Poor communication and the nail tech who serviced me was lacking skills to the point where I almost couldn't believe it. Today I walked in for the first time to this salon. I asked if they could remove my hard gel manicure and give me a new hard gel manicure. They said yes. I sat down and said, "I'm so glad that you do hard gel manicures here, because I just moved to the neighborhood." The nail tech smiled and said "yes, but you shouldn't get hard gel too frequently because it wears down your nails." I agreed, and she started drilling down my nails to remove the previous manicure. She drilled so hard that I had to jerk my hand back four times from the heat. Then, she started soaking my nails in acetone and scraping them with a cuticle scraper and a nail buffer. This was strange to me, because it's an extremely ineffective way to remove hard gel. She continued this process for, I kid you not, two hours. Just slowly and ineffectively buffing off the hard gel. At other salons this usually takes about 30-40 minutes. Finally, she started shaping my nails. It was genuinely as if she had never held a nail file in her life. She barely grazed my nails and worked painfully slowly. When she was done I looked down and about 6 of my nails were completely misshapen. The point of my almond nails were left of center and they looked completely askew. I actually couldn't believe she thought that they were ok to show me. I asked her to please fix them and she did. Finally she asked me to pick a color. I started looking through the gel colors and she told me "no those are gel, look at the regular colors." Confused, I replied, "but I'm not getting a regular manicure." She looked extremely puzzled, then said "ok, you do regular gel manicure." Again, confused, I said "No, I want a hard gel manicure, like I said in the beginning." This is how I learned that they do not offer hard gel manicures at the salon. So I wasted close to three hours of my time, and ended up paying them $20 for the awful removal. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. read more

I hate to leave this review but this place will leave your nails damaged. I got a simple gel and it began peeling off in less than 3 days. Even worse, the tech assigned to my chair used the electric drill to shave through each nail instead of soaking the previous gel off at all or filing manually, as requested. I should have stopped the service but I trusted her. She used that machine way harsher than necessary and was extremely aggressive while distracted looking at other things, chipping my long nails and leaving my thick healthy nails brittle and thin. Made an app for a gel manicure and eyebrow wax. Wax was done quick and attention to detail before my gel manicure. Nail clean up was good but polish already came off on one of the nails,lasted 4 days. The nail technician painted my nails 2 different ways. Also polish is a little thick. I needed a mani-pedi, so I yelped a few nail salons in my area. With so many nail salons in the Sunset, I got confused and walked into the wrong one. I definitely paid the consequences for my error. I mostly like to get my nails done to get my cuticles cleaned, but they did a half-ass job. I think more damage was done the way they scraped their tools down the length of my nails. I spent the majority of my time though watching them fix their mistakes. They would paint my nails and a considerable amount of skin surrounding them, thus having to go back with a cotton swab to wipe off the excess. This method would've been fine with me as long as they were able to wipe off all of the polish from my skin. That wasn't the case. The lady working on my feet was the worst. As she painted my toenails, her fingers would brush against the toenail she just finished painting, smearing the fresh polish... WOW. It was frustrating just watching her. It boggles me when I come across such a High-Volume Busy Nail Salon and then look them up on Yelp only to find rather disappointing reviews & then no photos of their work. High Touch Nails is great at losing Customers. Yes, they are busy. The large Salon is deceiving. I popped in wanting a Pedicure & no one approached me. I even waived my Coupon! I had to interrupt one of the Ladies & asked if I ought to put my name on a list or somethink. She said something along the lines of 'No-We-Viry-Bisy- come back in hour' Her response was rude, unfriendly uninviting. On my check-in Tip I wrote: 'Its hard coming in as a new Customer - they arent very friendly or attentive when busy. It Would be a good idea for someone to be at the Front Desk cos this looks like a High Volume Salon... heading down now to Sunset Nails for a Pedicure...' I feel they ought to have someone running things at the Front Desk, and keeping track and monitoring things. This is a big Salon that doesn't appear to run smoothly or efficiently. I ended up walking down the road to Sunset Nails & I am soooooooooooooo glad that I did cos they do such an amazing job. Had I gone back to High Touch, I never would have experiences the Glamour that is Sunset Nails on 19th & Iriving so Im glad that this happened (blessing in disguise) Today I walked by HighTouch Nails & looked in the windows. The staff were there, but no customers. They noticed me walk by and I waved. They lost my custom. I have been coming to High Touch for waxing services since I moved to the neighborhood in 2016 and have always been very pleased with the service I have received. The staff are always friendly and kind, the salon is very clean, and I can always get an appointment. I just had a mani-pedi and am very pleased with it! My gel polish is very even and tidy and there is almost no gap between the polish and my cuticle (huge pet peeve). My only suggestion for improvement (which is true for every nail salon I have been to in the city) is that they spend more time scrubbing my feet to get rid of the calluses. Otherwise, no complaints. I don't consider manicures to be a luxury. Because of the sort of work I do, I wash my hands often which causes dry, cracked cuticles no matter how much lotion I might use. The quick stop here yielded a solid cleanup with minimal fuss for the rock bottom price of ten smackers. The manicurist was kind enough to douse one extra ragged cuticle in an antiseptic to prevent infection. Very thoughtful. Credit cards are accepted. My review is updated. After going in here for over 15,years, the management changed. They weee nice for about one month but then the last time I was there, out of nowhere, after being told to wait for 10 minutes for an appointment I was asked to leave when they oassed over me with no explanation. It was embarrassing because it was crowded and the woman/owner was rude. I said that I was told I was next but she told me to leave. She wouldn't look at me. Unprovoked she literally threw me out. Go figure. Racists? I don't know what else it could have been. I tip 25% and am pleasant. How do they expect to make money here? I called the former corner and she told me they hate the salon and don't want to be there. Not my problem. They do not deserve such a good location. WORST pedicure of my life. WORST. I put that in all caps on purpose... Kristin R. and I were in DIRE need of pedicures. I had a long day and was desperately looking forward to a relaxing pedicure... I could just imagine myself in the massage chair, feet soaking in a warm tub, foot massage, calf massage... then I envision them saying... 10 more minutes for only $5... Ok... keep going. Don't stop... BUT.... my dreams were shattered as soon as we walked in. Massage chairs? Yes. Tubs... no... they bring out a 'fancy bucket' with a garbage bag around it and then the water in that. So yes... your feet are constantly touching plastic. And there's no bubbles. And it scares me that they are too lazy to clean the tubs. Does that mean you don't clean your utensils? probably. That's why I didn't complain when they didn't fully trim and manage my 6-month-without-pedicure toes. Then comes the massage... I'm like, can't really go wrong there right? WRONG. You can go wrong when you rub my feet and calf for 10 seconds. Literally. Kristin R. agrees. Also - my massage chair would only last 2 minutes then I'd have to restart it. Plus it wasn't the best chair ever. In the end... my toes look like shit. I got a french and yes it's more difficult but if you do this for a living you should be able to get it straight. This is the shittiest pedicure I've gotten in a really long time. They weren't friendly at ALL when we walked in. They demanded what we wanted and were obviously annoyed we were frolicking in about 15 minutes before closing time. She then told me my nails were too short for a french manicure. Um OK biatch...that was ALI that wanted a french manicure, NOT me. The woman that did my pedicure was friendly but that doesn't make up for the fact that the pedicure was pure shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. The massage lasted not more than 10 seconds and I'm not exaggerating. Also, the pumice stone they use to scrub the nasty callouses off your feet was awful. I wanted to tell her to put a little umph behind it but whatever. Then the other lady came over and they were looking at my toes and then they laughed! Very rude and dude, it's not like my feet are hideous or anything. Screw them. I kind of want to take it off I hate it that much. The only reason I tipped them is because I feel bad when I don't. I wanted to give them nothing because that's how bad it was. I hate that in this country you have to tip for even the shittiest service, otherwise you're a cheap ass. Whatever. Fine. I have a go-to place that I normally go to, but it can be a bit pricy when I want to get a manicure weekly or biweekly so I needed to find another place. I found this place which is down the street from where I live. So $10 for a manicure so $12 with tip is pretty good. Good manicure, but not that great at the hand massage. There are some average colors, but good for special occasions or in between going to another place for a mani/pedi. Almost MEN! Go get a manicure and pedicure. It's been over three weeks since I've gotten my pedi at this place and unfortunately the polish has already come off of the tips of my big toes. My cousin and I decided to treat ourselves to a pedi and catch up on some girl talk on a Saturday afternoon. Having a plethora of nail salons to choose from in the inner Sunset area, we ducked into High Touch because it was the closest one. From the outside, it looked like a decent place to get a pedi. The inside is well-maintained and clean. The set-up is a bit odd though. All the stations are set up along the walls so there is this huge empty space in the middle. The mood was a bit like a doctor's office as well as there was no music playing, the fluorescent lights overhead gave everything a weird tone, and everyone spoke in hushed voices. The selection of polishes wasn't great. They had a bunch of Opi bottles, many duplicates, and it looked like some Essie polishes as well. No toxic-free polishes to choose from at all. Their pricing is a bit strange as well. $18 for a regular pedi and $2 more for a "spa" pedi which is just a pedi in one of their massage chairs. Intent on getting our relaxation on, we sprung for the additional $2 and had fun playing with the different settings as our technicians worked on our toes. The pedi itself was only meh. The woman that worked on me looked so bored and uninterested in the work. I didn't expect her to be riveted by scrubbing my feet but at least try to look like you give a crap about them! All she did was look out the window to check out all the people that passed by. When a cute guy would walk by, she'd lose concentration and stare off until the guy had walked beyond her field of vision. Then she'd snap back into reality and return to my feet. Her leg massage was the weakest massage I've ever gotten in my entire life! I guess I should have told her she could go harder but I thought it would just be a waste of time. I do have to give her credit for one thing - my toes looked damn pretty when she was done. I loved the way she shaped my nails more square than round (another issue is that she never asked how I wanted my toenails shaped!). She did an excellent job on the polish as well. After she was done, she just left me sitting there as she went to get a drink of water, sit behind the cash register, and continue staring out the window. Not until my cousin's pedi was done and her technician put a dryer on her toes for her did my technician come back and half-heartedly drag a dryer over for me. Hello? My final assessment is that this place is decent but if you come here, you must be assertive with your needs if you get my daydreaming technician. For $20, I could have gone to my local joint in the East Bay for way better polish selection, service, attention, and a pedi that lasts way longer! Two stars for the the great pedi despite the attitude and the fun my cousin and I had with the massage chairs. read more

Sadly, I won't be returning here. When I walked in everyone was sitting around in a corner, no one stood when I walked in, after a few moments of awkward silence I was asked what I needed done. Pedicure and Acrylic Nails/ Manicure. The pedicure was actually really great, the women who did it was very kind and detailed. However I do not like the fact they use bowls with plastic bags to put your feet in. Now the manicure and acrylic nails.. Firstly, the women did not even touch my cuticles, which were in need of some love, I didn't really even notice until after I had left (my mind was elsewhere). Secondly, she cut me REALLY badly while filing, it caused me to bleed, she didn't try to stop the bleeding, just gave me a laughing apology. Thirdly, I was so distracted by the cut that I didn't notice until I got home that one of my nails was SO crooked you would have skied on it if it was a mountain. There are quite a few nail spots along Irving but High Touch seemed the most clean and bright. Since it was early Saturday afternoon, the place was packed and waited for 15 minutes before it was my turn. The lady that helped me did a thorough job. She spent about 30 minutes on me and I ended up with pretty pink nails for only $8. I would recommend this place! read more

I got a mani pedi for $25 with the best foot massage EVER for 10mis, $8..what a bargain! They shaped my nails exactly how I like them and they actually got all the dead cuticles, off. The last place I went they skimped out, which is why I had to find a new place. With regards to waxing their prices are really low! $12 for lip and chin, Bikini $13 and up!! Eyebrow $8. Do NOT EVER go to one of these places for you first eyebrow wax, that is just dumb on your part. You need to go pay $20 to get it professionally shaped first, then for routine maintenance these little Asain places do a fine job, becuase they just follow the line the aesthician made. Anyhow, there is another salon down the road or maybe like 10 doors down, they SUCK I don't care how cheap they were...I can't remember the name though, but they cut hair in there too, mostly mens hair. read more

I can see how easily one can be deceived into walking in this place. You're cruising by looking for a place that won't give you toe nail fungus and from the sidewalk this place looks bright and clean and cheerful inside. I can't say for sure that you will get toe nail fungus if you choose to go to High Touch but I can definitely tell you that the wait will be far too long, the nail polish applied much too thinly, and the top coat practically a figment of your imagination its so perfunctory. Instead of enduring such a mediocre manicure, what you really should do is walk your lazy ass down one more block and go to Nail Arts. read more

See a girl's gotta get her hair done and her nails fixed. Then I be feeling all fine and sexy and whatnot. So one Saturday afternoon that's exactly what I did. Got myself all beautified so that my toes are a perfect shade of fire engine RED!! The girl who touched my tootsies did a fantastic job of making my feet perfect, which I appreciate cause I hate doing my own pedicures. More than a week later and not a chip in sight. Plus it was cheap ($16 plus tip) and they used OPI or Essie nail polishes (no cheapo no name brands for them). I'd rather pay more for quality nail polish that doesn't require touch-ups. Oh and can we talk about the feet and leg massage? Ah I think that might have been more action than I've gotten in a while. Sigh...I'm going back the next time I need to feel like a pampered girl. read more

I only come here to get my eyebrows waxed so I don't know how they are in mani/pedicures (but apparently they're not that great at them). I've never had a problem with my eyebrows waxed. The woman shows you to the back room which has a table, mirror on the wall and her hot wax and other items. The wax is the right temperature and she makes sure the cloth is securely on the wax and then in one instance, rips off the cloth. Afterwards, which I've never had any other place do, they'll put some hydrocortisone on your eyebrows to reduce the inflammation (which makes sense). The cost for eyebrow waxing is $8 which is pretty good since I used to pay $10 downtown in an air tight salon which I always left with a headache. On one occasion, I arrived 5 min. before they were supposed to open and nobody came to open the shop until 15 min after they were scheduled to open. The lady never apologized, but I'm still giving them 5 stars because of the consistent service I've had with them. read more

I have been coming here for years and for the most part, they are pretty good! It's not a fancy schmancy salon, but they do a decent job and for a mani/pedi it's only $25 so the price is right. They have a bunch of colors - including OPI (even the most recent collections!) so there is always something fun to choose. I wish they spent more time on the massage and other treatments, but again, it's only $25. I have never made an appointment, always walked-in, and they are very accommodating, even when it's close to closing. Usually the quality of the polish application depends on who you get. This last time my mani was definitely better than my pedi which could have been a little more carefully polished. All said, it's cheap, clean and fast. The worst part about coming here is the dreadful parking. There are NO spots and you have to deal with all of the people trying to get to San Tong which is on the next block. They take credit cards but not for tips, so make sure you have a few dollars in your pocket! read more

My group of friends and I were on our way to a recommended nail salon up the street from here. We passed by this salon but continued walking up the block to the other one. Seeing the size of the other salon shop, we knew there would be no way that all 6 of us would fit inside the shop, so we resorted into coming here. We were quickly greeted and asked to pick out nail colors on the back shelf. As we all piled over and quickly selected our nail polish colors, we went back to the chairs near the door to wait for the next worker to be available. From my group of friends, I was asked to be seated at the desk first. I had wanted to get gel nails but as I quickly scanned the "menu", it was not there, so I resorted into getting a simple manicure. The service was great. I especially loved the hand massage. Unfortunately, I had not been able to ask for the worker's name, but she was friendly and had taken her time to really fix my nails. She did a great job overall. I could tell that she had not rushed through doing my nails sloppily. I recommend her very much. If you're ever there, look for the older lady with the thicker accent. The overall cost was cheap, only $10. I will be coming back here soon! read more

I'm really surprised that everyone has such bad things to say about this place -- I wandered in for a pedicure the day I came to check out my apartment in this area and since I ended up moving there, I've been coming back ever since. So, about once every 2 - 4 weeks for a pedicure and sometimes a manicure for all of 2009. There is ONE lady there who has done my manicure once and my pedicure once, and both times it was a really shitty job (pedi was today). So, I had one jagged toe nail and I kept waiting for her to cut it or file it and then she pulls out the red nail polish and I'm like "WHAT? YOU CAN'T PAINT THAT?!! CAN YOU EVEN THAT OUT PLEASE?"... what the hell? She was very apologetic, but... get real. She is never touching my hands or feet ever again. I don't know her name, I just know her face, sorry yelpers!!! The best bet is to ask for one of the older ladies, they are both lovely and very careful and nice and always do a great job. They've given me months of wonderful, pretty feet and nice service, so I'm not taking a star away because one of the manicurists is sloppy and lazy. After today, I'm going to always call ahead for an appointment and ask for the older ladies to do my hands and feet. read more

This place was actually not our first choice, but the one we wanted was way too crowded and wait-time was too long. After walking around the few blocks, we decided on this place because it looked pretty legit. We came here for a pedicure. I don't know if it was because we didn't choose the spa/pedicure treatment, but this pedicure felt like it was something I could've just done at home by myself. The water in the tub was barely lukewarm and my feet did not feel pampered. Plus side, it has been a couple weeks already and the polish barely chipped and is still mostly in tact. read more

The positives: -Can walk in and get taken quickly -Clean and bright The negatives: -The person who does the waxing is not always the one designated to do so, hence not everyone there is good at it -not the friendliest bunch And the worst negative: -Every time I come here, the price seems to change. I come here for the waxing service with Mandy. She does a wonderful Brazilian wax. Very fast (important!!!) with no muss and no fuss! She's also really sweet and chats it up with you, if you want, to get your mind off the pain. Best of all, it's only $30! I went to downtown salons before and it was about $55. Sure, it's not a "spa-like" environment with an electric blanket and soothing music, but I'm only there to get the god-awful pain over with at a good price. Mandy also does a decent job on the brows as well. As for the mani/pedi service, I agree with most of the Yelpers. It's not good! Mandy gave me a manicure before and it was decent. My housemate swears by this place, I went once because she said it was so fantastic. I didn't really like it that time. I went again to make sure that it really was what it was the first time around. Meh. So walking in, its really nothing to look at. 5 massage chairs on one wall and 3 nail desks at the other. The polishes are all pretty old and gunky. They do the standard chatter in Vietnamese back and forth across the salon, with very little if any interaction with the clients. It is never more than, "What color you like?" They are all seemingly good-hearted and nice, if I could understand Vietnamese, I would verify that...but it seems all in good fun. The nail polish chipped off in just 2 days, both times. It always lasts longer from other salons. The toenail polish lasts several weeks though, dunno whats up with that. The massage chairs are really nice, but they are nothing different than you would see in any other salon. The bring over plastic bag wrapped vibrating buckets to put your feet in for the pedicure. Meh. Nothing special by any means there. The waxing is decent, it was hotter than the normal girl I go to, and a lot spottier, but for the difference in price, I was not going to complain. While I was getting a pedicure, I saw 3 girls come in and ask about waxing, they decreased the wait time for each of them by 10 minutes, although only one of them actually came back. All of that was done with no consultation with the girl in the waxing room. Just a number at random. The one that came back still had to wait a while. Anyway, there are a lot of salons in the area...I am going to feel them out because they have to be better than this place. read more
