Came here for the first time on 9/8/2024 with a family member. It was quite busy when we walked in and this was right around 12:30 ish. We didn't schedule an appointment either. We kinda stood there awkwardly because no one had greeted us until one of the manicurist who was in the middle of doing a manicure for a client finally acknowledged us and got up to let us know it would be a 30-45 minutes wait so we decided to grab lunch first and come back in an hour. We came back after an hour and they led us to the chairs. The two ladies that did our pedicures were very nice and accommodating with my family member because she had wanted a certain color on her finger nails but they didn't have that color so they ask if she wanted to choose another color and my family member did but wasn't so sure of the color so she asked if the lady can paint it on one of her nails to see how it looks. They were more than happy to do it. As for me, I do like getting pedicures but I am very ticklish so the poor lady that was doing my pedicure had to put up with me and she laughed when I kept apologizing and telling her I am the worst! The both of us wanted to try the powder dip and it was our first time trying it out and we were kinda skeptical about it but were pleasantly surprised with the end results. It came out really nice and we were satisfied but the only thing that I was uncomfortable with was when the lady that did my manicure, she used the electric filer or buffer and it was kinda painful when she got near my cuticles and whenever I got manicures it was always manually filed and buffer so I didn't expect that. Also, at one point the lady pushed so hard under my nail bed with her finger nail it was painful in between dipping into the powder. That was my only complaint but overall experience was positive and it was very clean and the price was not too bad. Would come back when I'm in the area. read more

This posting is about 1 technician and my experience today at Lux Nails, not overall. Lilly Tran does not listen to your requests. I bring my own Olive & June nail polish in because it's the only polish that works on my nails. I've always had a hard time with my nails drying. So I explicitly explained that I only wanted 2 coats because the nail polish is long lasting. What did Lilly do? Put 4 coats on most of my toenails and then asked if I wanted top coat. No, I don't want top coat now because you put 2 more coats than what I asked for. I know my nails. They've been on my feet my entire life. My nails will now smudge because there's too much polish on them and will look bad. Other technicians at Lux Nails are much better. read more

I got a dip manicure by Olivia. I love how it came out. I'm someone who always has a difficult time picking colors but Olivia was so patient with me and helped me decide what to get done. It was $54 for a dip manicure but I did get chrome ($15) and three tips as I had a few broken nails ($2/tip). Before tip my total came out to $75 which I consider really good especially for SF. The only minor negative part was when filing down my nail, I got a little cut but not bad enough to make it an issue. The shop was clean and made for a relaxing time. Went there today for a gel pedicure and ended up also getting a regular manicure as well. I paid around $73 not including the tip for both services. And it was totally worth it. They exfoliated and rubbed my feet with warm rocks. The place was pretty clean and relaxing. I wish they choose better music to go with the vibe of the place but that's irrelevant. The women there were all super nice and pleasant to be around. They weren't too busy but I do recommend calling before you get there just to be sure there will be someone available for you as soon as you get there but they do take walk-in's. They are a bit expensive on a college student budget but the experience is lovely so I do heavily recommend it. I never really get manicures but I adore my nails today and I will probably start going there regularly now because of it. I always have problems with my feet because of these kind of salons so if anything arises I'll check back in, those problems are usually an indication that the salons tools aren't as sanitary but from what I could tell at face value everything looked pretty clean. Actually surprised by the super affordable prices here with it being in such a good location and nearby in the neighborhood :) Prices are not cheap ever since COVID but this place kept their price points super reasonable. The ladies here are soo friendly, fluent in English so I was able to communicate my vision to them and they literally stood in front of the colors and selected all the colors that might've fit my vision ($22). I didn't have to lift a finger. The mani took less than 20 minutes, they were swift, sanitary, and had the utmost precision with their care. I loved it. I'm lowkey a germa-phobe so all for the cleanliness in this space too! The interior was high ceiling, spotless floor, clean seating and made myself comfortable in the spacious air, didn't feel like I was breathing in a bunch of toxins so we love that :) Coming back here very soon! Whatever you do, don't get a gift certificate at Lux nails. I got a gel mani pedi gift certificate for my friend who goes there all the time. The woman filling out the form seemed to be confused, because it took 20 minutes for me to leave with the certificate. Fast forward 5 months my friend tries to use the certificate. The owner Be says the certificate isn't valid because it wasn't filled in properly, or something like that. My friend told me, so visit the shop because I assume it was just a misunderstanding. No. I explained to Be that her employee filled it out incorrectly, and showed her the certificate and envelope with her logo on it. She said she is the only one who can do certificates, she doesn't remember this one, and then had the nerve to suggest I had forged the certificate. I showed her my bank account from the day, showing the exact amount of the certificate was charged to my account. She said I probably got my nails done that day. So I wasted $93 and got nothing, no apology, and certainly no refund or new certificate. I am a hard person to really upset and I only like writing reviews to support local businesses, but this was too much. read more

I just can't... time to update my review since MANY people gave positive feedback about my review for this business last month. I am a great client. I make appointments, I tip well, I am respectful of their time - I paid for an appointment that I accidentally missed. I take very good care of people that take care of me. They do not appreciate ongoing clients. There is a mad dash for walk-ins and to capture in the moment. It is extremely difficult to make appointments with this business. I am willing to come in whenever they have an opening. I ask for them to tell me a time and they come back with, "what time do you want to Come in?" I tell them what time I want to come in and they tell me they can't do it then. Then I tell them again, just tell me what time you have an opening... I'd be happy to come back then. And they continue to repeat... what time do you want to Come in?" It just goes in circles. I would be happy to come in. Just give me a time. Their lack of understanding of English and attempting to communicate in a professional way is tough. I am extremely understanding - but they are just impossible to communicate in a healthy way. They called my phone to check on an appointment fir someone else, when I answered the phone they just hung up. I called back the number, having no idea that it was their business... And they kept hanging up on me... I finally realized that it was this business calling and hanging up on me and they said oh we made a mistake. Completely unprofessional to keep calling and hanging up on me. They should've just said that they had the wrong number... The really good quality manicurists aren't working there anymore. I just wanna be able to have my nails done regularly, by the same people, in peace without any drama. I don't wanna be held hostage in a chair and feel frustrated... Making appointments and communication is the tough part- if you're just walking in and you don't care and it's a one off... I'd say go for it if you're looking for a quality business that wants a lasting professional relationship and takes good care of their clients... I would walk on by... I had made an appointment for 5pm, had my feet put in water at 5, but then no one came to actually do my nails until 5:40. They were very attentive to detail and used hot stone massage which was nice, however my nails were cut and filed down a lot and are tender as a result. I used to love this place - pricier than nearby salons but much better work. Until recently. The last 3 times I have been there my nails always look a little weird - slightly crooked filing, nail polish on the skin, not painting to the edges of the nail (even with 5-6 asks), so much glopped on top coat (I could tell it was old and thick) that it's making the nail polish look warped. These issues were visible before I have even paid - they offered to redo it but I had already been in there 2 hours and have a day chocked full of to dos and a weekend full of events. I'm scared to see what it will look like once the paint fully dries. Hooray for a $68 mani/pedi that looks worse than if I had done it myself. Super bummed. read more

Hit or miss. I've been 4 times now, always for mani/pedis and sometimes gel mani. Service is inconsistent depending on who you get. I've had mostly good to great experiences, thorough and attentive technicians who check in to make sure you like the shape, color, length or your nails. Their color selection is great, it's clean, comfortable. The last time, I had a technician that insisted on filing my nails for approximately 15 minutes to the point of physical discomfort even though I asked her 3 times just to cut them then file. I had to ask multiple times for a round shape and she kept doing square and I walked out with a somewhat messy looking gel mani that I was not happy with. I'm going to go back again but I recommend they do some additional training for their staff. Some of their staff are not up to standards of other spots in SF. Small suggestion; there is a very repetitive video playing of flowers and scenes. Maybe switch it up to a fun show or movie or keep the scenes but don't have them repeat every 1 minute. read more

They did a great and careful job of removing the old gel polish, filing, and shaping my nails. They were very gentle so as to minimize the damage to my real nail. Their tools are all individually wrapped so it's very sanitary. I was offered water or hot tea, plus a warm neck pillow and hand massage along with the manicure. Ask for a stamp card; each $30 spent gets you a stamp and 10 stamps gets you $30 off. They also offer facials, waxing, and eyelash extensions. Although they don't offer acrylics, the also do dip powder. read more

If you look at my past reviews on nails... majority of my reviews are rave reviews. I have gone all around the city and then outside of the city in attempt to find the right nail tech for myself. I work as a care giver for a child with special needs. This not only includes a lot of rough work with my hands but also I wash a lot dishes. This has resulted in my nails never lasting more than a week. Acrylics and dip powder will always fall off quickly (even with amazing nail techs) and gel chips quicker than it should for me. I am absolutely amazed with Be's work. She not just a nail tech, she is an artist. She is so detailed and diligent with her work. She does not rush or make you feel rushed in anyway. A lot of times nail techs want you in and out so they can make more money. I TOTALLY understand this but as a customer, I have paid the price when the job is rushed. The prices here are on the higher end however, worth every penny. You get what you pay for!! Both my photos are dip powder with nail extensions. They have both lasted me exactly 2 weeks. And it's usually only one that pops off (due to some kind of roughness in my job) and by then, they are grown out enough that it's not worth just getting the one nail replaced. If you don't have a job where you don't have to use your hands in a rough manner, these will EASILY last you 3 weeks.
