I hadn't even left the garage yet and I had to write a review for how awesome this place is. I had bought a Groupon last year and brought my car in to get my alignment done back in January. I love how Larry sets up an appointment for you so you don't have to wait too long if you are planning to wait for your vehicle. Anyway, I brought my car in January and had to come back again today because my steering wheel had been shaking on the freeway at high speeds for about a month now. Larry had my wheels balanced and fixed my alignment for free. This just speaks to the 5-Star service you'll receive here. The customer service is next to none. The quality of service is 5-Star also. For these two reasons I will keep bringing my car back here and recommend Mac's to my family and friends. Got my 4-wheel alignment done with Mac's Auto Care with Groupon today. Was really happy with service and its promptness. Made an appointment at 3 and got out within 45 minutes. Wish they had more comfy waiting room but there's Mitsuwa next door so I could have gone there to kill time, etc. After the service, the owner gave me the alignment report showing me which wheels are out of alignment and how the machine corrected it. My car just got some good chiropractic treatment and ready to hit the rough road in LA /OC. read more

Excellent service, good prices! I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that I bought from CarMax. I needed to call CarMax last Dec. for warranty service. They were busy and recommended several car service companies that could do my work more quickly, but they said the best one in Costa Mesa was Mac's Auto Care. I called Mac's Auto Care and worked with both Larry and Aaron. They were both great! They identified the problem quickly, and fixed it for me at about half the price quoted to me by CarMax. Last month I needed a tune up, and Mac's Auto Care did it at the best price I could find from several providers, including Big O Tires. Today I had another problem - both of my tail lights were out. I needed them fixed quickly. Larry and his staff identified the problem immediately. They told me to buy the parts from O'Reilly's if they had them, or otherwise Hyundai. At Hyundai the parts cost $86, and Hyundai quoted me $280 to install them - they said it would take 2 hours. I took my car back to to Max's Auto Care, and Larry's guy installed them in 30 minutes. I purchased a groupon for a alignment and also asked them to do an oil change. I had known that I may need new brakes in the front but I didn't say anything. I wanted to see if they noticed it which they did. So I included front brakes and they also changed my filters. Aaron was very helpful and offered me to borrow a car for free instead of waiting there for my truck. I was shocked by the price because it was so much less than what my regular mechanic would have charged me out the door under $290!!!  I have found myself a new mechanic to work on my truck. read more

I brought in my car, which was in an accident and had terrible alignment. They were able to bring it back to straight in an hour. I am giving this 2 stars because the customer service over the phone and in person was good. I chose to go here based on the great reviews. It seems like they know what they are doing and I'll trust the alignment to be done at their expertise; however, I am rather upset. I bought the four wheel alignment coupon, made an appointment, drove to Costa Mesa (from Long Beach) for my appointment. After my appointment, I felt my alignment still off; the car would pull either way that I turned the wheel to. Since they were already closed by the time I left and since I don't know anything about alignments, I figured that maybe this is a normal thing and it will adjust. After my research, I learned that this should not be happening so I called them to inform them of this. They invited me back in to check on it as they believe it is a "tire pull". Me having to return is already an inconvenience to me as I am a grad student and I work full-time among other personal scheduled errands. As upset as I was I gratefully accepted and made an appointment. At my appt, they informed me that my wheels were adjusted and that they were off (showing me the results on the receipt). I agreed and thanked them. As I am driving home, I notice my car being pulled to the right over and over. I purposely drove to a flat street to test this and sure enough, it kept being pulled to the right. My friend who was with me witnessed this as well. I am not sure if they just didn't test my car on a road after they supposedly fixed the tires or what exactly. I was told, by Allan, that the tires tend to pull depending on how you drive. I might not have a full knowledge about alignment or mechanical items on a vehicle but I have had my car for 4 years. I know how my car drove before I ever needed an alignment. Nonetheless, I've been driving for 10 years generally so I know the difference of a car driving straight as it should and when it pulls. It has been 4 days since my last appt with them and rather than calling them AGAIN to inform them, I decided to just take it elsewhere and write a review. Went in for an alignment with an oil change. The alignment went fine except the when the big guy mechanic with a goatee was test driving beforehand, he decided to floor it and then made a harsh U-turn which made my tires screech. After driving back to the shop, he decided to cough a few times in my car while not wearing a mask. As for the oil change, it couldn't be done since big guy mechanic with a goatee decided to strip and round out my oil drain plug. The owner had to tell me later that they didn't have the part currently and to come back in a few days which I did. On day two, another big guy mechanic was banging at it for twenty minutes trying to remove the busted plug. Loudest attempt at an oil change ever. After awhile, he gave up and the owner said the part was small and they didn't have the tools for it. This seemed really odd to me since I've had an oil change somewhere else and nobody seemed to have a problem with it. I went back to my old oil guy for an opinion and he said, "What the hell happened to the plug?". Also, "There's nothing especially special about this plug. It's 10 mm. I've seen it all the time." Turns out you can buy a replacement at AutoZone. That's how common a part it was. Anyway, the replacement was bought and I went to another shop who fixed it in 10 minutes. read more

I went to Macs Auto to do alignment with the Groupon I bought online, unfortunately alignment failed because of my tires, people work there told me I need to buy new tires before they can do alignment , so tires are the foundation of alignment, I specifically ask the person if I don't buy the new tires, can he do the alignment , he said no. I'm not an expert on such a matter so I didn't argue but left and I went to Sears Auto not far from it. I asked the same question: can you do alignment if I don't buy new tires ? The answer I got is simple: No, not necessary. And then I dropped my car and had the alignment done. I am still puzzled by Macs Auto why they told me they are not able to do the alignment if I don't buy new tires from them, on the receipt they gave to me says : recommendation for new tires. I don't understand since when recommendation becomes requirement. And the Groupon I bought has nowhere mentioning the restrictions between tires and alignment, if the body shop has only capability to do alignment based on the status of the tires, they definitely should let the customers know the limits of what they can handle in advance especially in the promotions they put out. Also I suggest they alter the description on Groupon to reflect the facts of what they can do or not and honor their own promise. P.S. I changed my tires in January 2016, and I drive it only in the city for work purposes. read more

I came to Costa Mesa today for a job interview. When I completed my interview I saw I had a flat tire. I yelped the closest tire repair/auto repair shops nearby. Everyone else was a 1.5hr-2hr wait to patch a flat tire. I called Mac's and spoke to Larry. He said they could help me in 20 minutes. I had my car towed to Mac's, it was not drivable as I thought it looked. I checked in with Larry, and the guys got to work ASAP. Larry informed me that the tire was beyond repair and that they didn't have one they could sell me to replace the bad one. He said he could order one but had a used tire I could drive home on. I let him know I lived in Los Angeles and that I would not be able to return to replace the tire. He said it was no problem. I didn't realize the scope of what he meant when he said it was no problem. I was just glad they were going to get me back on the road to home. The team replaced the tire with the used one. When the work was done I tried to settle out my bill. He told me it was no charge. Huh???? I was absolutely SHOCKED!!!And speechless and grateful. He knew fully well that I would not be back. I realize that mechanics and auto shops in general have a shadey reputation. Larry and the crew at Mac's auto restore my faith in humanity when it comes to auto repair. They have no idea who I am, or that I'm posting this review. They don't even know my name or have my info since they didn't invoice me for repairs. I just want everyone who reads this to know that this is an honest shop. They do right by the people who come in. I wish them many years of success. Have a groupon? Don't waste your time. I went in for a wheel alignment, and was told I could come back in an hour. About 20 minutes later, I got a call stating that they wouldn't do a wheel alignment because my tire tread was low on my front tires. I tried to discuss options, with Larry ultimately refusing to do any service unless I bought new tires (he could give them to me for JUST $170/tire!!! When the tires on my car cost $125 literally everywhere else). Larry stated "no one would do an alignment with those tires". I left Mac's, drove to another service center nearby where I had an oil change scheduled, and they promptly changed my oil, and aligned my tires (And priced me new tires at $125/pop) ---- they also gave me a discount on their alignment price when I explained what happened at Mac's. Larry seemed very nice & personable....I would too if I were making an extra $45/tire upselling people that come in with a Groupon. Don't waste your time like I wasted mine....Goodyear on Edinger provided a personable experience at a better price, and didn't try to upsell me - they did what I went in for, were friendly, fast, pointed out suggestions for my car, but didn't try to sell me anything. Larry also refused a refund, despite Groupon's policy....I have reached out to Groupon regarding the issue and am awaiting a response.....so Mac's doesn't want to service my vehicle, but they're OK keeping my money? No thanks.........this type of shop is the reason it's so hard for people to trust mechanics, what a shame. read more

My husband made an appointment for my car, and I had no idea what to expect - my past experiences with mechanics have not been great. I'm happy to report that Larry and his crew changed that. I had the car aligned, tires rotated, and decided to get the brakes done while I was there. I had sort of resigned myself to making that my virtual office for the day, but was in and out of there in about an hour and a half with everything. Purchased a GroupOn for a 4 wheel alignment. Called and scheduled an appointment. Had to go in a total of 3 times in order for the shop to try and correct the alignment. Ended up going to a different shop to correct alignment after having made 3 total appointments. Buying the groupon in this case ended up costing more than if I would have just paid full price at an alignment shop. Visit 1: Brought the car in, it was jacked it up, 25 minutes. I got the alignment results and they told me that they couldn't do any of the alignment because the car needed to have a "Camber Bolt". The cost for them to install the camber bolt was $110. I told them I'd get one myself and bring it back for them to do it, because there was no alignment that was done that day. I bought the camber bolts for $7 and it was installed in 10 minutes. I called to have the car brought back in with the camber bolts. Visit 2: Came back with another appointment. I arrived 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment and they took the car in because there were no cars ahead of me. Car was jacked up and the results came back in 20 minutes the exact same as before. I asked why it wasn't fixed? They said that I needed to have camber bolts in order for them to be able to get the alignment back into factory specs. I told them well that's the reason I brought the car back, because it has the new camber bolts installed since the last visit. This is why I called to reschedule my appointment. He said it doesn't have camber bolts. We went back and forth until I showed them the camber bolts that were installed. And then I was being questioned as to why this car even has camber bolts, as if it was wrong for them to be on. Lets not question why the car has camber bolts, lets question why your mechanic didn't even check to see if it had camber bolts, when that is the reason for the entire visit. The mechanic didn't even check to see if the bolts were there the second time. So then I asked them to correct it since they now know the camber bolts are there. They said sorry you have to come back, we don't have time to do your alignment. There was no one else in the shop after me and there was even 40 minutes left from my "1 hour" appointment. They could have easily corrected this in 40 minutes left on my appointment, but I was told it takes a lot longer for them to do camber bolts. Visit 3: Made a third appointment and showed up to have them finally correct the alignment. The car was jacked up, and the results were back within 20 minutes. Almost quicker then it was to do the original alignment, even though I was told that fixing the camber bolts takes "a lot longer". Anyway, I took the car that day to another shop and paid full price for a 4 wheel alignment on the work they had just done. To my surprise, the specs were off and was finally corrected and this was reflected in the way the car drove. The employees were kind, but the service was not on the same level. When you're paying for the work to be done, that is what you expect. I have a full year warranty with the alignment at this shop, but I certainly won't be returning to follow up on this warranty. read more
