Food is pretty good! I'm very surprised that you can actually taste the broth on your food (iykyk, sometimes the food tastes like nothing after being cooked). I like the fatty beef toro. Broth wise, I like Miso 》Sukiyaki 》Spicy 》Tom Yum, but they are all good. Also, usually hotpot places only let you pick one or two broth. You get FOUR here! Service is fast, order on iPad, and food comes within 3 min. Make your own dipping sauce at the sauce table. I'm just sad we came in late, seated at 8:20pm but last order at 8:45pm. Some friends and coworkers of mine chose to grab dinner at Boiling Hot Pot after work! We chose this spot to suit different dietary needs and palate interests. There were six of us, and I came early to put my name down, but to my surprise, there wasn't a wait! The restaurant is super warm and steamy inside. Some people had their glasses fog up, haha. Luckily, we were sitting in the back part of the restaurant. It's pretty spacious, with tables on both the front and the back, suitable for all party sizes, while the back focuses on booths. They also have a sauce bar in the front. Ordering is done on the tablet, and items arrive quite quickly! We came for dinner, which was AYCE. Most of the people I came with had never had hot pot, so I was the designated cook and also ordered everything. They enjoyed their experience, but I was definitely busy and didn't get to appreciate everything fully! What I did have was good meat-wise. Not the best quality, but suitable for options and AYCE. After a day of thrifting we ended up at this gem. Today was my first time and I will most definitely be going back. We got there a few minutes after opening (5pm) and service was quick and efficient. The menu may have fewer selections than some hot pot restaurants but it is still satisfying for a reasonable price. We've been coming here for years, so our most recent visit was unexpectedly disappointing. Service was still swift and friendly but the food... Meat quality has noticeably gone downhill. The "wagyu" beef had no marbling -- it was extremely lean, tough, and dry even with a short cooking time. The shrimp used to be the highlight of the meal. They had heads on and was juicy and fresh, now it's half the size with no heads, couldn't taste any sweetness or flavor for that matter. The overall selection also felt more limited. The manager casually mentioned that the restaurant recently changed ownership in May, and today was her last day. That honestly explained why everything felt different -- unfortunately, not for the better. The most shocking part of the experience was overhearing a staff member ask the manager whether they should keep uneaten food from this table that just left. Didn't hear the manager's response, but What?! I sincerely hope this has never been standard practice all these years. Absolutely speechless. To top it all off, partner and I both had stomach ache hours later, which prompted this review necessary for other yelpers as a warning. We decided to give this place a try and we definitely love it and we will definitely come back!!!! The staffs are great!! They are very attentive and always checking in with us. This is probably one of the best AYCE hot pot places I've been to and maybe the best if we're taking the price into consideration as well! At $36 per person, you get to pick 4 soups and eat as much as you want for 90 minutes. I find that for AYCE places, service can be a bit slow, but here, they're SO FAST. Every time we would place a new order on the tablet, the server would show up to our table with our items in less than a minute. They were consistent with refilling our water and taking away empty plates too so we never felt like our table was overcrowded. Amazing service for an AYCE place! They have a good selection of soups (green pepper is my favorite!!) and wide variety of different meats, veggies, and other items. Their sauce bar has items you typically wouldn't see at other places such as their green chili sauce and mushroom sauce (my favorites). The layout of the restaurant is a bit odd as there is a primary dining area in the front but also a "back" area where you have to walk past the kitchen. It can be a bit inconvenient to sit in the back since you have to walk past the busy kitchen entrance to get to the sauces. I actually came here after learning that this is actually a sister restaurant to Mumu Hot Pot! Mumu had gotten rid of the green pepper soup base but I discovered that Boiling Hot Pot has the broth still and is the "original" Mumu. The sauces and broth selections are nearly identical. Even though I was dining alone, the all-you-can-eat price was the same and I was able to choose either two or 4 soup bases. The AYCE menu includes eight different kinds of meat, with five of them being beef or lamb. I don't usually eat pork or chicken at hotpot, so I focused on the beef and lamb options. The meat quality was surprisingly good for an AYCE place--freshly sliced, not frozen solid or soggy, and served at just the right texture. Everything looked like high-quality cuts, and the flavor came through after cooking. I didn't try beef toro because that looks very fatty. Beer beef has a pretty good taste, but slightly fatter than others. My best is house special beef, which has a nice balance of fat and flavor. Ordering is done through an iPad on the wall, which is really convenient. Once I placed my order, the dishes arrived very quickly--usually within two minutes. We got the tom yum, miso, spicy and tomato broth. My favorite was the miso and my family's favorite was the tom yum with the tomato as a close second. The spicy broth was the least favorite as we all felt it lacked flavor, but I did add some of the broth to my miso broth which paired nicely. They had an ipad on the wall next to the table so it was great being able to put in consistent orders of meat and veggies without calling over the server. Our new favorite hot pot in SF! This is the only place I have been to that gives you four different types of soups. We have to put in order ourselves on the ipad (or whatever it is that's mounted on the wall). Whatever soup you pick first comes in the middle and you get the least amount. We decided on the tom yum soup, miso soup, pork soup, and sukiyaki soup. My favorite was the miso soup. Pork soup was really bland and we didn't really like it. Tom yum soup didn't really taste like tom yum soup. Our least favorite was the sukiyaki one because it was way too sweet. I love how easy it is to order stuff on your own! You don't have to try to get the server's attention and even if you need to, they are always there to help you. They gave a lot of options to pick from: many types of meat, seafood, vegetables, sides, etc. I wish they included the drinks in the AYCE like other places. First of all, you get 4 different broths compared to most places that only offer 1-2 different ones. That in itself was already a lot for me. Then as you place your order the portions are small but since it's all you can eat, all you gotta do is keep ordering more. There is more seating than it appears to have since there is a whole back area. The booths in the back area are quite large and can seat a lot of people. Servers are quick with the water refill and do a good job on checking in. Once an order is placed on the tablet, it comes out pretty quickly too. It's a small-ish restaurant but feels very cozy--they had a Berkeley football game on the TV and some tables were closely watching so it felt quite lively. In my opinion, the perfect AYCE restaurant should have a few things: - high throughput of dish ordering: Usually, this is how these unlimited restaurants get you by rate limiting how much you can eat at once. We ordered quite a few dishes (max was something like 4-6 meats for the table), and within less than 5 minutes, our food was on the table. This was consistent throughout the entire night, despite more than 75% of tables being filled. - High quality ingredients: All the meats were super tender, especially the pork belly and the lamb. There's quite a variety of broths that you can select (our table had the choice of 8 different broths sectioned off in quadrants), but my favorites were the miso and the Tom Yum. So many veggies to order as well, and I found the enoki mushrooms and A choy to be yummy.
