    3. Yellow Eel & Chinese Sausage 黄鳝腊味煲仔饭

Quick and friendly service - plenty of seating! Tea and soup upon sitting. - Yellow eel and Chinese sausage clay pot : great flavors and size of pot! The rice around the bowl was crispy. Had some pork meats as well. Nice ratio of meats to rice

This was my first foray into Taishan cuisine and I have to say I'm a fan! The claypots were all delicious but I loved the yellow eel the most. It isn't anything like unagi (more soft, and tender) rather it had a certain bouncy bite that was addictive. The chicken pieces were so tender and had that velveted texture that I love. The house combo was good, but a little salty. I liked the spare ribs a lot, but the duck was mostly just bones. The pea sprouts are off menu I suspect because they just cook up whatever choy is in season. So these were tender and flavorful with a hefty amount of whole garlic cloves. Each claypot serves 1.5 people, so 2 was perfect for our group of three. Each pot has a thick layer of crispy rice at the bottom which is the best part! The service was fast and friendly and they gave us a free soup to start. A fantastic cold weather meal!

A few of us were in the area and looking at what to eat, and clay pot crossed our mind as we drove on past. We entered and got seated right away, it was an earlier Friday night so the place was not that crowded, a few patrons and delivery drivers coming in and out, but the ambiance was nice, they had your typical Chinese music playing on the TV, while the chefs cooked up the meals in the back, and the customers just chatting away. The 3 of us decided to order some items that were recommended, and went with the Salted Patty and fish, Spare ribs, and Eel and Chinese sausage clay pots. They came out surprisingly faster then we had imagined, knowing how long they usually take from videos, but I'd imagine they had them probably ready to go and needed to add the final touches of the ingredients. I actually enjoyed each of them, my friends felt the Pork Spare ribs were good, but I personally enjoyed the Salted fish and Eel + Chinese Sausage combo, maybe because it reminded me of home. There were some other items I wanted to try out, and I'll likely come back and give them a go next time!

Came here with my brothers for some clay pot action at dinnertime. We were seated right away and presented with a simple, straightforward menu with all the usual clay pot options. The place had plenty of tables inside and was clean. Service was quick, and the staff were attentive. For clay pots, we ordered the Taishan yellow eel, preserved Chinese sausage with pork and duck, and the homemade lamb stew. Everything came out piping hot, as it should, with a lot of rice at the bottom. As soon as we started eating, we noticed the rice was getting too dry. Usually, we are able to pour a little more of that savory soy sauce for your liking, but none was given, so it quickly became dry and hard. Luckily, they do give you some in-house soup, which was a clear meat broth with some chinese bean curds. We used the soup to mix it in, so that the rice was more manageable to eat. The eggplant we ordered also helped out since it was more soupy than braised, which turned out to be a blessing. Even though the clay pots we had leaned a little dry and the meat portions were light, the flavors were still satisfying once the rice was mixed with the complementary soup.

Came to Claypot House with some friends for dinner, and we were seated right away upon arrival. The service was great and the food came out quickly. We ordered 3 claypots to share and they were decently priced. What I liked most was the jalapeno soy sauce, which gave everything a little kick. It is a small restaurant in the Richmond, and overall it was a good and quick option if you are craving Chinese food. Great casual spot to eat with friends or family!

Our clay pots were delicious (salted fish with diced chicken, and house special lamb stew), with perfectly crusty rice. We like spice, so added a little of their pickled peppers and pickle juice to our clay pots. The pea sprouts we ordered (off menu) were tender, with a little garlic. Appreciated the free tea and soup. Service was friendly and efficient. Basic tables and dinnerware made it feel even more authentic.

My family and I have been coming here for years, and we always enjoy our meals. Everything we order is consistently flavorful, and I especially appreciate the soy marinated jalapenos they have on each table. A drizzle of their spicy soy sauce in each clay pot dish is so tasty! Since I love spice, I usually grab a piece of marinated jalapeno with almost every bite. We've never had any complaints; everything has been solid and consistent with each visit. It's also a nice bonus that they provide free soup to customers. I've honestly never seen this place completely packed, so they only have about 2-3 people working, but they get the job done efficiently. The interior isn't modern, but it adds to the charm. I guess it's true what they say, "the more run-down spots often have the best food" haha.

It's been so cold here that I started craving claypot rice. We came over and got a pot of steaming hot claypot rice with spareribs and various preserved meats. The rice on the bottom was slightly crispy but not burnt--perfect. My hubby doesn't like the preserved meats so he opted for the steamed spareribs rice instead and this is steamed inside a piece of lotus leaf. A very good option and I may follow next time. This meal came with two very hot (paper) bowls of house soup filled with pieces of winter melons and carrots. Service was quick and polite. Located on Clement and 11th Ave.

Nostalgic and authentic! Really filled my claypot craving, and will return for some traditional canto herbal canto soups. They had plenty of soups on the menu that my mom made for me growing up. Pretty quiet on a Thursday night. Many Chinese elders were in to enjoy dinner, which is a great sign on the food quality. We enjoyed the yellow eel and Chinese sausage pot and the sausage, duck, preserved meats, and fish fillet pot. One claypot was crispier than the other and had more rice crust. The restaurant gave us complimentary soups which I enjoyed a lot. I think there is either a secret menu or just on request to order sautéed veggie greens because some tables around us ordered different plates of greens but I didn't see it on the menu. Lots of traditional Chinese desserts on the menu which were tempting, but we were too stuffed to order any dessert. Good spot!

Hole in the wall chinese restaurant focusing on clay pot rice. Very generous portions of meat compared to other clay pots I've tried but it's also a little more pricey side. Atmosphere is average and it's generally not too full. Today we tried the House Special Combination and Spareribs and Preserved Chinese Sausage Clay Pots. We also ordered the Taisan Duck. The House Special includes yellow eel which is a Chinese delicacy in the Taisan Province. Taste a little like small cuts of fish. I enjoyed the Spareribs and Preserved Chinese Sausage the most. One of the most important tests of a good clay pot is the crispy rice at the bottom on the pot. For this I would say it's above average. The most disappointing dish was the Taisan Duck which consists of a soy based braised duck with taro in a clay pot. A lot of duck bones and not enough duck meat. You also get a complimentary bowl of soup since it does take a little while for the clay pot to come out

tldr hole in the wall neighborhood spot specialized in serving clay pot rice dishes with friendly staff each pot comes with a good serving of chinese melon soup and enough to feed two people! the soup itself was really warming and had good flavor of chicken we ordered the chicken with dried mushroom cla pot rice that came out really hot and fresh. the chicken was really tender and flavorful with mushroom flavor as dried mushroom typically have that. they use basic lee kum kee soy sauce and i wish they would create a sweeter/ richer type of soy sauce typically given for this dish! the dish also had the perfect crispy rice texture on the bottom of the pot which was perfectly not burnt (a signature good sign of this dish) the plates were a bit dirty and restaurant itself is pretty old but services was friendly and fast. they give complementary tea too. overall i would come back again if i had a big craving for this dish! it was really affordable too. food 3.75/5 service 4/5 ambiance 2/5 value 4/5

My favourite spot to get clay pot rice in the city. The signature preserved meat clay pot is what I like to get. Get a nice crispy layer of rice at the bottom and love to top it off with the jalapeño sweet soy they have at the table. Food comes out surprisingly quick for the rice which is a bonus

Taishan restaurants have had a resurgence in San Francisco the past few years, with the Taishan yellow eel claypot being a big feature. The Claypot House is, like most restaurants in the area, homey and modest, with a solid crowd, and service that could be from your grandfather or elderly uncle. Food is a mixed bag. Snow pea fritters were super weird, ended up being edamame that was seasoned and pan fried? The lettuce was iceberg, seasoned and sauteed, straight up OG Taishan-style. The house special pork belly clay pot and preserved vegetable resulted in a very soft pork belly and a very strong, salty preserved vegetable-- get this with a side of white rice if you want it to be edible as it doesn't come with rice. The actual clay pot rice's themselves were better, the ground pork and salted fish was not a very salty fish but again straight up from a Taishan kitchen. The eel/chicken/lopcheng was very good, with the eel that's popular (beware of bones), but the real star of the show was the pai gut (pork spareribs with black bean sauce) claypot rice, which was excellent. It's not a bad place but it felt like their competitors mean you have to be on you A-game all the time.

Menu is relatively the same as Dumpling Home featuring my faves like the numb and spicy XLB and the sheng jian bao. Both very delicious! The remainder of the dishes we got were also good. Every thing was as good as the last. They have a pretty extensive menu I wanted to try it all. Sadly I had to settle for Hot and Sour Soup, Wonton soup, Pork Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, Chicken Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, (8Pcs) Pork Dumpling with Sesame Sauce and Red Chili Oil (6Pcs), Numb & spicy pork Bao, Green Onion Pancake, (Sweet) Red Bean Paste Pockets. We had it family style. The 3 of us shared it all. There was plenty to go around. None of us left hungry. I can't even pick a favorite. Maybe the numb and spicy which wasn't that spicy. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed. It wasn't listed on the menu and we have never had seaweed in any other wonton soup so didn't know to ask if it could be left out. That was sad. All she could do was have a tiny spoon of the broth to taste it. The green onion pancake was very good. The red bean paste pockets use the same dough but filled with sweet red bean paste. They were a perfect way to end the meal. Next time I'm in the city I will visit again. Loved it all. It was worth taking the time to visit and eat there.

The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. Just head up the stairs and you'll find it inside the old Ichi Pub space. The restaurant is small and intimate, with only 9 seats at the counter. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Since it's located in Japantown, parking can be challenging. We had to loop around several times looking for street parking and even had two cars take spots we were waiting for, so definitely give yourself extra time before your reservation. I would highly recommend this place! The chef changes the menu periodically based on what's in season, so it's a great excuse to come back and try something new in the future. We decided to explore the nearby area and found this Thai restaurant with outdoor seating, which was perfect for us and our dog. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the menu was intriguing. We ordered the Thai spicy egg noodle soup, green papaya salad, and Thai drunken noodles with seafood. Each dish was delicious, but the spicy noodle soup stood out as our favorite--one of the best noodle soups we've had in a while. To conclude our meal, we ordered the Thai coconut milk dessert, Ka-nom-tuay, served in a little porcelain cup. It was equally delightful. My husband and I were so impressed with the food that we're already planning our next visit. Highly recommended!

It's been a while since I traveled through Southeast Asia, but memories of Bangkok's legendary…read morestreet food still linger. The aroma of sizzling skewers over charcoal grills and soothing fragrance of lemongrass, Thai basil, and kaffir lime leaves drifting through the warm evening air. The rhythmic clatter of woks, the organized chaos of street vendors creating unforgettable meals from kitchens no bigger than a parking space. Oh...how I've longed to go back. And then, while walking the streets of San Francisco...I stumbled upon Bangkok Street Thai Street Food. No passport. No jet lag....Just an empty stomach and a healthy appetite. Our meal began with the Chicken Satay, and what a way to start. The chicken was beautifully grilled, tender, and lightly charred around the edges. But the real star was the silky peanut sauce paired with the bright cucumber relish. Rich, nutty, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced with a refreshing crunch, it was the kind of appetizer that makes everyone at the table quietly reach for "just one more skewer." Next came the Green Curry. One thing I appreciate is that they let you choose your own level of heat. Whether you prefer a gentle warmth or a full Thai spice adventure, the kitchen happily accommodates. Beneath the spice was a wonderfully creamy coconut curry layered with fresh herbs and deep aromatic flavors that made every spoonful comforting yet vibrant. Then came the dish no Thai meal should ever be without...Pad Thai. Simple on paper, difficult to master and Bangkok Street gets it right. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly--not too soft, not too firm--and coated in a beautifully balanced tamarind sauce that delivered the ideal combination of sweetness, acidity, and savory depth. Every bite kept inviting the next, to the point where ordering a second plate actually seemed like a perfectly reasonable life decision. Somewhere between the satay, the curry, and the Pad Thai...something unexpected happened. We completely forgot to take pictures! Not one. No overhead food shots. No "wait, don't touch it yet" moments. No social media evidence that we were ever there. That's usually the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. When the food is so good that everyone forgets about their phones, you know the kitchen has everyone's full attention. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But the flavors at Bangkok Street Thai Street Food create a culinary memory that lasts far longer than anything saved to your camera roll. Overall: 4 stars. Fresh ingredients, beautifully balanced flavors, thoughtful spice levels, and comforting Thai classics prepared with care. From the outstanding Chicken Satay and fragrant Green Curry to a Pad Thai that showcases the magic of a well-crafted tamarind sauce, Bangkok Street Thai Street Food captures the spirit of Bangkok one delicious plate at a time. Come hungry...and Go Big!!!
