I didn't know where to turn, so I consulted ChatGPT, which pointed me to Windowman. It turned out to be the best recommendation I could have received. I soon learned that Rance is widely regarded as the foremost expert in egress windows in the entire state. I called the company, and Rance reached out promptly and arranged to come by the next day. I braced myself for the worst -- a high-pressure sales pitch and a bill somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000. But Rance was unlike any contractor I've dealt with. He assessed the problem, and almost immediately told me I didn't need a new window at all -- he could repair the existing one. I was relieved. When I asked when he could do the work, he said he'd return at the end of his day to handle it himself. When I asked about cost, he told me not to worry, and we eventually settled on a price that was almost embarrassingly reasonable. True to his word, Rance returned late on a Friday afternoon and completed the repair in just a few hours. But he didn't stop there. Rather than simply fixing the problem, he had cleaned up the entire area and replaced all the surrounding metal trim, leaving the window looking and functioning like new. When I pointed out that this was far more than we'd agreed to, he said simply that he wanted the window to be as good as new -- so that's what he made it. That kind of pride in one's work is rare, and it's rarer still in the home contracting industry. What happened next is something I have never done in my 79 years: I paid him more than he asked. I couldn't, in good conscience, accept the quality of work I received for what he intended to charge me. Rance and Windowman have my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation. It seemed like they didn't even read my online submission as they called and immediately tried to schedule an appointment without providing a quote. After declining a $600-$800 amount, we hung up. I then received multiple phone calls from a couple of different people and agreed upon a $500 = tax for ~$542 to replace the rails, rollers and fix the locking mechanism. When the apparent "unrelated" worker showed up, he informed me that they did not replace rails (Youtube videos showed otherwise but regardless...) but he would clean it. When he had completed the roller replacement, he was unaware he needed to fix the locking mechanism. He then replaced it as it was a mechanism that had to be replaced vs. repaired as it was enclosed. When it was all said and done, the rollers were replaced and the lock was replaced but the rail was not replaced and I was charged ~$30 more than agreed upon which was already higher than I thought it should be. The worker was excellent but the rest of the experience was lass than desirable in my opinion.

The product was good and the installation was flawless. But now eight years later they seem to put the customer last. This evaluation stems from a recent encounter when I requested help from the company after a battery for one of my electric blinds wouldn't accept a charge. Their immediate recommendation was to replace the motors for all four electric blinds at a cost around $1,000. Needless to say, I was stunned by their recommendation. I was pretty sure it was either a bad battery or a bad charger. They offered to send a technician out to assess my problem as long as I agreed to pay a $150 trip charge. Well that offer just sucked all the joy out of me. Instead, I asked if I could speak with a technician so I could describe what I discovered after conducting some basic testing. They said they would have someone call me, but nobody did. Further testing supported my belief that the charger was bad. I found an exact replacement online for the device I had, but the manufacturer had discontinued it. That told me everything I needed to know. I found another charger on Amazon for $15 and it was delivered the next day. Thank you Amazon. The new charger worked. Problem solved. I have to say I was extremely happy that $15 for a new charger saved me from spending $1000 to replace four window blind motors.......plus a $150 trip charge (eye roll here) .... :). Bottom line: they might still do good installations, but their follow-up support needs some work.
