I bought my fuschia handbag here. This morning it smells like margaritas. Damnit, how many margaritas did I have last night? Oh...the store's pretty cool. It's more of a high-end Macy's since it's at the Topanga Mall. I do have to say the service people though are rather shy. I was looking for bras once and they were too timid to come over and help me. I've been to other Macy's where they are not shy to bust out the measuring tape and measure you with everyone watching. This review is for Michelle who is the "Personal shopper coordinator" at the men's department in the Polo Ralph Lauren section. She was amazing, and had a great insight on the different brands, and comfortable material that would fit well with my body type. I have never received a custom tailored personal service from Macy's as I did with her service. I don't really shop here for clothes nor do I care for Macy's. But, I always walk into Macy's because, it's located towards the front of the Topanga mall. You can find name brands to low end brands. I can say this Macy's is pretty busy almost of the time. I wouldn't shop here, because it not my cup of tea. The cashiers are always busy. I don't know how their discounts or coupons work. I just walk into Macy's because of their parking structure close to the stores I want to shop at the mall. read more

This is strictly for the CHANEL makeup counter. I was in need of new foundation and was passing through Macy's so I thought why not buy what I need here. The lady who helped me was finishing up with a customer and acknowledged me when I walked up to the counter. Much appreciated. She then helped me find the right color for my skin tone since they no longer make the Perfection Lumiere foundation. I thought I was a 60 beige but it turns out I was a 40 beige. I guess I had originally purchased this color when I was tan. Now being a bit more pasty and pale, the 40 beige suits just fine. Good thing she had me 'try I before I buy' because the color difference was drastic. I forgot her name but she was very sweet and kind with me. I highly recommend the ladies at the CHANEL beauty counter in Macy's. They'll help you with your makeup needs! read more

I cannot remember the last time I had a pair of jeans that fit. On a whim I was in Macy's and asked a guy to help me..started by saying this is my most dreaded of all shopping. And would you believe he was the District Manager and knew his inventory. After 45 minutes I had a pair of $49.00 (on sale) Levi 514's that fit me better than any jean I've had in the last 20 years! A big thanks to Raffi!! Oh..and I didn't stop there. Raffi helped me put together a great outfit. Hold onto your wallet because you will want to give it to him and say "work your magic" I should also add that this was after I was in Nordstrom's trying to find a pair of jeans without any luck and the feeling that there was something wrong with me for not wanting to spend $200.00 on jeans that didn't fit!! I went to Macy's at Vanowen at canolga park to return the shoes that i bought! When i buy the shoes i ask the cashier if i can return and she said yes YOU HAVE 30 days and make sure you have the receipt and the barcode. I have all of them and now when I'm returning the shoes the lady said, YOU CANNOT RETURN IT BECAUSE ITS BEEN USED. and i said, yes i used it one day to try it on but unfortunately it made my foot numb, but she still didn't return it and instead argue with me. Not good Macy's to shop and people are being not being nice. Not even one person greet us. I WORK IN RETAIL AND OUR GUEST IS ALWAYS RIGHT. And we accept returns even if it used. This is for the two faced makeup counter, all the girls were friendly and suggestive. I don't remember her name but a tall girl with long brown hair helped me shade-match and find a new foundation I had been hunting for a while. I was going to go with new NARS natural one but she suggested the two faced born this way foundation and ended up being perfect. She was knowledgeable about the product and let me take my time trying new lippies for my pout. The other ladies were helpful also resulting in nice experience which is rare in this city. I didn't give all five stars because the foundation ended up being one shade off in natural lighting but ended up doing an easy exchange for the right tone. Overall great experience. read more

"I hate Macy's." I've been saying that for years. Macy's vacuumed up all of the middle range department stores in California and the results are the Borg-like Too-Bigness and Too-Boringness that you would expect. The Santa Monica Macy's in particular is a black hole of bad design, crappy merchandise and abusive employees. I mean it. Those people are just plain mean. But now I live near the Topanga mall. And, as anyone who's paying attention will tell you, you have to park near Macy's or Target. Parking near Nordstrom, even if Nordstrom is your ultimate destination, is insanity. So, I park near Macy's, which means I go through Macy's to get to the mall. Sometimes I'll linger over a display or go up or downstairs to hit the ladies room. Without fail, I will be asked by at least one cheerful salesperson whether I need help. It is astonishing. Do these people not know that they work at Macy's? That they are supposed to be diffident at best? Today, no less than four people offered to help me. D'you think they're new holiday help? Will the Macy's Pod People get them eventually? Anyhow, 3 stars for being nice and helpful. I mean just try to find anyone to help you at the Macy's in Santa Monica or Westside Pavilion. read more

Despite a completely empty dressing room with nobody around in a 40 foot radius, they do not let you try on clothes. They tell you that you must buy the clothes and try them on at home due to COVID19. This is ridiculous, particularly since the dressing room was the safest location in the store at the time and only place not overrun by a zillion people following zero social distancing protocols. All it took was one employee to exercise basic common sense judgment by allowing a customer to try on clothes in a vacant room near no other people. Instead, multiple employees said it is the policy and there is nothing they can do. Not sure Macy's will be in business much longer with these types of breakdowns in operations. read more

I will never shop at Macy's again. I wish I could give them a negative star. I made a purchase on my Macy's card of $54.50 and paid the balance on full electronically through my bank in September. They are now calling me saying I have a past due balance of $154!! These are late fees representing 300% of the original purchase! When I called, I was told nothing could be done and waited to a supervisor who never came on the line. Charging escalating late fees like this should be illegal. Not only was he rude but he felt the nerve to inform a friend of mine that shopped there later in the day, that I was rude to him and that he couldn't believe the attitude. I called to check availability of some bra sizes and was placed on hold for 15 minutes, which was totally fine because having worked in retail myself, I understand how busy it gets and that it can be difficult to juggle the customers in front of you and the ones on the phone. I waited patiently and when the lady picked up again she said I had to talk louder (I was in a silent apartment with full reception and was speaking at a normal level so I thought that was odd) but I obliged and when I did she said I had to talk even louder because she had music playing above her (hey Macy's--maybe turn down the music if your staff can't hear customers over the phone). I asked if she could check on whether they had a range of bra sizes in stock and was taken aback when she said I would have to drive there and check for myself. I asked again if someone could please check for me, as that was the entire reason I'd waited on hold for 15 minutes. Without coming right out and saying so, she made it clear that she did not want to check. She kept giving me information I didn't need, listing other sizes they had that I hadn't asked about as if I would end the call if she just told me that they have a bunch of different sizes, telling me that the brand I'd mentioned does make bras in the size I asked about, but not responding to my request for someone to tell me if they actually had the sizes I was looking for in stock. I had to ask four or five times if someone could please walk over and check and I could tell she was irritated with me, though I was asking for something so standard. She expressed that they were busy and I said I understand and that I was willing to wait. I'm guessing she was frustrated because they don't have enough staff to support the department, but that's not an excuse to treat a customer poorly. Macy's, please plan your staffing better so that customers can receive at least a basic level of service. read more
