This place is not welcoming at all. The staff are very rude. They have a negative attitude and the energy when you speak to them is overall negative. I went to the visitor center to get some stuff for my college. Since it's a visitor center you would think the people who work there would be welcoming and actually help you out with the stuff you need. The guy with glasses was rude to me, he treated me like if I didn't know what I was talking about. He couldn't even get me the copies I needed. Like as if they would run out of copies. I had asked him for the 30 copies of the magazine he had. So he takes the copies and slams it on the table. Like if I hurried his feelings or something. Then the lady at the counter who has a fake smile is another story. I asked for one plastic bag she said she doesn't have any. I looked at the counter and saw many plastic Macy's bag and I told her aren't those bags over there. She was like oh you have to make a purchase first. Thats total bull s***. If I was to Go to another department store they would offer me a bag. It's not like I'm asking for the whole box. Not only that her attitude was off. So I told her I wanted to know who the cooperate was so that I can contact them. She said she doesn't know, how do you not know who the cooperate of the company your working for is. I also told her that she has a negative attitude and she should fix it. I said good bye to her with a nice big smile. Yea don't expect too much from those people. So if they give anyone an attitude just remember It's not our fault they have to work in a job they dislike. read more

I worked here last holiday season because I was so desperate for cash. I worked in the charter club cashmere women's sweater department. Before you spend $149 on these, just know that they have been touched extensively by the employees' dirty hands, have fallen on the floor and have been kept in a dusty storage room that is beyond unsanitary. The only "magic" at Macy's is the amount of charges they apply to your card. If you're thinking about applying here, look into selling drugs instead. You'd get paid more, at least. read more

I hate this store with a passion. Herald Square is the worst area of New York City. Today I returned two pairs of lashes to MAC, because their salesperson made a mistake and gave me the wrong product. When I called yesterday, I was told if the lashes were unused, I could return them. Today I went to the MAC counter and was treated like a criminal. The lashes were clearly unused and unopened, and the staff would not give me a refund. I basically threw the lashes at a jerk named Luis. Every female employee had either a tattoo or an attitude. I placed an order online for 2 items, only two, both showing available. They took my money, then cancelled half my order! then when I tried to cancel the order entirely, they told me I could not and would have to wait. Nothing is shipped! NOTHING! yet they only allow a 30-minute window for cancellation on online orders. What the hell is that? 30 minutes?! Are you serious! And why can an online order not be cancelled?! I shop here a lot only because I work nearby. Yes, they have good sales. Yes. occasionally you can find a steal. But overall - a block of overpriced, outdated things. Lot's of tourists. Absolutely unbearable during Christmas sales. Shoes department sucks - always messy, hard to catch an assistant, and recently all girl shows are with crazy high heals (common!) Sale associates are friendly. Make up department sometimes have professionals to come to do facials and make ups for the customers. Cellar food sucks and expensive. read more

HUGE SALES. Hugo Boss suit discounted from $850 to $450, plus an additional 25% off?? It took a while to find a sales associate patient enough to help find me the perfect suit, but when I found her, she was great. I needed to try on a lot if suits before feeling confident I had the right one, and she was there for all 3 hours of it (I'm a horrible customer, I know). She even went out of her department to help me find a matching shirt and tie. The in-site tailor did an excellent job, too. I met another helpful associate when picking up my hemmed suit the following week, which confirmed for me that Macy's is in fact a great place to shop. My advice: take the time finding a sales person willing to get to know you enough to help you find exactly what you are looking for. And while you're there, enjoy the crazy discounts! read more

Love the wooden escalators. I always get good customer service here. My wife and I went in to get a new bedroom comforter and accompaniments. Eno was an incredible help and very very knowledgeable. Special kudos to Eno and the supervisor Ed for their help and customer service. We travel to NY city a couple times a year and always catch at least 1 broadway show and one trip to Macy's and employees like Eno an Ed are the reason why. Flagship store, gotta do it. Jam packed on a Friday afternoon, just like the whole city. The second floor is women's shoes forever. Seems like you'll never get served, yet they have systems and shoe runners to it doesn't take long. Every department seemed well served and with plenty of inventory. REVIEW OF MATTRESS & FURNITURE DEPT, top floor: MATTRESS: After tearing our hair out at Sleepy's with passive sales folk who knew little of the product they sold, we took a look at Macy's. Michael immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. Because we had a Murphy bed our measurements were specific. Michael knew his product, showed us six options that would work and within 15 minutes we ended up with a mattress that's perfect for our needs and at less than half the price of Sleepy's, delivered by two friendly guys right on schedule. FURNITURE: Michael #2 helped us select a sofa and the experience was exactly the same. Great service, great price, on the dot friendly delivery and thoughtful follow up to make sure we were happy (and we are!). My background is retail management - the best way to gain a consumer's trust is to treat them as you would want to be treated yourself. Back that up with product knowledge and efficiency and you have that "old world" retail touch that will get your sale and, just as important, a devoted customer. What a terrible experience at the BareMinerals counter! I was there for at least 20 minutes and not ONE of the employees stopped to ask if I needed help or any assistance. They were too busy giggling and having some sort of dance competition (including in the mirror with themselves directly next to me) and jamming out to their favorite tunes. I only continued with my purchase because I had a gift card for the store. Had it not been for the wonderful sales associate Karen, who wrung up my purchase, and apologized for the poor customer service by the other employees, this rating would have been one star. It's as if they don't understand what the words "work on commission" mean. If I were a secret shopper, they would have all been out of work! Absolutely disgusted! This is pitiful. The jewelry pick up in-store is terrible. The staff stands around and refuses to look for items, even though they are not busy. Since they make no commissions off of these items, they do NOT care. I've never been so disrespected! I tried to get help from three different people that were standing around doing nothing. They all just kept sending me to the next person and the next person. Finally the one person that did help was really nasty. First she made a joke about me to the client that she had before me. Then she wanted to give me my jewelry box wrapped up in a plastic bag that was all taped around it. I had to ask for a bag to put it in. It was so awful and unprofessional. I'm at a loss for words. I've looked up the contact for corporate but was unable to find one. It could be just the method I used to search for it. My boyfriend works as a security guard at this location and has been harassed by higher ups because of his curly hair texture. He was told his bun was unacceptable and changed it. Now for the past two days he has been told to straighten the low puff he wears his hair in and asked if there was a way he would be able to "scrunch" it so it would not be so puff. He is an Afro-Latino man with curly hair. How is it possible for the natural hair that grows out of his scalp to be "unprofessional". I will never understand. He is not European and does not have Caucasian straight hair. I am beyond disgusted. There was literally just a bill passed stating that this exact scenario is illegal. Leave him alone! read more

Worst experience ever that I've had with an online store. Macy's is racist so Asians with obviously Asian names, do business with Macy's at your own risk. I used my valid fully funded credit card at their online store. They declined the transaction. They said the card was declined by the issuer. When I checked with my bank, the bank confirmed the transaction was in fact approved and gave me the approval number. Macy's refused to accept this or acknowledge they lied about the reason for rejection of the transaction. To make things worse, they reported the card as compromised to Visa, prompting my card to be suspended. I called the bank and luckily was able to get my card reinstated. I was traveling so having a suspended card was highly inconvenient. I have many Asian friends who tried to shop in their stores and got the same treatment and excuse that the card was declined. I used the same card at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus thereafter and had no issues whatsoever. There seems to be a pattern. If Asian business is not appreciated here, happy to bring our business elsewhere. But have the guts to admit instead of wasting our time with lies that our bank declined the transaction, which they did not. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I will never buy from Macy's again, specially online. The service is horrible, over the phone they take a long time to pick up and when they do they dont solve your problem. Forget if you need to return an item- they will not solve your problem. I had to return an item and I was back and forth on the phone for almost 2 months. Every time I called they told me UPS would call for a pickup. Never did. I call Macy's again and they still say someone form UPS will call for pickup- doesnt happen again. Im also told by Macy's that Macy's will also call to confirm the pick up was done- this was also not done. When I call again, I have to basically ask to speak with the supervisor, and when I'm able to speak to the supervisor she says that UPS isnt suppose to call and they already did 3 attempts to pick up but the item was not available!!! i was not informed about this, and I explain that I didnt even know they were attempting to pick up and that I was told by Macy's that I would receive a call from UPS- supervisor doesnt even apologize, is rude and says if I want I have to call myself UPS and pay for the return??? I ask to speak to anothe person above the supervisor and Im left on the phone waiting a long time and then magically the call ends!!! So basically they dont solve your poblem and they turn off the call on your face!!! - this is complete incompetence and inefficiency from Macy's, I will never buy anything there again, it's just unacceptable service read more

Waited 20 minutes for a cashier, so I could pay a DKNY bag, then finally one came by- I was double charged ( just seen today the account). In addition to that bad experience, after stopped by Kiehl's and had the ,,opportunity " to see the manager Gloria- raising the voice at other employees, very inappropriate, was making me feel so badly, just being there - have no ideea how they work with such a management. I was in New York for business this past Dec 09 on business so I decided to give the famous NY Macy's a try. Of the various items I purchased to bring back to CA, I bought a pair of women's brown leather boots as a XMAS gift. Upon opening the gift XMAS day(back in CA), we discovered the ZIPPER WAS BROKEN on the boots. No problem right, accidents happen, they'll correct it??? I made several attempts at contacting Macy's to remedy the situation....a "personal shopper" finally called me back** after several days. The Macy's employee "assigned to my case" could not find another pair of the same brown boots ....anywhere, company wide?? They did offer me a pair in black(if I wanted black, I'd have bought the black pair in Dec). **I told them I could have the boots repaired for between $40-60.00 and would appreciate a credit for the amount to my Macy"s acct. THAT WAS DENIED!! What ever happened to making the customer happy...the customer's always right?? Like I said...the elfs working at the XMAS display were nice. read more

Love this Macy's. Not only is it the biggest department store in the world but it also has historical significance in NYC. Being a petite woman, this location has the biggest selection of "petite" clothing in the city. I do a lot of shopping for the men in my life there as well. Sales are usually great during the holidays! If you're hungry or just want to take a break from shopping- head to the cellar where they have a large cafe with lots of seating. The bathrooms have long lines so you're better off going across the street to Penn Station. read more

I went to this Macy's last weekend and it's unlike any other i've been to It's the biggest department store i've ever seen. It's under construction so is very difficult to walk through. It' s also filled with tourists and a staff whose first inclination doesn't seem to be to help customers. On 12/19/2014 I ordered a sweater online to pick up in the store (Macy's Herald Square). On 12/23/2014 I received an email from President Kent Johnson apologizing that the order was canceled as it could not be filled and offering me a 20% discount on another item (with a 6 inch small font list of "exclusions"). Macy's has lost a customer! Their order online pick up in store is completely a scam. Their ordering system is incompetent. After I complained, Customer Service emailed me to say the item is still available for online ordering!! I have never seen such institutionalized incompetence in my life! Don't shop at Macy's! It was a lot of fun going to Macy's in NYC at Christmas time! The windows were all decorated and inside the store it was like Santa's workshop. Everyone looking around and enjoying the atmosphere was amazing. We made it up all of the escalators to the top floor (it really is the biggest department store!) and I felt like I was in a different world all together. I've never experienced shopping like this at a Macy's but it was well worth it. We made our way to the Starbucks and got coffee and walked around watching everyone shopping. We picked up some candy and other small items while there. The best part was going to the furniture section and relaxing on the leather sofa! It was away from the crowds and we could people watch LOL! So much fun! Not sure if it would be the same if it wasn't the holiday season! read more

So my wife and I were in NY and we were looking for a mother of the bride dress for my wife, cost was no object . We were told to go to the 3rd floor and that's where it all went down hill. There was no one on the floor to help us. The dresses were all over the place it was a mess. She finally found something to try on and there was a line to get into the dressing room. It moved very slowly and was supervised by a very nasty person. Finally on the way out my wife found a necklace she wanted to purchase and we couldn't find anyone to check us out. Now this is Macy's flagship store, come on people. I live in LA and went to Macy's in Sherman oaks for a Mother's Day present. It was great. The exact opposite of NY. I'm giving two stars because the sales associate in the furniture department was really lovely. The delivery service and company is a mess. They were supposed to deliver on Friday between 2:30p and 4:30p. Checking the website it kept getting pushed back later and later when finally I received an automated call that it would be between 7p and 9p. Well that's great, but I won't be home. Sent an email to the CEO, got no response, but someone from the furniture distribution called me. Said they couldn't deliver on Saturday (today) and they don't deliver on Monday. After sitting home all day I was done. Last night received a message that they would deliver between 10am and Noon today, which they said they couldn't do (see above). Call from the truck at 10:05a, we are half an hour away. An hour later they showed up and it was clear this was not white glove service. Asking obvious questions like if I had gloves for them to move my mattress and box spring and two of the workers sitting in the hallway on their phones while the third went for gloves in the truck (get your feet off of the wall!). How about coming prepared. They had no work gloves, no blankets to protect the bed, my floor, the hallway. Just all around unprepared and unprofessional. There are a myriad of furniture companies that provide 180 service compared to Macy's. Total customer service fail. read more

I have always shopped Macy's in lieu of other stores. Their selections were always good,their sales help knowledgeable but one of the main reasons as that they always had union labor as the store display makers staff as well as union contractors to do changes in store layout, displays or construction. I have had the opportunity to even work at their 34th Street location numerous times, however I was extremely disappointed to learn that is no longer the case. Unless they reverse their decision to do so I will be shopping at other venues. Hopefully they will realize that union labor has always been a large part of their retail customer base and reconsider their decision. read more
