You will never get another dollar from my family or friends. Your return policy is a joke. Why don't you post your return policy in your front window?? I bought 3 t shirts at your San Jose store. I usually buy them every year so I am familiar with the fit. This time the fit is soooo off that no matter what size I would get, they would not fit. I brought them back to the San Mateo Store, and was told I would have to drive back to San Jose to return them, because that is where they were purchased. They would not even give a store credit, and you CAN NOT exchange them for another style shirt. This is pure insanity. They have lost all perspective with regards to customer service. Not sure who is running this, but let me explain something in case they actually read this. 1. Gas is $6.00 a gallon....so I am not driving back to San Jose. The gas would cost more than the 3 T shirts. 2. I can buy the same T shirts you sell, (and other items) at Costco, Macys, Kohls, Gap etc etc... They want my business. 3. I was a loyal customer, did most of my Xmas shopping at your store. Never again... 4. In case the rocket scientists that are making the policies have a change of heart, remember you will never get back the customers you have lost. 5. If you are going to have a policy like this you need to post it in the front window of your store, or at least put ink in your register tape. I had some shorts that were clearly defective. They refused to take them back, or exchange them, or give me some type of credit or anything. The seam was not sewn in at all, so it just came apart (the thread was all there, but the stitch was not deep enough - if I am saying that correctly). Anyway. Mistakes happen. TL;DR: A small yet nice affordable clothing store in Hillsdale. Thoughts: Uniqlo is my go-to whenever I need to buy more clothes. I had shopped at this location a few times during the pandemic and my shopping experience had been quite smooth! They limited the number of people in the store to make sure it's not too crowded. This Uniqlo is a bit on the smaller side compared to the ones in Emeryville and San Francisco. Tips: 1. It's located on the second floor right across from Macy's. 2. I love me some Uniqlo so of course I gladly checked out this Uniqlo in the HIllsdale Mall. It's not as large as some of the other Uniqlo stores but it has all the basics that you need. I did see a few sales sections here. I got this adorable Thomas Paul sweatshirt with polka dots up and down the arms and a cute pair of glasses on the front for only $20. Sales tax here is 9.25% though (in San Mateo) so keep that in mind because the sales tax is cheaper in some of the other Uniqlo storess. read more

I feel bad for leaving a bad review but Uniqlo's online return policy is stupid & inconvenient and the store manager's attitude didn't make it any better (talks to you as if you're retarded). I was planning to return an online order in store while picking up an online order (both online orders). The return policy (unbeknownst to me) for online order is you can ONLY return via mail which you'd have to pay $7 (deducted from refund amount) = you can't return to the store. I know other stores which have similar policy for return shipping but you can always return to the store for free. You can however exchange your online order for any instore item(s). Needless to say, I left the store annoyed. As I was walking the idea came up: what if I exchange the online order w/ an instore item that cost a bit more then I'll just return the instore item I just purchased? So I went back in and asked a store associate if I my idea is permitted and she said yes. I proceed to the counter with my instore item. The manager had to assist with the online order return which she was already unhappy about then when I asked to return the store item I just purchased she was furious. She said I'm not allowed to use this loophole (which I mentioned I confirmed with a store associate beforehand) and she is the manager! Instead of training store associates better she attacks & puts the blame on the customer! TLDR; if you're thinking about placing an online order at Uniqlo you better be certain you're keeping it! This place rocks. It's one of the very few stores that has XS clothes without you having to pay an arm and a leg for that privilege. If you are short, small frame, you know how difficult it is to find clothes smaller than M. This places has all items in XS. I'm sold on just that. But it's more than that. It's hip. It's cool, and the prices are great. I picked up a down puffy jacket that was wind and water resistant marked down from $79 to $49. Again, and I cannot emphasize this any more clearly, they have XS!!!!!! Another cool item that I got was their heattech shirts. I was a little skeptical to their claims of being significantly warmer that standard shirts in light of their sheer like feel. They are made of 40% acrylic, 33% polyester, 21% rayon, 6% spandex. The acrylic accounts for some of that warmth, but it really worked! I felt comfortable, as the shirt had a great silky feel, was very light and kept me toasty. I'm going back and getting some more! I think the shirt was $12.95 so not unreasonable and they come in various sizes (XS!!!!) and have v or crew neck and assorted colors. Looking forward to my next trip back! read more

I bought ultra light down vest that fits in a nice little pouch. I carry around in my purse all the time now. I couldn't find my size and the staff was very helpful finding the right size and right color for me. Check out line was long initially but they quickly added additional staffs to move lines quicker. I was in and out of the store so fast, thanks to the friendly and efficient service. I've been to several other Uniqlo stores, Tokyo, Seoul, New York... to name a few... I came in to return an item and Kosuke was very sweet upon helping me. He needed management approval for my return and the little short girl typed in her numbers and threw her pen across his screen. I dropped in here while I was at Hillsdale. I've heard a lot about them but never bothered to go to Union Square to check it out. Store is very neat. There weren't a lot of people in it (judging from the Yelp reviews, now I know why!). This is really cheap throw away clothes. We're talking about unlined blazers and skirts but if you are on a budget, it's ok. I bought a fleece jacket for $14.99. Luckily, I made sure it wasn't damaged or something I will need to return later because judging from the reviews here, you can't return anything -ever! Some of the clothes look plain cheap and overpriced. I'm looking at you, down coat/vest which doesn't have any down at all. You can squeeze the whole thing into a ball in your fist. Would I shop here again? Only if I'm really really sure I want to keep what I'm buying. I wouldn't buy any gifts from here that's for sure! read more

Went here for the first time and they had some awesome designed shirts. Walking around the store they had a bunch of Jean's, tee, underwear, socks, etc. Quality is surprisingly good. Another complaint re Uniqlo's return policy. As a faithful Uniqlo customer for many years, I had a very disappointing experience today when inquiring about a credit/exchange for 2 tshirts I'd received as xmas gifts. I had cut the tags, but shirts had not been worn. The cashier told me I could exchange for the same shirt - which was not helpful/the style was not right for me. Any other store would have offered a credit, especially after the holidays. I felt as if I was being treated like a thief or cheat. As much as I love many of Uniqlo's offerings, it has left such a sour taste in my mouth I will shop elsewhere in the future. read more

I've been to the other Uniqlo locations around the Bay, and this store is a bit smaller but it is very organized. It was easy to locate things, even the sale bins and sections are in order. I was going through some shirts on the wall and they were already neatly folded, and some guy saw one shirt slightly not in line with the others, he took the whole stack and re-folded the whole stack. I was just impressed with the layout of the whole store. But when I went to the register to purchase my items, I brought my reusable bag, but the cashier didn't offer or put my bought items in the bag, usually I would get better customer service, especially at Uniqlo. read more

lots of great deals here on black friday! soft, warm fleece jackets for $14.95, hoodies for under $30, and a number of other winter wear and accessories at very reasonable prices. as expected, it was quite packed so i was crawling over other customers, trying to get a better look at the specials and sale items for the day. i've bought jackets and gloves from uniqlo before and have found them to be quite functional and lasting, despite the lower than average prices. the materials are pretty good and i can put them in the washing machine and not worry about them falling apart. read more

Well, that was quick. So much for afterglow. Finally had to deal with customer service and I've decided that this is where it all falls apart. What this particular store gets from corporate is great: products and price. What it doesn't get is sucky -- the people. I bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff over their grand opening weekend. Once I got home I noticed that I was missing a pair of socks. They cost $4. So I wanted until the grand opening madness ended to see what the store would do. I figured that they probably just missed it when they bagged everything up. I explain my story to a customer service manager. He condescendingly told me that my story wasn't "believable." Their associates wouldn't have missed bagging an items. Most likely the socks fell out somewhere between the store and my house. They have no responsibility to do anything about this and "have a good day!" Um ok. Whatever. Clearly I am just here to scam you guys out of $4 when I have $300+ on the receipt. They need to train their staff on customer service for sure, or stop hiring people that don't have common sense. We were surprised that this Uniqlo was not crowded at all which was nice until we got to the fitting room. I was holding my ice tea from Tevana and there were 2 associates in the fitting room. The tall Asian guy with glasses said that I NEED to throw away my drink or finish it all right now before I can use a fitting room. Excuse me? You have no right to tell me to throw away my $5 drink which was more than half full or possibly expect me to finish it all now. I was beyond annoyed at this point and the girl noticed and asked him why can't she just put it up here and grab it later when she's done? That guy who obviously doesn't understand social cues said no she can't and just continued to stare at me. So I handed my drink to my boyfriend and proceeded to a room. It only gets worse. The rooms are really small, he directs me to step in first then hangs up the clothes and kicks the stool that was keeping the door open and closes the door. GREAT. Now I'm trapped in this tiny corner because this dumb guy with 0 common sense thought it was ok. Ironically when it was my boyfriend's turn, that guy did the same thing to him. Common sense is not common at all. Fire your incompetent staff and promote the ones who think from the customers' perspective. read more

I prefer the customer service at the Valley Fair location. I don't know what is going on with this Hillsdale location, but the staff was the complete opposite of what I experienced at Valley Fair. When I walked in, there was one sale associate. He walked right past me and the other customers (we were all halfway across the the sales floor) like we weren't there. Then he disappeared, and I didn't see any sales associates on the sales floor for the rest of the time that I was here. The clothing was organized, but they didn't have as many colors available as the Valley Fair location. This location had more bras and panties in stock than the Valley Fair location. I went to the dressing room to try on two pairs of jeans, and as the attendant led me to the dressing room, he snapped,"Make sure you bring back the numbered sign!" I replied,"Thank you, I always do." I didn't care for the fit of the jeans, so I brought them back to the attendant. He snatched them from me, along with the numbered sign. As I left the dressing room, I saw other customers near the bras/panties section looking around for a sales associate. Two ladies gave up and walked out. This lack of sales associates was on a Sunday around 2PM. There were two cashiers, both who looked like they wanted to be anywhere but here. One thing is that the store is very plain and boring and has a small selection of graphic T-shirts and that's why I give it a one star and is one reason I give the store employee a bad review today. I was with one of my transgender friends and was looking at the women's clothing because we needed some clothes for my step sister and the store employee yells at use telling us the the men's area is here and we are at the wrong area that is only for women. I've Never heard someone yell at us for being at the women's area in any other store I have been too Victoria's Secret Pink and have never been catcalled like that. Uniqlo is great! There's always those little sale shelves located around the store. You can get decent quality turtle necks for $6 in the sale racks. The employees were also very nice when we returned a shirt that I changed my mind on. I never feel pressured like other stores -1 star because they ended up messing up and made my bf's pants way too short and ended up having to wait later then when they told us the pants would be ready....it's okay mistakes happen ..I'll still be shopping here but don't think I'll be getting my pants cut here read more

Wow, it's been a long time since I stood in line to get into a store. Cool clothes -- a bit like Gap meets Eddie Bauer meets quality fabrics. Currently stocked to the gills with all manner of cold-weather wear -- sweaters, coats, down jackets, and -- yes -- turtlenecks. They have some undergarments and also some knitted leggings. I used to like this store because of their clothes. I hate them now because of their customer service. I went there on a Friday and they said they would have my pants altered by 11am the next morning and I could come at anytime after that to pick them up. I show up at 4pm the next day ready to pick up my pants and was told that the alteration person called out sick and they "meant to call everyone to tell them." I let it go since the person that told me was at least apologetic about it. However, when I tried to call them to check the status before going to the store, their phone number listed on yelp does not work! I called their 8774864756 phone number, which is their corporate customer service number, and received no help. It was a very awkward conversation - I explained to them that I just wanted the Hillsdale location in San Mateo's phone number and she asked which coast the store was (keep in mind they only have 9 stores), and then she told me they don't have a phone number for my store. I thought that was strange, so I called back and another guy told me they don't have numbers for ANY stores! Why did the first lady even bother to ask where the store was if they don't have that information? We even asked why they don't have store phone numbers and his reply was "I don't have an answer to this question." In general, I like Uniqlo and the basics that they offer, but this store still needs to work out their grand opening kinks. While I thought I spent a while shopping, I actually ended up spending much more time in line waiting to pay. Not sure the reason for their inefficienies - there were 3-4 clerks running the cash registers. Perhaps they were chatting up the customers for too long? In terms of store selection, this location has a kids section, which the Powell store doesn't have. But the Powell store has a greater selection of Men's and Women's clothes, and a much more efficient staff. I'd rather just buy things online or drive up to the Powell location, than to go to the Hillsdale store. Maybe I'd go back to return things I bought online, and decided not to keep. read more

I bought a pair of denim jeans when the store first opened in October. Since then, I lost about 15 pounds and the waist was really big. I knew they do alterations at the store but wasn't clear if they altered the width of pants. So I called their 1-877-486-4756 customer service number and asked. The lady told me to bring the jeans to the store I bought it at and alterations will be for free. So I drove 25 miles to the San Mateo store only to be told they only do hemming and cannot alter the width of the pants. What I was told over the phone is different than what the store personnel told me. They need to get their act together so everyone knows the policy of the store. As a result of their incompetence, the customer is misinformed. Highly unimpressed with the personnel and very unprofessional!!!!! read more

I love the supima cotton t-shirts. Long sleeves in the winter, and tanks in the summer. I wear a lot of ultra conservative office attire that cannot be casually tossed in the laundry pile along with the other shapeless clothing. These t-shirts for me are like undershirts for men who wear button down shirts and suits. Was that too subtle? It's another layer between my delightful armpits and the ultraconservative sheath dresses that are my trademark. Also, in the winter, such as now, the long sleeves keep me warm under my jacket on the 5am Cal Train commutes into the city without adding a lot of bulk. The colors are wonderfully conservative and match my grey/black/dark grey/navy dresses so closely that one cannot tell it's not part of the dress! And I got a great pair of skinny jeans for $5. The employees have been diligently trained to hand the customer everything with TWO HANDS. Surely a sign of respect. read more

Uniqlo is open in Hillsdale yay! I've been to the Powell Street SF Uniqlo and it is always crazy every time I go. Same clothes, Uniqlo is very high quality Japanese clothes the material and craftsmanship is great. Right now they are having grand opening sales, there are some good deals no basics. They're famous for their thermawear which keeps you cool and warm depending on the weather. Go to this Uniqlo if you are in the area, without the chaos of downtown SF! read more

I like this store way more than the Abercrombie that used to be there. Hillsdale has never been a great mall, but I feel like this store is helping it a bit. It's a little hectic/crowded because it just opened, but the salespeople are very helpful. They also were having some special deals for the grand opening (not sure if those are still happening). My only complaint is that the check out process took a long time, and they could really speed up that process. Absolutely horrible customer service. I purchased an item online that ended up being really oversized, so I returned it to this store. The cashier had no idea how to do the return even though I had an email order confirmation & receipt with the order number and item number. He got help from someone else and finally "figured it out" (nope). I checked my bank statement later and saw that I had been CHARGED AGAIN for the item I returned. So, I've now paid twice for an item I returned. I tried to call customer service and had a super weird interaction with the person on the line - she asked me the same question 5 times (which store I went to) and kept talking while I was responding. She said they don't have direct store numbers (riiiiiight) and that I have to go back to the store (40 minutes away) to fix this. The vibe at this location, however, is quite a departure from the Uniqlo stores in Tokyo, where the service is snappy and the storeworkers look like they know what they're doing and they are dressed in a way that makes the brand look good. But here service is sluggish and the staff wear horrible combinations of the products, which is a shame. read more

I visited the UNIQLO store at the Hillsdale shopping center in San Mateo, CA. I searched for men's dress shirts, There was not a single one that was sized XXL. I looked at pants and slacks. There were not sized greater than a 38. No 40s That is extremely unkind to larger individuals Shame on this company. They do not deserve to be in business in the U.S. They should go back to wherever they came from. I will never go back there.
