I've wanted to dine at Murray's for some time, I was finally able to make it happen this past weekend for a family celebration. This is exactly what I like to find in a classic American steakhouse, low lighting, big tables and booths, signed pics of celebrities on the wall, and old school decor. The service was excellent, fast, and delivered with a smile every time, which was impressive since we had a large group. The steak was all amazing, as were the sides. Some members of our party ordered the classic butter knife steak, others the surf and turf, my wife and I opted for one of the specials which was a 18 Oz bone in Kansas City strip. Our steak was excellent, cooked and seasoned very nicely, and carved table side. The Caesar salad was also great, as were the shared sides, we had mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts, I think the Brussels sprouts were my favorite, they had a nice Thai flavor to them. Took a trip to Minneapolis and looked up some places to eat. We found Murray's and a photo of the raspberry pie which was the main reason I wanted to go. My husband loooves steak, especially classic steakhouse so we went for dinner. The bread basket alone is worth a visit. Came with a pretzel, rolls, cheesy breadsticks, and frosting. My kids loved that. My husband and I split the wedge salad, a steak, and loaded hashbrowns and it was more than enough food. They split everything up for us and didnt charge a split plate fee. The salad came with both French and blue cheese dressing and it was great! For dessert we ordered the raspberry pie. I've never seen anything like it and it was so good! Service was top notch, food was delicious, and everything about Murray's is great. We loved Murray's so much we came back again in the 2 days! Never a bad experience going to Murray's! By far my favorite steakhouse in Minneapolis. Such a cool restaurant with cool fancy vibes and the servers are impeccable! We did the Chateaubriand for Two. We asked for the a medium cook, and the server told us that their medium is a hot red center, and thats exactly what we got. Steak was super soft and delicious! While Murray's has been a Twin Cities favorite for generations, this was our first visit to celebrate my hubby's birthday. It was a Sunday evening so the restaurant was fairly quiet. The interior is relaxing and nice. It's what you think it should feel like for a nice steakhouse. The service was good. Nothing extra special or over the top. I did mention on our reservation that it was my husband's birthday and we were seated in a very nice corner booth and the server also mentioned the birthday which was great! Food was very good. Came here for our work Christmas lunch and honestly, it was perfect. We were able to order from the dinner menu which made every thing 10x better. This really reminds me of an old school steakhouse and I love that vibe because I feel like some new age steakhouses get too creative. I love that it has all of the traditional menu items. The escargot was lovely, not overcooked, it was just amazing in a lovely garlic butter served with some crusty bread. Delish. A bit disappointed by the steak, but everything else was tip-top. Valet could drive a stick and praised me for driving one, it being a dying art. I also enjoyed the house Manhattan, so I had another, rebel that I am. Carter, our server, did fine and even brought us a slice of cake for our anniversary. Menu prices are about as friendly as I've seen at a Mpls steakhouse lately, if still high. 10 oz filet for $72 is no bargain, and I wish I had had it, instead opting for the Tournedos of Beef and finding the two 3 oz filets a bit overdone and dry. Entering from the street, the bar is on the right and the main dining room is forward. Started the night with a nice Spanish red. They have an extensive wine menu and craft cocktails as well. First to was the crab and corn chowder. It was great. Second up was the lobster appetizer, which was an Australian lobster tail in a butter and lemon sauce. Unfortunately this was over cooked. For the price, it definitely was not worth. Main couse was a porterhouse and potatoes in a cheddar sauce. The porterhouse was perfectly cooked and really delicious. The potatoes were okay, but a little under seasoned. Still the meal was pretty good. For dessert there was a molten fugde cake topped with ice cream. That was also good. I went here for a retirement celebration for a former coworker. I do not eat steak and did not see much of anything else I would eat on the menu. I ended getting a baked potato & Mac and cheese. Among everything I have eaten, majority of it is very salty, which is what has ultimately contributed to my rating. However, flavor aside I will say that the texture is consistently on point, from the crab cakes to the tenderloin steak. I still had a great experience and I would recommend this establishment as a solid steakhouse for those that are looking for good steak. My friend and I got the chateaubriand for two, and proceeded with French onion soup and asparagus for the sides. The French onion soup had very soft caramelized onions along with cheese that formed a strong layer to maintain the hotness. It was very salty, so I kind of did something taboo and quickly poured some water in it and it worked beautifully in both making it cooler and less salty. The asparagus wasn't salty, but was in contrast kind of plain, which wasn't a problem because asparagus just tasted good regardless. The tenderloin was indeed very tender and cooked perfectly medium rare! I felt like the outside had a bit too much salt, probably because it was seasoned with additional salt after the steak was cooked. Still, I definitely enjoyed it. By checking in to Yelp, I also obtained a coupon for a chef's choice desserts, which was ice cream with caramel on top of a piece of browning, and it tasted very good. I was happy about having a free dessert at all. Overall, I am happy that I have given Murray's a try even if I don't really eat steak, especially because it was around my birthday time and I tried something new! read more

Old school done right. We celebrated my mother's 92nd birthday this evening and all enjoyed the occasion. Two of us had fish, one (a vegetarian) had the beet salad, and the rest of us had steak. My brother's peppercorn steak was excellent. I had the small dinner steak which was very good, along with French onion soup and Szechuan green beans. Murray's has been a family mainstay for celebrations. The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection and was wonderfully tender. But it was a little too salty for our table's liking. We upgraded our sides and it ended up being so much food! Leftovers for days! The favorite side was the au gratin potatoes by far!! The loaded hashbrowns were also incredible. The Thai Brussels sprouts were a little too sweet and the macaroni and cheese was a little gritty. The service here is always fantastic and this time was no different. Our server made excellent recommendations and was very attentive throughout the evening. I'm not sure what I could add that hasn't already been said. We had a large reservation for a celebration for a friend. I tried to upload a bunch of photos as well. Greg was our server and he was phenomenal! His recommendations and knowledge were impeccable. I ordered the walleye with hashbrown while my husband ordered the ribeye with fries and poblano cream corn. We intended to split these items as we were both torn between the two. The bread beforehand was delicious and I definitely ate more than I should have. My fish was great as were my hashbrowns. They had a great crispness which I love. The ribeye was mindblowingly good. A few in our party ordered dessert and passed it around. The raspberry pie was great but the cheesecake was phenomenal. The restaurant is classy and I loved how clean the restrooms were. When a restaurant has elegant and highly looked after restrooms, you can usually tell it will be a wonderful dining experience. I left so full I didn't eat until dinner the next evening. I ordered the caesar salad and my husband ordered the lobster bisque- the caesar dressing was delicious. The brussel sprouts were very good and had a little spice to them and the hashbrowns were just okay in my opinion- they were a little cold in the center. I'm not from the area so I don't know the history of Murray's, but the classy, historic vibe embraces you as soon as you enter. Our group of six sat in the bar prior to our reservations for cocktails. The Murray's Sidecar was fabulous, and another favorite of our table was the Maker's 46 Custom Old Fashioned. For appetizers we selected the Hickory Smoked Shrimp and the Stuffed Mushrooms, and this was where the only hiccup of the night occurred as the shrimp were tough and chewy. The stuffed mushrooms had an amazing play of flavors between the bacon, pecan, apple and gorgonzola. My mom and I ordered the Chateaubriand for Two. She chose french onion soup and I had their daily soup which was corn chowder. Both were delicious. Upon the waitress' slicing of the tenderloin tableside, you could immediately see that it was perfectly medium rare, as requested. I can't tell you the last time we have had such succulent beef; it was hard to pull ourselves away and nosh on our sides but we did. My mom went with the au gratin potatoes and I upgraded to the asparagus. Even though Murray's was packed, as it was following the Vikings/Lions game, the service was impeccable from start to finish. Our Valentine's Day tradition continued this year, and as always, Murray's did not disappoint. We tried the stuffed mushroom appetizer for the first time, and it was unsurprising delicious. We've had the French onion soup before, but this year it was exceptionally good, really amazingly so. The cocktails, the steak, really everything, was terrific, and, again as usual, the service was impeccable. E.g. the person tasked with filling our water stopped doing so as we approached the end of the meal, something more restaurants should do. Definitely a great place to go when you're in town. A lot of history. Cocktails are exceptional! We have also discovered "Carajillo" it is a coffee cocktail for after dinner. Funfact: Carajillo means "little dick" in Spanish. Not sure if that's the intention for the drink but it is one yummy cocktail. Overall the foods are amazing, but personally I think the beef itself are better at Manny's. Not because it's how it's cook. Murray cooks the beef perfectly but I prefer the nicely more complex flavor of aged beef at Manny's Murray does a very good Caesar Salad, One of the best I've eaten so far. A fantastic old school steakhouse dinner at Murray's. This place has been around a while, you can tell it's got some history to it. And if you're looking for a perfectly cooked steak in Minneapolis, maybe without all those bells and whistle's that a modern steakhouse may have, Murray's is your spot. We had a private dinner here. Everything was A1. Service, food, drinks, conversation. Just a great all around experience. They even stayed open later for us to allow our party to finish up. The food: The strip steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. I added some sides of mushrooms, asparagus, and potatoes, but just by itself the steak was great. We also had a few appetizers: Arancini (great) and crab cakes (just ok, but I am from MD). To finish we had a chocolate cake that was topped with toffee pieces. Very decadent and a perfect finish to a great meal. The drinks: Opted for an old fashioned to start. Can't go wrong. It was nice and strong, not too sweet. Whiskey fusion was similar to a riff on a whiskey sour. It was ok but not my thing. If neat pours are your thing they did have a pretty good variety and had some rare allocated bourbons that were not on the menu, so just ask. They had several specials for the evening that weren't on the menu, I went with the bone in ribeye along with a side of bernaise and it was possibly the best steak I've ever had in my life. I recently stopped by Murrays a few days ago while on vacation in Minnesota. The restaurant is definitely more upscale, it has classy decor and plenty of seating. To start off, they give you a complementary bread basket that I wasn't really a fan of. I took one bite of this over salted and over buttered bread and it threw me off. I Ordered a French onion soup for appetizer that was absolutely delicious! The broth had a deep beefy flavor. For main course, I had a ribeye. I requested the chef cook my ribeye medium rare, Pittsburgh style. Pittsburgh style calls for a very deep sear on the steak to give it a good char on the outside. When I received my steak, it did have a beautiful sear but unfortunately, it was cooked medium rather than medium rare. I still enjoyed it! My sides of macaroni and cheese and sautéed mushrooms were both very good. For dessert, my party ordered the angel food cake and raspberry pie. I was not much of a fan of the angel food cake, but I found the raspberry pie very balanced between sweet and tart. It was quite refreshing. Overall pretty good meal read more

In the heart of Minneapolis is a timeless steakhouse with a ton of history. Some coworkers and I are here in the twin cities for a work conference and decided to check out Murray's for dinner. The ambiance of the restaurant feels like a refined hideaway from the 20's with a number of photos and bottles of wine adorned on the walls. The dim lights allowed for a sense of elegance. Our server was super attentive and able to help us decipher the menu as we started to think about what we wanted. We decided to order the Steak Frites, Red Lake Walleye, and the Tournades Medallions with a side of loaded hashbrowns, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. The brussels sprouts and the hashbrowns were the BOMB. We probably could have gone without the asparagus but the rest of the food was great. The sauce on the steak frites was a bit salty, but aside from that the food was decent. One thing that I will highlight is their Murray garlic toast. It's incredibly seasoned and buttered and for me (I love some seasoning) it tasted great. For others, it was a little too salty. For dessert, we had the famous raspberry pie and it was alright!
