A very authentic Chinese hotpot experience with a lovely owner. The food quality and service were top notch, but the three stars arise from the price and how it's not ayce. The portions are all small. Ambiance was nice and clean.

This is one of those Iykyk spots... like you almost don't want to say too much because it feels like a hidden gem, but it's too good not to share. M Pot is easily one of the best places for authentic Chongqing hotpot in SF! The vibe is super low-key and cozy! The owner lady is honestly the sweetest & you can tell there's a lot of care put into everything. Must order item: egg fried rice!!! I know egg fried rice at a hotpot spot?! I was skeptical the first time as well but it proved me wrong and it was the best egg fried rice I've ever had!! Also, DO NOT skip the fried pork. It's so crispy and flavorful! And all the hotpot ingredients, especially the fish fillet and meats, were super fresh and high quality. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're into Chongqing hot pot!

This place serves incredibly delicious, fresh and authentic Chongqing hotpot. I came here on a recommendation from my girlfriend who is from Chongqing and it did not disappoint! I was particularly impressed by the quality of the meat. Normally I'm not a big fan of eating hotpot outside because the quality of the meat tends to be much worse. But I think I've finally found a hot pot place that I can trust 100%. All the veggies are fresh and the shrimp paste dish is made using top quality prawns. They put a lot of effort into the other dishes as well -- fried rice is made individually per portion and not in a big pot and then reheated like many other restaurants. Top of my list for hotpot!

Amazing, authentic hot pot spot! I've tried almost every hot pot place in San Francisco, and this is easily one of my favorites. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, the broths are flavorful and well-balanced, and the owner is super warm and welcoming. What really makes this place stand out are the broths, the fresh Chinese donut, and the hand-pulled noodles. The donut was perfectly crisp and fresh, and the noodles had the ideal chewy, springy texture. I'll definitely be coming back!

It's been a minute since I have been back here because I live in the other side of the city, but coming in again honestly reminded me why I should make more trips out to the Richmond district of SF. They did a full remodel and changed up the concept, and now they are a full hot pot restaurant which I actually love even more! The place looks really clean inside with a bunch of tables that can fit up to parties of eight. They use these super fast induction burners that get the broth boiling quick and the staff stay on top of the refills so that the broth never runs dry. They had many options for soup broths from clean broths such as the fish maw and chicken or something more deep tasting like their spicy beef tallow option. Ordering was super simple, they give you a sheet and you just check off whatever you want. We focused a lot into their veggies and proteins. We ordered the nicer cuts like kobe beef and Angus prime ribeye from the Chef's Specials section. They even have those rare and super hard to find organ meats I love too, like beef tripe, goose intestines, and even duck blood, and of course we ordered them too! My brothers and I ended up ordering a bit of everything on the menu because we were all excited and not paying attention to each other. It turned into a fun eating expedition for the four of us with the common goal that nothing is to be uneaten! All the food came out fresh and presented nicely. I really enjoyed the Kobe beef ribeye too. It came out on this huge wooden board that looked like a big chopping block stacked with thin slices, and it looked crazy good when they set it down right next to me. Hot pots in groups is always a good time for me and this place definitely made the whole meal easy and enjoyable. Going to be back soon for the proteins.

Half MILD spicy + half mushroom

SUPERB QUALITY MEAT, VEG, AND SEAFOOD + WELCOMING HOSTESS After Little Sheep/Happy Lamb closed in downtown SF, we discovered the wonderful DNM Mongolian hot pot on Clement...then THAT closed! So began the search for a new, authentic hot pot restaurant. Enter M Pot! Superb quality meat, vegetables, and seafood, including MANY authentic, hard-to-find ingredients like goose intestine, duck blood, kidney slices, and brain. The hostess was extremely kind and welcoming and spoke excellent English to us non-Chinese customers. At our 2-pot table we got one pot with half medium-spicy and half pork bone broth; the other pot had mild-spicy in half and mushroom in the other. Honestly, out of these 4, I think the clear winner was the MEDIUM-spicy beef tallow broth. But I do wish it had had the same depth of flavour that the old Happy Lamb or DNM broths had. But this was compensated for by the fantastic quality and variety of the meat dishes on offer. The sauce-bar was quite complete, including my favourite of fermented red beancurd---forgot to take a photo of that, and some other dishes, though. Bottom line: HIGHLY recommend, and we will be back!

If you're looking for legit Chongqing hotpot in SF, M Pot is the spot. The meats and veggies are fresh, and their egg fried rice is the best I've had. Super friendly service from the owner too. Highly recommend!

Just checked out this hotpot place and the flavor was absolutely amazing! You can find a variety of ingredients for hotpot which is classic in China but rare finds here in the US. Honestly I haven't seen anywhere else serving bamboo mushrooms for hotpot, and gladly I find it here, and it tastes great. The base was so flavorful and the owner told us they cooked the base in house. We also really enjoyed our dessert, 冰粉and糍粑. Both business owners came from Chongqing and they brought their passion into serving customers with good food and service, they helped us clear the foam on the surface as well, which was very nostalgic to me. Excellent service with clean and cozy environment!

It honestly felt like we were ordering with a friend who just happens to know the entire menu inside and out. She gave amazing recommendations and even told us she makes the hot sauce from scratch (which... you can taste the difference). That level of care really set the tone for the whole night. Now the food... not a single miss. Seriously, not one thing we didn't like. We went with the Ultra menu ($108), which includes lobster, and it was 100% worth it. For broths, we chose the Tom Yum and Tonkotsu. Both were rich, flavorful, and perfect in completely different ways. The meat selection was incredible, especially the wagyu options, they literally melt in your mouth. You can tell the quality is top tier. The flame-torched wagyu nigiri was absolutely out of this world--perfectly balanced and paired with a wasabi powder that elevated every bite. We also had the hamachi cloud, which was so fresh, flavorful, and had the perfect crunch--such a standout dish. And the spicy clams? Easily one of our favorites. Super fresh, super tasty, and packed with flavor. Beyond the food, the entire staff made us feel genuinely welcomed, which made the experience even better. The location is perfect. It's right in the center of Japantown. Inside they have a bar where you can sit and talk with the servers face-to-face. And it's a great spot to people watch while you eat. I truly cannot recommend this place enough. Between the incredible quality, the variety, and the next-level service. The meat selections were really limited and everything that came out was just the same cut of lamb and beef in different plates. Many of their items were on the menu but not offered on their ordering iPad. The quality of meats was pretty good and I did like their hotpot flavors. The wheel of meat was gimmicky, but good for pictures. Service: 4/5 This place was pretty slow in their service. It took us about 15 minutes before our soups came out and another twenty for the meats to come. Our server explained that they were short staffed so we gave them some grace for their slow service. Ambiance: 2/5 The reason why I ranked this place so poorly was because of their health code violations. There were multiple dogs in the restaurants. They were leashed and clearly not service animals. One of the dogs was long haired and I was afraid they would be shedding everywhere. Overall, I would not recommend this place. As someone who grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, it is not easy to mess up hotpot, but I am afraid because of the dogs on this premise with the open veggie and sauce bar that I will never be back here.

This place covers many of the basics (rolls, ramen, tempura, yakisoba, teriyaki, unagi). I really only see it as a jack of all trades, but a master of none. It doesn't mean that this restaurant has no place in Japantown, but it doesn't inspire confidence when it's located in an isolated region of the mall with less foot traffic, while its competition on the other wing has lines longer than the location's capacity. Black Garlic Ramen: It's always a mystery to me how black garlic improves a bowl of ramen. My expectations, however, remain the same. How thick is the broth? How clean is the broth when consumed? What is the quality of the chashu? Do I get enough noodles? I think the best part of this meal was the amount of soup they give, and the chashu was very good. It sucks that the chashu is tiny, but they did very well. I feel that the noodles were those wholesale ramen noodles that were portioned, and the garnish was fine. The broth was okay, 3.5-ish stars in terms of taste. Dynamite Roll and Volcano Roll: I think it's a problem if I have trouble identifying which is which. I can tell you that both are good enough to try, and the Volcano Roll comes with raw fish. Both come with a good crunch and a good sauce, but like most Japanese places that lean heavily into the rolls, good luck finding out what you ordered and what you just ate. Ambiance: Very classic Japanese. They're really at their best to convince you that you're in Japan. It may get tight during a busy day though. Service: Standard. There are some items that are only one order per table - like the cooked spareribs (only three pieces too). So look for that notation on the specialty dishes area. Well we didn't need to imagine because we watched it happen in front of our faces. The party of 3 actually got their food and the other party of 2 got their side dishes before we even got our water. You literally have a Yelp waitlist to help you stay organized and all you have to do is follow it. Somehow they still managed to fuck that up. We got the premium AYCE--expecting some higher quality meat. We were deeply disappointed. The SF Cut Short rib was the saddest short rib I have ever seen. There was little to no meat on the bone. The ribeye was extremely thin. Not even a full minute of cooking on both sides and it was well done. At this point I turned the heat down to the lowest setting. The short rib bites were filled with tendons and ridiculously hard to cut much less chew. The boneless short rib and the ribeye caps were skinnier than a coke addict. 10 seconds on each side and they were basically well done. That was the end of round 1--I thought I was being hangry and grumpy so I tried to let them get their redemption. Hahaha or so I thought. We got the miso pork belly which somehow managed to burn itself on the side of the grill while the center part was still raw. I put two pieces on the grill. Clearly the meat cutter didn't know what they were doing because while one looked like it had cancer causing blackness on it the other one was still more raw than a dog. I guess they just can't cut the meat uniformly even. The beef tongue was also extremely thin and burned immediately when put on the grill. It's Korean BBQ--your restaurant and chefs don't even cook the meat. How can you not know how to cut meat properly? Not to mention paying extra for "premium" meat only to have the exact same quality as the rest of your meat. I would recommend this place to anybody who wants their Korean BBQ experience ruined. Honestly come here for your first or second time at Korean BBQ and then go somewhere else and you will be GLAD that the other place exists. YaqiniQ BBQ is by far the worst KBBQ I have been to.
