Ambiance 4/5 The inside has a calm atmosphere. It's bright and has a lot of natural light. The music playing is very soothing. There's plenty of seating for groups of various sizes. They have a variety of snacks and drinks to choose from along with their sandwiches and breakfast. You can tell that this place is part of the community with all the photos of local schools and people and celebrities with the owner, David. Service 5/5 The service here is excellent. All the staff here is so friendly. This is a family establishment and you can feel like everyone treats you specially and not like another random customer. The owner, David, is so nice and once you start coming a few times he'll remember you. Steak & Cheese ($12.49) 3.5/5 A simple but good sandwich. The bread is light and crispy. The meat is tender and chewy and the cheese brings the the whole sandwich together and is so stretchy. The veggies are fresh and add a bit of crunch. It's a bit pricey and the sandwich isn't the biggest but it's a solid sandwich to get once in a while.

I used to come here as a kid growing up with my mom and this is still one of my go-to spots for a steak and cheese. The pricing has gone up during the years but the taste has remained amazing throughout the years. The service is always quick and easy to order. The restaurant does have more of a 'quick bite' vibe. Most people order to go but they have seating. I personally haven't tried the Bulgoki sandwich but i've heard good things about it so definitely will try it next and review that too!

I ordered a sandwich and wanted to make it a combo but they only do it with fries, no chips. For most, thats an awesome deal - I just personally wanted chips. They have the fancier drinks and not your typical soda options so keep this in mind. My roasted turkey sandwich was $14.95 to start, and toppings like pepper relish cost extra (I feel like a spread should not be half a dollar but sure). Meat quality was good and bread felt fresh but just a little hard to chew. For basically 16$, there was only two thin slices of provolone. Compared to some of the photos I saw, the sandwich was a bit lacking on the toppings of meat/cheese. People super friendly and service was quick. They had tons of desserts, pasta salad, and a few actual pasta dishes on the menu too. I'll have to come in to give them a try for a cheesesteak or the caesar salad wrap next.

Growing up Italian stateside, I never knew about this light, wavy pasta dish. So pappardelle pasta is like some rare delicacy and I love it. This pasta dish is not easy to find unless it has been popularized in the Italian dining scene, recently. How can I explain this pasta? Papardelle are not thick like butter noodles, but instead they are thin yet wide. And at Dal Grano's, they must be experienced to be savoured. Do call ahead, because they might just have them made. Dal Grano's is a neighborhood place. We love how when you are dining, they actually talk to you and are friendly. There are a few other places around Mclean proper which I wish were more overtly warm and hospitable, in this way. All of Dal Grano's pasta is homemade and delicious. It's definitely great for carryout pasta or a diner-style environment with a homemade pasta lunch or dinner. I don't think they deliver or work with any of the delivery services. You just call and pickup. The butternut squash ravioli is tender and flavorful. We have probably have gotten different versions of their ravioli every time. Outside of the papardelle, I'm all in for their rich squid ink pasta when it's made. I don't go there enough to know if it's always available. They have over 50 homemade pasta combinations to choose from and a big freezer case of food to take home. My biggest issue with Dal Grano's is when I see all of the pastas in the serving bowls presented to order and cook, I want to buy them all at once. I know it sounds tacky, but they make me yearn for a pasta buffet there just so that I can taste all of the variations. Alas, if we were in town more we'd just need to go more often to taste all of their selection. There's only one other restaurant that does Italian this well and it's around 15 minutes away in Falls Church. But even that fabulous Italian restaurant does not compare with the amount and selection of homemade pastas at Dal Grano's.

I don't think they make their own fries, but they were nice and crispy with a bit of seasoning on them and went well with our sandwiches. My husband had the cheesesteak and said it was just meh - definitely steak-ums - but we are from the self-proclaimed cheesesteak capital of the world :) Don't pass up the dessert case though - I am not a sweets person, but they had this triple cheese thing that was like a cheese danish, but with a million times more cheese and just a little bit of pastry, we... uhhh... devoured it... It paired really nice with their house chocolate gelato, which was the definition of rich, decadent chocolate. The lady at the register was kind enough to allow us to try a side-by-side of the house and the machine gelato... word of advice... skip the machine, go with the house gelato - the flavor (and the serving size) knocks that name-brand, machine mumbo jumbo out of the park :) Honestly, just a great sandwich joint with a little store selling specialty items, many of which are from Italy (I will be back for some squid ink pasta the next time I am cooking for friends!).
