Went to check out this place, and overall, we had a great experience! The food was served quickly and everything we ordered was really good except for the pork and onion bun. That was the only item we didn't enjoy. The bun had way more dough than filling, and the amount of filling inside was smaller than a spaghetti meatball. The milk tea was also way too sugary for my taste, so it's not something I would order again. Other than those two items, everything else was great! The place was clean and had plenty of seating, which is always a must when you're a family of six, the server was very attentive. Stopped by on a Tuesday for an early dinner around 4pm or so. It was perfect time for me since I did not have to wait for a table. Spacious yet quaint. The gentleman took my order and brought my food out promptly. I didn't get his name but he made the experience even better. He has a nice personality. There was a man outside picking up trash and the employee greeted him, thanked him, and said please wait and brought him a drink. It's nice to see these kinds of moment happen! Came here after we went to another neighborhood favorite was closed. Wasn't sure what to expect but thought we'd give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised. Started with some appetizers, potstickers and popcorn chicken and I thoroughly enjoyed each dish. Having eaten popcorn chicken at other dumpling restaurants, the pieces are sometimes pretty small and get lost in all the breading. These were good. Potstickers tasted good as well. For our entrees, we ordered the Seafood Dumpling Soup and Walnut Shrimp. The walnut shrimp had the right amount of sauce and tasted good. We also shared a Beef Roll, which was good. Shopping center can get pretty busy on the weekend with other restaurants, retail, and gym but the parking lot is big enough to be able to find a good space. The orange soda was nice, yes, it's from a bottle, but it's a fairly unique flavor I haven't had elsewhere. The mapo tofu though. Absolutely the most flavorful mapo tofu I've had ANYWHERE. This stuff was like 2 steps below a climax, but in my mouth and tongue. I couldn't stop eating it. I took it home to eat later, but unfortunately warming it up in the microwave kills a bit of the flavor; it was still very good though. But fresh at restaurant itself? My god. The two ladies working when we were there were really nice and friendly. This place was busy with people coming in to order take out or dining in. It had a lot of good reviews but I thought the food was ok. I love Singapore noodles and theirs was too wet and a little on the plain side. We did like the onion pancake and the spicy wontons. Their hot'n'sour soup was good too. The xiao long bao was brought out in the steamer without a plate underneath. The dumplings were stuck to the paper or each other so when you lifted it out of the steamer, it ripped and leaked all the soup onto the table. What a disappointment. And the wrapping was too thick and doughy. I wouldn't recommend ordering those. The egg custard buns were not good either. We took a bite and it was gritty and powdery inside. Chinese Breakfast Review!! (We have yet to try the non breakfast menu) My family has been missing quality Chinese breakfast. There were so many homestyle options that got my family SO excited - we ordered 10 items for the 5 of us. Popular hits were the duck blood soup, sticky rice shumai, and of course cruller (youtiao) with soymilk (we opted for the salty). The congee was on the thinner side for our preference, but it still hit the spot for us, especially paired with the perfectly crispy youtiao/cruller. As for next time, we will probably skip the shenjianbao (not as much filling as we'd like) and change the ingredients in the bing). Service was fantastic, attentive, and very helpful! We mentioned this to the restaurant and they said the dishes were meant to be eaten with rice, not alone but I wholeheartedly believe that it would be too salty even with rice. AND dishes like the noodles were too salty as well (and ppl don't usually eat noodles with rice). I was also put off by the pushy/mandatory tip. All three were good and decent portion. I'm glad neither of the dishes were too salty. The fish dish is meant to be spicy and good thing it was not too spicy. Modern decor with contemporary music. Taste: 1. Soymilk- lightly sweetened. "Hot" was more like luke warm. Not sure if homemade or not, since I did watch them pour it out of a half-gallon grocery store jug. I don't think many places make it from scratch, but you're buying convenience. 2. Fried donut- size is acceptable. Lightly salted. Inside could be fluffier. But overall not bad. 3. Pork rice roll- filling includes porksung, pickled radish, sausage, salted egg white and a very- crispy fried donut! Rice is plain but the filling is flavorful. My first time visiting Joyee's Dumpling House in Poway and I really enjoyed it! I had visited the 4S Ranch location previously. While this is a small chain of about 5 restaurants I belive Poway might be their OG location. I don't know. I was really impressed by the friendliness and hospitality of the staff here. All the dishes I ordered were thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Especially my Popcorn Chicken, creatively served on a round shovel blade. The restaurant is spacious and clean. I usually visit during the afternoon when the family emerges from the kitchen and shares a meal together. I always like seeing that. One of the cooks even complimented my chopstick skills from afar.
