I'm not big on leaving reviews but I was really surprised by MAC today. First off I've shopped here before and it wasn't this bad and I usually buy my MAC from Nordstrom so I am used to excellent customer service and my normal MAC girls. I walked in to grab something my store was sold out of and received NO help. 3 SA were around and didn't even bother to say a thing to me, sooo I went ahead and just got in line, thankfully Melissa walked by and asked if I was waiting for something or had a question. She grabbed what I needed with no hassle. Just know when customers come in, at least say something... Next time I'll just order from my regular store. 1/4 or 5 SAs there were rude. read more

If i could give them ZERO stars I would. The customer service at this location is HORRIBLE! Now I know why I shop at Nordstroms for my MAC products. After not being acknowleged or helped within minutes of walking into the store, some trannie looking lady decided she would help me. Maybe its because I was brining in my recycles for a new lipgloss, but still you could be nice to ppl. She was pushey and rude. I had asked for Viva Glam 5, and she insisted they don't give those away. I know for a fact this isn't true because all my recycles were 5 and I haven't bought one in a while. I always trade them in for 5. Whatever, fine, give me a new shade then. She picked out some ok color but of course it was a lipstick and not a lipgloss like I asked. She didn't pay attention to a damn thing I said. After looking around for other colors, she came up and asked rudely, "so are you gonna get that."? I almost wanted to smake her. I was going to buy something when i walked in the store, but I didn't bother after I got stuck with her because there was no way in hell I would give her commission, credit, whatever. Then, to top things off I walk to the register as she is blabbing about Viva Glam 5 and its charity donations and that is why they don't give it away. I know its charity. But the kicker was, she stepped on my niece, or basically ran ito her, and turned around and gave MY 11yr old niece a look like SHE was in HER way. No sorry, excuse me, nothing. Even my niece thought she was rude! WHAT A BITCH!! At the end of the transaction, she rudely says, "you know you can't return or exchange these"? What part of shut up, give me my stuff, and let me go and wirte this bad review on you do you not understand. Ya, I am familiar with the policy. Thanks. I have been doing the recycles for years now. I work in the mall, so I go into many of the stores pretty often on breaks and such. The makeup at MAC is amazing, I love it, but every time I go into the store (literally EVERY TIME) I'm ignored for a good ten minutes. I've even purposely tried to look confused to see if anyone would help, but nothing. The people *are* nice, at least the ones who do end up helping me. My advice? Go to the MAC counter in Nordstrom. Same selection of cosmetics, but the girls who work there are SUPER nice, no joke. They are always helpful. read more

I just shopped for the first time at this location .... had to buy an angled powder brush but easily could have been upsold more since I lost my whole collection... The store was well staffed but pretty messy (not that it bothered me so much since it was Labor Day) but I guess I got the unlucky draw of getting the most apathetic and underwhelming sales girl on deck. Not only did she give me "yes/no" answers to most my questions, she literally looked over and around me (perhaps to people watch??) while I was trying to ask about other products. I work in a boutique store as well, so I usually prefer to patronize these shops instead of the department store. Perhaps my salesperson works here just to get unlimited reapplications of opalescent eye powder, because she certainly was not a good salesperson, or wanted my business. So silly... i want to give this place a good review because i love mac make up so much but customer service wise...blah. everytime i come here it's super busy which is a good thing i suppose but lately my experience here has been mehhh..i usually come in and an employee would greet me or ask me if i need help to let her/him know but my past couple of visit, would walk in and it's like pulling teeth to get an employee to stop and help you. i understand they have other customers to help, which i'm happy to wait as long as i've been ACKNOWLEDGED. but now i don't even get a single hi, eye contact or smile?! you would think that since they are probably working on commission that they would be eagered to help. i think i'm going to start going to nordstrom to get my staple items. atleast, there i feel like i'm spending my money at a store that will appreciate my business. read more

ive been a loyal fan of MAC years & im reviewing this particular store location which is why its not a perfect score. i have received a lot of helpful & prompt service from the staff many times, yet im not surprised to read the other reviews on here about the continuous poor service it seems many of us get here. trust me i get if its overly packed in the store with customers & im sure all those working wish they could escape...yet for such a successful makeup brand, i wish they had the high class staff to back it up here. it seems as if SHOWING a judgement on their face of the customers who walk in is a norm. there has been numerous occasions where i see staff laughing with one another while im standing 4ft away from them waiting to be checked out. not all is like this of couse, a lot have come up to me when they could with a smile & the help i needed. read more

i love this store there is someone to great you as soon as you walk in to help you out with choice of color and application.

I always give this store a chance, but they continue to have poor customer service. They practically ignore you half of the time, you have to hunt a consultant down and even then they take forever to get back to you. Many times I see the workers walking around not even helping a customer and talking to one another when customers are in there seeking help. Whenever I look into that store, half of the time customers aren't greeted. I know there is a few ladies that have been helpful but most of the time many of them are not. They even gave my friend the wrong color powder and lied saying that it was the right one but it clearly was not, it was way to dark. I don't know what the problem is but I hope they step it up. The staff in this store are amazing. I walked in mid-day Thursday after getting the stink eye from Sephora employees and was greeted by Jessica and some other ladies. I told them my fiance and I were about to get married in this quick thing downtown, had gotten my hair done already, but wanted to find at the very least a foundation that matches my skin better than the things I've bought online. I explained that I'd really just started to get into make up over the past few months, but I really don't know what I'm doing. I already felt super self-conscious and nervous walking into these stores, but the staff here were very welcoming and understanding. Jessica, who mentioned she typically works in a MAC location in SF, did a whole look for me without an appointment, and it turned out beautifully. She gave me lots of tips, matched my foundation perfectly, and overall made me feel a lot better after being treated so horribly in Sephora. I am NEVER going back to MAC to get my makeup done by so called "makeup artists" again! I have had my makeup done 3 times so far at MAC and to be honest the first time was actually 6 years ago with a girl named Natasha and she did a great job. But after that, the 2 other times were HORRIBLE!!!! About 3 days ago, I went to MAC for my makeup appointment that I had set up 3 weeks in advance. I showed up on time and ready for my appointment since I also had a hair appointment right after. I told them that I was there for my makeup appointment and I still had to wait 7mins before anyone started applying makeup on me. The girl who actually did my makeup was trying to help another customer out when she first started on me so I sat there for another 7 mins.....wasting time! THEN she comes back and says, "do you mind that I help out other customers while I do your makeup if you aren't on a time crunch?" I was like I AM ON a time crunch....I have a hair appointment right after. (WTH??) (hello? I made an APPOINTMENT!) SO, she starts doing my makeup and the eyeliner that she used was smearing all over my lids and I told her that I didn't like brown eyeshadow and I wanted a black and berry colored eyeshadow. SHE ENDED up using brown and the eyeliner was messed up, I told her to fix it but she just added black eyeshadow on top of the smeared eyeliner on my lids! WTH? THEN she put liquid eyeliner with two LONG tails at the end of my lids....IT LOOKED HORRIBLE! (Don't get me wrong, but the tail does look good if you do it right) I told her to take it off and she did....but at that point I was LATE for my hair appt, frustrated and annoyed! AND the funny thing is, she thinks she's a really good makeup artist, telling me how she went to a great makeup school in socal and blah blah blah...I really should have taken a picture and posted it up because it looked like a 3 year old put makeup on my face!!! So, I ended up buying $50 worth of MAC makeup, running back home to take off ALL the makeup, then I did my OWN makeup (which was wayyyy better than what that SO CALLED makeup artist did), missing my hair appt, and being late for the wedding. what the hell happened to all the REAL makeup artists at mac that was there 5 years ago????? BY THE WAY her name is francine, RUN for your life if you end up with her for your makeup appointment or else you will end up looking like a 3-year old did your makeup!!!!!! You are better off doing your own makeup! I wouldn't have given them 1 star but this was such a horrible experience that I had to let everyone know that their makeup artists are not as good as they were 5 years ago! read more

I remember this place used to have great customer service and excellent makeup artists. I guess that is the good old days. My recent experience made me regret to visit the store. Do not waist your money for the full face makeup. $50 I should have thrown in the garbage. Take your business to Macy's at least you will get products for the money spent. I love make up, I have a really good amount of collection at home and one of my favorite brand is Mac. The only problem is when i visit a Mac store to purchase something and that's when my impression changes, for the most part their artists are not so friendly, not helpful and some of them are even mean! But when I stop by to the Mac store in Valley Fair San Jose, Ca, It was Anne who helped me my impression shifted. She seems like she doesn't belong there because she was way to nice. She ven introduce herself and asked for my name, then she started calling me with my name, we imemdiately bonded! I trusted her with all my hear toe very single question I have. She is knowledgable about the products, not so pushy nor annoying. She is herself which made me really like her! From now on I will call first if she is working to make an appointment with her. I LOVE this MAC store. Every time I go into the store I get great service (even when they are busy). I am almost 52 years old and though many think that I am in my late 30's or early 40's, I still feel very subconscious about dark circles and bags under my eyes. I had surgery to help my eyes but I feel the surgery made it worse so I am even MORE self conscious. I've tried different make up products from concealers to foundations (from MAC, Sephora, Benefits & Urban Decay) and though I LOVE ALL of MAC's products, I just wasn't finding the right concealer because some how my skin under my eye changed after surgery. I went to MAC 01/02/17 and a AMAZING young woman named Angela (she is Filipino ..I am saying because I didn't get her last name and there are 2 Angela's who work at this MAC store). Angela was so sincere and such a wonderful person. Her compliments to me were sincere and not only that, she helped me FINALLY find the concealor that gives me the coverage that I feel I need. I LOVE the set she advised me to get (Pro Conceal and Correct Palette/Medium) and feel so much better about myself. I love going to this store because the majority of the time I get kind and knowledgeable employees who are there to help. 5 stars for the gal that helped me at the front desk, who I totally didn't get her name. She's a slim white girl super pretty with flawless makeup. Anyways, came here to get my makeup did for my birthday. Got recommended to set up an appt. with Harrison. He was okay, I mean I'm pretty picky since I'm an artist myself. P.S. I came here because I was too lazy to do my makeup that day. So as we finished I noticed that my upper lip's lipstick wasn't even. I explained to him and he "tried" to fix it but it still was off. I know its hard taking criticism sometimes, but I mean when it comes to satisfying a customer and it being his or her birthday you should really be accommodating. Not everybody's taste are the same, which is perfectly normal, not hating. I also wanted some deeper contouring and he said he did enough which I didn't quiet see. After that I felt a little uncomfortable even to mention anymore. Overall, from this experience and the results I probably could've done a better job on my makeup. ......hhhmmmmmm and I'm wondering if I should realy be that nice. I really love the make up here. the eyeshadows are something out of this world. The gloss the colors the brushes ah so much to love. When I walk into a store I don't like to be greeted and I don't like to be asked if I need help because if I did need help than I would ask for it. I really just like to do my own thing and not be approached and I must say I really like this about the store but overall I don't think it makes it ok to be a total stiff. Sometimes I look pretty ordinary when I go to the mall but it doesnt mean I don't have "Daddy's money to spend". I notice that every time I walk into the store they only greet customers who look like them and that freakin bothers me. if they are going to provide shitty service to one person than they really shouldn't make it obvious by licking an other customer's asshole. Mac at the Macy's Mall in Eastridge provides way better customer service. I always drop atleast $50 there and it's only becaue the people are so nice I feel I should buy something and this is the East side I'm talking about. I tend to reward customer service. I'm really big on that. Who would of known that the skinny li'l' dark skinned no make-up chick acttually bought make-up. I originally was planning on coming here to update my make-up bag. Being 29 just moving from the islands into the fast paced trendy Silicon Valley (in the winter) has thrown me for a HUGE loop. I found out from a co-worker that there's a such thing as "winter hair". ehh?! Instead I had an interview at an acting agency so I wanted to look presentable. I wanted them to give me some tips but also do my make-up. I called 2 days before & they said they were booked since it was Halloween weekend. The next day I called again & wALa! they had an opening at the perfect time i needed. BUT u needed to buy $75 worth of product. A few years ago it was $40. I didn't mind since I was planning on improving my look. When i got there no one greeted me. I waited at the cash register behind someone else. A nice "stock" lady from the back finally asked if I needed help. She looked up my appointment & said she would pass me on to Sarah who was going to do my make-up. I saw Sarah when I walked in writing some stuff while everyone else was either behind a register or helping a customer. interesting. When I was introduced to her she was kind of oblivious that I was her client. She said let me see whose taking care of you. Oh! It's me. Umm..I knew that already. That's what the other lady had said. I told her my dilemma & she did my make-up wonderfully. She made me look like a superstar!! HOWEVER i told her that i used a lot of gloss & naturals since coming from the islands. I want a change. She used the same lipstick on me as she did on herself. The eye shadows she gave me looked a lot like her shades. I was perplexed. She did go over a few tips which helped me some. They used to use face wipes & moisturize your face but I don't remember her touching my face..EVER. When I had told her I wanted to participate in the Viva Glam cause she didn't really let me try on the colors before doing my make-up. She put the shade on my hand AFTER. So I couldn't try it on. Thank God I capped out my $75 & had to put it back. What if I didn't like that particular shade? When she was putting my lashes on the right one was kinda off since she was talking to a co-worker. There was a guy there though that was super sweet. Maybe he should have done my make-up. When I was paying she answered the phone. When I left she was still on the phone & gave me the nod..ok thanks. Umm..alrite. The sweet guy was busy but gave me alohas. Overall it was nice having new make-up. I just wish it would have been a bit more personal. And for a semi-claustrophic girl..that's saying A LOT! read more

I went into this Mac store on Wednesday around lunchtime. I was immediately helped by a beautiful blond woman who I believe was the manager, who set me up with one of the makeup artists immediately. Jay helped me, and she was absolutely awesome. She helped me choose the right colors, offered tips on what types of brushes to use for different items, and was genuinely sweet and helpful. Never felt pressured to buy anything, and picked up some great new items. I was very pleased with the service and will definitely go back because of it. read more

I really like Mac products for their simplicity and consistency in quality, and I always want to buy everything in the store. But the customer service is so, so bad. Every time I come here, someone is quick to ask me if I need something and when I make a request, I stand around waiting for 15+ minutes. I understand that there are lots of other customers, but how long can it possibly take to get a paint pot?? Reading other yelp reviews, I guess I've had better experiences than a lot of other people just by being asked if I needed anything, but that doesn't justify their half-hearted "help". We just got badly insulted in this store today inspire of buying their cosmetics in that store. We bought products for $65 and in a minute back their to purchase brush for my wife. We approached the same lady who helped us to buy earlier product. She got the brush to cash counter and informed us the price for purchase. As it was bit unaffordable we decided to drop he idea of purchasing. The same lady literally threw those brushes in front of us with disrespect. If it can be thrown like why would you guys even charge us $75 for that? So you will respect customers who will purchase from you? The service here is SO bad, and the makeup ladies ignore you if you don't wear as much makeup as them. I used to use Mac's moisture concealer, and it's pretty good, but now I just go to Sephora (in Valley Fair) instead because the ladies there are way more helpful. Or if I really need a product from Mac, I'll go to the Mac counter in Nordstrom because at least the ladies there aren't as rude as the ones in the actual Mac Cosmetics store. read more

I love Ann. She is wonderful and gorgeous! I've heard more than enough comments on how horrible the artists can be at this store, but I took a chance today. I musta lucked out because today I walked in with zero makeup on my face. I only wanted to get the Studio Tech. I walked away with more than 100 dollars worth of stuff, all of which I love and do not regret buying. I'm still testing out how the foundation stays on my face at the end of the day. After application, it looked reallyyyy good, Ann told me to use a light hand and apply in areas where I need coverage. She was above and beyond any customer service I expect, especially at MAC. She knows Asians features and she knows exactly what she's doing, so knowledgeable with the products, really takes into consideration what the clients wants, the look, the skin type, everything. I wanted to purchase everything she put on me, but i didnt have 400 dollars to spend on makeup so she just wrote down the ones i'll be getting in the future. Gave me excellent and usefull tips on how i can define my eyes and everything... i Love that girl, she even gave me a hug!!! super sweet, she should get employee of the year or something or a big bonus. she was not pushy, impatient, or rude like how other yelpers said of the artists at that store! This place is only good if you know what you want and that is all you came here for. I do prefer this location rather then the one at Nordstrom Rack in the same mall. The only problem is you may catch yourself waiting around for someone to help you. I do all of my window shopping online and then when i get there i already know what i want. dont come here during weekends. i come here on weekdays when it is slow and quiet. read more

Ok SO I SHOP HERE ALLLLLLL the time. i love their products. Although everytime i go there all employees reccomend different shades of foundation for me. Which IS BAD because the first lady at this store that helped me out gave me the ugliest color. it was orange and it didn't match my skin tone at all. The second time i went there a chick insulted e and suggested i should stop using mac because my skin was braking out. The third time i went there i still recieved the wrong shade of foundation.. i think i spent at least 600 dollars on the wrong foundation colors . and then one day a nice guy names jesus helped me . he got me the right skin tone...... I was surprised because he knew more about makeup then ALL of the women who helped me. he solved my problem and i continue shopping there . so my suggestion for mac customers at valley fair... before you PURCHASE SOMETHING make sure its your correct shade Because people at mac mixed my colors with someone elses bags... and i got the wrong shade... they are always busy.. thats one thing i dont really like . sometimes i end up waiting a good 15 minutes to even be helped with one product. read more

This store has very poor customer service. The associates will not greet you when you come in the store unless you ask them first. They will put makeup on you and you are required to buy $50 worth. I love MAC makeup, but with poor customer service I might switch to another brand. read more

I walked in on a whim, and was shortly seated and being helped by one of the excellent artists. She worked with me to create a beautiful look, gave me wonderful service, and didn't once make me feel rushed or pressured to buy more than I was comfortable with. It was fairly busy, and all the employees were working hard to make sure that everyone who came into the store received quality assistance. I will definitely be returning to this store! read more

I went to THREE different MAC locations after calling & asking an associate to put the Light Boost Highlighting pen on hold for me. All three times I was told they had it in stock and had it on hold, and ALL three times they didn't have it! I drove from San Jose, CA to Modesto, CA, an hour and a half drive (disappointed), back to San Jose Valley Fair mall (disappointed again) and to Eastridge mall (20 minutes away) just to be disappointed a third time with the same story! It wasn't until the third location that the associates even cared to help!! The associate in Valley Fair was rude & had no interest in helping me. And I was being so nice & trying to be understanding! This is beyond outrageous. I'm a new MAC costumer, and I'm pretty sure never again will I return! read more

i went in for the back to mac program-to get four free eyeshadows! so i was excited, but i know how busy they can get so i went early on a tuesday and they are just as stuck up and bitchy as on the weekend...the girl who "helped" me gave me a piece of paper to write down what eyeshadows i wanted so that she could go and get them for me but when i was done-literally less than five minutes later-she was nowhere to be found! so i patiently waited in line to have the ladies at the register help me out but the snob that i got gave me a blank stare and had me repeat like five times what that paper was for! haha she was probably new or dumb because i imagine these girls are constantly replaced-in and out like a revolving door b/c they all seem so miserable working there! anywhoo, the dumb bitc$ made me wait for the original dumb girl b/c she had gone to her 10 min break and she was the only one who could help me! i guess b/c of commission,so 20 min later-she obviously went over! and after being glared at by dummy #2 while she mouthed to herself: " ugh, you still here..."-while i responded in my head: "um yea, you giant cakey pore hag"-anyways the cakey faced dummy #1 appears....so i got my free stuff-wasnt going to buy anything after this shitty experience! i now drive all the way to the freestanding mac store in san mateo-the girl there is always nice and not GHETTO like those big ass pores, overpowdered, cakey clown faced hood rats at valley fair! arrrgh cant stand that place! read more

I have no idea why MAC is hiring unprofessional half assed idiots representing them as MAC store employees. I will not return to this store and will spread the word to other make up lovers. I went to this MAC store to get some make up. I was not asked if I needed help even after patiently waiting for 15 mins for a MAC employee to notice me. It was down time at the store so very little amount of costumers were there. Not even one Employee offered to help or made eye contact. I had to ask the employee who was dancing and singing to the store music if she was working? She said yes, I said I need some help. Not to mention she was directly standing across from me and saw that I needed help. DISCRIMINATION mush be a new part of their job ethics.
