I've discovered so many Andersonville spots recently, and this is definitely a great one! I've dined here twice now on the patio and both times were really nice experiences. Firstly, the patio is dog friendly! It's fairly spacious with some nice umbrellas to keep the sun at bay. One downside though is that almost the entire patio space faintly smells of garbage. Probably because the patio backs up the kitchen and the alley out back, so between the two it can be hard to escape it. Onto the food, everything is delicious! I started with an iced coffee which was the perfect balance of creamy, sweet and coffee. For my meal, I ordered the fannie's killer fried egg sandwich. This sandwich is served on two huuuge slices of toasted sourdough and made with two over-medium eggs, applewood bacon, sliced plum tomatoes, gorgonzola, & fresh thyme, served with house potatoes. Only thing I would change is the gorgonzola since I'm not a big fan of blue cheese, but otherwise it was great! I also got a pancake on the side which was killer, as were the potatoes. Can't say I cared for the food at all, either-- completely indifferent quiche, cold in the middle, and expensive to boot. It used to be a very charming place, but I feel that's largely gone now. I moved pretty close to the area, so I'm excited to see what the Andersonville area has to offer as it is such a cool little area. We decided on this place after trying another place with too long of a wait down the street, and glad we did. The place was packed on a Sunday morning no doubt. The wait time we were quoted was only 15 minutes (or less) which was perfect! We were seated in 10! We got a two table top by the lobby on the other side of the window wall divider. This place was actually a lot bigger than I had initially realized when I walked to the bathroom. The have a whole other big room as well. Anyways, service was fairly quick overall, and I ordered the breakfast sandwich which came with potatoes and a few pieces of fruit. I liked my sandwich. I'd give it a solid 4/5, and my friend did like his meal as well. I do wish the menu was slightly bigger with some more items, but because of the quick service, good ambiance, and quick wait time... this place was a great spot for us. As many times as I've been to M. Henry--they will forever be my favorite breakfast place because I love the bliss cakes like nothing else--I've never once tried any of their pastries. A few weeks ago we decided to get breakfast to go from M. Henry because it's been so long since we'd been there (pre-pandemic). Since I ahead to go in to pick it up, and you get your to-go order at the front area, I took compass a few treats I wanted to try. It was Christmas, after all! I picked up some gingerbread men and molasses cookies. I didn't realize I liked molasses cookies. Maybe I've never had them? They are certainly pretty old fashioned, and I've rarely cooked anything with molasses let alone cookies. But they were so good, nice and chewy and not overly sweet. Definitely had made me a fan, and I'd like to find a recipe and try them out myself sometime. The gingerbread men were the best I've ever had. They weren't super fancy, just had a little icing on them, but they were perfect. I've never been a huge fan of gingerbread but these were soft (just the right amount of soft!) and had the perfect amount of spice. When I've had gingerbread in the past, it's been hard as a rock and/or either too spicy or too bland. These are the Goldilocks gingerbread cookies. I wish they had three more often; when I stopped in to get another few on New Years Eve, either I was too late or they didn't have them. They make a great companion to a cup of hot cocoa, but it just gives me something to look forward to next holiday season! read more

From the warm comfy casual ambiance to the delicious food, this is now one of my favorite brunch places in Chicago. I have been on the hunt for a good berry pancake in Chicago ever since having the signature blueberry pancakes at Clinton St. Baking Co. in NYC. I've tried pancakes at Wildberry, Yolk, Batter and Berries, and other popular brunch places here but nothing seemed to compare...but I think I found them at M Henry! It's about a 20-30 min drive from downtown Chicago but definitely worth it. As soon as we walked in, there was a crowd of people waiting for a table but to our surprise, we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table for 2. We admired the display of beautifully glazed pies while we waited. The menu includes both breakfast and lunch but I think you can skip the lunch menu and go straight for the pancakes/french toast section. We couldn't decide what to get because everything looked so good so we got the lemon raspberry brioche french toast, blueberry pancakes, and frannie's egg sandwich. The french toast was my favorite of the three: the bread was soft and thick, almost like a less dense pound cake texture. The lemon sauce was zesty and creamy and not too tart/sweet, really balanced the sweetness of the toast well. The blueberry pancakes were so fluffy and the cold mascarpone cream added a great textural element. I was a little hesitant to taste the blueberry sauce because i find most blueberry sauces at breakfast places to be too sweet and cough-syrup like tasting, but here it tasted fresh and not too rich. Highly recommend! I think it's really hard to mess up a breakfast sandwich so I was not expecting much when I took a bite of this. However, I was surprised by how elevated this tasted. Maybe it was the extra crunchy bread that mopped up all the juicy yolk from the fried egg, or the funky gorgonzola cheese that added a great depth of flavor...or the sweet fresh tomato slices that gave a nice juicy element to the dish...but this sandwich impressed me and I swear, I don't typically get impressed by breakfast sandwiches. And because 3 dishes was not enough for the two of us (LOL) we also got a peach/mango pie bc we could not stop thinking about it since we walked into the restaurant. Although initially we said we would take a few bites, we ended up finishing it because it was SO good! the crust was probably one of the best crusts I've had on a pie. it was thick and so buttery and so so good. My boyfriend and I went here this morning. One of our favorite restaurants in Andersonville. We both order iced coffees. My boyfriend had the traditional breakfast with toast. His eggs were cooked perfectly. I had fluffy pancakes with fresh fruits (strawberries and blueberries) powdered sugar and vanilla cream cheese. Our server didn't come back till we were finished. Which it's fine. The place wasn't busy for a Thursday morning compared to the weekends. The interior of the restaurant has window panes hanging like some kind of art piece. First visit back since the panini. Major let down. We used to love this place. I'm doing 3 stars to be generous because the pancakes were still good. Heres what happened-- Came back for my husbands birthday breakfast. Was a bit surprised to see no line or a even full house. Many tables empty should have cued us. Anywho we ordered chai lattes and an omelet, French toast and pancakes. The latte was mediocre. The omelet was totally bland. Mind you, this was supposed to be salmon omelet but it had next to no flavor, salt and no capers or any acidic components. Instead it was overly cheesy texture without even that cheese flavor really coming through. The cinnamon roll French toast looked gorgeous but was dry with such a bad texture it was inedible. A high school friend knew that I was coming to Chicago during Labor Day and wanted to know if there was anywhere in particular that I wanted to go. I told there that I was open to anything. She said that I being "difficult". She says this because she thinks that I, as someone, who lives in the NYC area, has very discerning tastes when it comes to food - even for a quick Sunday breakfast. "You like all of those 'cute' places." Actually, I just like good food and M.Henry ranks up there. We arrived first thing on Sunday morning as I've heard that they get quite busy on the weekends. We were seated pretty quickly and the food was out in what seemed to be a matter of seconds. I enjoyed espresso. It comes from Metropolitan Coffee - so you know that it is good. My friend had a simple drip coffee and liked it as well. Everything on the menu looked good. Since I miss midwestern cinnamon rolls (not "cinnamon buns" as they say out east), I was really leaning towards pancakes which reminded me of them (they are not on the Early Autumn menu). Instead, I opted for the mango and sour cherry blisscakes. The hotcakes were fresh, with mascarpone cream, an oat crust, and fresh cherries and mangoes. Not too sweet, but just as delicious. I honestly can't recall what my friend had. It was savory. It had chorizo. And she was quite happy with it. There is not much more to the review. Everything was fantastic. I've been telling all of my Chicago friends to head to Andersonville and enjoy this wonderful place! read more

I have heard great things about this cafe for awhile now and finally got the chance to check it out. I came with a buddy around 1PM on a Sunday and it was packed. It was about a 20 minute wait for 2 of us. Once seated, we were served quickly. I noticed how cute and quaint the cafe is, as it has a homey feel to it. the atmosphere was chaotic from first glance but once sitting down, i didn't notice it at all. To start, I got an iced tea and their blend is refreshing, as it has some spices in it to give it a nice touch. We went straight for the entres and ordered the drunken stuffed poblano pepper and the lemon shrimp and corn cake benedict. The food came pretty quick and the portions are large for both plates. The drunken stuffed poblano pepper has every key element to any great mexican breakfast dish - creamy refried beans, nicely seasoned spanish rice, scrambled eggs, chorizo (and not too greasy), roasted salsa verde, crème and a nicely roasted poblano pepper that melts in your mouth. the tortillas and plantains were a nice addition to the dish. all the elements of the dish were cooked great. My friend got the lemon shrimp and corn cake benedict and he let me have a few bites. I was very impressed with flavor packed corn cakes, as each bite left me wanting another. the hollandaise and poached eggs were both a nice consistency and cooked just right. the english muffin wasn't anything crazy but did it's job. Overall I finished my meal feeling very satisfied, as the cost to portion ratio is generous. The quality alone carrie's the value of this place. To add the friendly staff and welcoming environment makes this a wonderful place to go to breakfast / brunch with friends and family. I will be coming back to try more ! read more

Visiting in a Sunday and wait it's about 30 min, average for weekend brunch. I love that they have a seasonal menu and then offer a number of classic brunch options on their regular menu. We ordered the shrimp Benedict and bread pudding. The bread pudding was okay, it didn't have a lot of flavor and was very overall mild taste: the Benedict was good and had lots of great components, my biggest critique is they overcooked our poached egg, but the English muffin was also on the soggy side; however presentation was beautiful! This was the perfect place to start my adventure in Andersonville - very cute, quick service, and delicious food! Met up with a friend here around 10:30am on a Saturday to do brunch before hitting the area for some thrifting/antiquing. We had expected a longer wait, but we only ended up having to wait about 10-15 mins before we were seated which felt lucky! They have a cute little pastry case when you walk in, some seating in the front, and more seating in the back. It's a very cozy and homey space that feels very sunny from the yellow walls. We started with some coffees and then had such a hard time picking what we wanted because so much sounded good!! I ended up getting the rustic peasant quiche and my friend got one of their limited specials, a lox eggs benedict. Both were fantastic! The quiche was so filling and delicious and the side salad added the perfect amount of brightness and acidity to the dish. My friend the eggs were also fantastic. I appreciated that the space was a bit noisy and lively, but I understand that might not be for everyone. I also know the wait can be bad for some people but we lucked out! I got to M. Henry at 1:30pm and they close at 2. They seated me and within two minutes said I had to place my order because the kitchen is closing. I would have rather been turned away than be seated and rushed. I ordered a chai latte that came out lukewarm at best. I ordered a below mediocre $17 pancake that was cold in the middle and seemed to be sitting out as well as a sandwich with rock hard fries. The cherry on top of my bad experience was when I ordered a slice of pie to go and when I got home found mold on it. It grosses me out even more thinking about how many people were served moldy pie at that restaurant. Additionally, I'm pregnant and if I ate it would be a major health concern. I called back the next morning and shared with them that the pie was moldy and they said they are busy with other customers and call back around 2. If I ran a business I would have not prioritized serving new customers before making this issue right. I did end up getting a $6 refund on the pie but I feel like I should have been compensated a lot more for that terrible experience. It was never about the $6 just about the principal behind it. I'm pretty over brunch in general because of the homogeneous items on every brunch menu. But M.Henry is so famous near my neighborhood so still decided to give it a try. Went on a regular Friday morning at 10:30a - no line no wait and seated right away I would say it worths its fame. First of all, the menu is pretty creative. You have your typical brunch stuffs, but it's pretty unusual to find an omelette with dandelion and leek. And it's delicious. Also surprised to see Japanese souffle cake on the menu - something I crave for a lot from Asia Second of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of ingredients. Usually a mix green side salad at brunch comprises of just some sad leaves. But this one is well presented, well seasoned, very fresh with good variety. If a place treats its mix green salad seriously, you know they're good. I was also impressed by the fruits on the cake. I've never had berries that sweet and rich in flavor at a restaurant for a loooooong time. Seriously, I want to know where they source these fruits. Sadly, the souffle cake was not really what I expected. It's not bouncy enough. It's a tasty cake, but too hard for souffle. But I may still come back and order it just for the fruits. Popped by at noon on a Saturday and there was no wait because it was raining. Strong at both sweet and savory lunch. Only complaint was being clearly understaffed. I've heard about this being an issue since the beginning of the pandemic but this is the first time I really felt it. Latina Plate - 4/5. Daily special that was a version of Heuvos Rancheros, using chicken tinga mole sauce. Everything comes together well in this rich, filling dish. The mole is the star. The only negatives would be that the tortilla chips wilt and get soggy after a bit so there's a lack of texture, but there's often true for Heuvos Rancheros. I appreciate that they made an error and gave me scrambled eggs instead of poached eggs, so they proactively poached up eggs on the side and gave those when they served the plate as well. Mango Sour Cherry Bliss Cake - 4/5. Daily special. The mango got lost but the sour cherry provides a nice balance to the heaviness of the fluffy cake. read more

Everyone ordered something different, and all said theirs was delicious. We sat outside on their patio, and I recommend that if the weather allows it. I've also had a few bites of the lemon curd French toast and Latina omelette. All quality dishes, but I thought the sandwich was just OK. The omelette and pancakes were my favorite. I biked literally over 10 miles to get here, and was it worth it? Meh. My friends and I got to try wine poached pears & bostock french toast, drunken stuffed poblano pepper, blackberry bliss cakes, and a side of roasted potatoes. The french toast tasted dry and stale and the roasted potatoes were not as flavorful as other roasted potatoes I've tried. The only upside is how cute the restaurant is and how aesthetic the dishes are. The portions are also huge. We shared the 3 dishes between 4 people, and we were stuffed in the end. We came in about 30 minutes before closing, and the host was kind of mean about it and discouraged us from being seated. However, there were still a bunch of people who were just seated or just being served. This place is honestly overhyped; there are a ton of better brunch places in chicago forreals. read more
