Fondue Chinoise was a very solid chinese hot pot spot. I think the broth is very good and spicy/flavorful like it should be. The waitress was super nice also and proactive in serving us. We also ordered a mango Soju and it was huge, they definitely plugged us :). The only thing is that is felt a bit more pricey than my favorite spots like Liuyishou and the new Feng hot pot. It also was more expensive for better cuts of meat. read more

Right across the street from Monroe and a bunch of strip clubs, Fondue Chinoise is a very unassuming Chinese hot pot restaurant with massive red wooden doors. We went pretty late around 8 pm and there was still 3 other parties in front of us waiting to get seated. I will say the service was extremely slow here. We saw so many tables open for all of the waiting groups and then some but there were so few people working the hall that the clean up was slow and they just didn't have the bandwidth to seat us. We repeatedly had to ask for things that we had ordered and they were often getting tables mixed up with orders. We ended up waiting almost 30 mins to get seated and then more to start eating. Till the end of the meal we were never given cups for water (they had pitchers at each table) and they also didn't refill a lot of the ingredients in the sauce bar. I don't think it was bad service though, our guy only talked to us in Chinese and we were just communicating via vibes but he was able to get us what we needed when we asked. It was just hard to get a hold of anyone to begin with The tomato broth here was super yummy. It wasn't overly oily like other hot pot places and it was a good mix of tomato flavour and the rich broth. Overall the ingredients were pretty fresh and meat quality was pretty good. read more

They have great broths (my favorites are the pork bone and spicy sichuan), and their meats and vegetables are fresh. I've been coming here for years and live nearby, but after today's experience, I don't think I'll be returning. I came in with family expecting the usual service. I understand there's new ownership -- that's totally fine. But when I went to grab my sauces, the owner stopped me and said each person could only get one bowl. I had paid $3 for unlimited sauce. He said he wasn't limiting the sauce, they just didn't have enough bowls that night, but goes on and said he sees a lot of customers wasting sauces. Respectfully, that doesn't feel like something a paying customer should have to accommodate. On top of that, the food quality has really gone downhill. The entire experience felt uncomfortable and disappointing -- almost like I was paying to get scolded. Pretty good hotpot for a decent price! Went late night with a group of friends (around 9pm) and it was fairly empty. We got seated without a wait and were able to order quickly as well. We split the tomato and pork bone broth and both were good! Lots of sauces available. Really liked the oyster and sesame sauces. Their chili oil has a big kick to it! We ordered a variety of hot pot ingredients, but I enjoyed the fried dough sticks (youtiao) and fried rice the most (although it's quite oily; it has great flavor though). Everything else was pretty standard for hotpot. All the food came out very fast and staff were very friendly and accommodating. We got the USDA Prime Angus Ribeye (smaller portion than expected but good quality meat), pork belly (one of the stars of the night, not too fatty but very tender), fish balls (pretty solid), veggie combo (decent value and variety of veggies), and a few others It ended up being even more expensive than the AYCE hot pot spot in Chinatown (this restaurant is located on the outskirts/neighboring locale), so probably will go there instead next time Ambiance was quite spacious and it definitely felt very comfortable with the high ceilings and distance across tables. Had a reservation so we were seated quickly but the restaurant was fairly packed and the wait for walkins looked pretty long. Lots of locals so you know this place is bussin. Service was great. They gave my friend some free dessert for his birthday and came around every so often to check on us. Food: Fire. Probably best hot pot I have had in the city. The broth is really tasty and you could definitely taste the quality of the meat. Also really enjoyed the potato slice, which I haven't had at any other hot pot venues.
