We were seated on the patio because all the tables were occupied. They have heaters so the temperature pretty tolerable. The place was pretty crowded that day so we waited for our waitress for 15 mins. It was still happy hour when we arrived until 7pm so we were anxious to get our drinks in! Finally, she greeted us to take our orders and since 15 mins left of happy hour we ordered 2 drinks at a time lol. We ordering the jerk bbq wings for an appetizer and Rasta pasta for our meals. We waited an hour for the wings to find out they were out of them. So disappointing! I also ordered a salad and that took forever. The pleasant smell coming from this Caribbean restaurant was intoxicating! The atmosphere was welcoming and wasn't much of a wait. The food comes in large portions and didn't take too long to come out. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Wrap which wasn't disappointing at all. The wrap was full of shrimp with a sweet sauce, cabbage and peppers. It was lacking in Caribbean spices but still very enjoyable. Never judge a book by its cover but I did expect more beef option with a Caribbean fusion based off the name. Overall an amazing experience and very filling. Great happy hour prices on both food and drinks. We have tried some of their other food on the regular menu, but it seems that the best food is also on the happy hour menu since a lot of them are very flavorful with the jerk seasoning. Our service has always been good, and it has never been too busy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking. Worth checking out if in the area. I've been here before on a random mid-week trip, but this time my homegirl and I decided to go on a Friday evening for happy hour. The positives are that the happy hour is from 4-7 and includes the whole restaurant, not just the bar area. The drinks are reasonably good around $6-7 for most and a variety. Food is also available, but as a pescaterian my options are quite limited, I believe only the brussels I'm able to eat from the happy hour menu. We were seated at a booth, it was about 4:45/5pm and there was a decent crowd at the bar, but as time went on the restaurant began to fill up as well. I had 3 of the pineapple gingers, they are delicious, I love them With such limited food options on happy hour, we decided to order off the regular menu. One of my pet peeves is for restaurants not to have things they advertise and the server doesn't tell you ahead of ordering. They were out of a lot of things. We settled on the red snapper escovitch, which was ok and my homegirl got a gluten free version of the rasta pasta with cauliflower rice and jerk salmon since the zucchini noodles weren't available, she loved it. What we didn't like is that the salmon was not served whole atop, but rather chopped in pieces and premixed in. I've had the rasta pasta before with the jerk salmon and it was phenomenal. On our way back to DC from Lairel, we decided to try someplace "off the beaten path (for us)" for dinner. We stopped at the Mad Cow Grill and found a lovely spot with a great vibe. Our waiter was an absolute hoot, and, after asking our likes & dislikes, highly recommended the Blue Crab And Artichoke Dip and Crispy Brussel Sprouts to start. Great selection! My wife was in the mood for a cheeseburger, and it was yummy. Our VERY attentive waiter suggested the Jerk BBQ Pork Ribs for me, and WOW was he right. I can't believe I've lived so close to this gem and I'm now just coming here. I came for their Sunday brunch, and my table ordered a mix of their breakfast and lunch menu items. We started with their apple cider pancakes- AMAZING! We also ordered the truffle Mac n cheese - also AMAZING. Lastly, I ordered the impossible burger, which was huge, and it tasted great as well. For my cocktail, I got the pineapple ginger drink with rum, and that was really good too. I really wanted to try some of their Caribbean food, but that's on my list for the next time I come. There was definitely good music playing in the restaurant, but the music was a bit too loud for my liking, but hey, if that's your vibe, you'll love it. I live in Southern Maryland but had some business to take care of in Laurel so I decided to stop at Mad Cow before heading back home. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted. Finally I asked If I could place a to-go order. There were 2 girls at the counter. The youngest of the two was kind and helpful. The other girl sat on a stool and scrolled on her phone. Almost everything I wanted to order they either out of it or only have it on certain days. They don't have oxtails, out of wings and only serve beef patties on Fridays. I even asked about their cake and the host told me it cost $10 for one slice of cake, RIDICULOUS!! I end of ordering Rasta Pasta and paid an up charge for Jerk Chicken. It took about 15 min. which was reasonable. But something told me let me check my food before I leave. Good thing I did because there was NO jerk chicken in my to-go box, even though they charged me extra for it. The youngest girl was kind and returned my food to the kitchen which took an additional 15min. The 2nd girl remained at the counter on her phone, even proceeded to make a phone call using profanity and inappropriate conversation. The younger girl returned with my food and was apologetic. I finally made it home and began to eat my food. If I say it was disgusting, it would be an UNDERSTATEMENT!! The pasta was bland, it taste like the cook just threw some cayenne pepper on it. The chicken was broiled NOT jerked at all, not even sautéed. The Rasta Pasta even had shredded cold carrots in it which was weird and out of place. It definitely DIDN'T taste like authentic Jamaican food!! If I knew my experience was going to be this bad, I would have saved my money and went across the street to Negril. A complete WASTE of $21. First time and it appears to be the hot spot in the area. Came specifically to meet a friend for dinner. Service was ok. Waitress started off good but appeared to get agitated ask the evening progressed. My friend asked for a soda she never received. Music was very loud to the point where it seemed I was screaming across the table. We were on the farthest wall away from the bar area. Rasta Pasta had a very good taste to be all veggies and I added shrimp. The crab dip was just alright, could've been hotter and was very thick. As a woman, often dining alone, sometimes there are impolite or invasive conversations. I have seen with others and a couple times with myself that staff/managers are paying attention and will listen to people experiencing someone acting off or acting out. They often handle it without it getting to a confrontation. Someone was literally following me around one foot away over 30 minutes at another establishment and the staff shrugged at my complaint! Back to my TED Talk...Besides the jerk flatbread with cauliflower crust, sorrel martini, bammy and jerk wings, that customer care is what I love most! I went to mad cow grill with a couple of coworkers. We spent two hours there. If you're looking to go, it is in your best interest to show up before six, if you don't have a reservation. It was packed by the time we were leaving. We tried a couple items from the happy hour menu. They were all decent. The brussels sprouts, jerk chicken quesadilla, and the happy hour burger were all good. I didn't order anything off the main menu but I feel like if I did, I would've enjoyed it. I don't know if I even need to do a review because this place is clearly already popular and well supported. We arrived on the Saturday of Easter weekend about 7 PM. When we got to the hostess she took our name and phone number but said she was unable to give us an estimate on how long the wait would be. I asked her if Could be 30 minutes, could it be an hour and she really couldn't tell us. I was a bit disappointed in that. So we gave her the cell phone number and went to home goods to shop. Luckily the wait was only about 15 minutes. The place was full and lively and we were seated on the inside. I definitely like to check out the tent area the next time. As noted by other reviewer's the music is definitely loud. It really could be turned down one or two notches to allow for people not to have to scream in conversations or ask people to repeat themselves. But I did enjoy the song selections. The hostess provided us with a menus and utensils when she seated us so it allowed us to immediately begin to review our options. It's a pretty extensive and interesting and eclectic mix of items on the menu. But given the popularity I had to expect the food will be tasty. I'm a big foodie so I can be easily disappointed. For my cocktail I got the pineapple ginger cocktail but swapped out the spiced rum for some Malibu. It was very very tasty and sufficiently strong and I probably should've left the spiced rum. I will leave it on my next trip because I will be back. Our drinks came pretty quickly and then our server got our food order. I'm the kind of person who can fill up easily on appetizers so I decided to go for the jerk chicken flatbread with a side of plantains. Our food came out in enough time to allow for conversation. The jerk chicken flatbread was amazing. I probably shouldn't have eaten the entire thing but I couldn't stop myself. It was a perfect balance with the spice of the jerk chicken the sweetness of the onions I don't know what kind of creamer base it was but that was a beautiful balance to the spice of the chicken a crispyness of the flatbread it was just all perfect. Pack your patience (& your handheld fan). I met a friend here for a late lunch on a Friday. We have met here previously because it's the halfway mark between our homes. We were seated right away along the back wall near an alternative door labeled staff only. The restaurant was at about 30% capacity when we arrived. We were greeted by our server right away and then everything went left. The service was so slow it took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks which were watered down. Our appetizer came out with one thing missing we were then informed they were "out" of yucca at 2:30pm .... How? The barbecue jerk wings were good but they were like warm by the time we got to enjoy them because we didn't have side plates (the first set was dirty). The Brussel sprouts came out shortly after and while they appeared burnt they were actually delicious. That's about the time when I noticed an abnormal amount of flies all around our table. We began swatting every few minutes. Next our entrees came out and everything looked very good. The oxtail I ordered was super fatty and also lukewarm. My friend shared that her salmon didn't taste like Jerk. As we continued to seat flies we contemplated if we wanted to order a second round of drinks. Our server was nowhere to be found we had to flag down someone else to get help. Additionally it was getting very warm in the restaurant the ceiling fans didn't seem to be working. The second round of drinks came and they were in plastic cups this time and tasted much better. When we raised the noticeable difference to the server he said "oh maybe the bartender feels some way about me". We were confused by the comment and honestly over the inattentive service, the flies and the heat. Just when I had reached the point of being done I noticed the thermostat on the wall and it read 83 degrees. When we saw that the manger just so happened to be walking by, we stopped him. We shared our experience with him and he said he knew the flies were a problem ... excuse me? And he apologized for the heat. He then shared that it was our servers second day , I shared while he was nice he wasn't ready to serve on his own. He thanked us for the feedback but honestly it didn't seem like he cared. Horrible incident where we're celebrating a birthday brunch for my 25 year old daughter and the manager came to my end of the table and asked if we were giving my twelve year old niece alcoholic beverages because she had her head down at the table (after eating a huge meal). My sister and I were very upset and shocked and appalled that apparently he assumed we were the type of people to do something like that. The manager's name was Jeff and he was very dismissive about how disrespectful and upsetting his question was. We are a family of educated people and were not doing anything to give the perception that we are the type of people to break the law. I will never eat in this location again unless something is done to make up this blatant disregard for customer service and unexpected discrimination for whatever Jeff's reasoning was. My daughter also order chicken spring rolls but was given shrimp which could have been a disaster due to a food allergy at our table. They did replace the rolls with the correct item later. Disappointing Lunch Experience: Poor Service, Limited Menu, and Subpar Food I visited Mad Cow with a friend this week, eager for a repeat of the enjoyable experience we had last year. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown from start to finish. Food: We came specifically for the oxtail lunch entree, along with an appetizer of Brussels sprouts. We even mentioned to our server how excited we were about the meal. However, after waiting over ten minutes, the server returned to inform us that the oxtails "wouldn't be ready" in time for lunch. This was a huge disappointment and set the tone for the rest of the meal. My friend opted for the Jerk Chicken while I settled for a burger, medium with gouda. We also ordered the Oxtail Spring Rolls to compensate for the missing entree. The Brussels sprouts were decent--crispy and light--but things quickly went downhill. The spring rolls were overcooked and oily, masking the flavor of the tender filling. We waited another 15 minutes or more for our entrees, and when they finally arrived, they looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for far too long. My friend's chicken was dry, though she did enjoy the rice. My burger, which I ordered medium, came out bone dry, with no pink in sight. The slice of gouda was so thick it was overwhelming. The fries were well-cooked but cold, adding to our frustration. After another long wait, we decided to order dessert, only to find out that only two of the usual seventeen options were available. We chose the lemon cake, which was lemony but did little to improve our overall disappointment. Service: While our server was polite, the service was unacceptably slow, especially considering the restaurant was nearly empty. We later learned that only one server was covering the entire restaurant, including the patio, which explained the lack of attention. Even so, it was frustrating to experience such delays in getting our drinks, placing our order, and having our table checked on. At one point, the situation was so bad that a guest at a nearby table had to wander around the restaurant trying to find our server. Hospitality: Overall, we paid far too much for a meal that was riddled with issues. While I understand that staffing can be challenging, I expected a manager to check in on us, especially given how many things went wrong. Not only did no manager come by, but nothing was done to make up for our disappointing experience--not even a comped appetizer or dessert. Will we return to Mad Cow? Perhaps, but definitely not on a Tuesday for lunch. It's clear that the restaurant needs to address these issues if they want to keep customers coming back. The food is ok...just ok. I've been here twice because my friend likes it. The oxtails are very large but tough. They need to be cooked slower and longer. The plantains are perfectly ripe and sweet. I enjoy the cabbage. I will say that the brussel sprouts are really good! My friend always gets the salmon. He said it was ok, just ok. The problem is that it's all just ok...not great. For the price it should be great. Negril is right across the parking lot and their food is much better. If you're going to Mad Cow please know it's a loud, lively place. Everyone is friendly...the staff and the other diners. It becomes a hip, hot, noisy spot in the evenings so be prepared for a very different atmosphere. Line starts at 10:30 (open at 11). Luckily, the girls were hip to it. The blue crab eggs Benedict was tasty and well put together, though the egg was overcooked (no runny goodness). Those potatoes were bomb! Chef Ed's "Scrimp & Grits" was creamy and flavorful. The banana bread French toast was a nice twist. Didn't give me full French toast vibes, but still legit. My friend got catering here for his birthday and it was amazing. So I finally came and got to try it in person. Amazing is to say the least. Curried cabbage is delish, I can eat an entire bowl on my own. Jerk chicken quesadilla is amazing, some heat so make sure you can handle. Wings - have to try lemon pepper. Loved all of them! I'd go during happy hour which includes saturday, 4-7pm. Only downside is waiters get a slightly annoyed that you're there for happy hour food only.. oh wells. While we were walking out, we asked the name of the manager and was told Christopher, so we requested to speak to him. After a few minutes, Angela came out of the back to tell me they were working on the bill (???) I informed her we already paid the incorrect one and was waiting to speak to Christopher. A few minutes later she came back to offer his card because he was busy handing an employee issue. Such inappropriate and unprofessional behavior from the management team. I will be writing reviews so that others are not taken advantage of. If you have a system of charging for reservations, your system should be able to correctly discount the giftcard you give us as a refund. Splitting checks is common in the industry. I can't understand how the confusion kept happening. Even when we clearly showed what the total should be, we still overpaid once it was clear that the issue was not going to be fixed after an hour. Very disappointing! Will not be returning to this location. $109-$30=79 %2= 39.50. Simple math. We still ended up paying$109,so our refund for the reservation was not granted. I've tried this spot twice, despite the fact that the owners continuous rant on social media. I decided to support since I live in Laurel and wanted to support local businesses! Being that the owner is so passionate about his business, community and customers feedback. The vibe is great, bottomless mimosas are good, food is not bad but I am open to trying other cuisines. I think it's definitely a good happy hour spot after a long day of work. The staff are very nice and accommodating. I went to Mad Cow Grill for the first time this week, and really can't believe I hadn't been here before. It was a nice day and there were quite a few people so service was slow, understandably. I ordered the Moogarita and wheew! It was strong. I took my time with that haha. They have some great happy hour specials on both drinks and food. The margarita was $8 on HH menu. For the entree I ordered the ribs after seeing someone nearby eating them. They were delicious!!!! I wish I'd gotten a full rack instead of half. The sides were spinach and rice and beans. Both a little spicy to me (and I like spice) but very good. Only negative was the conditions of the bathrooms. I'm hoping they eventually took care of that. Delicious! Food was literally everything!! I ordered Curried Boneless Thighs. These were beyond delicious! Drove 40 minutes to try this place out! So so good! Tender and flavorful chicken. The sauce was perfect. Spinach was cooked to perfection and didn't need anything to enhance the flavor. Just perfect. My brother got the ox tail and talked about it the entire dinner and left his plate totally empty. YuM. Lemon pepper wings that my daughter ordered were very flavorful and was a very large portion. My husband ordered the Rasta Pasta and although it looked bland it was a very welcomed surprise. He added salmon. The food was just fantastic! It was easy parking. The restaurant is small so there are limitations. Small bar area. There's outdoor seating which is kind of enclosed but we were not offered the option. There were 6 of us. The restaurant looked pretty empty but it was an hour wait. We went to a store in the shopping center to kill time but never received a text. After an hour we returned and there was seating but it seemed off that a text was literally never sent. Service was decent. I will return because the food was so amazing but will likely just do carry out. read more

Hands down the best gem in the city. Why did it take me so long to discover this treasure?!?! Nestled in a shopping center between an auto tire shop and home goods you'll find Mad Cow. It was absolutely crowded with a long waitlist. Once we were seated, I couldn't help but notice the unbelievably loud music over head. That aside, the place has a casual feel. I ordered the "must get" ox tail with basmati rice and plantains. The oxtail tasted like it was simmering for days and was ready just in time for my order. Incredible depth of flavor and a comforting feel to it all. Trust me... I'll be back for more. read more
