Social media stretched the truth a bit on this one. Food was average at best however the staff and ambiance made up the difference. Pasta practically still raw not even al dente and pizza was really salty. I believe it may have been an off night for the kitchen so fingers crossed next time. Macoletta is very spacious with a nice cozy vibe. Plenty indoor seating as well as sidewalk dining.
I want to clarify a couple of points for accuracy. During my visit, I did not decline any offer of a replacement pizza, and I was never made aware that a complimentary replacement was available. At no point during our visit was a replacement pizza offered. I've also added a photo of the dish we received so others can see why we asked for clarification. This was served as the "White Pizza with Burrata." It appeared to be baked bread with a few dollops of burrata on top, without the white cheese base or presentation that most diners would reasonably expect from a white pizza. We genuinely thought there had been a mistake with our order. There was no disrespect on our end. We simply asked for clarification. Unfortunately, it wasn't clearly explained until the manager came over. By that point, our original server had already left us stranded, which contributed to the lack of resolution during the meal. I don't agree with the characterization of what occurred in the business's response, particularly the claim that a complimentary replacement pizza was offered. That did not happen during our visit. This was one of our favorite places, which is why the experience was so disappointing. My intention is not to argue but to provide honest feedback for future guests.
Macoletta really does have fantastic pizza. The employees here are so nice and if you sit at the bar, it's a lot of fun to watch them make the pizzas. I took the margherita and truffle mushroom pizza to go and had the Diablo pizza to stay. All three of them were absolutely great, but if I had to pick a favorite, I would go with the truffle mushroom pizza. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars instead of five stars is that the drinks were quite diluted in other words, I had to drink three cocktails to feel the mildest buzz. However, I would still return back because this place is about the pizza, it is not a bar, and they do make some fantastic pizza.
I went here for lunch with my friend on Sunday and it was amazing! We had the Macoletta Spritz, meatballs for our appetizer, and the Diablo Pizza for our main course. The staff were very friendly and the ambiance was nice. It had a summery outdoorsy feel to it
Want great little spot and get a New York experience... If taste buds could throw a party, mine would still be dancing from the Diablo Pizza experience. This pie is a fiery masterpiece with just the right amount of sass and sweetness. The spicy pepper kicks things off with a bold punch, but then--bam!--a whisper of honey swoops in like a culinary peacekeeper, mellowing the heat with golden charm. It's a flavor seesaw that never tips too far in either direction. Balance? Nailed it. Now, if you're a meat lover (or a lover of meats, as I like to say), this pizza is your soulmate. It's stacked like a carnivore's dream journal--every bite a savory celebration of smoky, juicy goodness. And the crust? Oh, the crust. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, It's the kind of crust that makes you pause mid-bite and whisper, "Perfect." And let's not forget the Caesar salad. It wasn't just a sidekick--it was a co-star. Cool, crunchy romaine, creamy dressing with a garlicky zing, and those little crouton nuggets of joy? Yes please. It brought a refreshing contrast to the pizza's boldness, like a chill breeze after a spicy salsa dance. In short: Diablo Pizza is a flavor thrill ride, and the Caesar salad is your stylish seatbelt. Buckle up and enjoy. Great service too!
Loved it, we came here for pizza and salad...my first meal this trip! It didn't disappoint....I had a white pizza and caprese salad...it was wonderful....and they had ginger beer! Winning!!! Always nice to have all the elements to a great meal!
We stopped here just for a drinks & my espresso martini was very good They have indoor & outdoor seating. We sat outside & the breeze was great on a warm afternoon.
In addition to the dishes posted - we also shared a pizza. The burrata canvas was the highlight of the meal but everything was delicious. The restaurant is small and cute - we sat inside and even though they had a quick turnaround for a private event they let us relax. The server was very attentive. My companion had a drink that was well prepared - but I was satisfied with the tap water and a soda. I was glad they had Coke Zero which is my favorite soft drink. I look forward to returning in the future to try other pizzas and appetizers.
First off, my kids (who are very picky eaters) were both very happy with the margherita pizza and the rigatoni bolognese. The pasta was my dinner and they ate a lot of it bc it was so good, however the portion size was small. I don't really eat veal and the waitress assured me that it was delicious and it certainly was! My husband got the broccoli rabe and sausage pizza and it was perfect. All the food was delicious and fresh. I do recommend making reservations if you want to sit inside or at the bar. The staff were all friendly and efficient. Andela was pretty busy but she went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Thank you.
The mushroom truffle pizza had to be my favorite pizza for brunch. It was super tasty and you kind of crave it when you're done eating it. The Hugo spritz paired really well with the pizza. Will definitely be back to try more options on their menu.
I called a little after they opened to place an order to go on my way home for lunch. She told me it would take 15 minutes when I got there 15 minutes later he had not even started making the pizzas. The guy who was making the pizza seemed kind of stressed but I hung around and waited another 30 minutes until the pizzas were done. I got a small and a large margarita. The small one was completely burnt on the bottom and the large one was doughy and under cooked. Somebody bites literally tasted like raw dough. It wasn't cheap either. I think I spent around $60. Really disappointed with my experience and it's a shame because the ingredients definitely tasted fresh. I don't know. Maybe it was just a bad day for them?
I came here twice while I was staying for a week in Astoria since the menu just looked so good! On the first instance, I got the burrata canvas and a Shirley temple. The streak of good, balanced shirley temples continues! The burrata canvas has me a little conflicted though, I felt like the mini calzones tasted very similarly to each other. My favorites were the mushroom (surprising) and margherita (unsurprising). But the only real difference between them was that the mushroom one didn't have tomato. The diavolo one tasted almost exactly like the margherita one except for one spicy bite. My least favorite was the broccoli rabe and sausage one, I think I was just expecting a different taste maybe like a sweet sausage but it was more bitter from the broccoli rabe. The best part of the whole canvas was the dough though. It tasted like actual pizza dough, way better than a lot of the calzones I've had at typical pizzerias. On my second visit, I ordered a mocktail that was a spirit free version of the mango peño (I think) and it was so tasty!!! I absolutely LOVED the burrata salad, the arugula was quite perfectly dressed in something that added a saltiness that was honestly addictive and perfectly balanced the creamy burrata and peppery arugula. I ate the whole thing! And I also ate the whole personal margherita pizza. I REALLY love margherita pizza and this one was just so fresh and delicious. I almost came back a third time. I really want to come back for one of their pizza making classes too!
The food here is good. The problem is that Astoria is full of spots similar to Macoletta which are outstanding. Still, I find myself back here at least once per year since it's so close to the park. This time around we tried the rice ball special which was crispy, but a little bland. The Napolitano pizza with capers was one of the better pies I've had here, though I had to ask for the anchovies on the side since my partner is vegetarian. We ended up having leftovers, which they boxed along with the anchovies which means those are now my leftovers since the slices have been contaminated. Service is always friendly and swift, and the ambiance is modern but cozy. We sat in front of the pizza oven this time which was fun to watch. It actually rotates and times the pizza cook so that everything cooks evenly, which is actually kind of genius.

We had to return to Macoletta since our 1st experience was so amazing! Macoletta is easily becoming one of our favorite dining spots in our neighborhood! This time around we went on a Monday late afternoon for Happy Hour, which runs from 4-7pm. We started with the Pirate Mojito (pineapple & mango), which was made perfectly for us by our server and bartender, Ricardo. Wow it was so delicious and refreshing and strong! We also started with the shishito peppers that came with a yummy chipotle mayo dipping sauce and it was perfection - definitely a must try! For our entrees, we opted for the special of the day instead of pizza, and opted to try the chicken special which came with a refreshing side salad. The special was actually more of a chicken parm and it was absolutely delish - I cleaned the plate! We finished with another round of the Pirate Mojitos. Definitely stop by Macoletta if you are in the area and haven't already tried it! I am sure you would agree with me :) Cheers! read more

I thought the place was nice and cozy. Warm and dim we came here for dinner, the starters were great. We had eggplant and octopus carpaccio it was light and yummy. We ordered rigatoni which was delicious, gnocchi (the smelliest cheese stink ever), and the Nutella pizza was amazing but their ice cream said gelato and it was soooooooo not, it was horrible. Just think of yogurt but placed in the freezer for two mins. It was soft and flavor was mixed between strawberry and vanilla. So I don't know not the best experience but it was okay. Oh yea and the pizza was great though it was so fresh and soft. I would give it another try though just maybe order differently and maybe not sit inside or next to the cook. read more

I live right around the corner from this incredible restaurant but take it for granted and never go in! But recently, my friend and I were meeting up for dinner to celebrate my little one's birthday. He has many many allergies, one of them being dairy. And he had been asking to eat pizza, so we decided on Macoletga because of their vegan options. Once there, the hostess and waitress were so very friendly, and brought me a paper menu so I could scrutinize the ingredients. A nice cozy pizzeria that is located in Astoria, they have outdoor sitting with a heater which for the winter is perfect to eat alone or accompanied. I came here with a friend and share a few options of the menu: Octopus Carpaccio: Octopus, Capers, Fresh Parsley, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Lemon Zest, Lemon Dressing. A super simple dish executed perfectly. The octopus was cut in slices extremely thin, plated beautifully, drizzled with delicious olive oil, and topped with the perfect amount of lemon dressing to give it a little kick to obtain an exquisite taste. Diablo - Spicy: San Marzano Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Nduja, Spicy Salami, Calabrian Chili, Honey. A pizza made in an oven, the crust was crushing, the mozzarella was super fresh, the sauce of pizza was good, the salami was great and the level of spicy was just perfect, the combination of the ingredients was great to make this pizza so delicious. read more

The service was excellent. They all chipped in and were so attentive. The pizza isn't my favorite. The sauce however, was good, with a tang and brightness, but I'm old school and the crust does nothing for me. Ugh, even worse was the Caesar salad. Loved that it was chopped, but it was also completely tasteless. Croutons were rock hard. Tip for the chef: Dress the salad before it goes out, shave some Parmesan cheese ribbons and sans the croutons. We're definitely coming back for the homemade pasta. Stay tuned. read more

Offers some of the finest pizza in Astoria. The Astoria location primarily serves brick-oven Neopolitan-style pizza with so many different options, and this was my second visit in three years. I selected the lemon chicken pizza, which I have never eaten anywhere else. It was delicious and filling, and one could certainly taste the lemon in the chicken. As well as pizza, they also offer pasta, paninis, and calzones. My partner ordered spaghetti Pomodoro which she enjoyed less. That was a bit of a shame. What makes Macolleta stand out is that it offers pizza-making classes as well as an actual pizza bar in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and provided shade on a sweltering day when we visited. Our server was a little slow even though the restaurant wasn't packed, so we had to wait a bit to be served. All in all an enjoyable experience! read more

I am baffled by all the good reviews. Ordered delivery. It was 50 minutes late. But ok maybe it's not the restaurant fault. Food itself is abysmal. Mushy overcooked pasta. I asked for Porcini pasta with italian sausage and Alfredo pasta with chicken. Instead i got allfredo with sausage and porcini and chicken. The Alfredo pasta itself is Overcooked creamy mess. Best pizza in the neighborhood!!! Oh my goodness that was such a good meal. We did a socially distant outdoor dining experience, and I will most definitely be back for more. Nothing beats pizza fresh out of the brick oven. You bite into it and the flavors are a party in your mouth. Truffle pizza was amazing, and so was the eggplant. I'll try meats and sausages next time cuz both my friends were vegan, and I can't wait for my next visit! Please order from this place! You will not regret it. Wow. Where to even begin. This place is ridiculously good. Upon approaching the restaurant, I realized that the place had a very cool decor and ambiance for both the outdoor seating and indoor seating. Definitely a vibey looking spot inside and out. The open kitchen concept along with the pizza oven right in the middle of the restaurant steal the show of the interior of the restaurant. To start, my girlfriend and I ordered the margherita pizza which was fantastic. I spent a month in Milan, Italy back in 2022 and I must say - the pizza here was just as good as the ones I had in Milan. The crust was perfect and the sauce was 10/10. After having the pizza, we ordered 2 pasta dishes that were cooked perfectly al dente. We ordered the tonnarelli cacio e pepe along with the pasta with the pomodoro sauce. We were blown away by both dishes. Again, the quality of the pasta and sauce was comparable to the pasta I had in Italy. I'm giving this place 5 stars, easily. They have an "open" concept where you can see the cooks whipping up all the dishes, and there's a bar around that area. The space is very intimate and great for a casual date. We got a couple Pinot Grigios to sip on as our meals were whipped up. I got the gnocchi with the Gorgonzola, a very hearty, and cheesy dish and I enjoyed every single bite of it. Macoletta is the neighborhood pizza shop that makes you feel at home. The Macoletta team creates a welcoming and positive environment- you can tell they are happy to be there and have you as a customer. It's no surprise that the owners greet the locals by their name. The Italian style pizza here is delicious. The dough is chewy, the ingredients are fresh, and the pizza is non-greasy. The pizza combinations are very unique; I shared the Crudo and Chicken pizza. While a small pizza can be shared between 2, you'll definitely want to order your own because it's so tasty. I topped off the evening with the house special creme brûlée while my friends all had the Toblerone dessert. We were all very happy with our meal. If you're looking for a great casual pizza spot, Macoletta is worth a visit. Macoletta is another reason why NYC is known as the pizza capital of the world. read more

Macoletta in Astoria is such a good vibe. My friend looked them up and recommended we go here for dinner, so I was down to try it. We sat outside, it was a Sunday night. It was really nice. They had live music happening, which added to the vibe, and the staff were super friendly. A+ for decor and ambiance. My 3 stars come into play with the food, unfortunately. I only ended up ordering the veal meatballs. They were just ok to me. I've had some amazing veal meatballs that really raised the bar for me. These balls just weren't as flavorful. The sauce wasn't memorable and a bit bland. Even the texture of the meatballs for me, just weren't really giving veal. Veal is usually super tender and light and moist. Almost to the point of barely having to chew. I just didn't get that with these meatballs. They could just be prepared differently, or perhaps I've just been spoiled by amazing veal meatballs. They also came out fairly quickly after I ordered them, which always leads me to believe that they could've been prepared or made earlier. Not saying that's the case, but a possibility. My friend who wanted to come, ordered the shoshito peppers and enjoyed them. My other 2 friends both ordered pizza. One of which, was a mushroom pizza, and the other was some sort of prosciutto de Parma pizza. Neither of them enjoyed them, sadly. I never like writing reviews under 4 or 5 stars, but I also believe that these reviews that are written constructively can assist restaurants in doing some fine tuning in certain areas. read more
Very great waiting service and the pizza dough is phenomenal and overall delicious! I also got the Mac omertà salad with cut up pears and arugula which is one of the greater pairings! They can make virgin versions of the alcoholic drinks which is great for me and not the biggest space but they also have outdoor seating which is cool. For the winter, the brick oven definitely warms up the restaurant which is nice and comforting! Overall a good dinner experience and would come back again! read more

Celebrated my birthday at Marcoletta and it was amazing! We ordered three pizza pies 2 bottles of wine and a few a couple of drinks. The price was just right and the service was lovely. We stumbled across this little gem on our way to meet up with friends. The restaurant was clean with simple decor. We sat at the pizza bar. I wanted to see the pizzas being cooked in the huge oven in the middle of the restaurant. At such a close distance, I was surprised to not feel the heat of the oven. The chef was a man of few words, concentrating instead on his craft. We ordered a mozzarella caprese and a diablo pizza to share. If you have a fondness for mozzarella like I do, I would highly recommend this dish. It is one of the top five caprese salads I've had. At first glance, the freshness of the hand ripped mozzarella calls out to you. Incorporated in the cheese was a bit of sea salt that gave the dish a much needed dose of umami and added texture. The light touch of balsamic vinaigrette was perfect. The pizza came out at the perfect moment. The dough was slightly charred but still fluffy and not overly doughy. The pepperoni leaned closer salami than your typical american pepperoni. I didn't think I would taste something so delicious outside of Italy. If you're in the neighborhood, I would highly recommend this place. read more

Got the margarita (cooked well done) and it didn't disappoint. Might be the best pizza I've ever had in Astoria. This place gives John's of Bleecker and Di Fara a run for their money. Superb flavor all around. Creamy high quality mozzarella, great tang to the sauce and the dough has a fantastic flavor. Fresh ingredients make all the difference. Pizza is excellent but I was quite disappointed that the pasta no longer comes with mozzarella slices on top. I think the mozzarella slices make the pasta worth the money, but without it...it's just ok. Why do you have to skimp on the mozzarella?? I'm going to stick to the pizza going forward. read more
