Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. I was still a little hungry after eating my fish and chip dinner and needed a little bit more. The front desk clerk at the Rand Hotel suggested that I walk to the pub as everything else was closed. A couple blocks later, I entered Lyons Pub. The place seemed like a nice, friendly and relaxing place. I ordered some wings from the bartender. 10 minutes later, I had my wings in hand ready and was ready to walk back to the hotel. The Hangover Burger. Nothing else was on it besides a fried egg. Ordered it medium and it arrived well and overall pretty dry. I wouldn't order this even if I had a monster hangover. Find a White Castle. I'll try a different burger next time. There's plenty of choices on the menu. Bowl of Beer Cheese Soup. It was good. Hand cut fries were very good. Not greasy or soft. Oh, it felt great to be back, belly up to the bar, sipping a Lyon's lager! The Hubster and I stopped in after walking all over downtown on a sunny Saturday. The barkeep told us the day's special - pastrami on toasted swirl bread with pepper jack cheese, kraut and banana peppers - and that was all I needed. He said he was ordering that for his lunch, too! The salad substitute was a smart move; beautiful, loaded with toppings and just the right weight with that sammich. We decided to come as we thought we saw a happy hour menu somewhere, but it turns out that we were mistaken and they did not have anything going on, which I was thoroughly disappointed by since there are plenty of nearby pubs and bars that offer a great happy hour menu. We got some beers anyway as well as an order of fish and chips, which was just maybe not my style since I enjoy the softer, less bread-y beer batter that has a smoother appearance but almost equal crunch. The fries and pickles it came with were also just okay and came rather soaked in oil and shriveled up. We were in town for the Chiefs game and tried to go to Tom's watch place but they had a 2 hour wait so we popped in here instead. The place was packed but we managed to snag a table for 4. Very fun environment, lots of tvs, good energy for a sports bar. Shared a Rueben with my husband and it was fine, not the best I've ever had but serviceable. The fries were a bit cold but I think if they were hot they would have been very good. Our waitress was hustling! I think she might have been the only one for the whole bar! Exploring the Minneapolis city center, it became obvious to me that pubs are a big part of the local dining scene. Hence pubs were a big part of our family vacation dining scene. And I'd like to add drinking scene.   Established in 1984, the Lyons Pub is in close proximity to major Minneapolis city center attractions. Standing alongside 6th Street it is between the major thoroughfares of Hennepin and Niccolet. Across the street stands the City Center Building. It is in the shadow of the IDS Center and Capella Tower. The Metro Station is a block east. In the heart of the city skyline, it  is also in the heart of Minnesota professional sports country. A couple of blocks north are Target Field - Home of the Minnesota Twins and Target Center-Home of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx. It is so close to Target Field, that I saw baseball fans walking into Target Field. Lyons Pub is also a short walk to city center hotels. One of them is Embassy Suites, which was our Minneapolis home from July 16 to 23. My dad, brother, and I would enjoy a couple of dinners and a few late night drinks here.    Lyons Pub served us our very first Minneapolis meal. It was during a very wet late Tuesday afternoon when we walked into the pub. Just like many visitors exploring Minneapolis, we saw it from the skyway. This leads to an important tip. Lyons Pub is connected to the Minneapolis skyway system by ways of the Embassy Suites lobby. From the skyway, just walk down one level of stairs or hop on one elevator flight and the door is to the left of the registration. In the later hours this is ineffective when the skyway closes. In contrast to the modern skyway, Lyons Pub felt historic. It felt as if Louis Hennepin could step inside any minute. The interior felt much older than 1984, the year it was established.   Upon glancing at the menu, I was immediately decided on their fish & chips. I made the right decision. At $13.95 the plate featured two generous battered cod patties with French Fries, a dill pickle, and cup of tarter sauce. Their fish & chips were so delectable, that this item was my food of choice in Minneapolis pubs. However, when we ate our second Lyons Pub meal on July 20, I ordered the Philly. At $14.95, the plate featured the Philly, French Fries, and five slices of dill pickles. Regardless that the sandwich overfilled the plate and satisfied my taste buds, it fell short of getting me enthusiastic like their fish & chips did. By the way, my dad loved their patty melt which he ate both visits. With both meals, I drank a soda. What? No beer in an Irish pub? Please read the following paragraph.   I enjoy a cold one before bed. Unfortunately I cannot thank Heaven for 7-Eleven in the Minneapolis City center. Unlike my adopted city of Las Vegas, there is a scarcity of convenience stores here. No worries! During the week that Embassy Suites was our home, there were a few late nights where Lyons Pub was our in home bar. The dim lighting and historical motif complemented the relaxing effects of the tap beer. On Minnesota Twins nights, I'd take advantage of the $4 Coors Lite special. On other nights I took advantage of the local blonde brewed beer. Most of all I took advantage of the all you can eat self serve popcorn. In all honesty in the late hours of the night after the city center kitchens shut down and my appetite reopened, I overindulged in the popcorn. May I add, it was delicious popcorn.   Throughout our visits here, their service met our expectations. Speaking of service if you are walking in from 6th Street at night (the only entrance) they can be very thorough looking over the guest's driver's lisence while being welcoming. This is not the place for underage drinkers to try to sneak into. Inside the servers are on the eight ball with customer service.    If I were to say that Lyon Pub was just okay, I would be lion. Throughout the week that we lived in the Minneapolis city center, Lyons Pub was a welcoming establishment to enjoy delicious pub food and a late night cold one. read more

I was in town for one night only and was tired when I arrived at the hotel. The pub was conveniently located right next to the hotel. I stopped in to get some food to go. Would be a great place to meet friends from drinks and a meal or even date night. I got the fish and chips and for dessert, some carrot cake. The fish cake with crispy waffle fries and the carrot cake cake with whipped topping and a caramel sauce but it was perfect without either one. read more

We were a bit irritably our waitress who kept referring to us as "You guys" and I didn't really need to know here mom has the same handbag. Tone dead waitress aside (for which I removed 1 star) I recommend the pub, especially if you are staying next door at the Embassy Suites as there is a connecting door. read more

Came here after Ed Sheeran Concert (which was awesome, btw!!) Garret, our server, was simply phenomenal!! Ambiance was great - it was after the concert. It was busy, but he kept our beers coming. Did not get food, kitchen was closed 4 the night, but plenty of TVs to catch up on sports stuff. Only downside - last call was 12:30 on a Saturday. I'm from Ohio - last call is usually 2am. Kind of collegey, kind of business after work, kind of touristy, this spacious pub has a little bit of everyone in it. The bar is large and horseshoed shaped, but we never had a chance to sit at it since it was always so busy. The food was decent. The seasonal berry salad was a bit weak as it only had strawberries, but everything else was on point. They make a sidecar! I may have had a few too many of those. The wife and I stopped in here for a bite and a beverage before the Twins game. Strange as it sounds (if you've never had it), we started with the beer cheese soup with popcorn. It was quite tasty. For my main course, I had the buffalo chicken wrap, which was very good, as were the fries that came with the wrap. To wash it all down, I had two local beers that hit the spot. Q, the bartender, was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and efficient. The only (minor) downside we experienced was that from our seats at the bar, we didn't have a clear view of any of the TVs. read more

The concierge at my hotel told me to come here and try the famous Juicy Lucy. However, when I arrived I was told there was not one on the menu. The concierge told me that they had had one at this bar about two weeks prior, so I'm not sure what's going on. Either way, I decided on the fish and chips. The presentation was beautiful, but the breading was a little too thick for my taste and instead of being able to cut into it with my fork, I actually had to use my knife to saw into the fish. It was also incredibly dense (probably because of the thick breading), not as light and flaky as I've had at other places. The service was inconsistent. The server that I started off with seem nice enough, but got progressively more curt towards the end of my visit. Eventually, she disappeared from the bar altogether and another guy (who I think was a manager) took over. He was nice enough, but the weird inconsistent service was a bit offputting and by the time I'd had my fill of fish and chips, I was more than ready to close out my tab and leave. read more

Only place that was open on a Monday attached to my hotel - embassy suites. I had a Choco Tini - it was very good . Got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of soup. Unfortunately they were out of their beer cheese soup so it was chicken dumpling soup is- which was OK. The pulled pork sandwich was awful. There was a ton of meat which was nice but it wasn't even edible. It was so tough and chewy. The barbecue sauce was OK and the bun was so soggy that there literally was not a bun. Very disappointing. Unfortunately it's currently a blizzard here in Minneapolis so this is gonna be my only option of where to eat today again.......ugh read more

Average ambience, sub-par service, horrible alcohol, terrible food. We were a group of 5, and went there a bit late, but quite far from their closing time. I got a bourbon old fashioned. It was outright disgusting. Others in our group ordered several other cocktails, and most of them were really bad! And I was especially surprised with their Moscow Mule which was not only served in a plastic glass (as opposed to a copper mug), but it did not even look anything like a Moscow Mule either. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were good. But the taste was far from decent! The french fries were the only exception, and they were quite good. But all other food items were terrible. I got a burger, and asked it to be medium-rate. The ultimate product was so "well done", that I felt it deserved a pat in the back! The service was quite sub-par, considering that there were not many customers. The server seemed to forget about us often, and would just neglect us. In fact, for one drink, she let it sit so long before getting it to us, that all the ice just melted. Avoid this place if you can. Not recommended at all. read more

We asked for a comp and the waitress was again Russ ever and argued with my friend about it. It kinda ruins a nice dinner out when everything comes out at once.
