They offer a typical Chinese American menu, decent prices, and I find that the food comes out slightly quicker and tastier if you're dining in compared to taking out. David, the server, is very nice! We were craving Chinese food and decided to pick some up at MA's where we always had good experience. Ordered Chicken Chow Mei, Black Pepper Shrimp with Mushrooms, MA's Short Ribs and Steamed Rice. The order was ready in good time. Food was plentiful and will last us a few meals. Shrimp was the best. Chow mein was good but lacking umami. Could use some flavor. Their signature dish, the short ribs, was a huge disappointment. Tough, chewy, almost inedible. Was tempted to call them to ask for a refund. At $23.95,it was the most Expensive dish. A new name on a business that's been around for awhile in other locations. Pleasant atmosphere, very friendly staff, a huge menu, including lunch specials, in an area with ample parking. That being said, the food was just okay. Not offensive, but also not something which would draw us back time and again. The hot and sour soup was tasty but too salty for our sakes. The rice was perfectly cooked, a plus in any Chinese restaurant. The noodles in the Chou mein were only average, with something a bit off with them, maybe the cooking oil or added sesame oil. Tofu in brown sauce was well prepared, not drowning in sauce, as so many restaurants make it. Delicate, thinly sliced tofu was easy to eat and held its own as a leftover. Nothing about Ma's would make us stay away, but it is also not likely to become a go-to destination. read more

Nice new local restaurant with excellent service! The only thing that I didn't realize is that it's a halal restaurant which means that they don't use any pork. We ordered the three flavors wonton soup, thinking it was similar to War wonton soup (including BBQ pork). Since they don't use pork in their dishes, it didn't include the BBQ pork. I missed that flavor, but the soup was still good. Nice big serving, maybe a little skimpy on the wontons. We also shared a green onion pancake. It was nothing special. Ordered from Ma's for my birthday dinner. It was not ready within the time quoted, but the understandable. What was not understandable was what followed. I was really disappointed with my experience at Ma's in Poway, mainly due to customer service and food quality. There was an issue with their card reader when I paid--my bank showed the charge went through, but their machine didn't register it. Instead of calmly working through the situation, I was spoken down to and made to feel like I had done something wrong. Even got an eye roll from the host. The interaction was humiliating and left me feeling misunderstood and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the experience. When I got home, the duck was dry, the beef rolls had a pasty texture, and the egg corn soup was slimy and overly gelatinous--far beyond what's typical or enjoyable for that kind of soup. The only dish that was well-cooked and tasty was the broccoli, but it was priced the same as a main entrée, which felt unreasonable. Between the dismissive customer service and the poor food quality, this was not an enjoyable visit. I was really hoping for better. So much for a nice birthday dinner. read more

It had a light and crispy outside, and the ship were perfectly cooked on the inside. Usually the sauce is very mainly, but it was light and tasty. No one came to check after our food was delivered to see if everything was ok and even when the full plate was pushed to the side and we asked for the bill still no one asked if the food had been alright.
