First time at Mad Swede last week for Trivia Night. Great people and atmosphere as well as a nice selection of beer on tap.

Went here for trivia night! Beer is pretty tasty and ambience is casual. Trivia night was fun for a girls night but tended to drag on at the end. They usually have a food truck or some food option cooked in the back. Usually it's alright but mostly overpriced. The location is also difficult due to it being so far out of Boise. Would come back for the beer but would definitely eat before. read more

Well, I'm fairly satisfied with our visit to Mad Swede. We probably won't be back all that often, but more due to location than quality of product or service. Honestly, located on Cole Road (near the Costco) seemed like an excellent idea... until we tried to leave the place during rush hour. In retrospect, turning south down Cole (and heading back north via maple grove) would have been much wiser than turning north on Cole and into the worst traffic I've ever experienced in Boise. I am truly spoiled with my commute. The beer was just fine! They make two IPAs and we like them both (wifey favors Karve and I favor Longship... no doubt their flagship IPA, pun or wordplay unintended). The brown and the stout had something odd going on... like a metallic or chemical-y finish to them. The rye wheat ale, We Found the Village Burning, was more than passable and I'd drink a free pint of that any day. Service was a little spotty. Even with two dudes running the bar, enough folks wanted full tasting phlights (these guys are new, so it makes sense; we were among the flight orderers) that service was significantly delayed. I stood at the bar for ten minutes waiting for service, while other stacked up behind and beside me. I was worried some amoral customer might claim they were in line ahead of me; fortunately, everyone played nice. The tasting room itself is pleasant enough and, unlike some other breweries, doesn't mix it's image in 15 different directions. They do the viking theme with some random stuff on the walls, including a viking mural on the back wall (photos to come shortly). read more

I really liked this brewery. They had the birds of prey exhibit and live music so the vibe was fun . Good beer and good place .

Great environment, clean and well decorated place! The logo is awesome and the beer was great! I like IPA's so that is what I tried there and they were great! They have a TV, shuffle board table, and darts. Their glasses are pretty sweet. I will def come again. read more

We had the great experience of having my husbands retirement party there on an early Thursday night. The Manager Ryan was super welcome during the planning phase and Dani in Marketing was top notch! The place was set and ready, providing great service to our 40 guests making the hall the perfect venue for celebrating a 30 year career of wild land fire fighting. The beer was excellent and the options for home brewed hard seltzer was a delicious surprise. Mad Swede Downtown was the easiest and most accommodating in all the valley. One the my most favorite places to grab a beer and chill. If you can stop in on a Friday, you may be privileged to listen to some live music. They have food trucks quite often which make it nice to eat and have a satisfying glass of Longship (my fav). Not only are the owners beyond cool, they "know a thing, about a thing or two." They have trivia night, as well as some open-mic comedy nights early in the week. read more

Not impressed. Bar tender was not pleasant to deal with. She was rude and uninterested in helping us. We had to ask for everything we wanted separately (Once for the shuffle board equipment, once for 1 beer and once for a second beer for one trip to the bar). And she seemed very annoyed with having to serve customers. We played bar games the whole time we were there, when we started playing shuffle board we were told we were "being too loud". To us thats just part of the game. Beer wasn't impressive compared to other near by breweries. We won't ever be going back. read more

Beers are great! Tried the IPA, stout, nut brown, and rye wheat. Really enjoyed the taste! Nut brown was probably my favorite. Met the brewmaster and his son and they were so genuine and friendly. Nothing is better to me than a good local brewery and a cool staff. read more

Visited from out of town and was surprised at how good the was. They were out of the dunkelweizen. I tried the naked sunbather on a flight, but they managed to run out of that too before I could order a pint. I wanted to take home a shirt but they didn't have my size. They seemed to be out of everything. Friendly staff and good beer, but I wish they had everything they offered. The dog there was soo sweet. read more

Our favorite brewery in Boise! The beers are delish! We enjoy their IPAs and any Porter or Bourbon Barrel Aged they have! Always a nice spread available and the service is sweet as can be. We enjoy Saturdays playing steel tip darts and a little lunch from the food truck parked outside. Well behaved puppies and children are welcome too which makes it even more fun! read more

I would say a very solid start for such a new brewery! All of the beer if very "drinkable", but they haven't quite nailed any of their beers...yet! Remember this is a very new brewery, so I would say give them a year and they could have some really good beers. The lightest beer "burn the villiage down" is smooth and would be great on a hot day. The scottish ale is probably the best beer they have and it is yummy. They still need work on the IPAs and Stouts however. read more

Puppies everywhere! I would have stayed just for that. There was only one cider on tap, but it's one of my local favorites so I was happy. My friends seemed happy with their beers. The place is small, but mighty, lots more seating than you would think for in that tiny place. Kilted Kod was delicious! We'll definitely be back again soon. read more

The beer and atmosphere was great... However the service we got from the bartender was rude and unprofessional almost like he resented us. I'm writing this review so that management can correct the problem before it has a negative impact on their business. I have been to plenty of breweries and their tasting rooms, I have never felt the need to write a poor review but I would hate for a good brewery to suffer from such a correctable situation. Excellent beers. Very nice selection of styles and each one was done true to the style. The only other brewery I tried in Boise was Payette and-while payette was good and more eclectic- mad Swede was less flashy and hipster-y and focused more on the product. I don't imagine business will bring me back to Boise anytime soon but I would actually consider coming back just to drink this beer. Defiantly check it out if you're in town. Oh and if the mad Swede is reading this, please ship your beer to Boston :) read more

Wow. I could not believe how rude everyone here was. First, the bartender snapped at my friends to order at the side of the bar when we walked in. Then when we got a table (which took a bit to obtain as the place was packed), a guy came up to us and our full beers and asked if we were playing trivia. We said no, because we had to go to the airport soon. He asked how soon and we said about ten minutes. He asked if we could give up the table bc someone else wanted it, and we told him they could have it soon since we'd be leaving shortly. A few minutes later, he was harassing is to leave again, before any of us had even finished our beers. He also asked a group of six guys not to move from their tiny two person table into a larger table that they'd claimed first bc he wanted his trivia groupies to sit there. They said, "We're playing trivia too!" Not sure why he was so rude and concerned about free trivia players more than other people spending money, but as we stood up to leave our beers he was shuffling women into our seats and didn't bother to say thanks for leaving early without finishing your beers. Two stars bc the beer was good. Zero stars for costumer service and inadequate seating. read more

Very good beer. The "cabor toss this, wee lad" Scotch Ale is a true home run. Perfect malt with the hint of hops you would expect from a high quality imported Scottish Ale. The "Naked sunbather" is also a hearty nut brown ale worthy of the pint! You cannot go wrong with the "We found the village burning" for a lighter yet full flavored beer. This is a summertime hit! Friendly and knowledgeable people pouring the tap. Mad Swede is a must go to place in Boise, as it is one of th he finest breweries in the region. read more

Love this place! The servers are so nice. The drinks are great. It's super affordable. They have free, freshly popped popcorn with different seasonings. They also have food trucks, although I'm not sure that's every night. Well-behaved dogs are allowed inside. There are games you can play if you're bored. First timer. No servers just go up to the bar to order beer. Bar tender was maybe 25 years old. She did not ask if I have been there before or what kind of beers I like. She stared at me and said "yes?" I asked for a certain name of the beer and she said we are out and stared at me. I said what would be similar to the one I choose. At that point she was annoyed and she said the name of one fast which I didn't understand which one I just said yes for a taster that costs $1.50. The bar tender was very short in communicating and negative energy. On a positive note: This was bigger inside than I anticipated. I love that you can bring your dogs and the inside of as clean.
