The sales lady was nice enough to scan some random coupon she had that gave me an extra $10 off when she was ringing me up. Sometimes if you ask, they might have a random coupon laying around that they can use on you! I heard multiple employees complain (including the lady ringing up my purchase!) about how they needed a break. It just made me uncomfortable because I didn't know what to say to them. I am a cross dresser and love to go shopping. I am a larger gurl so I need to shop in the plus size department. This may be a counter intuitive rating, because I think most people like to be assisted when looking for things. For me, I prefer to just be left alone to do my own thing. In general they are very good a leaving you alone to do your own thing!! On the occasions when I have interacted with the sales people they have been courteous and professional when interacting with me. About half the time I go in gurl mode, and about half the time I go in boy mode, and it has been comfortable either way. They have a great selection to choose from and they often have great sales! So, I would say if you are a cross dresser looking for a relatively safe place to shop (department is all the way upstairs in the back corner and has never been very busy when I am there) I would recommend giving it a shot! read more

I LOVE Macy's, especially at Stoneridge! They have the best Macy's stores in the East Bay. The only thing they're missing is a Mac counter inside. They do have one in the mall but you can't charge your Macy's card there. I can always find the shoes I want in my size and must have items in every department! If you're looking for an outfit for any occasion, for the husband, the kids, or yourself, they'll have it. I can go here and complete all my Christmas shopping if I wanted to! In fact every year I make sure to participate in Thanks for Sharing! All the employees seem very friendly and professional. At one point a sales man in the shoe department took my number to keep me informed when new Coach shoes came in. Of course the husband wasn't too thrilled of the idea! I only shop at this Macy's as a last resort now. I live closest to this Macy's but I would rather drive to Walnut Creek than come here. The last time I shopped at this Macy's I was buying a bunch of clothes for a new job. I was buying quite a few items and some of them were in stock and others were not. In order for me to get all of the sale prices, they special ordered several items and for some reason split my order into several transactions (still not sure why they needed to do that). The clerk assured me that I would still get all of the sale prices but when I got home and started going over my receipt and adding everything up, I was overcharged on several items. I went back that night and spoke with another clerk who couldn't resolve the situation and eventually had to bring the manager up. The manager explained that he couldn't correct the mistakes right then because the items that had been special ordered hadn't shipped yet. He said to come back when I received my items with the shipping receipts and they would refund the difference for the price I paid and what I should have paid. Things were further complicated by the fact that I had just signed up for a macy's card to get an extra 20% off but he assured me that I would still get the 20% off from the macy's card too. It was late and I wanted to go home so I agreed. I came back when I had received everything and brought all of my receipts and my temporary macy's card and explained what had happened the last 2 times I was in the store. The manager that I spoke to was not in but the guy I spoke with basically refused to give me a refund because he said there is no way to give me the sale prices that I should have received and not lose the 20% off from the macy's card. I explained that his manager had told me otherwise but he just continued to repeat himself. In the end, his solution to "make up" the difference was to give me what he called a "gift card" for approximately the amount I was owed. It turns out that this "gift card" wasn't really a gift card and had a minimum purchase attached to it. Basically, he was telling me that I had to spend MORE money to correct a mistake that their employee had made. I was fuming mad at this point but I didn't want to waste the time and the gas to come back a fourth time. I bought a few things that I didn't really need and called it a day. read more

Came here the other weekend to buy a mother's day gift for my mom. The customer service at Lancome was exceptional. She mentioned that if I spend X amount of money, I can get some free stuff. Since I have to buy the gift set anyways, I decided to buy it here. After I paid, she tells me that I can't get the free items until after May 5th. If I knew that, I would of bought the items from the Macy's near my home instead. I don't live near this location and I have to make a special trip just to get here. read more

I just love this Macy's!!!! They have the best shoe section ever!!! Grant it, this doesn't top the Macy's om 34th street in New York but it's definitely a good one. I love their shoes!!!! I went in there in search for some purple formal shoes for a wedding I'm going to in November. I was in shoe heaven. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a shoe fetish girl like most woman are but...occassionally I see a shoe and think damn!!!!! I got to have that shoe!!!! And that's how it was shoe after shoe for me last night. I swear, I tried on about 15 pairs of shoes and had a scenario in my head of where I could wear them all to. They had sweet causal flats to OMG...those are real hookerish and I've got to get it!!!! The clearance rack is even to die for. I walked out of there with 2 pairs of shoes. I had a smile on my face with every pair I tried on. I felt so sorry for the sales rep helping me because he was back and forth in and out with shoes for my friend and I. Ohhh they were also having a shoe sale ;) Long story short, I only bought 2 and totally didn't walk out with the fly pair of Mark Fisher heels I wanted because they didn't have my size 9 1/2. The place is huge and they have lots of options but I was very disappointed with the salesperson's name LISA in the watch department yesterday. I went there to buy my husband a late Christmas gift and decided to get him a watch. I wasn't sure what kind of watch to buy so I decided to browse around a little. I must have seen 3 watches and the way she presented to me makes me feel like she didn't want to sell it to me or she makes me feel like I can't afford it. She was rude and kept saying it's too expensive. I felt belittle and poor but I bought the watch from her anyway because of my desperation for buying my husband his late Christmas gift. After I bought the watch, I kept thinking to myself how bad of a salesperson she was and how cheap she made me feel, I was angry and felt so belittled. So I told my husband about LISA and how she made me feel poor and belittled when purchasing his watch yesterday and today, we're going back to return the $600 watch because he doesn't want me to look at his risk and reminds me of the rude salesperson who I bought it from. Macy's at Stoneridge is so hit or miss. I've had employees who were great and have gone above and beyond here and I have had lazy employees who point (literally point across the store) to what you are asking for. I've rarely shopped at the men's store but did so a few weeks ago. The men's dress pants are deplorable. Sizes on hangers are 100% incorrect and they are mixed up in terms of style, brand, and color. There were no employees in sight to even help with the needle in a haystack search that would be required, so I just left. Will definitely not be coming back to the men's store. I even sent an email through the website and received no response. It looks worse than a thrift store/swap meet but still has Macy's prices. read more

We went to buy the last of our wedding china the weekend after Thanksgiving. Two of the cashiers had no idea how to help us. But one called the manager over. Joseph Hiralez. This kind man took our frustration with a smile the whole time. He searched until he found the correct pieces we needed and it wasn't easy since they come in sets. He spent probably 45 minutes assisting us until everything was done. Including purchasing some Christmas china that was discounted. The last 3 experiences with Macy's management have been superior. Macy's didn't used to be like this. They have changed the old way and cater to customer service now apparently. I shop there anyway but now I'm happy to support them and give them my business. This is a nice Men's Macy's, it is three levels and also includes the housewares section, which during the holidays always boasts some pretty great deals. On this particular trip I was aiming to get a new suitcase. They had a huge selection and really competitive pricing. I was surprised. They beat out Kohl's AND Sears in price and quality and once I added in the 10% Coupon I had it was a done deal. read more

For the watch department: they are obviously trying to make a sell but they are really good at listening to the styles you are interested in. They don't have a huge selection but compared to the other Macy's in the area, they are the biggest selection you can get. This particular Macy's is much smaller and contains much LESS products and goods compare to other Macy's. I love macy's though, but it's hard to find good stuff here since there isn't much stuff, and the teen section took up half of the place. The clothing from teen section all look like clothes from Goodwill, not Macy's. This Macy's has really gone down hill (like Macy's in general). Seriously, Macy's and Stoneridge Mall used to be an upper echelon/better mall which is why people were willing to travel their (than say Bayfair or Hiltop). They chose that mall and that Macy's store for the experience. I was just at this Macy's last Saturday to take advantage of their sale and I was not at all impressed. I was looking for a suit, in the suit department, and the only positive thing I'll say about that particular area is that everything was on a hanger. Besides that however, my experience was the same as it would have been had I gone to TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross or Burlington Coat Factory (which is where I went to later on in the day). None of the employees helped me find my suit, I was not offered a free sizing/measurement, the suits were not organized by size, or under the correct name brand signage... Yet Macy's wants me to pay full price?! Thanks, but no thanks! read more

I was training for work in San Ramon and decided to look for suits at Stoneridge mall. I went to Macy's and walk through quickly look over some deals but I didn't see anything in particular that I liked. So I left and took the escalater to Men's Wearhouse. They showed me some nice suits but the sales person kept pushing shoes and belts after I declined. The two suits I liked were on sale but I wanted to give Macy's a second look. Lucky for me, I found a section of marked down Kenneth Cole suits. A kind lady named Latoya helped me organize the suits I wanted and give me exact prices. It's a beautiful store, but... well, if you've read any of my other reviews, I tend to weigh customer service very heavily. This Macy's is huge, clean, and laid out well... but the employees hover around their departments like a basketball team that only sticks to zone defense. If you are looking for something in particular and they're department doesn't have it, they are more than happy to send you packing. Remember back in the day when SA's would walk you over to what you needed (rather than a roll of the eyes and a half-hearted point). I like the selection of dresses here which I do suggest to friends time to time n was able to grab a few to try on. A few of the fitting rooms need to be checked because of left over clothes but was able to get a room that was clean n empty. The ringer at the register was really slow she didn't acknowledge anyone in her line that was about to get longer because of how slow she was. She didn't ask to be a client and I had my coupon out she didn't suggest better ways of using my coupons. I realized there were other coupons offered n told her I wanted to us it fir these items n she said that she had to ring everything up agn when all she had to do was go back n take out 2 items. After she rang n finished one transaction with me she should already know that some of the items I wanted to get had deals that wouldn't work on certain items n I only picked one coupon thinking it would work but when it didn't I wanted to try the others n the lady was all like but I need to ring it up agn I said then yes ring it up agn I don't want to miss out on any deals I can get n she said no it won't work coz of the special item I had I had her ring agn the last 2 items n clicked to try all the coupons n one went through n I saved $7 I said see n she was quite coz she knew she was rude for trying to not let me get that savings n she was wrong. Went by fragrance counter n there was no one at all there passing out cards to show anything just no one at all the second time I passed by. I like this Macy's because you can get in and out really fast. It took me less than 15 minutes at the Coach counter to get in, purchase and get out. I like that. The only things I don't like is the fact that they don't carry larger size shoes. I wear an 11. They carry some 10s. Sometimes the junior department is really messy. When I was in high school, I got a formal dress for $20 after discounts and my mom opening a Macy's card. Looked like a Cinderella dress! read more

I usually limit my reviews to food but my experience today at Macy's was outstanding. I am not a fan of clothes shopping but needed some new sweats, socks, and t-shirts. There was a lot of stuff on sale and the clerk gave me a coupon for additoinal off. She knew my name from asking and carried my stuff to the counter. Another woman led the group (taller African American woman) and she was extremely helpful along with the clerk who does the check out. I was basically shocked. Clothers are a commodity at best so I just did not expect any of this thoughtful service. I will return in another year or two when I need clothes again. read more

After having generally good experiences at Macy's as a kid in tow behind my mom, I've tried shopping there as an adult 1-2 times over the last 2-3 years, but both experiences left me upset and confused. The first time, I ordered online for in-store pickup at this location, and when I arrived, not only did they make me go to each individual department (women's clothes, men's clothes - in a different part of the mall entirely, and jewelry) to pick up each item one by one, but some departments hadn't even pulled the items off the shelf, so I was lucky there were some of what I'd bought left. No "convenience" whatsoever was gained from online ordering and in-store pickup, only allowing them to take my money first and then run me around the store anyway. Further, when I first arrived at the store, the woman behind the jewelry counter immediately made me feel ridiculed for thinking Macy's might have gathered the order together (like Nordstrom does without issue) and then, perhaps assuming I was stupid?, explained to me repeatedly that same thing again and again while I couldn't get a word in edgewise. She then made aggressive and prying small talk while I tried to just get the jewelry item I had purchased and leave - I had to stop myself from just walking out and requesting a refund through the website. Then again, I bought an engagement ring for my fiance online, a pretty spendy purchase as far as I'm concerned, but the proposal did not happen until almost 2 years later. I realized I had gotten the wrong size and that tungsten cannot be resized, so I went in person to the store to see if any exchange could be done, even for something of similar but lesser value given the time that had passed. Again, I encounter the same lady at the jewelry department -- this time I made note of her name, Elizabeth. She was texting at the counter on her cell phone while simultaneously holding the register phone up to her ear, facing away from the store and customers, so I didn't recognize her until I said hello and she turned. I had barely finished explaining my situation when she immediately started repeating, "I can't help you with that, the return policy is 60 days, it would be up to the manager, I can't help you with that, the manager is out until tomorrow, I wish I could help you but I can't, only the manager can help you maybe" with an expression that seemed gleeful that she wouldn't actually have to do anything to help. All at once, she was condescending, saccharine, and dismissive. She did eventually give me her manager's card and again tried to make difficult small talk, asking about the proposal and then exclaiming in surprise when she learned it had been me, the woman in the relationship, who had proposed. We asked to use the ring sizer so that my fiance could know what size to get me (but, as we both were thinking, definitely not at Macy's), and as she produced it, we noticed that the undersides of her fingernails had a thick crust of dirt underneath. After getting my size, she said she was going to give us her manager's telephone extension -- wait, wasn't it on the business card? Apparently not, and if we'd just walked away, we wouldn't have actually had the manager's number. As we left, she repeated, "I'd really like to help you but only the manager can help you" a few more times. I knew as I walked out that I was done with Macy's forever, shame on me for hoping for a better experience than last time. Further, the exchange policy is confusing - there is no mention of a deadline on the articles on the website that specifically state "exchanges;" the deadlines are only on the ones that just say "refunds." Online, the general -refund- policy is 180 days and jewelry is 60 days; no answer about exchanges. I went online afterward to see if I could get a more helpful response but was told the deadline for -exchanges- was 30 days - wait, what? I was told -exchange- policies for the online store were "different" ... there was nothing about exchange deadlines on the website, and I guess exchanges is even shorter than what is posted online about -refunds-?. I'm giving up now; frustrated and sad that I decided to give Macy's any more business, let alone such a significant purchase in my life (I'd used that ring to propose, but it's just going to sit in a drawer now, I guess). Add this on to declining product quality (a necklace I bought discolored blue after 1-2 wears), staffing issues, etc. - maybe it is time for Macy's to follow Sears and finally expire. read more

Typically I don't like Macy's because their coupons usually don't apply to whatever I'm buying, however, today I had my best Macy's experience. While waiting in line to buy my new Jessica Simpson rain booties, I was kicking myself for not having gotten them last weekend when they were on a better sale. When I got up to the saleswoman to purchase the shoes, she dug around at her counter until she could find a $20 off coupon for me to use! I was so appreciative of her generosity to do that for me. Celeste, that works in the Women's and Men's area, was so helpful every time I went to pick up an online order. She went above and beyond in her service when she did not have to. I really appreciated it. I also want to highlight and thank Lilli that works in the Handbags area because she is so knowledgeable about the different handbags and purses. Her knowledge and expertise have helped me to pick out some of my favorite handbags while receiving excellent service from her every time. Wow, this Macy's is so much nicer than Broadway Plaza or Sunvalley Mall. Things here are very tidy and organized. However, I couldn't find anything to buy. I have had a gift card for months now, and I'm dying to spend it on something special. But all I can find at Macy's is boring, boring, and more boring! I will give this Macy's credit for having better organization and tidiness, but that doesn't change the fact that something is very un-special about their merchandise. True, they do carry some cute brands, but their racks are overflowing and there are SALE signs galore. Why should I bother buying now when tomorrow it will be on sale for even deeper discounts? There is no motivation for me to buy anything right now. I guess I am going to wait until later to spend this gift card. Probably on towels and lotion. The most exciting thing I could buy is most likely new running shoes. No matter how hard I try to find something special, I just can't. I have been ordering from Macy's for a while. Been ordering my favorite pair of pants without problems until recently. I ordered two pairs of Dockers pants and when I got them, they were missing multiple tags. One sticker even looked like it was peeled off at one point. The other one had a re-ticketing tag on it. I didn't realize that I would be getting items that were already worn. So I shrug it off and keep them. Then comes this great sale. I order a pair of my favorite shorts and a package of underwear. When I get the order, the shorts were fine but the boxers were mediums. I had to do a double take, my email says I ordered smalls but the shipping says I ordered mediums. I had to go into my account and it says I ordered smalls but they cancelled them and sent me medium. Without telling me. I don't wear baggy underwear so I decided to email Macy's. I tell them I ordered smalls, got mediums. I wait a day and around 9pm, I get an email that basically says, "Upon checking, I see that Medium size was placed on your order. Therefore I'm unable to process a reshipment." I was flabbergasted and mad. I decided to make use of Macy's phone service at that late hour. The person over the phone said the same thing to me. Told me I ordered mediums and couldn't send me smalls. I told him, I ordered smalls and you cancelled my smalls and sent me mediums. Then he finally agreed with me and we set up another order for small underwear. I got all happy because, finally I get my underwear. Yes, underwear of all things. I decide to return the medium underwear from the original order in person and the person at the Stoneridge Mall doesn't bat an eye. Whatever, I am getting my smalls. What do I end up getting instead about a week later? Another package of mediums! Well now you not only fooled me once but twice! I figure out Sunvalley Mall might have that same underwear but I decide to return the second package of medium at Stoneridge Mall and be done with it. This becomes my second trip in the same week. I go downstairs and return the second package of mediums. I tell the lady that I was disappointed. Lady asks me if they carry it at Stoneridge. I tell her Sun Valley has it. The lady tries to apologize but is rude and uncaring. Well that's it. No more Macy's for me. I gave you enough chances but you screwed them all up. I am not going to order more clothing so I can get more mediums or items that have already been worn. Macy's doesn't have a monopoly on crappy clothing anyways. read more

I'm usually not a fan of Macy's just because their customer service is hit or miss, but this time it was a hit! I came in wanting a down comforter because my room in SF has been freezing cold recently. Walking in, I took a look at the ones on display. An employee asked if I had any questions and answered any questions I had regarding the different levels of down comforters. I was going back and forth between the Charter Club version and the Hotel Collection version, she calculated them all out with the discounts (60% off + 10% off with a Macy's card + 15% with a new Macy's account). I ended up spending only $100 on a down comforter worth $400! Even though I could've had a bigger percentage savings going with the Hotel Collection version, I couldn't quite justify spending so much on bedding at this point in my life. I haven't tried out my purchase yet, but the service level at this store was worth the trip! read more

Despite all the good reviews, I must have hit a "miss" instead of a "hit". After work, I thought it may be a good idea to finally purchase my husband's Christmas present. So I went to Macy's to hopefully just make a quick purchase knowing exactly what I wanted. I walked in, grabbed the shoe I wanted and waited to find someone to help me. All the sales associates on the floor were walking around me completely ignoring my existence, so I walked to the register and notified an associate that I knew exactly what I wanted and that I just needed a size. He said, "Ok you'll have to hold on until I finish up with a customer." It was understandable. At least until another couple walks up and he walks straight over to them to ask if they needed help with anything. Excuse me? I believe I was ready to make a purchase. So I found another sales associate, who actually was WILLING to help me. On the way out I saw a shirt that my brother would like, but it was placed in the wrong rack. I asked a cashier who was standing there waiting for a customer if it be possible to check if they had that shirt in another size. She pointed in one direction and said to "look somewhere over there to see if we have it in another size". I'd pretty much had enough of this HORRIBLE customer service at this point and just told her to scan the thing and the computer would say if that location carried it. I admit, not my finest moment, but come on! Maybe I'll go again some other day because the cologne section is actually pretty good, but for now...the anger still lingers. read more

It took Macy's just shy of a month to credit my account. I only wish the circumstances and my customer experience had been positive, timely and handled with better care. I'm disappointed that the management did not see or hear a need for customer recovery in light of all the challenges of trying to make not one but two purchases with Macy's Stoneridge store. 1) never received original macys.com order of 1/27 2) re-ordered same item online for store pick up to get into store and item is packaged for me and damaged. 3) this prompted the entire dialogue w/Store management via email and me completing customer survey 4) taking almost 4 weeks for credit, told by their customer service rep -Alex in South America the credit was done incorrectly on their end. Never mind that I was under pressure to find a cocktail dress, when we realized the damage one was not acceptable. I had to rush around your store and find another garment within a limited time and with no employee engagement to offer assistance. This store made no effort over and above to renew my faith in shopping at Macy's. I would have liked a letter of apology and some form of compensation for my inconvenience and frustration. It's apparent I don't matter to Macy's. I will shop at Macy's Walnut Creek or San Francisco Union Square. The best option, because of how I have been handled is now anything Macy's has in sale, I can call Nordstrom and they will price match and that's where I will spend my hard earned dollars. I just purchased 2 Michael Kors dresses the were in sale at Macy's via Nordstrom price match program, so guess where I will shop now and who has my customer loyalty? read more

I was at Macys on November 26th 2018. Customer service through out the store was terrible. Started in the Jewelry department the rudeness then up to the second floor the rudeness there too. Then the men's department could not get any help. No one knows everything. Everyone dressed like they are going grocery shopping. En route to a bridal shower the other day, I stopped in at Macy's in Stoneridge, to find a gift in the lingerie dept. There was absolutely nothing of interest in that department. Unless you like polyester. I didn't find any pretty silk nighties or anything interesting at all! Might be ok for basic everyday stuff, but I'd prefer to have a greater selection of SF Macy's. The home department was better. I at least found some stuff off the gift registry, and the clerk gave me the friends/family discount. So I didn't go to the shower empty-handed. read more

I never used to be a Macy's fan. I assumed they were overpriced. But then a friend started dragging me there and we shopped the clearance racks and sales. Now, I LOVE Macy's!!! This is my favorite Macy's store. The clothes fit very well and I can always find shoes that work for me (my feet have issues of their own...BEYOND, my issues). The best thing about Macy's along, with the sales, is that I have never had a problem returning anything. It's worth shopping there!! read more
