We've been here many times when visiting my in-laws in Green Bay, and to tell you the truth I've never really eaten the food, maybe the ribs once but I usually would just have a few drinks. My girls like this place and wanted to come here on this trip mainly for the nostalgia. So I was presently surprised how good the food tasted. It's a cool restaurant with the "lodgey" feel and it doesn't look worn with age. The staff and our waitress were awesome, they had to make some adjustments to seat our large party and our waitress was really patient as a few of our party were not there at the time of our reservation. Service was fast but not rushed, even though it was a busy night. We started with our drinks and some great fried cheese curds. Cheese curds have become popular throughout the Midwest but for some reason they never taste as good as the ones you get in Wisconsin. They have an impressive list of bourbons, though my father in law said that they usually don't all the Buffalo Trace bourbons that's listed. My daughter and I shared the "special of the day" perch platter. The perch was crispy and piping hot and delicious. The sides were pedestrian but decent. The others at our table got the tenderloin sandwich, half rack of tender juicy ribs, the coconut crusted shrimp and the Caribbean chicken pasta. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It's a very good choice for American pub grub but for my wife and daughters, there are the great memories of meeting up with family and enjoying a good dinner and their company. read more

I came here twice because the menu had so many yummy dishes, the parking and location is easy to get to and the service from the Host to the server are top-notch. The chefs here create their dishes in a timely manner. It looks like a massive wood lodge with 2 floors of dining and a bar/music area. Excellent lunches of Chicken soup and salad. The soup was packed with vegetables and chicken but a bit shy of dumplings, though it was delicious. The salad was crisp and loaded with iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumber. Plentiful choice of dressings. What really amazed us was the lunch fish fry served daily. It was enormous and looked delicious, and it must have been, our friend ate it all! The California club was also a hit! read more

This place has a great menu and the food is always good. It's comfortable with great service. There was one night when a band was in one of the dining areas and we asked to move to another table because the music was just way too loud to hold any sort of conversation while dining. They accommodated us immediately. Another time, my son ordered a mocktail and they accidentally put alcohol in it, but that too was rectified right away. Totally underwhelming food. The waitress was great, but I ordered the Chicken Bruschetta sandwich and terrible does not even begin to describe it. The chicken patty was probably purchased in a bag from Sam's Club. The bun dwarfed the sandwich and made it super heavy. The two slivers of tomato offered no flavor whatsoever and the balsamic glaze drowned out any mozzarella flavor. Honestly, not sure why all the hype about this place! I really had good expectations based on some of the good things I had heard. Having never been here, I wanted to get a feel for the Thursday crowd/vibe ahead of a planned family gathering in a few weeks time. Thursdays "special" is Fajitas, Chix or "Steak" or a combination. Having spent many years in Texas, one gets spoiled on true/authentic Mexican food and I should've stuck to my "golden rule" to never buy Mexican from a place that labels itself as "Casual Rustic" Americana!! Got sat at the lonely guy booth, literally half a booth with an opposing bankhead which was actually perfect given I wanted to be tucked away. Since our pending fam gathering is a Thursday, I figured I'd at least try the Fajitas coupled with a Widowmaker beer. While surfing my phone and waiting for my order, I happened to look up to see the sun shining in above. Unfortunately, it was highlighting the compound dust on the light fixtures etc above the tables! Fortunately didn't see any on the one directly above me. My beer arrived followed shortly by my order. I'm NOT a food snob, but for $19 I expect eye appeal and actual proper fare! I cannot properly evoke just how underwhelming this presentation was/is! Everyone knows that Fajitas are supposed to come out SIZZLING on the cast iron skillet... they were not. The beans and rice combo appeared to have just come from the can and the flavor of everything just laid there. Long story (almost) short. I indulged what I could. (The beer was great) Now, for the good part (or bad), when Laura, my very cordial waitress asked if I needed anything else, I explained to her how disappointed I was and proceeded to literally point out not one but TWO FLIES that I had to deal with during my meal, she graciously revealed that she could compensate me with a free desert of my choice. Naturally I countered by explaining to her that I expected my compensation to come in the form of a discount on my bill. She said that she would present that to her manager. The response was for free desert... the cheesecake is what I got for eating mediocre food with flies and compound dust!!! There is a lot of seating and the restaurant is open later than most on the east side of Green Bay. The workers are always friendly, and they are always staffed. The menu has a variety of options, but doesn't "specialize" in any in particular. My wrap was good, just not seasoned where I'd crave another one. read more

We had a large group ( about 20 of us ) stop in on Saturday afternoon after a funeral. Unannounced, but we felt very welcome ! They moved tables around for us , then added another group to our table. The staff all helped us , happily. From the host at the front door , to the server , to the food , the entire experience was wonderful ! Server ( I'm sorry I didn't write her name ) was very patient with us! Hard to get our order as we were all chatting! Food came out quickly , was hot and delicious. We were checked on often. I've eaten a Mackinaws a number of times. I would say that meals have all been generally good. This week however I had the Friday Perch Plate (to go) and it was pretty darn good! The plate had included 5 good sized breaded perch fillets, coleslaw, rye bread and a choice of one side for $18. Loved the breading on the fish and was surprised by how much food you got. Easily my favorite meal I've had at this restaurant. The restaurant itself is worth checking out... especially if you are and outdoorsmen. Met friends for lunch on a Tuesday. Place was incredibly busy but we were seated quickly. Perch lunch was bountiful and looked incredible. Burger was well done and very tasty. Crisp potato chips were not too salty or oily. Very good eating. Chicken dumpling soup was flavorful but didn't have many dumplings. CA club looked amazing. Server was very friendly and attentive. Been going to Mackinaws for over 20 years as we travel between Texas and Green Bay for Packer games. Today was our last . When we arrived there were two tables with two people in the bar area. We ordered our drinks and appetizer . Appraiser took 20 minutes. Our main lunch order was still not at our table after 65 minutes! Not once were we asked about refills . Mgr said they weren't prepared for a crowd ( on game day ????) . Mgr was unapologetic . It's a shame- used to be a nice place but IMO has gone downhill since Pat left . Won't be back- too many great places in the area. read more

Been coming here for 20 years. Until this time, our experience and food was consistent and high quality. Not sure if they're being hit too hard by inflation, but their food is not what it once was. Chicken fajita wrap-a long term item on their menu-was much smaller and less filled than it had been before. Tenders (meal not kids meal), which used to be house made if I'm not mistaken, tasted like something I could buy at Aldi and air fry at home. It also came with hardly any fries. Service was so so. Restaurant is still clean. Was slow for a Saturday night--used to be packed every night. Recommitting to food quality might regain customer trust. read more

Hello, My husband, grandmother and I came in for dinner on 10/25. We called on the way(about 6pm) and was told there was no wait, when we arrived 5 minutes later we were told the wait was 30 minutes. We put our name in and about 30 minutes later we were seated. Our waitress came over 10 mins later to get drink/food orders and I asked if there was a smaller burger option for grandma. She said NO.. they are all 1/2lb. I asked if she could get a kids burger because a 1/2lb burger was far too big for her. She said NO. She gave no options. I finally asked if she could get a smash burger but with just one patty. She said "I GUESS.. But it'll cost the same." I was shocked. She was incredibly rude. The meal was ok. The service was terrible. We were seated near the waitress station on the left side of the bar. I asked the waitress for the receipt to get her name but she grabbed the card unit and rushed away. Came to GB for the Packers game and Mackinaws was right next door. We had dinner there first upstairs and ordered the cheese curds which were delicious and a heavy helping and we split the Ribeye steak. It was cool to perfection. The server Amanda was great too and friendly. After dinner we headed downstairs to the bar area where they had live music which was also great. The bartenders were attentive. This dinner restaurant has a cozy Northwoods feel with a log cabin interior and fireplace. There is ample parking in their lot. Large interior good for kids. We ordered the steak and shrimp and the breaded perch dinners. The portions were good. The steak was cooked properly and the perch was fresh with five large filets. Service was excellent. My only complaint was that the menu needs more healthy options for diners that want to eat lighter or vegetarian options. read more

We came back to Mackinaws after a few years a sence from the area. The same great place, the same black bear greeting you as you enter. We were seated immediatly on the upper level. This was the first time up there. It's nice. Kind of like being in a loft. There are sky lights to make it bright. There is a full bar up there also. This time I ordered the 1/2 lb. Lumberjack Buffalo Burger. This came with fries. The burger consists of a 1/2 lb buffalo patty grilled to order, topped with barbecued pulled pork, bacon, and provolone cheese on a toasted bun with lettuce and tomato. Loosen your belt folks, because it's all you can do to get through this monster. The burger was juicy and delicious. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. Took my wife out for dinner tonight, and here are my observations. Place was packed clean and friendly staff. The beer and the margarita are very good. Appetizer bruscheta is the best in town, in my opinion. Now to the entree, not so good. I got the perch it is prebattered fish sticks for $25 they should be embarrassed selling this as lightly bread perch in Green Bay. This was easily one of the worst perch plates I have had in my 40+ years of eating out. We also had the turkey sandwich, i believe they are trying to copy the turkey sandwich at the old titletown restaurant. Well, they missed . It is not terrible but not close to the original. The only upside is they took the perch off my bill, and the wait staff is clean looking and friendly, and the building is beautiful. You need to do better on your perch. prebreaded perch is a no-no in Green Bay, and you should know this as the owner is a long-time Green Bay owner. read more

TLDR: Overpriced, underwhelmed, underserved, last visit ever. Food was edible. It's bar food priced like higher end dining. 2 salads-wilting lettuce, okay chicken. 1 baked chicken special, lukewarm/reheat fail. 1 Reuben..can slap Carl Buddig corned beef on toast at home and do better. Appetizer basket came in frying tray. We were offered small plates but took 7 minutes to receive them; we found out how greasy the food was being forced to eat with our fingers. Kyle, our waiter, was either visibly in a fight with another server or just indifferent to us. We waited 10 minutes to get water. Then the plates, then failed to come back for the check. This was the worst place to celebrate a special occasion today. I don't ask for much, just don't detract from our experience. Mackinaws was once great. I've gone here for years with no problem. This past time I visited, I ordered the prime rib. It was very fatty and didn't have much flavor. The au jus was also lacking flavor. It's a big place made up to look like a northern hunting lodge with pictures of horses and pioneers on the walls, snowshoes, bear traps and other explorer type artifacts around, rough hewn pine log walls and about 6 fireplaces. And I can't forget the wall mounted Canadian Geese, Grizzly bear and Caribou. All this in a new, modern building. Not exactly my kind of place, but Mackinaw's Grill was there when I needed some food during a recent trip. And if the pine log walls aren't enough in the dining area- they've taken an actual log cabin, brought it inside and call it the Cabin bar. With 10 beers on tap and 11 TV's- this is a guy's guy place, for sure. And on the Sunday that I was there- it was packed with men watching the Packer game. Just a note on all that wood- the server told me that the wood actually came from the owners own farm- logs that they had grown from when they were children. If nothing else- I love stories like that! I was hoping to get brunch as it was touted to be amazing and only $10.99 for an all you can eat buffet. But since it was served from 10 - 2 and I was there toward the end- I thought it best to eat fresh food from the menu and not the steam table. The food had just been there too long for my taste. We were seated promptly and ordered lunch. We started with some artichoke dip served with pita chips and a cup of their chicken soup. Both were pretty good. Since I was still in the mood for breakfast- I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich on ciabatta bread. It was just okay. My friends had the raspberry chicken salad served with cornbread and it was definitely the better choice. Service was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Our bill for 4 was about $60. And if you like this sort of thing- you can buy bear statues and shirts with the restaurant's logo up front. Not exactly my kind of place. But if I lived in Green Bay and was looking for a "rustic" hunting lodge to hang out at without having to go into the north woods, Mackinaw's Grill is a pretty good second choice. And even better? Went here for late lunch on a Friday. The wait staff was super friendly and pretty much let us pick where we wanted to sit. I got the fajita wrap with sweet potato fries. There were lots of peppers and onions with a good amount of chicken to balance. The chipotle wrap was also a nice touch as the wrap needed the extra spice from the wrap since there wasn't a spicy cheese in it. My friend ordered the same thing, but with steak and made the comment that it would have been the perfect cheesesteak sandwich if it would have come on a hoagie!
