So I spent over $80 on cosmetics today and they tried to sell me a bag for 25 cents. You can't include a little paper bag with a purchase? Plus, those bags have Macy's name on the outside which makes for good advertising. There was one clerk and two people ahead of me at the Lancome counter. When she got to me and was fetching my foundation, she let another woman interrupt our transaction--one question is okay, but she held her up with multiple queries. The sales lady should have asked her to wait. Only reason I was stupid enough to go to Macy's is I got in the habit because of their Lancome bonuses. There is a bonus coming up in a little over a week, she tells me, but did she offer me a rain check with my qualifying purchase? Nope. Forget it. Horrible. Just horrible. I don't know why but Macy's is ALWAYS understaffed in their Accessories Department. EVERY. SINGLE. MACY'S. It's ridiculous. I can never get anyone to help me out and I always leave frustrated. On my last visit, my mom and I came in to pick up two pairs of diamond earrings we had bought but weren't able to pick up the previous night. When we arrived, it took about 15 minutes for a sales associate to free up. Now, I'm all about the elderly working. However, this sales associate in particular was soooooooo slow. It took her about 30 minutes to get our earrings from their safe. She basically painstakingly and SLOWLY withdrew EVERY. SINGLE. PACKAGE. from the safe and had to put EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. BACK. She STILL couldn't find our earrings. She then went to their NEXT safe (even though she assured us that it wouldn't be in there). And low and behold, THEY WERE THERE! We frequently suggested to her that maybe she should check with another associate to help her but she completely ignored us. It took us over an hour to pick up our earrings on what should have been a five minute maximum visit. MAX. Horrible. read more

What is with the customer service at Women's Shoes? I was there almost an hour (it was over 50 minutes), and it's not like I was trying on the whole store. I literally needed only three pairs of shoes to try on during the entire time, but I couldn't get help if someone's life depended on it. The one gentleman was really nice, but apparently new and seemed overwhelmed. The several ladies behind the counter didn't seem to care if I was being helped or not. I guess I was just supposed to stand there and wait 20 minutes at a time while the gentleman was dealing with a couple difficult transactions at the register, just because he had helped me first. Look, I get that that's protocol, but if you're in sales in some capacity, you should really at least try to pretend that you care about professionalism and customer service. Every visit to this Macy's is always such a great experience I had to write about it! First, it's so conveniently located in Hillsdale Mall near other stores I like to shop and frequent--plenty of parking above the garage where I can walk right into the ladies department area. I always have an item in mind I'm shopping for and end up leaving with like 10 items! Staff here have always been super friendly and helpful to me. ONE....ONE person working in women's shoe department on a Sunday. Waited in line 45 minutes behind about 10 people. Whatever, I ordered shoes online, it looked like this Macy's might have the next size down bc these were too big...I'm patient, so o waited, I get to the front. Cool! They have my size...I'm out of there...nope!!!!!!! Guy tells me sorry these shoes have already been returned....uhhh no they haven't. I opened them yesterday...he's like yup! Sorry! Tells me to stand in some other line across the store. I ask him to call a manager, There is no way. He doesn't want to...there's like 15 people behind me now! Manager comes over.....dude returned my shoes...that's why they said returned. Over Macy's this was only realized AFTER the manager accused me of buying two of the same pairs of shoes and trying to return multiples as if I was running some sort of scam. Get off your high horse if I get excited about saving 600 on a suit and taking it home for only 350.00 vs. 900 be excited for me too, or at least smile. I was nice polite, and humble asking his opinion, trust me I have more suits than most men have socks! I don't need your opinion or advice but I was being friendly, courteous, and nice about my purchase. He was cold and pompous, then left all the security tags on the suit. So when I exited I was accosted by security guards patting me down. It's not like your job requires many steps or the place was super busy! Wow what a bad experience unlike union square where shopping albeit with tourist is actually pleasant. Hillsdale is a small mall and the Macy's is a small Macy's. Its nice to have a Macy's so close by. This Macy's is not the nicest. It has a tendency to be out of items and their kitchen section is especially chaotic. The shoe section is small but they usually have some great items. The staff is a hit or miss. I've had some really great help once I asked for it. Staff won't go out of their way to help, but its there if you can find them. read more

This location is really great, especially for kids. You get to go on a really fun scavenger hunt to find two of the same shoes? How could a girl be so lucky! On top of trying to find a sales associate for a different size? Your lucky self gets to just go behind the counter yourself to the back to find them! I'm not sure if anyone from Macy's corporate headquarters is reading this but I hope they do. I bought 3 pairs of jeans and a jacket for my husband for his birthday. Nothing fit him so I decided to return it. (A few days later.) I went to the Men's Department and I asked the woman if she was open. She said "yes" reluctantly but did not look up and proceeded to fold some garments. I told her it's a return. Silence. She asks me what I was returning. She could just open the bag! Seriously? After she gave me the receipt for the return, I thanked her and she just gave me a dirty look and handed over the receipt. Too many stores like Macy's give attitude when the customer returns items well within the exchange period. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. Also, I agree with other reviewers that the sales associate know nothing about the sales promotions and coupons. Every time I even attempt to use my Star Reward coupons, they automatically say it doesn't work. After insisting that they at least try to scan it, turns out it does actually work! read more

I think it's because the store is in the suburbs and they employ locals who might feel that they don't need to extend themselves and they're the shit. The customer service here is reprehensible...in fact, there's no customer service to speak of at all. And those cheesy perfume ladies wafting their paper scent samples. Macy's is good and bad. Good: I recently bought a dress with a gift card in the teen section. I absolutely LOVED it. I brought it home and took a nap and when I woke up I went back to the dress to find that my puppy had ripped the dress to shreds. I was devastated. The only thing I could think of is see if Macy's would take it back; I was sure they wouldn't. I went up to the counter and I showed the cashier and she called her manager and told him the story straight up and allowed me to return it for a full refund! I was so thankful and bought it again. The cashier was so forgiving and kind to me and made sure that I was okay. I kept that dress far away from my puppy! Bad was in the shoe department looking for some hot heels to go with my dress. There was an employee next to me dusting dirt off his shirt and not even asking if I was in need of help. Finally I asked him if I could get a size and he responded in total attitude like I was not allowed to talk to him. I was so hesitant on asking him for another size because of his attitude. 5 stars goes to... Macy's cosmetics staff for Urban Decay! To get my make-up done, I have to buy 4 Urban Decay products. One caveat is that none of these items can be on sale. But I do think it's well worth my money to buy products I would eventually use myself or use as gifts as a way to get my make-up done for events. The more expensive products, such as the Naked palettes (normally $54, not including tax), are counted as 2 products. With four products at each visit, I've spent about $75-$100 (per visit!!! not a total amount). I've had three experiences with the talented make-up artists of Urban Decay, all of which were amazing. I always feel like I'm being treated so well by them and that they really make the effort to make me look and especially feel beautiful. To Megan, Mariella, Jerrell, and Miriam - I can't thank you guys enough for treating me with such sincere kindness and for the constant enthusiasm that comes with doing my make-up. The fact that you all love what you do is admirable and I know I will never be disappointed if I come to any of you - or any of the other make-up artists - at Macy's. read more

The one star is because this store is never super crowded. However, there is good reason for that. Their selection sucks. All other Macy's stores in the bay area have much more variety and what seems to me like more fashionable merchandise. Their selection, as bad as it is, is far from being the worst part of coming here. Dealing with the employees here makes me compare them to the DMV scene from zootopia. Everyone here moves in slow motion. I made the mistake of coming here to buy a formal belt. It took me around 15 minutes to choose one. Since then, it has been 45 minutes and I am still waiting to get rung up at a register by a cashier. First I stood in a line with one person in front of me. Stood there for around 20 minutes when the customer turned around and apologized for it taking so long. He then mentioned that a resolution is not in sight and recommended that we use another register. Why didn't the employee do that instead? After that I went to a different register, which was empty with employees behind it. For some reason, they could not ring me up either and pointed me to another cash register with a line. Behind the counter, there were 3 employees but for some reason, only one computer was being used. Line is moving super slowly. The beauty of this 45 minute wait is that the store feels very empty. Maybe 50 peoples across 3 floors. I wonder how this place operates when more people show up to shop. read more

RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Place was really busy and my femail friend and I were waiting for about 5 min for help at the Jewelry section. Found this Macy's employee named Linda organizing the ear ring racks and asked nicely if she can help us. She responded with a RUDE and COLD "NO" and gave us a leave-me-the-f***-alone look. I'm a fan of Macy's, but this particular location sucks! -Junior's section is tiny, dark, and extremely disorganized. -Impulse is also tiny and limited in selection -The women's shoe section is weak!! Such small selection -The cosmetics counter is okay, there's Mac, Clinique, Estee Lauder, and more -The lady at the lingerie section was helpful. This Macy's is a bit of a hit or a miss. I went here today for some men's dress shoes "on the cheap." The section was a ghost town, only two men who were there and they were the employees. I found a steal on the racks, a black dress shoe that looked worth a lot more than $39. Having not been asked for help, or greeted, I took the shoe to the counter and asked for the mate. About what felt like 10 minutes later, but was probably more like 6 minutes, the associate came out and told me that the shoe was not to be found, it's mate was missing, no explanation offered. I inquired about ordering the shoe, and he said he would be right back. So into the back he went, not to return fast enough for me to bother to keep trying. The store looked decent today, and I know that this situation wasn't entirely their fault, but it could have been dealt with more customer service and friendly-ness. Better luck next time? read more

This is purely for the home department, especially the register wtih a particular employee names Maggie. Flaws of maggie -unattentive and made many mistakes -I purchased a pair of pants without a tag on it. I brought the same pai of pants in a different size so she could ring it up. After I paid and everything, she would not put a tag on it because she said she can't. And there are no returns...wtf???? I'm buying it as a gift. I can't give a pair of pants without a tag on it! What if they don't fit? Is it that hard to make another tag. I've never had this happen to me before! And wouldn't it have been nice if you could tell me that BEFORE you made me pay. -Also, while she was ringing me up she was talking to her co-worker, and her co-workers mom that came to visit, I said exccuse me FIVE times, and she ignored me, until she said $XX.XX as the total amount. terrible terrible terrible...especially with the long lines and millions of people pushing and shoving to get to their $34.99 12 piece cookware set swinging it around. read more

One star you ask? Well, if it was possible to give zero stars I would! First of all, try to find someone to help you. Second of all their sales are so bogus. Ever try to use those 15% or 20% coupons, then find out that whatever you're buying doesn't count??? Look at the damn fine print and you'll see that just about anything worth buying is eliminated! It pisses me off that all these retail places are complaining about business being down and they don't put on legitimate sales. Many places will advertise 20% off friends and family but most of the time it only applies to regularly priced items. Give me a break, most of that stuff is marked up like 100% anyway. Even if they did allow you to apply the discount to already marked down merchandise, they would still make money! I think consumers need to organize and not patronize stores that don't have legitimate sales! This Macy's is one of the department stores at the Hillsdale Shopping center and offers what you would expect from the brand. Two stories (women's on first, men's on second)...good variety and prices. I came across a few employees with a bit of an attitude, but I'm thinking this had to do with the holiday being among us and those employees were just frustrated with the crowds. Overall...not the best Macy's I've ever been to, but not the worst either. If you're in the neighborhood...I suggest to check them out. I'm curious to see what your thoughts are of them. read more

On hold right now... Forget it. Still on hold... The first time I was put on hold, the woman was saying into the phone, "Where is our list of phone numbers? I can't find it, I can't find it." She was trying to transfer me to another department. She finally gave up and transfered me to the operator who never answered. So I called back again, this time pressing the extension for a random department (men's coats), hoping I'd have better luck with a more capable customer service rep. Someone picked up. Carla. I ask to be transfered to jewelry and accessories. She tells me she's going to transfer me to the operator so I begin to protest. "No! I just called and was transfered to the operator and no one pic--" I don't know when she hung up on me but she probably had already transfered me back at "No!". So I let it ring a few times then gave up. Officially. Inside, this location is alright. A lot of times the inventory is pretty messy and hard to wade through. But their selection is decent. Every single one of my stars go to Mary in the home and bedding department! We were treated with the type of service you could only dream about... The time, attention, and information she provided was invaluable because let's face it, it goes beyond just touching the material. It's all a little overwhelming with all the selections and brands they carry and most expensive doesn't necessary mean best quality. Mary knows her stuff! We just moved to a new place and we wanted to splurge a little with bedding and towels without killing the bank. She pointed us to everything we were looking for and we were so grateful for it. Macy's has a lot of negative reviews for this location, but I like this location. Yeah it's definitely a dated store, but then again most of Hillsdale Shopping Mall is dated. I mostly come here to get clothes in the plus size section. They have a huge (no pun intended) variety in this section. Us large ladies usually have a shitty, teeny selection of hideous clothes in other chain stores that are around here. Macy's plus size section has great sales and prices on certain items. I always come here first when it's clothes shopping time. I also like their accessories area too. They have many clearance and sale items. However this section is around the perfume area. I ALWAYS ALWAYS get a fierce migraine when in that area, so I do try to avoid it since I'm sensitive to perfume smells. Overall since they have a great plus size section, I will return! read more

I used to got to Macy's in SF, which was waaaaayyy bigger and with a lot more selection. I am disappointed because every time I go to check the clearance or the sales, I never find anything. Me and my husband used to go in the SF store and find anytime clearance and sales, last time he bought 3 pars of shoes for 100 $, brands shoes, and me jeans and other things too, brands ones. This review is long overdue! About two years ago, I bought a pair of adorable Sporto snow boots in the women's shoes department at this Macy's. The gentleman who helped me (I think his name is Tu, but my memory could be off) was very nice. He also gave me a discount on the boots because they were the floor model pair. Overall it's OK. Can get a little messy during the sales but usually it's tidy and clean. But what's with the man section though? It feels like it's a dim dark basement of cheap clothing store. No one to help you you just roam there for few minutes then just head back to the light on the 1st level. Some cloths are ripped a little and have stains so make sure you look twice before buying.
