We only ordered the nachos, which were pretty interesting with the toppings -- not bad at all, just a little different from the usual style. Drinks were fine, nothing to complain about. The atmosphere was quite mellow during our visit, but it was November, so maybe not peak season. The bartenders were friendly and welcoming, which was nice. There was also live music playing outside, adding a fun touch even though the vibe overall wasn't super energetic. We arrived on a Monday around 2 o'clock in the afternoon and it definitely was not very busy. We are bar people so we chose to sit at the bar and the bartender greeted us promptly. They are a full-service bar and have a OK selection of liquor that is available. One thing that I did appreciate about this location is that they are one of the few locations that actually offer a hard cider option. So I ordered a snake bite, which was done with the Austin cider, pineapple cider and Stella. It was actually pretty tasty. Their food selection includes a selection of the classic UK inspired food dishes, as well as some classic pub food. I got the fish and chips and will say that the fish was cooked perfectly. The breading was a little soggy on the bottom and a little hard to cut through so I ended up cutting most of that out and sticking to just eating the fish inside. The french fries were excellent though. My husband got the Cobb salad with the fried chicken tenders the salad was good overall, some of the lettuce was a little wilted, but overall good salad. We also got an order of the pork cracklings and even after 20 minutes of having them at our table they were still crackling. We had a little bit of the barbecue dry rub spritz over the top, and I will say they were delicious! I am not a huge crackling fan, but I easily could've continued to eat more of those. read more

TLDR: Mad Dog's is a great tourist spot as it's easy to get to off the Presa Street Bridge, and it's got about 8-9 tables with a cool view of the Riverwalk! I was also impressed with the service, as they had a high chair ready for our littlest diner. Setting is sorta-kinda U.K. themed, though for a British pub they sure played a lot of hip-hop, and the menu is mostly a re-skinned American one. The Texas Chili Mac burger, fried shrimp & chips, and the Reuben sandwich are very good. I would avoid the pork cracklings, which taste like a re-heated version of what you can get in a bag from the supermarket. Average out the food at four stars with the five stars for the location and service and you get 4.5. I'll round it up to five as the Union Jack Margarita got a big thumbs-up! This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Stopped here on the River Walk because they had live music going and the gentleman outside with the hat was entertaining. I was seated and Hazel was my server and she was great! She was quick with the service despite being busy and was very helpful with helping me navigate the area since I'm not a local! Sweet, attentive, and rocking the plaid skirt uniform like a pro. We ordered their famous fish & chips but opted for mashed potatoes instead of fries. The potatoes were on the chunky side and a bit light on seasoning, but the fish more than made up for it. Crispy golden coating, flaky interior, and a portion size big enough for both of us to share.
