Some of the best food I've had in Boston, possibly the best French food in Boston. Came here on a whim and was so happy to get a reservation, it's a very intimate space but we felt comfortable at our table. Food was superb from top to bottom and was also mostly gluten free which was a nice surprise for the gluten free member of our party. Very meat forward menu but extremely reasonable price for the quality and service. I was pleasantly surprised. Highly highly recommend for a nice dinner in basically the center of town within walking distance of the common

Ma Maison is a small cosy French restaurant on Cambridge Street. We liked the decor. I ordered the lamb with mashed potatoes & gravy and my friend ordered the Chicken Coq Au Vin with buttered noodles. We shared Crepes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with an overly sweet syrup. I would skip that and order a different dessert next time. The tables are very close together and the restroom is tiny and the door is heavy. I had an Aperol spritz and my friend had white wine. The wait staff was fine. We didn't feel rushed at all. We enjoyed our visit there. It was different than the restaurants we usually go to.

That Tuesday soufflé... darn is that GOOD! This place is 5/5 again. The one note is that my mom's pasta that came with her meal did stick together as if it hadn't been tousled when being cooked. After she had everything else, even my difficult to impress mom LOVED this place. Generous portions, brilliant flavor, excellent service and a wonderful selection all contribute to this being one of Boston's absolute gems. Will be back.

Hubby and I love you she had previously cheese soufflé and steak, which is the special on Tuesday night. She highly recommended it. She was right. She and I tried both. And it really was excellent. When eating steak you must dip it into the gravy at the very bottom of the container. Makes a big difference. We started with the lobster bisque which was split. It was nice and two bites of lobster in the soup, though not my favorite lobster fish, which is up to seafood in Salem. It was very nice and very good flavor. I ordered the chicken thigh with noodles and it was good. But not great and I wouldn't order it again. It is a very large portion and I was able to get two more meals from it. It was good, but not great. Hubby order the scallops, which were excellent and I would recommend them. That will be my order next visit. The dessert was spectacular. Hubby got the three scoops of sorbet and I had a giant profiterole which was quite large and really excellent. The only criticism I could have is that rather than a chocolate I'd rather be a thicker fudge type of topping. Our waiter was very good and very helpful, and able to remove all the dishes in one trip which was amazing also amazing was the warm bread to start out a nice Italian bread it was a big hit. This is a very small romantic place, and our table was quite small. We sat right next to the door. It was lovely. And definitely a special place. I would definitely return even though they didn't get the full 5 stars from me.

Managed to get same day reservations and this place did not disappoint. We were very happy with the food and the prices were very reasonable. The drinks were strong but worth the price so I would recommend the place. The server was attentive and the decor had a French feel.

Cozy French restaurant. We were in the mood for French onion soup. The soup has a very light broth. Full of onions, cheese and bread. Very good! Salad had a delicious dressing. We will be back.

The service is excellent, and each course of our meal was delicious. Right when we walked in, we felt like we were back in Paris.

The restaurant is a lovely little ode to downtown Boston with its charming little dining room, prep area in the back, and little bathroom with a super heavy door. The lunch service was very attentive. I got the salad with panko fried goat cheese and the lobster bisque. The salad, dressing, and fried cheese were vibrant and refreshing. The lobster bisque was decent but needed to be hotter and lacked a bit of flavor. Overall it was a great experience and I definitely recommend stopping in for lunch.

Phone didn't eat first clearly (oops!). We all started with a capuchino and it was SO delicious and rich. Loved the presentation of the coffee. All of the waiters and waitresses were very professional and friendly and call everyone Monsieur or Madame which was a great detail for a french restaurant. What we ordered: Everything was 5/5 Organic Cheeseburger: this was a THICK burger but the quality was astounding and it wasn't heavy and didn't make me bloated after eating the entire thing in 5 mins (oops) Spanish Chorizo Omelette: Salty, slightly spicy, rich omelette Smoked Salmon Crossaint: Super yummy and light

What needs to be said first? It's between two considerations: 1) the ridiculous value offered or 2) the best "I want world class services, but without the pretension" staff. It's hard to pick between the two. The value encompasses how damned good the food is, the latter brings with it how you feel after the meal. Maybe I'll figure out as the review gets typed, but from the top, I'm not able to choose between the two. Let's talk ambiance: it's a small, intimate dining room. It's French: any surprise there? The dining room is warm and cozy but not cramped. The waitstaff extremely knowledgeable about the bill of fair without any semblance of pretension while remarkably efficient and attentive. They know how the dishes are prepared and how to tweak their recommendations accordingly given your whim. Even if the food was subpar, a meal would still feel good. But the food isn't subpar. It's simple, rich, savory, and depthy. You know, French. I'm no aficionado regarding French food- where I've lived the majority of my life offers BBQ as a delicacy and 'fried' as a standard. Regardless, to someone of my sensibility, this is French as phenomenal. That said, food: the escargot and foie gras. There's not much that needs to be done to in order to make either exceptional. A slight accent and proficient preparation begets tastebud orgasm. Yep, said it. I'm not your huckleberry when it comes to rabbit food, though the dressing on the salad was refreshing, the greens very fresh, and the panko crusted goat cheese a wonderful accompaniment. A nice parlay before the clash of the meal. Let's get down to the get down: duck and beef. The short rib was spot on perfect when it came to texture. Acidity from the wine allowed the savor to simmer to the top of the bite, the fat having been extracted and seeped into the muscle. The jus should be offered as a digestif. Excellent. The duck, well this is where things get surreal. Cooked with attention towards contrast in texture, the subtle undertones of sweet from the blood orange eschewed the gaminess from consideration while keeping the distinctive duckiness of the fowl in present at the front and back of the bite. The sauce became unnecessary; I used it as a dip, and only sparingly so. The Brussels were very simple, a light dusting of cheese went perfectly with the remarkably delicate texture (for Brussels)- they held together without having any pushback, crunch, or fibrous resolve. Often duck leaves me underwhelmed- there's so much that can be done with it, but few rarely attend to each variable. Ma Maison's presentation accentuated contrasts: moist with crisp, sweet with earthy (I'm not going to say 'gamey'), light with heavy. There's savoring a dish one bite at a time, allowing the taste to permeate and reveal itself in an interlude while sensing the texture (yada, yada); this is somewhere far above that. Get a croquette to sop up whatever jus is hanging around. The French onion soup had excellent taste, but wasn't quite as thick or as savory as I had had elsewhere in Boston. On the one hand, I get it; no need to present a wallop of a dish that early in the meal, but, on the other hand, I had my elastic waisted pants on (figuratively and maybe spiritually). All told, no deductions. On this trip, best meal while in Beantown. Go there. Enjoy. If Rissa is your server, you'll be treated to an experience par excellence.

A cute and classic French bistro right in the heart of Boston. Everything we had was delicious and the portions were just right. We were celebrating a birthday and they made us feel so special - complimentary bubbly and dessert. The menu had great variety and they have daily specials. The giant profiterole is actually giant and can reliably be shared by a group. Looking forward to coming back and trying more!

All the yummy escargot!! Took my boyfriend here to celebrate his bday and we had an amazing dinner with all the bells and whistles. The restaurant is super cute and intimate. I really like the silver dishes and plates hanging on the walls and the cute snail figurines that are spread thought-out the restaurant. Since it was a special occasion we decided to get a whole bottle of French wine to share. It was very good and at a reasonable price! We wanted some appetizers and the very nice and attentive waiter suggested their butternut squash soup and we went with that. We were also super curios about the escargot in the menu because neither of us had never tried it and decided to go for it. We also wanted a small salad to share and they had a few to choose from. The soup was amazing! It was super creamy and buttery and rich and it really hit the spot especially on that rainy night. But the escargot! OMG! so good! They were literal bombs of garlic and butter in my mouth! I could of eaten a bucket of them! I would definitely get them again especially at a French restaurant. For our entrees we ordered the duck liver and duck breast. Both were very good and came with hearty sides. To close out the night we each got a coffee and since the restaurant knew it was my boyfriends bday they brought out a slice of delicious cake with a candle for him which was so nice! We will definite be treating ourselves to Ma Maison's again.

If you're looking for a place that does classic French cuisine with care and consistency, this is it. They know how to cook a steak perfectly--flavorful, tender, and exactly how you order it. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with just enough variety to keep things interesting without overwhelming you. One highlight that really stands out is the flavored champagne. It's a fun, unexpected touch that elevates the whole experience--refreshing and just the right balance of sweetness. And whatever you do, don't skip dessert. The Grand Marnier soufflé is a showstopper: light, fluffy, with that warm, boozy orange flavor that hits all the right notes. It's the perfect way to end the evening. The space itself is on the smaller side, so it feels more intimate than your typical restaurant--almost like dining in someone's upscale home. It can get a little tight, especially during peak hours, but that's part of the charm. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you're not familiar with the area. Street parking is limited, so I'd suggest heading straight for the paid lot a few blocks away--it's worth it for a smoother experience. Whether you're out for a romantic date night, celebrating something special, or just want a great meal in a cozy setting, Ma Maison delivers. It's one of those places you'll find yourself recommending again and again.

People recently wondered why Boston got nearly entirely shut out by the Michelin people (only 1…read moreone-star was given); among the places that were said to be in the running was Amar, located in a lovely space in the Raffles Hotel. We have been there twice, and I now will put my brief review. The take-home: if Boston, Raffles, and Amar think they deserve a star, they really need to up their game. I will get one thing out of the way very quickly: the food is spectacular and the wine service was excellent; these are not the reason for my comment. The simple truth folks is that a dining experience is not JUST about the food. It's about ambiance--which includes service and atmosphere, and that is where Amar just falls apart. It would be wrong to not recognize that the individual servers were quite nice and attentive. We had an 830 pm seating--hardly late in most cities, though one might suggest that in Boston that is on the later side (it really isn't folks). Regardless, by 1030-11 pm, the dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night. At that moment, a server came over to us to alert us the kitchen was closing--which was obviously them saying "get out"--but soon thereafter the smell of cleaning fluid filled the air, and we realized there was a person cleaning the tables--with a cleaning cart, complete with mops, brooms, and cleaning fluid in the middle of the dining room. While people were seated and eating. This is a restaurant with a pricey menu and wine list, and I cannot remember a time when dining in a fine restaurant when something like this EVER happened. We found it funny at first, but while trying to eat our dessert and drink our final cocktails the smell of ammonia really ruined the final experience. In the end, once served with the bill, it was not funny. The bill was around $1000 for 4 people including a nice bottle of wine. So: expensive, nice individual service, good food. But the lack of awareness about how diners paying for an expensive meal feel being rushed, and then the utterly ludicrous presence of a cleaning cart in the middle of the dining room while people were still eating (I posted a photo) makes Amar a laughable memory but nowhere I'd go back to.

Mushroom Toast: The texture was rubbery, and the flavor was completely drowned out by an aggressive amount of balsamic. Beets: Had a very overwhelming cumin flavor that threw the dish out of balance. No, you only gain a clear picture of what a culture is all about when things go sideways, so you can see how everyone comes together to turn things around...or not. Several months ago, I had a less-than satisfactory evening at Grill 23 that was significantly disappointing, both for myself and for several associates who I had invited to celebrate a win. There's no need to dwell on the details, as the goal here is to look through the big piece of glass (the windshield) rather than through the small one (the rearview mirror). Suffice to say that I had no intention of returning and made that clear in written communication. What happened next belongs in a Harvard Business School case study titled "Turning it Around with Excellence." Within relatively short order, I was contacted by Johan Mola, Grill 23's Assistant General Manager. What an impressive young man, one who has clearly benefited from a top-notch upbringing, high-quality professional development and wisdom that he has accumulated through his own intelligence. Johan's communication exuded sincerity and empathy. He was a great listener who never once cut me off. He singlehandedly transformed my frame of mind from one that was slammed shut, to one that was open to giving Grill 23 another chance. It happened that when he reached out, I was in Asia for a month. Over that month, Johan periodically checked in via WhatsApp, just to reassure me that he had no intention of letting the matter go. He was masterful, but it was his authenticity above all that made him so. Fast forward to last night, when I returned to Grill 23 with my wife, hopeful but still apprehensive; I needn't have been. Johan greeted us at the door, effortlessly made us feel at ease, and escorted us to our table. During the meal, he checked in several times, always in an easy, unobtrusive way that just said "I'm here for you guys, whatever it is that you may need." The waiter assigned to us (Garrett) was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for a better person to take care of us. His service was seamless without ever feeling excessive, more like a hospitable friend serving us an incredible dinner at his home. We were also visited by the Director of Operations, Gary Tummings. He made us feel valued and special, it was appreciated. All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable restaurant experiences we've ever had. Of course, the food must be mentioned, because it was flawless! We started with a dozen Cape Cod oysters, the Foie Gras and the Beet Salad, all impeccably presented and delicious. We then welcomed the restaurants two signature steaks, the Porterhouse and the Tomahawk. Both were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the flavor of each cut was nothing short of world class. The sides (carrots, asparagus and French fries) were all excellent as well, both in preparation and presentation. For dessert we had the coconut cake, which was mouthwatering, and a portion so generous that we had enough for seconds the next day. In short, the fare that we experienced last night was on another level...we absolutely will be back soon. I want to once again thank Assistant General Manager Johan Mola for everything he did to "right the ship" and to provide us with a truly memorable evening. All's well that ends well. Finally, I want to give a shoutout to Philip, the parking valet for the restaurant. We had talked prior and following the first experience and he immediately recognized me over two months later. What sets him apart is that he obviously cares deeply about the restaurant that he works for and the patrons who dine there. A really great, genuine human...I'm grateful for his concern, and my wife appreciated him keeping her dry under an umbrella on a raw and nasty night, all the way to our vehicle! Thank you to all, DC
