Madi's in San Diego is such a brunch gem! Our server Phoenix was incredibly sweet and attentive. She made sure we were comfortable, had everything we needed, and just had the best energy overall. I got the chilaquiles and loved every bite. Bright, flavorful, and the perfect level of crisp and saucy. Steven went with the shakshuka which was equally delicious and loved the smokiness in it. The baby (and us parents) had French toast and a side of bacon, and devoured more than she usually ate so that's always a good sign! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Lots of natural light, plants everywhere, and super kid friendly. It's one of those spots that feels easy to settle into and just enjoy. Easily one of my favorite brunches in a while. I live in Kensington and know all the brunch spots along Adams Avenue, and Madi is truly the best spot! Madi's Google reviews speak for themselves. I ordered the Papas Locas, which is one of Madi's healthier options while still having a high amount of protein. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the potatoes have a nice texture to it. There's also a good amount of avocado on the dish. My absolute favorite aspect about Madi is the service. My server, Phoenix, was genuinely friendly and was very prompt at grabbing whatever I needed. Her and her team are quick, friendly, and will make sure you always have water in your glass. Plenty of street parking in the residential area, as long as you're fine with walking between 2-10 minutes. The patio is cozy and completely shaded with ceiling fans. honestly a solid brunch spot. The Mediterranean Brekafast and the Chilaquiles Verdes were pretty filling but the Chilaquiles Verdes stole the show. They were soooo delicious and packed with flavor the Mediterranean breakfast was relatively simple... nothing stood out to me here. THE ORANGE CINAMMON PANCAKES WERE BEAUTIFUL AND BUSTING.... This place is ALWAYS busy. But somehow, we always get lucky and don't have to wait very long. This place has become my go to spot after hiking mission trails. The bathroom situation isn't the best though. There's always a line and there's only 2 bathrooms, but at least they're gender neutral. The space is a bit cramped but it's definitely lively. The food, AMAZING. Probably the best bread I've ever had at a brunch spot. I ordered the chicken fried steak even though I was craving pancakes. But the saddest part was when I tried my boyfriend's Cubano sandwich and immediately had food envy!! That Cubano sandwich was perfect! It was extremely flavorful, the bread had a nice crunch but didn't rip up your mouth, and the mustard really took it away. Paired with his Bloody Mary, it was the perfect brunch order. My chicken fried steak was a bit bland tbh but everything was cooked perfectly. The brioche French toast was a little on the soggy side. The vanilla bean latte was also very watered down. There isn't a strong coffee or vanilla taste. However, the service was quick and nice and that Cubano was so good I'm drooling thinking about it! What a fun and cute breakfast spot! We have been trying to come here for a while and we finally got a reservation. We were seated very quickly, and there was plenty of bench seating outside the restaurant for us while we waited. They promptly brought us ice waters and our waitress refilled my coffee intuitively, just when I needed more! The shakshuka was so delicious, my favorite part was the citrus cream sauce that came on the side. The GOAT sandwich was also so good, the jabanero jam was so sweet and also spicy, very good. My brother and his family were staying in SD this week so I met them for lunch on a Friday (day agent Christmas) at Madi which I found on Yelp. Thankfully my SIL made reservations for noon as I hear someone check to see how long Feb wait was and they were told an hour. Service was good! Waiter and the guy who brought our mimosa pitcher were wonderful. I had the BLT with a cop of pozole, my brother had the corn beef hash with a cup of pozole, my nephew some egg dish with black beans, avocado and tortillas, and my SIL a middle eastern dish. Such a chic place for brunch! We were here in a large group (easily accommodates big groups of 8-10). We were a part of 7 adults and 3 kids. Some dishes are great for splitting (i.e. pancakes, french toast). The dishes were generally all delicious, but not unique imho. I would not say it's a great value for just the food. Finally had a chance to come to one of the brunch places in the heart of normal heights on a rainy day. Luckily we were seated fairly quickly and indoors. We ordered the green pazole. I liked that there were sides including onions, sliced lettuce, and radish to provide a contrasting crunch, but the soup itself I think could use more meaty flavor. The chicken fried steak seems to be something they are known for, and it was not bad! The steak itself may look a bit dry but there is plenty of flavorful gravy and the taste goes together well. Comes with toast, eggs, and potatoes. Finally, I had the green shakshuka. The presentation looks messy, but at least the flavor for this dish packed more meat and garlic. Service is always slow, no matter what day or time you go. I tried the blood Mary this time - it was fine. I enjoyed the celery salt rim. I had the Chilaquiles Verde (with extra sauce) and it was AMAZING! I also had the orange, pineapple, kale juice...I wasn't a fan unfortunately. It tasted really earthy to me. I don't know why this place is reserved to the point when we went here on a Friday at 11:30am, we still had to wait 30-50 mins. I'll give Madi a 3.5 overall. I was asked if I had a reservation even though half the restaurant was open. After being seated it took about 20 minutes until I had to flag someone to get a drink/water. Even when I wanted to order, I had to flag someone down. Service overall was horrible but it gets worse. When you pay, there's a service fee and the tip screen options are 19, 20, and 21% which is pretty deceptive given the standard options are 15, 20, and 22% at other places. The food overall was good. I liked the crispy potatoes that came along with the country fried steak. Overall, the interiors were cute, food was good, but service was horrid.
