://shop.nyspacastle.com/newyork/index.php. $59.50 for adults M-T and $77 for adults F-Sunday. You cannot redeem and use it within 24 hours! "Any earlier attempt to redeem is invalid. If you plan to visit the facility within 24 hours, please make your purchase in-store." So much fun, can't wait to come back with a large group!
