Stumbled upon this repair shop while searching for someone to fix a misfire in my beloved 2007 Toyota Avalon. Matt, the owner, spent a good deal of time getting to know me and my vehicle before any work was performed. I found this both unusual and impressive. Knowing a bit about mechanical things myself I suspected it was an atypical problem, something quirky and hard to pinpoint. Having had a ton of bad experiences with auto repairs I was extremely apprehensive. I had already sifted through many that were telling me ridiculous things like I probably need my engine rebuilt, and the like. I was surprised and comforted by how willingly Matt listened and how receptive he was, as that had NOT been my experience with most other mechanics. He quickly found the problem to be a bad connection, rebuilt the connector, and the issue was resolved. They have since performed a great deal of preventive maintenance on my car. Again, Matt was more than willing to spend whatever time was necessary to help me determine what needed to be done. He asked me to leave my car during the week so it would get the time and attention it needed, paid for a rental, and provided transportation to and from the rental center. Above and beyond I'd say. The prices have been fair, I've always been kept well informed, and been charged what I'm told. More recently, Matt had his technician reset my TPMS, as the tire center I use was having trouble with it. Again, problem resolved. Moreover he refused to take any $ for the service. So, if it hasn't become evidently clear yet, I can't say enough about this local shop. Please spare yourself from the dishonesty and incompetence that lurks out there. Do you own a car? Rule #1: Get AAA coverage. Rule #2: Use a AAA authorized repair shop. Rule# 3: Don't buy a car from a friend. Rule #4: See Rule #1 & Rule # 2. Back in August of 2021, I bought a Honda Odyssey; from a friend. Within 48 hours the battery died. We called AAA, and of course they came and jumped the battery; but they broke some clips in the process and we needed a jump again to get it to the shop. Eventually we got a new battery. Which also died. Seven months later, and many AAA jump assistance from M & D's Tow Service, the culprit was the sliding door that made a ticking sound when you started the car. (The friend I bought the car from told me not to worry about the ticking sound; the door was closed.) Really, it never entirely closed and was a drain on the battery. M & D fixed the door. Battery doesn't die anymore. M & D diagnosed the necessary repairs. I had them do most of them. Rule #3: Don't buy a car from a friend. Should have expected that the car that no one drove for years, had a few wear and tear, and age related issues when I bought it. The perk is when you have AAA and use an AAA authorized dealer you get 10% off your repair bill. Rule #1: Get AAA. Don't just get the basic package. You never know when the car you are driving will suddenly break. Only the Premium covers you for those problems. Totally love the customer service! John and Chris answer the phone most often. MD Auto Repair & Towing was the closest shop i found open (late) after an Accident on Sunrise Highway on Saturday, October 14. I arrived in a daze but personnel were very understanding and made me feel at home, while did an initial examination of my car and undid some of the damage to enable the car to look better. I dropped off the car early on the following Monday and work began quickly. I had a damaged hood/left fender, smashed left headlight, and some damage under the hood. The work took slightly longer than expected due to the amount of damage as well as shipping time for parts, but an effort was made to obtain the parts quickly. When I picked up the car on Friday, i was amazed at the work done. The hood + fender were brand new with an excellent professional paint job. The left headlight and battery (previous one was damaged in crash) were both brand new, and there was zero sign of the accident that had happened. The Staff at MD were Very Understanding, Helpful, and Did a Very Thorough, Complete, and Professional Job on my Car to restore it from a very damaged vehicle to a shiny, beautiful car. I Very Highly Recommend them, Would go back to them if i'm in the area and had a problem, and I'm Very Thankful for their help following that accident. read more

Not sure why yelp Took down my first post. So lets try this again. It was Sunday on Ocean Parkway in Babylon where I broke down. Was unaware that State ONLY tow trucks can Tow you off a parkway. Was made aware of this when I called Pete from M&D auto Repair. Received a follow up call From Matt the owner...On a SUNDAY and advised me to have the car towed to Montauk Hyway 7 miles down the road. This way i wouldn't get slammed with Higher rates from state Towing. Pete called me back as well and coordinated the pickup of my car. Saved me a ton of money and stayed in contact with me most of the day. When Pete arrived he said "You had a long day; I got this." I left the keys with him and was on my way. I used M&D Auto Repair to inspect a used car that I was considering buying prior to my making the 4 hour trip to finalize the deal. I found them through AAA as a recommended repair shop. Curt, Chris and Matt were extremely pleasant and professional in guiding me through their process. Chris was particularly helpful in also arranging the appointment directly with the seller. I received an electronic report with appropriate pictures as the deliverable, along with a phone call and verbal explanation of their various concerns. At the end of process, they saved me from the trip and acquiring a car that would have posed challenges in the first year or two while not meeting my needs. The only regret is that they are not local to me. I would have used them for all my future repairs. read more

Woke up this morning with a flat tire. With the slush and my dirt driveway I didn't realize it until I was out on the street. Called AAA and MD auto repair came to change the tire for me. Joe had the patience of a saint and went above and beyond with a smile on his face despite the fact that everything that could possibly go wrong did. Right down to the spare tire rim not fitting properly. Luckily terry bros tires is a minute away. I was able to run up there with the flat tire and get it fixed in the amount of time it took to put the spare tire back in its place. Thank you Joe for everything you did. So grateful to have found such an honest mechanic. Explained everything in great detail along with showing clear pictures of what was wrong with my car prior to fixing the issues. Also, loved the fact that he went on further to educate, explain to me with patience what was a necessity to be done as well as what work could wait to be done at a later date. Also, provided me with a rental car so I was able to get around while they worked on my car. They picked up my rental car fee as well. 2014 Chrysler Town & Country: Our car was towed because it would not start. It was the starter that had too be replaced. Upon arrival in the shop we met Matt and John, two friendly gentlemen in the office. We explained that we were from out of town and needed to be at a conference by 7 p.m. The car was in, in less than two hours and we were on our way. We drove away very happy. Two other dealers said that it would take two to three weeks to get to the car because they were so backed up due to COVID-19 closings. Thank you for the great blessing! read more

So one day I'm driving my truck and suddenly it starts telling me engine shutdown and over heating, and I start to panic. Me being me, i try to figure it out. I was able to get as far as it being the PCM. Without a clue of what to do, I went to MD and it was the right decision, they confirmed my theory and new what to do and how to fix it. What impressed me the most other then it's a family business since 1978 I think was the detailed email going over what's right and what's wrong with my car. Personable and knowledgeable staff, efficient service (state inspection, finished within an hour), no excessive pressing for purchasing other services, fairly comfortable accommodations. Parking my car seemed like the only tricky part of the process, though it seems that the "road test" side parking is perfectly acceptable for pulling over before handing your car keys to the staff. I am very thankful for all the guys hard work over at MD AUTO in Patchogue. My 2003 Jeep needed many repairs. MD AUTO preformed a thorough inspection and diagnosis of the trucks issues. These guys are just total thieves matt did a nys insp. charged me full price then said he cant give me a window sticker because my windows were tinted. why wouldnt he tell me right off. funny i was there 3 mo. earlyer with my other car with tint and it passed np.i heard they are trying to get people to have them remove the tint for a high price.my next stop will be the BBB. not to mention a law suit to get my $37 back. read more

I, found myself stuck in a snow bank as I turned into my driveway! Frantic so I called roadside assistance. Within the hour M&D AUTO showed up and showed me out of a very dangerous situation!! Matt and the guys at M&D were awesome. Only got an oil change on my 1984 van, but they got me in the next day and only $75. They also give you a real cool inspection checklist text after your visit to give you the status of everything on your car and what else they recommend needs service.
