They called me up in response to this review and admitted they made a mistake that caused me to be overcharged. They made it right by doing my synthetic oil change and tire rotation both free of charge on 4/5/25 and checked everything for me. They were very nice, checked all around my car, gave me a list of things needed for next time and got it all done in under an hour! Where do I begin? Suffice to say that I was taken advantage of by these "polite" crooks. I thought it was because I'm a woman, but it seems that other poor reviews were from men as well. I brought in a car that was running fine given her age, but came out with a hot mess and an empty wallet and a broken front seat. $4,000! What? They have some racket going with their "complimentary" inspection. Nothing in this life is free. I've been back and forth with them for months now, but I get the usual runaround and "drop her off". MD Auto . tried to over charge me to tow the van to them . then they said they will issue a free examination of the vehicle. after that they called me and said someone wanted to buy my van . I refused. they then told me they will do a FREE diagnostic that amount to $14,1110 to fix it . I told them I dont want the work to be done until get a loan . The Next them they suddenly auction my VAN eventhough they did not do any work on it for $15,000 for storage fee that they never demanded storage and $123 in repairs that they was not to do and did not do . They had their eyes on my van from the first day I took it there they said one of their friends wanted to buy it for $5000. I told them I will think about but do the free examination so I get it inspection done . Now I have to take them to court for felony fraud . The only reason I'm not leaving 1 star is because they go out of their way to be friendly and have good customer service. I brought my vehicle to this shop and spent 4 thousand dollars. The main reason I brought it there was because when I hit the gas pedal my vehicle hesitated a bit like something wasn't firing correctly or something was clogging. Decided to have other things fixed since it would be there. They had my car for 3 MONTHS. I have a secondary vehicle so I wasn't harassing them, but this is what makes it even more egregious. I picked the car up and drove it 5 miles. Was sitting at a red light and went to accelerate and nothing was happening. Car just about stalled out as I had my pedal to the floor and pumping it to get it to move. After about 15 seconds it starts moving and running very rough, and on top of it a check engine light pops up. So 3 months gone (they had my sports car for the entire summer) 4K spent, and the main issue I brought it there for became worse somehow. Clearly they didn't spend more than a couple minutes driving it to check if they even drove it at all. I've never written 1 bad review about a business, so that should tell you something. Bring your business elsewhere to "professionals" that actually give a shit. read more

I use M&D for their AAA service. The drive didn't even secure my truck down. My truck went through the back of their truck. The driver couldn't even speak English really I asked for drivers license didn't have a tow truck drivers license. I am notifying the DMV and who else and everyone else I have to this man should not be in business. He pushed the issue repairing my truck and put all aftermarket parts on it. I have to take them to court not small claims civil court which I already did. The paperwork is in. and don't deal with matt he will BS you all day long tells me parts cost over $5000. I didn't know aftermarket parts cost that much. I'm still contemplating if I should put up the pictures of my truck sitting through the back of his window on his. I guess I'll have to think about the pictures and the picture of them person. Be very careful with this outfit. I called AAA for a tow and MD was dispatched to my location. Driver was not forthcoming with the fact that there would be a charge to tow my car even though I had AAA. After towing me 26 miles to my house, before he lowered my car down, he stood at the controls to the tow truck boom and he asked "How much money are you going to give me ? " I thought this was a strange request however, I always tip people that do service work for me, I handed him a gratuity of $25 and he told me "It's not enough "... I was shocked, anybody I've ever given to a tip to said thank you. He then told me "That was a $300 tow and if you want AAA to cover that tow, you'll have to give me more money ". After arguing with him in the street for 15 minutes in the rain I was so aggravated that I told him- Ok , I'll pay the 300, but put it on my credit card, he told me it had to be in cash, I told him fine, write me up a receipt and he said, "No receipt." He threatened to tow my car back to where he picked it up from and actually started to drive away. At this point, I was completely beside myself, extremely aggravated, and totally stressed out due to this guy's actions , I blocked his tow truck in with my other car so he couldn't leave and called MD auto directly. I was able to get a hold of his boss on the phone and negotiate a price of $150 for the tow, but they still refused to take a credit card, had to be paid in cash! My In- laws entire family uses MD auto repair for all their vehicle's oil changes brake jobs and inspections. They will now be switching to American muffler in E Patchouge and if I ever need a tow that's not covered by AAA, I'll call Elite towing. Shame on AAA for contracting with an outfit that is this unprofessional and discourteous. read more

I have used MD Auto Repair a handful of times over the past 2 years for everything from an oil change to an elusive problem with my Jeep that needed to be correctly diagnosed and repaired, which it was. The last job MD did for me though really showed their skill and capabilities. I brought a 1993 Buick I own to MD to get it back on the road. The car had been sitting idle for 4 years and needed a thorough diagnosing and plently of work done, including a new Head Gasket. Matt and his crew got it done. They are very good at what they do. I have been in the patchogue area and I needed a oil change, Went to MD, left my Crosstrek. Got a phone call telling me the drain plug for the oil was stripped. And I had a host of other issues. After over $1000 in service, and a new battery. I drove off and went home. Fast forward 3 months later, I was driving on the NJ turnpike and heard a terrible noise, like I was dragging something. I pulled over when I could and what was dragging was the undercarriage housing. I was able to make it to jiffy lube and they removed it fully. I don't live around here. Brought it back to MD yesterday morning. The manager knew me as I called ahead. He apologized and said they would order a new one. Fast forward to this morning and I don't know if this is going to happen. Not happy right now knowing that I am not a priority. read more

Had a flat tire, couldn't replace because of health. Issues. AAA told me help would be on the way in almost 2 hours . M &Ds driver Matt was there to the rescue in 20 minutes. Couldn't be more sincere and professional about my predicament. Changed the flat with the donut and warned me theses things can go flat. Very next morning when about to leave to get a tire and go to work, it was flat. Matt to the rescue again. Brought my car to M&D with me as a passenger.The guys there were cordial and friendly, in little more than an hour, I had a new tire and it didn't break the bank. Will be coming back. Car broke down in patchogue called AAA they had this third party company come to tow and the guy convinced me to bring it to his family's shop rather than my mechanic because I'd have to pay for the towing so I did. They wanted to charge me astronomical prices for the services. So I refused I wound up paying $300 for them to look at my car and tow it to my own mechanic. Wasted money. I called AAA and filed a complaint to let them know what is happening in patchogue since they're the only towing company in the area. And are clearly targeting and taking advantage of AAA members with their "10% discount" Be aware of their prices. read more

I used to use this facility for many years , Matt's auto repair hasn't failed me in years except for last week.. I spoke to Michael or Mike the gentleman in the front office and he told me the car will be done that evening. I come back to pick up my car and it's still being worked on they said after they called me and told me come by 4pm it was 4:25 when I got there despite arriving late still wasn't finished. I walked by the bay doors and see my vehicle being worked on by Michael or Mike HE WAS DRENCHED IN SWEAT AND HAD DIRTY GLOVES WITH DIRTY BOOTS ON GOING INTO MY CAR MULTIPLE TIMES LEAVING A DIRTY INTERIOR AND GREASE UP FLOOR MAT!!!!!!!!! Had to spend more time and money going to a car wash the grease wouldn't come out now I have to go get my vehicle detailed. THEY SHOULDNT HAVE OFFICE GUYS WITH NO EXPERIENCE IN THE TECH FIELD WORKING ON CUSTOMER CARS!! They need to hire techs if they need too... Easily the best auto repair place I've been too thus far. Incredibly helpful, funny, and knowledgeable mechanics. They fixed my car in a day right before thanksgiving and explained every single thing they did with the car in great detail. John was the person I talked with the most, and wow you can tell how much care and passion he has for the business. 2 other shops couldn't diagnose my car but M and D did super fast. I came in for a check engine light, a loud engine, and odd revving while idling. M&D made me wait almost 3 hours for them to 1) not put my car on the lift to check it out and 2) tell me that I had an exhaust leak that would be almost $800 to fix. They told me I needed a new muffler, gasket, and connector. In addition to the $800, if I wanted the check engine light fixed, I'd need to pay $150 for them to just find what was wrong, before they'd even get to fixing it. Despite telling them what the code reader said, they wanted to run their own $150 tests. I said no thank you and got a second opinion and went on my way. Well thank goodness I left, because a second opinion found that it was simply a vacuum leak that was less than $200 to repair. After this, my check engine light went off and they even did my inspection for no extra charge. Everyone here is extremely friendly and comes across very nice and trustworthy. If I hadn't gotten a second opinion, I would've taken their word for it and maybe even gone back again! But I'm absolutely appalled at how easily I would've been screwed over more than $500 if I had stuck with them for the repair. My car is now running and sounding better than it has in years, no thanks to MD Auto!!!!! read more

What impressed me the most other then it's a family business since 1978 I think was the detailed email going over what's right and what's wrong with my car. My daughter called AAA today for tow service and MD auto was dispatched. They showed up to the parking lot and abruptly left. No communication as to why. They did not contact my daughter or AAA so no one knew she was still stranded and waiting for help. I have no idea why AAA would contract with an unprofessional company such as this. I had to call a AAA supervisor to get any answers. Apparently they left due to a "police call" with no further communication. After two hours in the nor'easter her car was finally picked up. Extremely frustrating! Not to mention as a parent how worrisome this was for me during a pandemic situation. Not a company I would recommend. Following up with AAA regarding who they contract with since it's a service that is costly. read more

Calling AAA for a towing request for a 1983 Monte Carlo that needed service, I was referred to MD in Patchogue. Matt was not demonstrating good customer service skills. Not dependable towing! Was referred to them by AAA. I waited 3 hours for a tow on Sunday because the guy decided to go to Applebee's in the adjoining parking lot with his girlfriend instead of towing my car. He actually pulled into the Applebees to Go with his massive flat bed! I walked over to the guy and he lied saying that he just got off. He was on for another two hours! I am rating this shop a zero. Scheduled the car to be towed to collision shop and was told it would be 60 minutes. No call back and 90 minutes later, called again and was told it would be 15 minutes. I informed the after- hours service that the collision shop closed at 12 noon. Got a call from Matt, the owner, who said they could access the car and do the work and I told him it was already authorized by the insurance company to have it done by the original collision shop. The car was not towed by 12 noon and without a doubt this was done purposely. If AAA recommends using this service, ask them for the name of a another towing company. I knew nothing about cars, and bought a '92 Volvo 240 (I know, I know); the previous owner said it probably needed a new transmission. I chose MD because I sent e-mails to several auto-repair shops with good reviews and this was the only place that responded promptly via e-mail. I brought it to MD, and they did a thorough workup and kept me in the loop with calls and e-mails--there were no surprise charges, I understood what was happening at every turn, and whenever I called they were polite, responsive and helpful in explaining what was going on with the old girl. In the end, she needed a lot more than a new transmission, but these guys got her running well and were so pleasant to deal with, and I feel like I can and will go to them with any more issues. read more

Gave false estimates to State Farm regarding time of towing. Late night dispatch was less than sympathetic. Didn't care that we had been waiting for an hour longer than their original estimate. At first they said it would be an hour. An hour later they said it would be half an hour more. After that half hour, they said another hour to an hour and a half. If you need Late Night towing, try Elite. They gave a fair estimate of arrival and were even early. read more

Car broke down on my way to work but thankfully was able to get it back in my driveway. Called AAA to have it towed, they said it would arrive between 10-11. My wife is waiting at the house for the truck to arrive. At around 1:00, my wife gets an alert that the driver is outside, but nobody was there. She responded back saying there is no one here, but it was immediately closed out as completed and there was now no way to track it. Obviously the driver (Donald) lied and claimed he picked up my car even though he didn't. We called AAA, and they called this company to send the driver back. It took almost another hour for them to come back. The driver (we're assuming it was still Donald but not sure if they sent someone else), was extremely nasty and tried to convince her to have it delivered to their shop instead of the one I requested and have been using for years. I can't speak on their repair work, but their towing is an absolute joke, and AAA should drop them immediately. If you need a tow in the Patchogue area, I would go anywhere else. read more

I have never had a worse experience with a tow company. Arranged for a tow through my roadside assistance, quoted a 40 minute time window...it's over an hour and they still haven't shown. Brusquely told that it's going to be "another 15 minutes" - not even an apology for the delay. Another 20 minutes go by, I call roadside assistance, they call MD, and I'm told that MD is claiming they are right outside my house. I look out the window, and, clearly, they are not. They finally arrive, get the car loaded onto the tow truck...and start digging through my garbage while blocking the driveway. WTF? The real horror show came the next morning when the mechanic called us to tell us that THE CAR WASN'T AT HIS SERVICE STATION. They delivered it to the wrong garage despite giving them the address and name of the service center! This towing company is unreliable, unprofessional, and can't even deliver the vehicle to the proper destination. Did not even offer a single apology for any of the tremendous hassle. read more
