We left the restaurant with our tummies happy and our hearts feeling full. The staff was friendly despite how busy they were. Our order: 2 hot tea (yum) -Stoplight Yellowtail was just so light and delicious - Smashed Cucumber This went with the entire meal. It was a nice refresher between bites. -2 orders of the Feed Me All Raw (3 Plates) Started off with a subtly sweet and refreshing Bluefin Tuna with goat cheese, and a few others I cannot remember. Second was the Scottish Salmon, this was so good. The salmon melts in your mouth. This dish made me chew slowly to really enjoy every motion of my jaw opening and closing. Lastly, the Gulf Grouper. This had to be planned, because this dish sat in a sauce that was completely refreshing on the palette. And of course, there's a second stomach for dessert. We had a great meal at LUVI while visiting New Orleans. It was a much welcomed break from the local, Cajun cuisine. All of the items were fresh and delicious. I absolutely love Luvi, it's my favorite restauran. However: they have switched to an online reservation app called Resy. The app requires your payment info to book, which I understand, no one wants a cancellation, especially somewhere as small as Luv. But when I went to pay for my birthday meal after eating, my card had been shut off, and we had to scramble for cash. Truns out, Resy had tried to bill me for $526 and my bank had flagged it as fraud (rightly so). I deal with that, email the restaurant to let them know, and go about my life. Well today, two and a half weeks later, my card is shut off again because Resy decides to charge my card over $800 out of the blue. This has been a nightmar. read more

My husband and I had a dinner with friends planned, and lucky for us they chose Luvi after having eaten there once before. We had a reservation, and thank goodness we did, because this super hip, adorable space is small and very popular. We were seated as soon as we arrived and greeted by our amazing server, Noah. Our friends explained what turned out to be a great dining strategy and we went with it. We ordered one feed me per couple and then several small plates to share. The feed me raw selections were all light and flavorful. I've never had flounder sashimi before and was blown away. Other dishes we ordered: Dan Dan noodles - not to be missed Curried dumplings - my favorite menu item Crispy spring roll - delicious Smashed cucumbers - loved them Chicken wings - get some Tuna meatballs - my only regret of this meal I can't neglect to mention the Shinobu sidecar. I dined here last night for a birthday dinner and first and foremost, have to commend them for being extremely accommodating. We had questions about the recent Covid/vaccine restrictions and they don't open until 5 PM, but they were very quick and responsive when I messaged them on Instagram. I highly recommend reservations ahead of time because it's a small restaurant and they were very busy all night. I feel like we ordered the majority of the menu. My group's favorites from the raw bar were the Stoplight (yellowtail with jalapeño) and Monkey Snack (salmon wrapped around banana). We tried one "Feed Me" to start which were three raw dishes of the Chef's choice, but we all actually preferred the a la carte raw bar dishes and felt that the portion sizes were better for sharing. The cooked dishes we really liked were the curry dumplings, chicken wings and Dan Dan noodles. I would re-order all of these. The bam bam chicken and hamachi kama were also both good but too similar to what can be found at most Japanese restaurants, so keep that in mind if you're looking for more atypical dishes with different flavors. The dish that missed the mark for us was the Mala Holla, but to each his/her own. It just didn't stand out to me the way some of their other menu items did. The price was very fair considering we had a couple rounds of drinks. It looks like they update their menu occasionally and I'd happily dine here again to try other plates. read more

Restaurant is a house that has been redesigned to accommodate a restaurant in an up-and-coming area of NOLA. A small seating areas with an open kitchen concept. A bit awkward when walking in and no-one greats you. Small place with great food. The " Feed me" experience was worth the 50 per person. All three dishes offer layers of flavor / textures / visuals. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The white fish, don't remember the name, was my personal favorite with refined notes of umami, saltiness, a slight bitterness and just a tiny bit of sweetness, a must in my opinion. FRESH. And brilliant. Are the words to describe this experience. I never knew fruit and sushi would pair together so well! Hubby and I ordered the "Feed Me - all raw" omakase (6 courses $70) and each course shocked my taste buds. I don't recall all the specific names but please feast your eyes on these photos. Drool. Each dish was creative and beautifully plated and by the end we were definitely full. We also ordered the Curried flavor dumplings which I expected to feel heavy but was surprisingly very light and delicious as well. Based on Yelp photos the menu and omakase items change every so often so you may not get the exact same dishes as these photos. But trust this chef! We walked in and was taken in without reservations. The workers had a chat and decided it was okay to take us in. I've heard and seen great things about luvi and wanted to give this place a try. My server nick was very knowledgeable and thorough, but the service felt rushed. I'd imagine it was he was getting ready for the incoming reservations. One of of the requests was a side of the ghost pepper chili oil on the side. I wanted to taste it with my meal. Upon receiving our order, I did not see anything that resembled ghost pepper chili oil. I flagged down nick as he was walking by attending the other guests and reminded him of my request. He strongly gestured with his finger 1 inch away from the sweet thai chili sauce and said THAT was it. With how confident he was, I could not bare to engage and correct his coarse demeanor. We eventually finished the meal never correcting nick. I left him a 20% tip, but deserved 10%. I can't imagine the hardworking owner would allow someone to be so belittling toward his customers. read more

A local friend suggested LUVI and it did not disappoint. Best meal I've had in a long while! I feel like we ordered the majority of the menu. We tried all three sushi dishes. They were all amazing but the seared tuna absolutely rocked my world. I really don't know what "smoked soy sauce" is but it is divine and I wanted to lick it off the plate. I also really loved the crawfish wantons and the smashed cucumbers. Our server was incredibly patient with us and our indecision about ordering. It really should be a 3.5 star spot. The food was very good. I wasn't overwhelmed with any one dish, however. It was all very good. But not particularly memorable. What was memorable was the noise level. Sound control panels on the ceiling would make all the difference. It was a cold December evening when I stopped in; the restaurant was bustling as I settled into my table and looked over the menu. I started with an order of the "Shanghai Spring Rolls," fried pork and cabbage roll in a tasty, crispy wrap. The pork was tender and savory; it made for a perfect start. I opted next for the "Monkey Snack." This is salmon wrapped around a sesame-seed crusted banana with a sweet, spicy sauce. Chef was right--this was an interesting combination that worked surprisingly well. The fruit balanced nicely with the fish, and the spicy sauce was a nice touch that brought all the flavors together. Finally, to warm my bones I opted for the "Spicy Dan Dan Noodles." This is a large bowl of chicken and black bean and homemade chili sauces and it really hit the spot! The noodles are on the thicker side, so they do a good job of soaking up the yummy broth. Speaking of the broth, it already has a nice kick to it, but I liked that they brought a little extra chili sauce on the side, just in case you want to bring it to the next level. If you get this dish, be sure to stir it all well and let those ingredients really combine for the full flavor experience. If your tastes lean more toward the vegan side, Luvi's menu includes "Pan Fried Vegan Lover Dumplings" with bok choy, mushroom and green bean noodles, "Spicy Stir Fried Bean Curd" with jalapeno, red onion and black bean chili, and "Stir Fried Napa Cabbage" with ginger and garlic. I wasn't expecting to find Asian fusion in New Orleans. So much of the food here can sway itself to local favs, but this was such a dope find. Luvi knows what's up with dumplings! Oh my god the curried dumplings were excellent. From the filling to the broth, you won't go wrong with any of it. The beef mala halla is a flavor wonderland. Gimme that peanut sauce any damn day. Then you gotta have that Monkey Snack sushi starter. It's uniqueAF but worth every freaking bite and probably should have gone back and ordered a second one as it was such a noteworthy menu item. Ive been wanting to go to this spot for awhile so i'm happy I finally made it. Let me start with the food - everything tasted super fresh. The vegan lover dumplings were AMAZING. Freshest dumplings I've ever tasted & perfectly crisp on the outside. Everything had great flavor. The Bam Bam Chicken was also really great. Downside - the atmosphere of this place was... weird. We felt a bit unwelcomed when first arriving - they could have just been busy so that's fine. The service was not great either, but things came out pretty timely. What I really disliked - this place is NOT handicap accessible. We sat on the porch so overheard another customer ask if they had a ramp & another server said they did not. There are 4-5 stairs leading up to the front door so something to keep in mind if you are disabled or if stairs are a struggle for you. Overall good dining experience. Service and ambience very good. The raw bar starters were all pretty tasty. We tried the top 4 on the menus and the special tuna with yuzu. The Million Dollar Baby and the stoplight was probably my favorite of them all and the Monkey Snack was interesting. The banana was interesting and somehow seemed to work. The Lion's Head broth was tasty. And I quite liked the Dark Forest. Reminded me of Shanghainese flavors. For the medium plates we got the Dan Dan noodles which was good. This was not merely a meal, it was an incredible culinary experience. I came with another person, and we got the raw feed me + black bean curd + curry dumplings. It was more than enough food, and while I was impressed with both of the hot plates, nothing could have prepared me for the raw feed me. It was beautiful, wonderful, delicious! I was so excited to try Luvi for the first time. It was good, but not great. We did not get any raw food, so I'm not sure if that was parry of it. My husband and I shared the: Malla holla, Crispy bam bam chicken, mama's dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and spring rolls. The malla holla was so good- super flavorful with a lot of good textures. Cool date night spot! My BF and I ducked into LUVI on a random Tuesday night and were seated right away (without a reservation) at the sushi counter. We sat right in front of the sushi chefs, which was really fun! We got the crawfish wontons, chef special sushi, cold beef medium plate, curry dumplings, and Dan Dan noodles. Stand out stars were the cold beef medium plate, curry dumplings, and Dan Dan noodles. I got invited to try their new menu tasting and I am not gonna lie, THANK YOU for establishing LUVI! This place is not close to CBD, French Quarter or Metairie so you definitely have to plan accordingly, meaning if you are going to drive up here, make sure to control your alcohol intake because they had so many yummy cocktails! It actually has been a while so I cannot remember the name of dishes I got to try but everything was amaze-ball. Favorite dish for your Asian girl was mamas dumpling if I am not mistaken. I really need to come back here for their raw bar as it looked awesome. The chef Hao was very friendly and our bartender was very talkative too! Keep in mind that this restaurant is tiny. I do not recommend a group of more than 4 people maximum to come here without reservation. To be honest, best would be for 2 people.
