I made a reservation for Mad Nice in advance as it was the new up and coming restaurant in town. I specifically put a request to be seated in a more secluded area, but they placed me at a very small table in the middle of the restaurant with no room to put or plates. When I requested a different spot, they had nowhere else to accommodate me. Our server was ok. He started off dissing on the fact that I came in with a mask and telling me to take it off. Wasn't a fan of that and it's best to keep your opinions to yourself. He also wasn't very attentive and his attitude wasn't the best to deal with. I understand everyone has off days though, especially in the service industry, but overall my experience wasn't the best. Ambiance was very nice inside and is very picturesque. Food was good. I ordered the margherita pizza and my friend ordered the rigatoni ragout. The pizza was great. Usually, I like my pizza to have a lot of cheese, but margherita pizzas are known not to have as much and I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't a fan of having the cut the pizza myself with scissors, but I understand they're trying to match the Italian vibes. Ooooooh my GOD!!! This place was absolutely stunning from the second you step in. The colors are perfectly balanced and encases you somewhere on the west coast in the Midcentury. Hill & I decided to stop by this restaurant after an evening of working and we were truly amazed at this restaurant. Although it was quite loud, the ambiance was still pretty nice. We sat at the bar since there was about a 45min wait upon our arrival. Once we sat down, the bartender promptly greeted us and took our order. He ordered a glass of wine which he was fairly pleased with. However, our minds were blown after receiving our food. Hill ordered the Rigatoni and I ordered the Margherita Pizza. The rigatoni was so delicious. You can not and will not go wrong if you choose this dish. Taste buds will forever be thankful and you get quite a bit for the amount of money. I was invited to a lunch at Mad Nice. We had 13 in our party in a private room. We started out with all sorts of different salads, which were good and unique. Then we came to the main course...... not for gluten free folks. My options were salad, more salad or a sandwich with no bread. Since I had tasted all salads, I tried the turkey, avocado sandwich with no bun. It literally looked like someone ran to the deli at Kroger and placed a pound of thin sliced turkey. Zero desserts available. To end on a positive note, the coffee was amazing. The server was so kind and welcoming. He took care of us very well. What a great addition to the Detroit food scene. When you step inside, you get instant LA vibes with lots of plants hanging from the top of the bar, colorful flowers livening up the tables, and pink and green leather seats that just brighten the restaurant. The drinks here are nothing less than amazing. They have several different cocktail concoctions that are broken out by the Italy, LA, and Detroit themes. I tried the 59' Biarritz on Sunset, which is a refreshing vodka based drink and Afternoon Seaside Lunch in Capri, which is a fancier version of your typical Aperol Spritz. Both were delicious. Honestly, it's hard to imagine you could go wrong with any of their drinks. I expected the food to not live up to the hype, but I was completely wrong. I enjoyed every single plate I tasted and was impressed by how original some of the dishes were. Here's what we ordered from most to least favorite: 1. Everything Sour Pancake: if there's one thing you should order from this menu, it should be this one. I still think about this thick sour airy pancake that mixed perfectly with the buttery salty hollandaise sauce and the fresh farm greens. 2. Guanciale pizza: perfect ingredients for this choice of pizza with pine nuts, pesto, and pork working so well together. The greens gave the pizza the added freshness it needed too. 3. Bucatini Cacio e Pepe: your classic Italian staple for pasta with only 3 simple ingredients: pasta, pepper, and lots and lots of cheese. They understood the assignment and the thickness of the bucatini noodles worked well together with this dish. 4. Shrooms pizza: great option for vegetarians; the mushrooms had a nice sourness to it that mixed well with the whipped ricotta and the mozzarella. 5. Zeppoli: I know this is a dessert item and may not belong on this list, but this is a perfectly shareable (somewhat) light sweet snack to be consumed after your meal. You get 10 balls with generous powdered sugar coating and a warm chocolate sauce to go with them. 6. Brussels sprouts: this one was not loved at our table due to how it was prepared, but I enjoyed the lightness of these sprouts and the original preparation of them. They almost tasted blanched and seasoned and were served on a bed of whipped ricotta. A healthier take than your classic Brussels sprouts preparation. 7. Little Gem Salad: light salad with spiced almonds and radishes with a tasty sweet dressing. The dressing made this dish come alive. 8. Sourdough Garganelli: I can't say I loved this pasta unfortunately. The sourdough pasta had a bite to it similar to wheat pasta, but I still enjoyed the difference in flavors. Overall, this was a great dining experience and I can't wait to come back here again. Our servers were amazing and tended to all our needs. I absolutely loved this place. Perfect for date night or Galentine's night like I did with my best friend! When you walk in the decor is so beautiful. It has soft pink colors all over, flowers, a beautiful bar and seating. I could not get over how pretty it was inside. It was really clean and smelled great too. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was so nice, funny and helpful! We were able to joke around with her and she was very attentive. I wish I could remember her name now, we had such a fun time! The best part was the food. I was skeptical because sometimes these new places with great aesthetics don't have the best food but I was surprised! Everything we had was delicious. The drinks were so good I had a second one. The steak tartare was fresh and full of flavor. The kimchi ravioli was such a unique flavor profile and textures. The pizza was perfect! Not too much sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. I think we had the mushroom one. And we had the ceviche I believe, the fish was fresh and it was such powerful herb citrusy taste. Welcoming staff are nice but standoffish but I feel like they need to be that way since it's so busy. The servers are so nice and very informed with items on the menu. I haven't been here in a while the menu has changed not much but a few items are no longer on the menu that I was looking forward to but I tried other things. The atmosphere is always good. It is loud but not too bad. I scallop crudo was not as good as it used to be to be but I think a lot had to do with the way they cut it. It's more of a poke than a crudo but the it makes a difference with the texture. The Margherita pizza was great. The drinks are now bigger or should say are in highball glass than the short glass. The sourdough bread was good it is made in house but I think I preferred the pita bread they had before. The Bucatini Cacio E Pepe was out of this world. I absolutely recommend along with the Budino. There was a dish with saffron which I usually like but it had an off putting taste. We didn't like it at all. The cucumber and corn was okay. The Broccoli was amazing. Delighted by this spot. We came last weekend for my wife's birthday dinner and were both quite impressed. Service was excellent, and food and drinks were both delicious. My first drink was a twist on The Last Word but with beet-infused vodka instead of gin. Delish. We got the bread (warm and delicious), the scallop crudo (super flavorful), the rigatoni ragout (so so good, super flavorful and fresh tasting pasta). The delicata squash was super unique, and well worth trying. Then we did the patate pizza, which was so so good. Meaty (without meat), great flavor, etc. my second drink was the aperol spritz style drink and also very good. Dessert was their chocolate bumpy cake with a delicious cherry sauce. I would also just park on the street next time, but I guess it depends on who's in your party and what you're wearing (heels, walking, weather, etc.). The servers were very pleasant and professional. The facility was clean. beautiful overall. The mood was giving chic, "street" with an emphasize on pastel colors softening the place. It was personally too much pink, but note I'm not into soft colors and especially pink. At some point it felt like a bottle of pepto exploded and then someone yelled, "MAGNIFIQUE!" Either way, it is still a beautiful place. Loved the branches in the entrance. The chandelier was eye catching. Bathroom tile (pink and grey picket ceramic tile) was stunning - great design choice! I can keep going. I have more to say about the decor than the food lol. FOOD For the same price, Settebello in California offers the same pizza and taste better. Mad doesn't even offer pepperoni (shocking)!!! Two of us weren't;t impressed with the food. One person enjoyed their fish. Desserts also lacked. The chocolate cake was ok. I preferred the apple tart instead. It was good. I want to be clear the food is not nasty. I just feel it could go up a bit in flavor. (fyi, my apple tart pic is the bomb) WELL She's cute, but no need to return only because the food was not that impressive. Mannn, I wanted to love this place because it's absolutely beautiful, but my first experience here was just meh. As I mentioned, it's a super cool, swanky spot. Looks fantastic on the gram. There's a good layout too and the seats are comfy. The food is good (not great) but slightly overpriced for the portion sizes. I tried the cacio e pepe, margherita pizza, and shishito peppers. The cacio e pepe was alright, though SheWolf's is cheaper, a larger portion, and tastes better. The margherita pizza crust was terrible -- I'm guessing they make it extra soggy so they can do their little gimmick where you have to cut it with scissors (seriously), but that was excessive. The shishito peppers were the best thing I tried there, and actually a decent-sized portion. Cocktails were good, though priced a bit on the high side for the quality level. The service and vibe were weird, though. They have a super strict no-hat policy and are WEIRD about it... I'm not a hat wearer, but they were kind of rude to the people we saw walking in with hats, and refused an explanation when asked. I'd almost get it at a Michelin star restaurant (though I've been to places with Michelin stars that do allow hats lol), but this is a semi-fancy pizza joint. Then there are THE JUMPSUITS. Seriously, are they meant to look like the patients at an insane asylum? Maybe that's why it's called "Mad" Nice and I'm just not getting it, but it looked so out of place at such a beautiful restaurant. And then we were feeling RUSHED, even though we were only there for a little over an hour. Someone asked if I was done with my shishito peppers while I still had about half of them left on the plate, and then someone else came 5 minutes later and literally took the plate out from under me while I was biting into the last pepper -- like dude, you couldn't wait 30 more seconds to do that?! So bizarre. I'd probably come back if someone suggested having a drink, but not for dinner. No hats. Insane asylum jumpsuits are cool, though. read more

Mad Nice definitely has a great ambiance! You walk in and feel like you're in a chic, semi old school movie. Big fan of the colors and vibes. The place is also a lot bigger than I expected. There is ample space and tables (including comfy booths). ‍Our waiter was the best! I wish I remembered his name but he was very attentive to us and gave us great food recos. I have to say the pistachio latte was amazing! And it was fun to get a little biscotti cookie with it. My favorite app was the potato fritto (which is not pictured because we ate it so quickly). The pizza was also really good and had lots of flavor. to me the price was a bit on the expensive size for what you get. It wasn't anything crazy, but a pizza with 4-6 slices was $24-$28.
