After walking around with my family and being harassed and stalked by an associate who WASN'T even on the clock I decided to just drop all my items and save my time. After finally feeling threatened enough by an associate (an older Asian woman who seems to work in the men's department) I asked if she was ok. She replied that she was seeing what I was doing in the polo department. Wtf kinda shopping experience is THAT?!!!! If you are not Caucasian or Asian apparently, avoid shopping near this employee!!!!! Save your time and money, no one should be judged or discriminated the way I was. And I WAS NOT just walking around with nothing, I had a shopping bag full of shoes from foot locker but she obviously must have thought that was stolen. I hope to hear from the Macy's management department soon because this experience was BEYOND both disrespectful AND discriminative!!! This is a review for the Mens Finishline department they are idiots all of them!! The bald white guy and the the filipino chick and the filipino guy i had a 20 dollar reward which works on EVERYTHING but they didnt pass it on Nike fingertraps I proceeded to call Finishlines 800 number in front of them put em on speaker and had them inform them that they in fact should pass my coupon on the Nikes I wanted to purchase they all had there heads so far up there asses that they still didnt budge i literally spend 1000's a year on Nikes at finishline and know the ins and out i know that i could even double up on coupons if the shoes are on sale and one of the coupons is a reward i went to the Nike Clearance store the day after and found the Nike Fingertrap max shoes the following day for 51 bucks plus tax (about 100 dollars less than finishline) as well as Red Airmax 2014 ($70) Airmax Flyknits ($77) they had a 30% off sale so thats the reason i got those amazing deals I still like finishline but they should train the people they hire at this location properly from now on ill be making the majority of my sneaker purchases at the Nike Clearance store I'm leaving 2 stars although they deserve 0 because Yelp will flag my post if i only give them 1 read more

Been coming to Macys and this mall since the 1980s. Both the mall and this location have really gone downhill. I like Macy's, but this location looks old, the staff are hit or miss. Some staff, especially on the third floor have great product knowledge. Others know nothing and have rude, low class attitudes. I get the feeling some of the employees work here to avoid working a McJob. The place can look dumpy as well. Other Macy's locations such as Stanford are superior over this location. read more

I don't think Macy's should get one star reviews, the store has good clothing and unlike Kohl's, which has clothes that don't fit, this place has more sizes, not to small and not too big. They have more quality men's clothing than Nordstrom. But the upper management at Macy's is the problem with the store itself. The managers always watch their workers and intimidate them with getting more customers. The managers should train their employees better and not treat them badly, they are putting effort, but the managers are really bossy, and even like to annoy customers when they walk around. The customer service needs improvement, they should help the customers when they need it, and not forcing customers. Also make your stores clean and organized. read more

How funny that I went to yelp Macy's and found that I had already started a review 8 months ago and never finished it. All I had written down was nice bras but bad customer services. Funny that it is in fact ..once again, the bad customer services that has lead me to finish my review almost a year later...I guess some things never change. I bought a shirt a few weeks ago and took the tags off thinking I was going to keep it. Well a couple of days ago I found another shirt that was almost identical and at half the price. Not being able to find the tag I went on line to see what their return policy was. After reading it over i couldn't find anywhere that stated you must have the tag. I had the receipt that was emailed to me and the shirt had never been worn so I assumed I wouldn't have a problem. ...That was my first mistake, OK, I guess my second, my first was buying anything from there in the first place. Anyway, I went in and found the first customer service desk and explained I had the receipt but no tag. The girl looked perplexed (as if this has never happened before?) and told me I had to go to the department where I purchased the shirt. I was fine with that considering I lost the tag and knew that I might come across some obstinacy. So I calmly headed upstairs to return the shirt in the INC department. Once I got upstairs I again explained the ...have a receipt, and no tag scenario. The sales Representative huffed and puffed as if she was completely put out returned the shirt. As she put the new tag on she quipped "You really should have the tag next time!" Well that pretty much set me off and I said "I know that would have been easier for you but your story policy doesn't insist that I have the tag". She then started to say that it was common sense....Common freaking sense?!??! Yes I know what common sense is as I went online to check the store policy first. At that point I was pretty peeved and told her I didn't appreciate her tone. We argued about the story policy and i asked her to show me where it say I needed the tag. She then told me that it says the items have to be sellable. WTF?!??! Aren't you putting a tag on it to sell it??!!! Right now! In front of my very eyes!?!?! At that point she had nothing to say and refunded me my money. I then went home and sent a letter to corporate and of course never heard back from them (even though I check the boxed requesting a reply). It was also quite funny on my recent (albeit reluctant) trip there with a friend to pick up something she had purchased on hold. Tried returning an item that I bought a month or two ago to a Clinique counter and the lady at the register gave me a bad look, forced me into exchanging the item for something I did not need, made me feel horrible, kept questioning me why I wanted to return it and kept telling me that it works "amazing" for her. Macy's to me has always had stores that have have been hit or miss. This location seems to have a pretty good selection and is better than a lot of their locations. We went here to find a dress for my wife and we were able to find one pretty easily. The one difference I've noticed that has changed over the years is the staff does little more than help ring up your order. There's not anyone to help locate other sizes and things. I think that's just retail these days. My wife picked out a few things to try on and I ended up being the one to go find other sizes and options. There was one dress we couldn't find in her size, but we found other options. Of course this location is much better than one I went to a few times and you couldn't even find someone to ring you up and when you'd go to another department to check out you would get ,"That's not my department." Fortunately this experience was much better than that. The woman who checked us out at this location was helpful and noticed there was a mark on the dress my wife picked out and looked in the computer to see if there were any others. I had order a blender on-line and paid on line. I choose to pick up at the Hillsdale location. I arrived the designated area for pick up, the cashier told me to line up. I told the cashier that I already paid on line and only need to pick up, the cashier still insisted I need to line up. At time six customers were in line waiting to pay for their purchases and two cashier were working at the same counter. I waited 17 minutes and ended up with the same cashier. It took me 2 minutes pick up my item. The cashier did not even said "Thank you for waiting or thank you for shopping at Macy's or sorry for keeping you wait!" to at less make me feel better. She seemly enjoying her victory. I went home and wrote a complaint to Macy's .com , and guess what? Not even a reply email regarding sorry for my experience. This is a very bad experience. My boyfriend and I went to buy him a fine fragrance and we found one we liked. After about 20 minutes of us just standing there, waiting for an associate to walk by so we could ask for help, we left. I went back today to try and get the cologne. I knew exactly what I wanted so I walked straight there and waited right next to the registers. Finally, as associate comes by. She walked right passed me and went on to help an elder lady standing near me. The associate asked if she was doing alright and if she needed help with anything. The woman did need some help so the associate began helping her. I stood next to them for about 10 minutes, hoping she would just quickly ask if there's anything she can do to help me and I would say that I just want to make a purchase. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind her helping the lady. I just wished she would've given me even the slightest acknowledgment. The elder lady was talking to herself quite a lot and was making decisions on her own while the associate just stood there quiet. I work in retail as well and I know for a fact that this was prime time to check with other shoppers around you and see if they're doing okay. Nope, not even a look towards my way. So I walked away and asked another associate to help me. He said he couldn't leave his table but he would send someone down. Back down the stairs I go. Saw the same, former associate again and she actually spoke to me. She told me she was with another customer, so it was going to 'be a minute.' Again, I understand retail... if you can't tend to the customer, get someone else to do it. I waited another 17 minutes (I was counting how long it would take them) and finally another associate came by me and rung me up. I had to return some items I purchased online, and I'll be using the return mail service next time. This is BY FAR the messiest Macy's store I have ever visited. Honestly, I don't think I've even been in a discount store like Marshall's or TJ Maxx that was as messy. (And this was in the middle of the day in the middle of the week; no big sales in process or anything.) Have you ever looked into a sloppy teenage girl's bedroom? Clothes piled on the floor and on every surface, shoes strewn all over, chairs all askew. Except for the cosmetics & perfume section, staff seemed completely uninterested in tidying up their departments. They clearly had no pride in their work or workplace. I was scared to seek out the ladies' room -- I can only imagine what kind of tornado appears to have gone through there. Macy's customer service is second to none! I had a problem with a "trade-up" program from LeVian, one of Macy's jewelry suppliers. I purchased the original item from Macy's Valley Fair in 2013, and exercised the trade-up at a LeVian Trunk Show at Macy's Hillsdale Mall earlier this year. The Macy's people in the Fine Jewelry Department (Analiza and Claudia at Hillsdale, and George at Valley Fair) went out of their way to resolve the problem for me. This Macy's is close to my work so I come here often and every time I come here there are never any cash registers open or if there is the lines are ridiculous. While all the cosmetic people are standing around and the customers are in search for a register that has a sensor remover. So you will spend most of your time walking all over the place trying to find one. I feel bad for their employees. I love the products and the great sales at Macys!...But I HATE the service, the almost nonexistent service. It seems like 80% of the time I can't find someone to help me in the jewelry, clothing, and handbag department. When I go to the shoe department there is usually only one or two employees, and they need to be retrained or replaced, because customer service is seriously lacking. Macy's needs to increase the standard they set for the employees they hire in some of the departments. Some people look miserable, some seriously look like they don't want to help you, and some are just plain incompetent. If I wasn't such a fan of the products and sales, I'd never come back. Beware price gouging!! Macy's is a rip off if you are buying Dyson heaters and fans. The Pure hot and cool link retails at $599.00 everywhere else but at Macy's it's $999. That's a $400 markup! I saw other Dyson fans also marked up so this clearly isn't a mistake. When I called the store in Stanford the assistant told me that their prices are often higher but this was on their web site too. This is my go to Macy's instead of Serramonte or Stonestown. However, last few times I feel that the store has gotten worst with lots of clearance stuff and not enough new styles. Macy's was my main store for many many years, I have a AX Macy's credit card and use it to buy everything. But I am so done with Macy's. Today was Black Friday, got up early to shop all the sales there before 1:00pm. But can't use not one coupon. They send all these coupons in the mail and you can't never use even one. The sales clerk told me today that none of the coupons worked on any items. So why does Macy spend much money sending out these so call discount coupons if they are not going to except them? In yesterday paper there was a $10.00 coupon to be used if you spent $25.00. But you guessed it, can't be used on anything at all. What kind of business is ran like this? It saddens me to write this review as this was my "go to" Macy's years ago. No doubt the "great recession" along with competition from online and discount stores, (TJ Max, Ross, etc) have impacted what their buyer's choose to bring into the store. I give above average points to the Charter Club brand including home linens, men's and accessories, but women's clothing on second floor needs a major overhaul. Thankfully, they do carry a decent selection of petites and regular size from Charter Club and Alfani, but some of the "casual" wear brands remind me of the old Mervyns and Kohls. The Style and Co. line has taken a dive in quality as well. Maybe it's just this location. read more

Macy's has really gone down hill. First off when the store decided to change the way the coupons work I became skeptical. Every time you went to the counter to pay the clerk will tell you the item you pick does not apply to the advertising coupon!! Hours of shopping for nothing! The coupons never work with their daily specials, or morning specials, or deal of the day specials, or everyday specials, etc.... why do they even spend the money to print up a coupon. I guess they don't believe in going GREEN cause their coupons are pretty much garbage! As a matter of fact they sent me a birthday coupon for $10 off $30.00.... WHY???? Its March 22, and still every time I've gone to the store the CLERK TELLS ME THE COUPON DOESNT APPLY! Next, they have closed down 50% of the dressing rooms. Every time you go to try an item off the dressing room is shut down either with a piece of ply wood blocking the door entrance or a note on the door saying CLOSED! Plan on waiting "FOREVER" in line to try something on. Finally today, I waited 40 min. in line to pay for my goods. Although the clerk honored the coupon which stated morning special till 2:00 only. He did give me the discount only because @ 1:45 I got in line to pay and I did not get my turn to pay till @ 2:25! I will throw away all coupons I receive from Macy's from now on. When I went here the fitting rooms in the Ralph Lauren section were a disaster. Clothes were just piled on the floor and nobody seemed to bother refolding them. When I was ready to check out nobody really seemed interested in ringing up the sale. It's as if the employees play hide and seek. This review is specifically for the Chanel counter in the beauty department. Brief background, my mom and I took a quick trip to San Fran about 2 months ago. While shopping she purchased the new Le Blanc skincare line from the Chanel counter at the Macys near Union Square. She is one of those people that takes things out of boxes immediately after purchase but they can sit there for a month or so before she even tries it. Well, this is no different...she JUST got to trying the new Chanel line and she literally broke out in hives. LOL. So, because she isnt looking her best I offered to return the products for her. We do not have the old receipt (since it has been 2 months) but I have her credit card and assume as most modern places they can just look it up the products using her credit card number....most stores have a customer history. read more

I went into Hillsdale for athletic shoes (needed to try on) and slacks but discovered my Macy's account was closed due to inactivity because I've used a bank Visa (but often Macy's) spending literally thousands over the years at Macy's. Three telephone conversations later with several people and over 35 minutes (mostly on hold), I was declined. I've never been declined for credit, I'm 71 years old w/excellent credit (my Macy's account was used 30 years! I worked for Macy's 20 years!). It was just the absurdity of a department store credit card (I wanted the additional discount) wasting my time and the excellent, very patient Macy's Finish Line associate ROBERT. Afterward, I was going to go to Macy's for their same online Visa discount but I've decided to use Amazon like my children do and who often tell me what a dinosaur I am purchasing at Macy's. I came here to pick up an order I had placed online. The sales associate who helped me, Tina, was extremely rude and impatient. She didn't greet me, and when I gave her my order slip, she rolled her eyes and told me to tell her what I needed rather than look at my order slip. Later, she could not find my order, so she asked for the credit card I had used to purchase my order for her to look up. Like any other person, I have multiple credit cards, so I had to figure out which one I had used. While doing so, she had the nerve to ask what I was doing and if I could hurry up. She then demanded that I give her my Macy's credit card. Well, how can I when I don't have one? (Never have, never will.) When I found the credit card I had used, she still was unable to find my order and eventually had to call another sales associate for assistance. That sales associate was just as rude, but was able to locate my order. Nonetheless, they both acted like I was an annoyance--even when the store was not busy (it was 2:00 PM in the afternoon on a Tuesday). I am still shocked at how poorly I was treated. I have been shopping at my local Hilldale Macy's for many years. A couple of the higher end departments are an embarrassment. Impulse on the first floor and the regular sportswear departments need some management and supervision. Could be they just need more salespeople. I only saw 3 salespeople on the whole entire 2nd floor that day. I was looking for a particular item in the Impulse department during the week. It was not very busy in the store. There was not one salesperson in that entire department. I went to browse in another department for a while and came back.....still no sales person. There were clothes piled on the sales counter. Then I went upstairs. I found a few items I wanted to try on. The dressing rooms looked like a bomb went off in them. Not only were most of the dressing room doors damaged but they were so full of clothes hanging everywhere and I the floor I had to try four different rooms to find one that I could try my clothes on in. When I walked out to put the clothes on the rack I didn't want there wasn't any room. The couch outside the dressing rooms were piled high with clothes also. It is really an unpleasant experience shopping in some the the department in this store, It has been this way for a long time now and hope it starts improving, I will probably just drive down to the Stanford store if I want to have a pleasant shopping experience. read more

I usually love this Macy's which is why I will take the time to write two reviews. This review is soley dedicated to the Fine Jewelry department. A little over a year ago I bought a ring on sale in their FJ dept. It was an Opal ring that I loved. A few weeks ago the stone popped out and luckily I was able to find it. I thought it would be easy to go to the store and explain what had happened espcially since I had not had it for serveral years. I spoke to the first associate I found and explained what had happened. She then immediatly said that I could either go to downtown San Mateo to a "guy" she knew and have it fixed or they could take my ring and send it out to see how much it would cost me to get it fixed. I then explained that it had only been about year since purchasing and that I felt they should be paying for the repairs. The associate was very rude at this point and said that she could not help me. I then said don't you care of the poor quality, that the ring's stone fell out in only a year. The associate then clearly said NO she did not care that things happen. I understand store policy but this is just a plain and simple example of terrible customer service. I do understand that they need to follow protcol but to state that she did not care that the product I purchased in the store broke is HORRIBLE. I will shop in every dept in this store but FJ. It just is dissapointing that one rude sales person can ruin an experience, that in the past has always been so plesant. read more

This review is late but i have to share my horrendous experience here. i don't think there is a worst Macy's than the one in Hillsdale. Living in the city has jaded me with retail experiences. I usually go to the Macy's Stonestown and it is always pleasant. Fast forward months later and now living in the peninsula going to Hillsdale seems only logical since it so much closer. I was dead wrong! First off, it seems like everything is disorganized. i came to the watch counter to purchase a watch for my cousin's 30th birthday. i literally waited almost 15 min for anyone to even acknowledge me. Customer service is beyond bad. The woman that helped seemed bored out her mind and didn't seem to give a rats ass about helping me out. At this point, out of frustration i left. I walked over to Nordstroms where i ended finding the perfect funky Betsy Johnson watch i knew my cousin would love. The sale girl Melissa was SO attentive and gracious. i asked to see so many different watches in different styles and she was extremely patient and gave some amazing suggestions. If I could give zero stars I would. Customer service is usually bad in Macys, but I've put up with it before. This was a new low. My wife bought me a watch for my birthday. Not sure how much it was exactly, but it was several hundred dollars. It is considered to be a 'fine' watch. It's not a rolex , but you get the idea. I went back 3 days after My wife bought it. It was still in the box and we had the receipt. I wanted to get it sized as it was too big. We got such a run around. One lady told us to goto the jewelry counter. The twoman there says she does not size watches. I went back to the watch counter and they said got back to the jewelry counter. The lady there wouldn't even make eye contact. If i was not with my wife and kids I probally would have gotten myself kicked out of the store. They have no problem selling the watch, but taking care of the customer after seems not to be their business. I finally found someone and said I wanted to return it be cause I can not wear it as is, then finally, they size it. The woman said something like "we didn't think that you bought it here". We had the receipt, box and were trying to tell people we just bought for like 45 minutes!!!!!! I can believe people still spend their money there. I wanted to curse out the worker there, but really, they were all old ladies who did not speak English, so what can you do. I've had way better service overseas buying a five dollar item. I went here today and I was planning to spend a good amount of money on make ups, but got so turned off with the customer service. I wanted the lady at smashbox to help me out with their product but she was too busy so she had asked another make up artist from a different brand to help me out. I was told that it will only take a few minutes for the lady to come and help me, so I patiently waited. Anyhow, the lady who was supposed to help me came and asked me what I wanted and when I told her what products I was interested in, she immediately said that she couldn't do it coz' she's just too busy at her counter and that they're understaffed--She wanted me to wait for another 10 minutes! I would have been ok with this but she just had an attitude in the manner that she said it. From the looks of it, she was annoyed to be helping someone from a different make up counter. I declined to be helped by this lady because I was truly truly so turned off by her attitude! The lady works at the counter right next to the Philosophy products--I failed to get the her name so I could complain to Macy's customer service for this! This employee needs to learn how to treat a customer right. I don't think I'll ever want to go back and buy anything from this store again! read more

If there was an option to submit zero stars I would do it. Macy's Hillsdale is the worst Macys I've visited ever. To be honest I gave them before many chances but I decided finally to write my review after deciding not to step any macy's ever again. First issues began when I put some stuff on hold to notice later that they were thrown back to the shelves when talking to a manager she said ohhhh sorry u can go and shop again for sure I didn't cuz I spent several hours collecting them, they have the worst customer support I've ever seen, they don't even bother their selves to check for any size or item or color they answer immediately we dont have. The employees r overworked and kicking each other to make their sales/comission, and no enough sale persons on the floor was chasing around and around to find someone to pay for my stuff. The smell in the fitting rooms is really disgusting. Had very bad experience with an employee who was absolutely rude to me and to my husband.
