This is your classic neighborhood cafe with a welcoming and friendly vibe. It's easy to become a regular here. I like that they make their own seasonal special drinks. I recently tried their Ballard Fog, their take on a London Fog, but with local Zen Dog Earl Grey tea and their own house made Secret Garden syrup. It was a floral and fragrant version that I quite enjoyed. It's a good spot to meet folks for meetings but be aware they close at 3pm. read more

We stopped by to recharge with some coffee. It's a local spot tucked away in a residential area. Street parking was free, and the staff were super friendly. There's plenty of seating, which was nice. They had a seasonal coffee menu, and I tried the salty honey lavender mocha--so good! I was surprised to see bulletproof coffee on the menu too, it was my first time seeing that at a café. This was a cute little shop! They have a big seating area in the back with lots of options from armchairs to regular tables. The staff were very polite and attentive. I asked for their recommendation between 2-3 drinks and they gave me a well thought out but honest recommendation. The chai I had was pretty good but not well stirred and they didn't have any stir sticks on hand so that was the only real negative. I noticed they had area AC machines and fans, so it was a bit warmer in there. I picked a spot by the door AC and fan so I was fine to sit and read for a bit. This is the cozy neighborhood coffee shop you have been looking for! Close to the heart of Ballard, but not so close as to feel overrun. The coffee is good and all, and there are some tasty bites, but honestly, I am in it for the ambiance. I am always chasing the 90s style coffee shops of my youth and they are few and far between. This isn't exactly that but there's a nice large room with plenty of seating and even some armchairs! It's a very pleasant place to read or catch up with a pal. And it's a very warm, neighborhood vibe in there. Staff have all been friendly and efficient. My only gripe is that I wish it was open later but alas, this is a problem in all coffee shops in Seattle since COVID it seems. read more

I've passed Mabel a few times and always wanted to stop in! I had the chance to both get take out coffee and stay and have coffee over the past week and both experiences were pleasant. For take out, the coffees both tasted great and was around $8 for 2 lattes, which I thought was a great price for Seattle. When I dined in, latte was still good, so it's consistent, and there was plenty of seating on a Saturday afternoon. They also had a lot of outlets, which was nice to see. I didn't get a chance to check out the food in the fridge, but they had some great breakfast tacos options on their menu I'll have to try. The pastry case was basically empty by 12pm, so keep that in mind! Lastly, parking was easy in this area, so I'll definitely be back. Becoming my go to coffee shop. Such delightful ambience and always lovely staff. They've got a rather rich menu to choose from too, I've only recently been trying their smoothies, but typically love a coffee with a breakfast taco or slice of cake. They have a large back tool full of various seats (high, low, sofa, padded, dining table, arm chairs) and a bunch of games - and the biggest advertising wall for local events and businesses that never isn't fun to peruse. I like going to Rosellini's for baked goods. I'd walk by Mabel on my way home and I have been curious so I decided to stop by one day. The staff are nice and I was pleasantly surprised at the big space in the back of the coffee shop. The room included a good amount of seating of different styles with good lighting. I thought the seating area is evenly spaced out so that you don't feel crammed. There is also a community board where you can find out what's going on around the neighborhood. The coffee is also great and I'd love to bring a friend here to hang out one day. read more

Just moved into a new place near loyal heights and hadn't un boxed my coffee pot so I decided to walk the dog and grab a cup of joe at a local spot. I found Mabel via Yelp and it was just what I needed. I got a 16 oz drip, they had 2 different options and I went for the medium. A nice touch that I liked is that they have a jar that you can put cash in to get a drip if the line is busy. I will be back! read more

Love this spot enough that almost didn't want to promote it so I can have all my favorite seats for myself ;). I love that they play vinyl music here. Part of what's prompting me to finally write a review of this place is they're playing Amy Winehouse today and it's so good. Oh also the coffee is good! I love me a lavender latte here and they have hemp milk thank God. I have to have an alternate milks and I hate the flavor and consistency of other alt milks. I think it is the owner- Brunette woman.. The minute you walk in with a dog.. she is right on you.."We do not allow pets.. only service dogs". I have been in several times and always the same.. She loudly yells it from behind the counter! She must not be from PNW and is obviously not a dog lover. It is a cute place and on my way to the water.. great oatmeal cookies! But she is just such a buzz kill- jumps on you right away.. Poor customer service skills... I have ordered and take it to go.. but I am not giving Mabel's my money any more!! It is Seattle... Round 2 of my Yelp post...lost the original one via my smart phone while I was there. So much for being in the moment! Yesterday I had checked out a newish place in Bryant, this morning I was going to revisit Café Besalu in Loyal Heights/Ballard. But when I saw that darn long line, I ended up u-turning to check out Mabel on 70th and 24th instead. Sorry James! Along this stretch of 24th NW, the neighborhood residents are so fortunate since there are at least three veteran bakery/cafes and two new additions spread out every 5 to 10 blocks, one includes the month and a half old, Mabel. Mabel is a cute, sun-filled corner spot where the interior was fairly well thought out. It comes across as inviting and established with lots of visual points of interest. A plus for me was the pile of vinyl and turntable by the entrance, which while I was there was playing tunes by the Bee Gees. Limited seating, but had a steady stream of folks coming in, even with the four legged variety, like Hazel the pug! There's also the RV Room, which is a terrific business/neighborhood addition...go to their website to learn more in detail. Featured pastries are from Queen Anne's Le Reve of which I selected a pain au chocolat, bacon gruyere croissant, and a gingerbread slice to bring home to the still sleeping family. It becoming another warm morning, I also got a 16 ounce iced mocha. While I was writing the earlier Yelp post, I was kindly given a sample of the Bulletproof coffee, created by some Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Usually I gravitate to Pacific NW roasters, but totally open to trying something new. Essentially it was drip coffee enhanced with butter and coconut oil. There's also one with extra protein boosted with collagen. However to me that just sounds like coffee with hair or facial products. Anyways, the sample was okay, but I'd rather have an Ethiopian ground drip with cream and sugar then handed a strip of bacon instead. But that's me. One thing though, do not drink this followed by a swig of an iced mocha....that left an undesirable after taste. Friendly baristas/counter staff, welcoming interior, nicely arranged baked goods, decent coffee (and learned about Bulletproof), and the RV Room. Great find! read more

I had a really positive experience the first time I came here, but this second time, the barista was not very friendly. Also, why is getting a splash of soy or almond milk into your coffee $1? A lot of places don't even charge for soy milk anymore. It seems ridiculous to charge that much for alternative milks. This place is a cute tucked away coffee shop that you could easily pass by if you were not looking closely enough. I went here for the first time a few days ago and, the energy the place is very calming. The people who works here are very kind and very knowledgeable to answer questions you may have. It is a great place to come and do work as there as a sprawling back area where a lot of people are reading books are on their laptops. And it is also place where well-behaved dogs and well behaved kids are welcome! At first glance the menu appears to have all of the regular options, but as you looked deeper you notice there's so much more. From their smoothies which are made with more than just one or two ingredients, and with ingredients that you might think so only see at a juice bar, is really nice. The first thing I tried was there pumpkin spice latte which while I'm not a big pumpkin spice person because I think most of the time it's just using syrups, they use real pumpkin here and, I've had lattes have used real pumpkin before, and this is a top contender Comet you can almost taste the pumpkin seeds( I even remember mentioning that to them as soon as I tasted it . I also got their superfood Elixir smoothie with bone broth collagen which was quite tasty. I will definitely be back! read more

The latte was good, but I'd like to try more of their products. I work close to Mabel and that's how I stopped by the first time around - I can't say I'd heard of it before. I'd really like to get a chance to try their famous bulletproof coffee, so I'll likely update this review once that happens. Other than the coffee, I liked the atmosphere. It's right on the street, but it wasn't noisy inside, and there was plenty of seating space to occupy with or without a laptop. I saw some supplies to keep kiddos busy as well, which was a nice touch. The interior was bright and prices were typical for Seattle, whereas service was prompt and the baristas polite. Quaint coffee shop, quite a few blocks from where I live but wanted to check it out. Not a big space, but lots of natural lighting and good coffee. I went with the flight, three four ounce tastes of the coffee they were serving that day you just serve yourself out of the airpots. My favorite coffeehouse. Actually probably the only one. The Essential Bakery in Madison Valley, well, I regret saying whatever it was that I said it was. Mabel: So San Francisco! It has character: the interior furnishings, the lay-out. The staff were disarmingly laid-back but not perky, shrill, dipthong-enamoured, linguistically deprived American. The counter person did not trot out "awesome" five times in the course of her two minute conversation. Had she lived in the U.K. 30 years ago? No, she actually probably hadn't been every born then. (Sometimes I think that the most distinctive thing about Americans is the direct proportionality between (A) their superficiality and insistence that they are really awesome, mistaken for self-confidence in these states and (B) the loudness and exaggerated affective public displays. No wonder the need for ever increasing decibel levels and speed: it's an effective means denying how hollow and boring these people's lives actually are. (Thoreau, of course, made the same point a century and a half ago). So...such a relief to find this oddity. Even the name was atypical. A decent iced coffee, too. Unfortunately, Seattle with its glut of generic Starbuck's and Tully's is the victim of its penchant for mindless conformity and self-hype. But will it last...before the denizens of "cool" and Seattle purveys of it (The Stranger, The Seattle Weekly) descend on it and ruin things? * * * * * Luckily, I happened upon this coffeehouse before that has happened. When i walked into Mabel this morning for the second time ever and in one week to develop a solid opinion about this sweet little neighborhood coffee shop, I passed a young girl who appeared to be a nanny, with her charge and stepped into what I assumed was the line as it did not appear she was in line and there was just her, the baby, myself, and two older women ahead of me in the shop. The two women ordered, and when I was about to step to the counter the cashier with flippy bangs addressed the cool lookin nanny to say it was her turn. No problem! I did not realize she was in line, I explained. The nanny and cashier have a lovely encounter, tralala compliments compliments, a nice interaction. She ordered, we all moved on. Then it's my turn and the cashier addresses me so opposite that I feel like I'm being punished for not realizing the young nanny was in line... get over it, no harm was done... the cashier asks me what I want and I begin to explain I'd like an Iced 16 oz. triple shot almond milk latte with one pump vanilla and caramel drizzle. I say it slowly because while I by no means assume what someone is or is not capable of, my order was more words than say a 12 oz. almond milk latte, and I expect she'll write it down on the cup or tap it out on the iPad as I say it. She just looks at me as I say it relatively slowly the first time...and then acts like I'm inconveniencing her as she grabs the cup and asks me to repeat myself so she can do her job and write it down. Coffee is good, the amount of almond milk to ice ratio is quite generous but that kind of micro attitude especially after being chipper and extroverted with the customers before, and as I witness after, me seems a bit off. Be kind. I get the service industry has a million things to be upset or annoyed about but I just wanted my morning coffee without the side of petulance. read more

It says pet friendly on the internet and even at the door. The second I come I I'm told to leave my dog either outside or on the carpet. This is not what pet friendly means. I am autistic and have a clearly signed service animal!! I turned around and left, stuff like this is just rude and unprofessional. Don't put on your page you're dog friendly when you're literally making people turn around and leave. Uugh just rude... I'm autistic and people just making up rules how ever they go, very frustrating and also can mess up a disabled persons whole life. Do better or say that you don't want pets in your shop. I love this place! I walked in and was greeted with much warmth & friendliness. This little gem is tucked in Loyal Heights N'hood in Ballard. The Latté was wonderful rich espresso and silky smooth milk froth and the perfect temperature to enjoy the natural sweetness of the steamed milk. Absolutely.... DELICIOUS! I chose the harvest squash bread that is delivered daily from Macrina Bakery so much variety of nutty texture, yum and enormous healthy portion. Mabel's is a community based espresso shop that is unique. The back area past the order counter is a huge room with added seating that folks can actually spread out to study or chill for a bit. On street parking and KC Metro #40 route bus stop is 1/2 block. Plenty of on street parking in a safe area. If, you've ever walked or driven past Mabel's, you're definitely missing out. It's a simple and easy going tone. I believe they are a dog friendly business as I saw a few patrons bring their pooch inside and the baristas were friendly socializing with them. read more
