The sauce was perfect. Spinach was cooked to perfection and didn't need anything to enhance the flavor. Just perfect. My brother got the ox tail and talked about it the entire dinner and left his plate totally empty. YuM. Lemon pepper wings that my daughter ordered were very flavorful and was a very large portion. My husband ordered the Rasta Pasta and although it looked bland it was a very welcomed surprise. He added salmon. The food was just fantastic! It was easy parking. The restaurant is small so there are limitations. Small bar area. There's outdoor seating which is kind of enclosed but we were not offered the option. There were 6 of us. The restaurant looked pretty empty but it was an hour wait. We went to a store in the shopping center to kill time but never received a text. Hands down the best gem in the city. Why did it take me so long to discover this treasure?!?! Nestled in a shopping center between an auto tire shop and home goods you'll find Mad Cow. It was absolutely crowded with a long waitlist. Once we were seated, I couldn't help but notice the unbelievably loud music over head. That aside, the place has a casual feel. I ordered the "must get" ox tail with basmati rice and plantains. The oxtail tasted like it was simmering for days and was ready just in time for my order. Looking for a good happy hour spot in the area with good parking options, this is the place to go. I have been here a few times and every time I had a great experience and the food was well prepared. The drinks are also amazing! My faves so far are the Thirsty Cow rum punch, pineapple ginger, and the Black Kitty (I think that's what's it's called but it's made with Hennessy and baby...me and brown liquor don't typically mix but we did that night lol). Same with the food. I love the contemporary/Jamaican twist of the food. They also have a build your own burger starting at $3 during happy hour and that's one of the go to, after the meatball sliders and flatbread. Been here a few times now. First time was for a YE event several years back. I wrote about that event contemporaneously but just realized it would never appear on this business's page. Terrific food. Nice vibes. 4.25 stars. Outdoor seating is open and spaced for max Covid safety. One of the cooks was grilling outside adjacent to the open patio since it was such a nice sunny day. Two orders of wings: Sriracha and Jamaican jerk - 12 each for me and my business partner. She ordered a jerk chicken salad which I managed to sneak a sample of with her permission. Drinks were smallish and I had to ask for dipping sauce (which also didn't come with with the usual carrots or celery sticks) for the wings but other than that everything was as normal. The owner is Jamaican so this place is heavily influenced with island indulgence, flavors & seasonings. He used to own a place in College Park called "Unforgettable Flavors", if you're familiar with that. Closed now unfortunately. I really like this place a lot. Laurel is a great location and it sits on the corner and a big strip mall area with a Giant Foods store as an anchor. Lots of parking and lots of good food here. read more

This place be jumping on a Sunday! Unfortunately, I was not able to enjoy the live DJ outdoors because of space restrictions but there were a lot of people outside enjoying the music. This restaurant does not take reservations (and the waitlist option from yelp wasn't working when I went) so be prepared to wait to get a table. Personally, my wait was one hour so I frequented the Marshalls nearby. On to the food - I ordered the oxtail which comes with rice and peas + plantains. The food came out quickly which was a shock, but thankfully it was still hot and fresh. I loved all the flavors and the oxtail was very tender and yummy. The rice and peas paired nicely with the oxtail as well as the plantains. Drinks - The rum punch is on the stronger side and if you don't like bananas, this is not the drink for you. I'm not sure if there are actually bananas in it, but there was some type of banana flavor that I tasted. The sangria was a good replacement. I can't believe that I've lived in this area for 7 months and didn't realize this gem of a place was just a short drive from me. I came in on Saturday just looking to have a quick lunch. I arrived around 1pm. The place wasn't busy at all and I opted for a seat at the bar, which had plenty of room. The bartender, Paula, immediately greeted me. She was super nice. I started off with one of my usuals, Don Julio and soda. After I ordered that I saw the drink menu and figured I should have ordered a drink from there because the drinks sounded yummy, but there's always next time. For my meal, I went with the grilled jerk chicken and a side of truffle Mac and cheese. Omg. The food was so good. I was getting full, but I kept eating because it was just so good lol. My family is from Barbados and I have visited Jamaica four times now. So I know good Jamaican food. Everything was on point. I even initially asked for gravy for my rice and didn't even realize that it wasn't given to me. Paula came over a few minutes after I had already started eating to let me know that the kitchen forgot it and if I still wanted it. I let her know that it was not needed. The food was perfect just how it was. I even loved the cabbage, and cabbage isn't usually something I'd write home about. I even met the nicest couple while sitting at the bar. Came on a late Saturday afternoon after playing golf. We were immediately seated, there wasn't a large crowd here. PLENTY of indoor space, but we choose to sit outdoors, which still wasn't very crowded. It took a while for a waiter to come to our table and he only came back once after our food was delivered. I was so thirsty lol I had been waiting for a water refill for about 30 mins. I ordered the Shrimp wrap. The waiter said it came with a side, so I took a look and ordered the Mac n cheese. The shrimp wrap was good and the mac and cheese was VERY hot and delicious. When I got the bill, I saw the Mac was an extra $5. My friend said her side was also added as an extra and not apart of the "included entrée" as the waiter had made it seem that those entrees came with a side. My family and I visited here last night for my daughter's birthday and I was excited to support since the my last visit was precovid. Mad Cow is MAD DISRESPECTFUL! Let me start by saying, I've eaten here many times and had mostly good experiences. The place is popular; the food is good and the atmosphere is upbeat and warm. Unfortunately, this is my second bad experience with ordering food to be picked up. The first time, they got my order wrong and when I got home & realized it, they said sorry & offered to remake it if I wanted to come back & pick it up. A reasonable response though not the ideal; I would have prefered refund for she item. I declined & took the L. This time, I ordered through Grubhub, hoping there would be no misinterpretation with an electronic order. I ordered two roti without peas and a side of sweet plantains. Simple, straight forward & hopefully easy to fill. I was willing to take a long ride to get it because roti is hard to find in the sticks where I live. I placed my order at 4:50 PM and arrived at the restaurant at 5:38 after getting a notice from the app that my order was ready. They handed my son a stapled bag when he asked for the order. Fortunately, given my previous experience, I checked the order. In the stapled paper bag was a single side of plantain. I went back in, hangry and irritated and was met by a gentleman who, as soon as I put the bag on the counter said "you ordered the plantain?" That told me that he knew that the order was missing the primary food. He was apoligitic but offered no resolution. He then got his manager - that's where things went from bad to worse. This woman was rude, unapologetic, and behaved like I was bothering her. She said the roti was discontinued and acted like the app was at fault. I said, in my frustration, there is no damn reason that I was not called and told you didn't have the item. She then said "if you're going to curse I'm not going to be able to help you." (Meanwhile there is a song playing over the loud speaker with much worse language.) As if they could just keep my money and brush me off. The poor gentleman who originally helped me looked mortified at the way she was behaving and when she walked away, gave me a number to the manager. The rude mismanager came back and gave me another number and then really lost her mind and looked at my child and said "your son looks like he's ready to go." Downright disgusting. You can see my reviews, I rarely give a bad review but this was insult to injury. They didn't call to say they couldn't fulfill the order, they handed my son a stapled bag with only the side item in it (basically trying to get over), then when confronted with the problem, the lead staff was rude and dismissive. I've supported this business since they opened their doors, in part because I am a strong supporter of locally owned, Black owned, small businesses; especially those with quality products. But I will think more than twice before patronizing them again. A damn shame. read more

The wife and I like coming here. The food never lets us down and the drinks are good. It feels more like a fusion or "modern version of" restaurant. The vibe is young and the music and to the entire restaurant experience. The times the wife and I came, we always had a good waiter. They all are very personable and shared great recommendations. In the past I ordered The Breaking Bad Burger. By recommendation of the waiter, I added pepper sauce. It made a really good burger, better. The wife did get Black Cake while we were leaving. She said it was ok. This latest visit was carry out. I ordered rasta pasta with chicken. I enjoyed it, but I was looking for more than one protein as I'm used to at different places. An addition of shrimp would have been . For the establishment, consider different take out containers. Although I appreciate the recyclable paper/heavy stock paper container, by the time I arrived home, the steam from my food made the container soft and almost flimsy. Not a big problem. I put a hard plate underneath and went to town. The portion was great because it was enough for two sittings. Sure to this, I refrigerated the second half to take to work for lunch. Remember the paper container. When the rasta pasta sauce cooked down and solidified, it tore the container paper while I tried to scoop it in a smaller traveling and work-safe container. It's not that the spoon your the paper, it was the combo of the container that was softened from the heat of the food and the food cooling off in the refrigerator. FYI, either transfer the food as soon as you get home, or transfer to a different container before refrigerating. Simple fix and not a problem next time. This doesn't take away from the taste of the food or the restaurant. read more

I have been to Mad Cow a couple of times, and for different occasions!! This is a spacious restaurant right off of Route 1, and the Caribbean vibes are present, but not dominating. So, as soon as you go into the place, you immediately take it in the large restaurant, but the layout is awesome. It can get crowded, but it'll never feel tight. There are tables of multiple sizes for various party sizes, and I've found the staff to be super friendly and helpful. Now, for the food... I shared several appetizers with people that I thoroughly enjoyed, but more recently I got to experience the brunch. What a BLAST. There are some awesome options like $15 bottomless mimosas, chicken & red velvet waffles, curried thighs, and shrimp and grits! I was recommended to try the chicken & waffles, and that was an easy win. The waffles were a little dark for red velvet, but it was the perfect balance of crispness and fluffiness for me. The Sriracha honey really set it off too!! Needless to say, I forgot about this place, honestly .. but I need to go back more often and try their other dishes. I'm a lover of a Caribbean food and I found a new spot to get my Caribbean fix!!! Kerri - Ann was our beautiful server. I told her it was my first time and she ran down all the notable selections. I have head many people talk about this place and decided to try them out with some yelp friends. This place is located in Laurel shopping center with the Giant but closer to the route 1 side. We made it in time to opt for happy hour and of course I was going to take advantage of the deals. I ordered the jerk quesadillas and Brussel sprouts and that pretty much filled me up for the evening. The portions are pretty decent. For drinks, I pretty much stayed in the rum punch lane. Drinks were pretty strong. Can't complain. I did order one drink off of the happy hour menu and I could taste the alcohol so the waitress brought me a shot. I sipped it and it tasted like rubbing alcohol. I know it was bottom shelf but added it to my drink anyway. Lol On the way out, my boyfriend decided to get some cakes Togo. He ordered the carrot cake and their strawberry crunch cake. When we got home, we checked the bag and saw that we got their Hennessy cake. I didn't like it. Too strong for my taste. I was going to call to submit my order but the automated system said to order online. Their website points you to chownow. I created the order and hit submit, nothing happened. Hit submit again - and was told I had submitted an order already and to wait to submit another one. So.. this is where Mad Cow comes in... I immediately called and told the woman I wasn't sure if my order went through and needed an estimate to pick up. She stated she thought her coworker got the order and asked what was ordered, quoting 45-50 minutes for pick up. I arrived at 50 minutes - and my order was no where to be found. The only offering was to write down the order and wait 30 minutes for it to be ready. By this point it was after 1pm, so we passed on that. There seems to be some efficiency issues as well - when you place an online order, you need to state what system you ordered with and what your name is - did not appear that they put names on the completed orders, had to look at the order on a tablet to figure out which bag of food you got. There is a large parking lot with plenty of spots available and there was a nice buzz in the restaurant. read more

I'll try to be fair and honest about my experience. The food was just average. My BF and I shared a ceasar salad and shrimp and grits. The salad was pretty standard as salads go. The seasoning on the shrimp and grits was ok but could be flavored a little better. I'm partial to coarse grits with texture (think Anson Mill), and these were more fine but seemed clumpy. It was served with a biscuit that quite frankly seemed to have been sitting out all day as it was hard as a rock. I had to drink water to soften it when I but into it. I was shocked that our drinks were served in plastic Solo type cups. I hope this is not the norm and maybe they had unexpected problems with this dishwasher. Seems like such waste. The menus were nothing more than photocopies of a typed up menu. The server was pleasant. Average service at best. I had a margarita that was tasty. I was extremely disappointed with the entire experience given the total on the bill. About $70 for the two of us! For a Sunday afternoon, I was also shocked by the music. Think the unedited version of My Neck, My Back blaring like we were in a club at 1am! I'm not offended by the music, but there is a time and a place. That's wild to me. I dined Tuesday April 26th between 4 - 5pm. I didn't ask for my server's name but she was pleasant. I ordered the oxtail tacos and fried yuca. It was pretty good. However I do wish the tacos had more oxtail. It was soaked in gravy so I definitely got the flavors but not as much meat (Its alot for me to say that because I'm not a heavy meat eater). Now I love Yuca fries. Its like strips of fried cassava. I've had them plenty times. There isn't much you can do to mess it up. This dish is $14. They do add jalapeños, peppers and garlic aoli (which i opted out of) but dang $14?! Most expensive yuca I've ever had. I also had the pineapple ginger rum drink, which was good. Don't bother paying the up charge for the fries. They aren't all that amazing. I wish I had stuck with the chips, especially since the burger was so filling. The restaurant was packed at noon on a Sunday, with a 40 minute wait for outside and a 30 min wait for inside. I chose the outside waiting list, but I think the young guy at the front was new because they sat us inside. This happened to the lady before me too. The service was attentive to our drinks and very kind, but it took 40 minutes to get our burgers. Asked how do they cook their steak and they said "well done because of how thin it is"... ok well they weren't lying, this steak nearly killed me as it had the consistency of leather maybe because they literally place it on the grill and don't move it for 20 minutes when it's half an inch thick (the picture is the backside that doesn't touch the grill), mind you the drinks were flat so we wanted new drinks which to no surprise the waitress disappeared for 20 minutes so they expected us to attempt to chew and gnaw on the driest steak known to man with no drinks? The one saving grace I thought I'd have would be the fries and WOW, I don't know how to mess up fries but they found a way. There's more but it's not worth mentioning, the food alone is worth -5 stars I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more
